  2. One website that really deserves to be banned is STR!! They are partly responsible for instilling fear amongst Singaporeans during DORSCON Orange asking Singaporeans to stock up at least 6 months worth of food and essentials in one of their Facebook posts. . The owner of the website Alex is now hiding in Australia.. . Is there no way the Government can shutdown the website? Singaporeans need to unite during this period. Hit back at the Pap during elections if you are unsatisfied with the government but this is the time to be united and not divided.. . Certainly don't need a website like STR to stir shit.... Some ppl jus wanna watch the world burn... https://www.straitstimes.com/politics/coronavirus-govt-invokes-fake-news-law-against-false-claims-by-states-times-review?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=STFB&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1581692638 SINGAPORE - The States Times Review (STR) Facebook page was on Friday (Feb 14) ordered under the fake news law to put up corrections alongside false statements it made about the coronavirus outbreak. This is the second order issued against STR under the Protection from Online Falsehood and Manipulation Act (Pofma) for bogus claims about the coronavirus crisis. STR had earlier falsely claimed that Singapore ran out of face masks. To date, the law has been used to deal with four cases of falsehoods related to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease, known as Covid-19. On Friday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong instructed the Pofma Office to issue corrections against "multiple false statements" in a post that STR put up the day before. The post, which was about the 30,000 Chinese work pass holders who have not returned to Singapore, was shared more than 300 times. Among the erroneous claims were that Singapore had not been able to trace the source of infection for any of the infected Covid-19 cases here. The Government described the claims made by STR as "entirely false", and rebutted them point by point in a statement on its fact-checking website, Factually. On the source of infections, the statement said the Ministry of Health (MOH) had in fact established through epidemiological investigations and contact tracing that 51 out of the 58 people infected with the virus either had travelled to China or come from there, or had links to previously announced cases. Contact tracing is under way for the remaining seven locally transmitted cases, to see if there are similar links or travel history to China. The STR had also said the Government is "the only one" telling people not to wear masks. This is not true, as the MOH's advice is in line with the World Health Organisation's guidance, and similar to advice given by health authorities in countries such as the United States and Australia, said the government statement. MOH's advice is that there is no need for people who are well to wear a mask, but those with respiratory symptoms should don one to minimise the risk of infecting others. STR made two other false claims about the daily $100 allowance for workers on a leave of absence, and Manpower Minister Josephine Teo's remarks about Chinese workers. Rebutting the claims, the Government said Chinese work pass holders placed on a mandatory 14-day leave of absence "do not receive the $100 daily support". Though the Leave of Absence Support Programme covers all workers, regardless of nationality, it is employers that receive the support, it added. These employers must have workers who travelled to China on or before Jan 31 this year, and who were placed on leave of absence after returning to Singapore on or after Jan 31. The Government also made clear that Mrs Teo never said she was working hard to bring more Chinese workers back to Singapore. On the contrary, the Manpower Ministry (MOM) has put in measures to slow down the return of affected work pass holders, like requiring employers to get prior approval before their workers can return, said the statement. It has also rejected more applications than it has approved. The STR had also said seven countries have since banned travel to Singapore due to lack of confidence in the measures taken so far to curb the spread of the virus. But as of 8pm on Thursday, there have been no such bans by any countries, said the Government. The STR Facebook page is run by Singaporean Alex Tan, who has received three Pofma orders so far since the laws against misinformation kicked in last October. He has not complied with any of the orders, and said he is now an Australian citizen. Besides issuing a correction order to Mr Tan, the Pofma Office also issued a Targeted Correction Direction to Facebook on Friday, requiring the social media company to put up the corrections on the STR post. The office had done the same in previous Pofma cases involving STR. The Government also advised people to get the latest updates on the Covid-19 situation from official sources such as the MOH website and Gov.sg WhatsApp service, and to report any suspected falsehoods to [email protected].

  4. Hi Everyone; BEWARE of this shop! Lian Kiat Alloy Tyre & Battery Center along Jalan Jurong Kechil. Recently I was duped and conned by this dishonest shop owner in his 60's. He charged me $950 for 4 Falken Tyres whereby the usual price is around $440. You may ask why I paid so much without comparing prices. The reason was that I had done some tyres change at this place and found him to be decent and therefore I let my guard down the last time thinking that he would be honest as usual. Also I realized his tricks are to act innocent, speak very fast and mumble to himself; he will unscrew and take out your old tyres and then he will tell you there is no stock and recommend you some brands made in China. You will get very frustrated waiting for him to get his tyres from elsewhere and you are at his mercy as you cannot drive away without the tyres. I went back to ask his why over-charged me by more than $500 and he told me all kinds of stories saying COE and house prices have gone up. I told him this does not give him the right to overcharge by 200%. He said it was a done deal as it was done willingly by both parties. Hope no one get conned by him again!

  6. Been buying fruit juice from the stall for a while now. And always wondering why sometimes the juice tastes diluted. Finally, today let me see the juicing lady spraying plain water very quickly while juicing. Confronted them and they say boss asked them to do so. Freaking a**holes. Last time they get my business.
  7. I installed my 2-channel in October last year. The unit either shut itself off during very hot weather like these days OR worst render my car battery flat if you ON the unit at the Power Magic. Able to us 64 GB but may go haywire at times! Installer suggest JUST 32 GB! That is, it is just good when driving AND NO GOOD for parking mode (just 3-4 hours before it flattened your car battery!!) Yes! I went back to the installer who is now suggesting a replacement of power magic for another ADDITIONAL $388 (beautiful number isn't it??) battery pack (batteries similar to handphone) just to power Blackvue. Yes! Both power magic and Blackvue has a "one year warranty" and the installer claimed that they no more install power magic AND most "small" car owner come back to install their $388 battery pack! Isn't this falling under the Lemon Law? So, people, don't simply think that a Made-in-Korea product is good judging by its video output. Careful of who your installer are!
  8. One of my friend had been scammed when she went to http://www.streetdeal.sg/ to make a purchase. Which have terms and conditions that they would charge a renewal premium of SGD88 once she make the purchase of the item. She just want to buy a water bottle that cost SGD $18 bucks and was shocked to received a charge of SGD $88 bucks for membership in additional of SGD $18 bucks. Below is the screenshots of the scam Its stated in the terms and conditions. However she did not read the terms and conditions as per her normal online purchase which so far no problem at all until this case surface. I did an online search and found out many others was also tricked to make purchase for membership without their knowing as they also did not read the terms and conditions. And want to cancel subscription have to contact them directly. Cannot cancel online. Worst still because the amount had been charged bank can't do anything. Further search online reveal more details on the company. so please beware of http://www.streetdeal.sg/ and http://www.olaprice.com/ . Summary, it already scammed more than 200 people. http://blackilocks.hubpages.com/hub/Streetdeal-Scams-More-Than-200-People Lesson learnt, if making any purchase online, better read the terms and conditions carefully before proceed with the payment.
  9. I bought an annual travel insurance with ACE Insurance. During one of my trip. Beijing Airport was affected by Heavy Storm. I was at 6pm waiting for my 8pm flt. Board the plane at 9pm and sat in the plane for 3 hrs. At 12am we were told Airport is closed and all Flt cancelled. Please go and collect your luggage and a cancellation letter. No other arrangement. Airport staff just tell you to get out of the airport. Bye Bye I tried to make a claim for subway ticket and Hotel stay but was rejected. It was just a small claim ACE asked for all kind of proof and documentation. How and Where to get a letter from the weather man? How and Where to get a letter from the Chinese to state their reason for closing the airport. Be careful if you guys planning to buy any travel insurance with ACE.

  12. To all drivers taking AYE towards TUAS: Speed limit isn't at 90km/h throughout the entire expressway! I learnt it the hard way after I was slapped with a fine for driving at 95km/h on the stretch of AYE (around Pioneer area) a few weeks back. It was stated on the slip that the speed limit was only 80km/h. I have driven along that stretch many times and especially after the toll increase at our beloved causeway, I've decided to use TUAS instead since the difference isn't much now. And every single time I would assume that the speed limit is 90km/h. I've always wondered why this was the case and I went back onto the same stretch of AYE and found out that there is actually NO speed limit signage, saying the speed limit is 80km/h, displayed after Corporation Road (next exit after Jurong Town Hall). So naturally it is to be assumed that the speed limit is 90km/h since it is prominently displayed (especially for the speed camera after Kent ridge) all the way up till Jurong area on the AYE. And ALWAYS ALWAYS look out for white uniform men on top of overhead bridges! On my 'investigation trip', I saw one of them with a speed camera on the overhead bridge. They are all out to hunt now. Drive safe and hope this piece of information helps.

  14. http://news.asiaone.com/news/crime/man-54-sexually-abuses-5-year-old-girl-promise-ice-cream A man who lured a five-year-old girl away from her family and then proceeded to sexually abuse her has been sentenced to jail for eight years. The unemployed man, 54-year-old Chin Wei Foong, lured the girl away with the promise of ice cream, Lianhe Wanbao reported. The incident happened on the morning of March 9. The girl had arrived in Singapore from Malaysia that morning with her mother and grandmother. The girl later accompanied her aunt and grandmother to a charity recycling event that morning at Bock 202 in Tampines Street 21, while her mother stayed at her aunt's home. At about 8am, Chin, who had just eaten breakfast at a nearby coffeeshop, chanced upon the girl at one corner of the HDB block, helping with some recycling task. He waited for about 30 minutes before finding an opportunity to strike, the Chinese daily reported. While the adults were distracted, Chin asked the girl if she wanted ice cream, and succeeded in luring the girl away. Chin took the girl to the void deck area of a nearby HDB block. He then removed the girl's pants and put his finger into her. He then took her to another HDB block and bought her the ice cream he promised her. Chin was arrested on the way to the event, at about 10.30am, with the girl. The girl's grandmother had called the police after searching for nearly an hour for her. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Reading this news report really make my blood boils!!!! 16. Amoebas devour girl's cornea after contact lenses stay in for 6 months File photo depicting a case of Acanthamoeba Keratitis. Acanthamoeba keratitis, first recognized in 1973, is a rare, vision threatening, parasitic infection seen most often in contact lens wearers. Thursday, Jul 03, 2014The China Post/Asia News Network By Lin-Yi Shen TAIPEI, Taiwan - A college girl was found to have had both the corneas of her eyes devoured by amoeba after wearing disposable contact lenses for over half a year without taking them out. The girl bought a pair of disposable contact lenses that were supposed to be used for one month and wore them for more than six months, even while she was sleeping. After feeling acute pain in her eyes, she went to hospital and was diagnosed with acanthamoeba keratitis, which is caused by a protozoon called an amoeba. The infection was brought on by dirty water that she used to clean her face, doctors said. Acanthamoeba keratitis, commonly referred to as amoeba keratitis, usually afflicts contact lens wearers or people whose eyes come into contact with dirty water. Director of ophthalmology at Wan Fang Hospital Wu Jian-liang indicated that contact lens wearers are a high-risk group that can easily be exposed to eye diseases. A shortage of oxygen can destroy the surface of the epithelial tissue, creating wounds in the eyes and cultivating an environment suitable for amoebas to survive. Wu said that the college girl did not follow the correct procedure in maintaining the hygiene of her contact lenses and her overuse of the lenses gradually damaged her corneas. After half a year of wearing them, her corneas were devoured by amoeba and shrank to half their normal size. Unfortunately, polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) or chlorhexidine, which are considered to be effective medicines in eliminating such amoebas, haven't yet been introduced to Taiwan, said Wu. Director of ophthalmology at Tri-Service General Hospital Lu Da-wen warned that no matter whether they are soft or hard, contact lenses should not directly come into contact with water, as this will increase their chances of becoming infected by other viruses and protozoon. Lu also stated that cases of acanthamoeba keratitis usually increase markedly during summer, and people should therefore pay more attention to proper hygiene at this time. - See more at: http://yourhealth.asiaone.com/content/amoebas-devour-girls-cornea-after-contact-lenses-stay-6-months#sthash.90qOvv55.dpuf

  19. http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/defence-ministry-considering-more-ways-recognise-nsmen-minister-ng Response by AWARE: https://www.facebook.com/awaresg/posts/769391113073330?stream_ref=10 Time is the one commodity that cannot be taken back. Not by the richest man, nor by the most powerful man. Almost every Singaporean man has served National Service, and that 2 to 2.5 years inside there, while a somewhat positive experience, does take away 2 to 2.5 precious years of a man's youth. I'm not denying that NS is a necessity, born of circumstances, both of our history and of our geographical location. Not being nationalistic or anything, but NS does protect us as a nation. However, all AWARE has done is KPKB when they perceive that more benefits are going to those who protect the nation. Haven't they learnt from history? Yeah, I agree that everyone should have access to housing, education and healthcare, but how does giving NSMen / Servicemen more benefits restrict the the access of non-NSMen / Servicemen? I've always been of the opinion that those who contribute more should receive more than just the basic. Besides, if women married a NSMen / Servicemen, they would have, due to that marriage, the same access to housing. Education and healthcare can be paid for by the extra two years of salary saved due to not serving NS. TL;DR: NS is a necessity. Recognizing the service with such benefits are a good thing. It's not taking away anything from others, merely giving more to those who gave the most important thing in their life.

  22. Hi guys Warning and beware of this company, L1 Cooling Airconditioning & Engineering, believed this is a one man show company, Johnny 林 is the person. Engaged this company to do basic cleaning of the aircon through groupon. Based on the groupon deal, call 81166269 to Made appt. Agreed on date n time, then did not turn up on actual day. Wasted my leave. Then schedule again, agreed to come in the morning, turn up late by more than 1hr. Aircon leaked the next day, called him to fix a schedule to fix the issue since got 95 days warranty if due to leakage. Came few days later, give me crap reasons etc etc, use a duct tape to seal the leakage. Ask my mum to boil lots of water so that he can pour into the fan coil tray to clear the choke as he claimed. Seems the leakage stopped so he left, the leakage came back again that night. Again fix a schedule to come n fix the issue, agreed on a date n time (abt 2 weeks later), appt date came, no show from him again, wasted mybleave again. Called him n he blamed the schedule was fixed by his admin, his admin screwed up c'mon his admin is he himself. He said he can only comes down 1 week later. Told him aircon has been leaking all the while. He said he will fixed an appt again. Then disapeear, numerous calls and SMS to him but no response. Trying to shirk his responsibility and accountabiltiy, so inform groupon for possible actions now. So if anyone of you engage this company or him to service aircon, pls think twice. Dun want you guys to go thru the same agony.
