  8. One website that really deserves to be banned is STR!! They are partly responsible for instilling fear amongst Singaporeans during DORSCON Orange asking Singaporeans to stock up at least 6 months worth of food and essentials in one of their Facebook posts. . The owner of the website Alex is now hiding in Australia.. . Is there no way the Government can shutdown the website? Singaporeans need to unite during this period. Hit back at the Pap during elections if you are unsatisfied with the government but this is the time to be united and not divided.. . Certainly don't need a website like STR to stir shit.... Some ppl jus wanna watch the world burn... https://www.straitstimes.com/politics/coronavirus-govt-invokes-fake-news-law-against-false-claims-by-states-times-review?utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=STFB&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1581692638 SINGAPORE - The States Times Review (STR) Facebook page was on Friday (Feb 14) ordered under the fake news law to put up corrections alongside false statements it made about the coronavirus outbreak. This is the second order issued against STR under the Protection from Online Falsehood and Manipulation Act (Pofma) for bogus claims about the coronavirus crisis. STR had earlier falsely claimed that Singapore ran out of face masks. To date, the law has been used to deal with four cases of falsehoods related to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease, known as Covid-19. On Friday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong instructed the Pofma Office to issue corrections against "multiple false statements" in a post that STR put up the day before. The post, which was about the 30,000 Chinese work pass holders who have not returned to Singapore, was shared more than 300 times. Among the erroneous claims were that Singapore had not been able to trace the source of infection for any of the infected Covid-19 cases here. The Government described the claims made by STR as "entirely false", and rebutted them point by point in a statement on its fact-checking website, Factually. On the source of infections, the statement said the Ministry of Health (MOH) had in fact established through epidemiological investigations and contact tracing that 51 out of the 58 people infected with the virus either had travelled to China or come from there, or had links to previously announced cases. Contact tracing is under way for the remaining seven locally transmitted cases, to see if there are similar links or travel history to China. The STR had also said the Government is "the only one" telling people not to wear masks. This is not true, as the MOH's advice is in line with the World Health Organisation's guidance, and similar to advice given by health authorities in countries such as the United States and Australia, said the government statement. MOH's advice is that there is no need for people who are well to wear a mask, but those with respiratory symptoms should don one to minimise the risk of infecting others. STR made two other false claims about the daily $100 allowance for workers on a leave of absence, and Manpower Minister Josephine Teo's remarks about Chinese workers. Rebutting the claims, the Government said Chinese work pass holders placed on a mandatory 14-day leave of absence "do not receive the $100 daily support". Though the Leave of Absence Support Programme covers all workers, regardless of nationality, it is employers that receive the support, it added. These employers must have workers who travelled to China on or before Jan 31 this year, and who were placed on leave of absence after returning to Singapore on or after Jan 31. The Government also made clear that Mrs Teo never said she was working hard to bring more Chinese workers back to Singapore. On the contrary, the Manpower Ministry (MOM) has put in measures to slow down the return of affected work pass holders, like requiring employers to get prior approval before their workers can return, said the statement. It has also rejected more applications than it has approved. The STR had also said seven countries have since banned travel to Singapore due to lack of confidence in the measures taken so far to curb the spread of the virus. But as of 8pm on Thursday, there have been no such bans by any countries, said the Government. The STR Facebook page is run by Singaporean Alex Tan, who has received three Pofma orders so far since the laws against misinformation kicked in last October. He has not complied with any of the orders, and said he is now an Australian citizen. Besides issuing a correction order to Mr Tan, the Pofma Office also issued a Targeted Correction Direction to Facebook on Friday, requiring the social media company to put up the corrections on the STR post. The office had done the same in previous Pofma cases involving STR. The Government also advised people to get the latest updates on the Covid-19 situation from official sources such as the MOH website and Gov.sg WhatsApp service, and to report any suspected falsehoods to [email protected].
  9. i think we all are aware of the high number of incidents/accidents related to heavy vehicles. be it toppling, or crashing into other vechicles or causing accidents directly or indirectly. please drive very defensively when you see them on the road and stay away from them if possible. I was once nearly ran off the road when 1 of them changed lane without looking and i was beside it. Jammed brakes immediately and still my side mirrors got scratched...glad to be alive. didn't think much about it till recently i heard a friend of mine working in the transportation industry that there are a lot of accidents lately because a lot of the drivers are either from China or other countries. They are not use to the "road culture" here and like in China, they still believe that as long as you have a bigger vehicle, you have the right of way. I know that different countries really have different road cultures and therefore I can foresee more of such incidents happening as long as FTs are willing to take lower salaries to do all these long hours and difficult work. Noticed that there is no such warning or actions from TP all these while, so we better protect ourselves and our families. All the best and drive safe...stay away from them...stay far away.
  10. Foreign pickpockets strike on bus: They cut pants to steal money from wallet STOMPer Kim Soon was a victim of a pickpocketing incident on Friday morning. He said a foreign commuter pretended to sleep beside him on the bus but later the STOMPer found his pants had been cut and money stolen from his wallet. Said the STOMPer: "This incident happened to me on Friday, around 9.40am. "Two men, who looked like they are from northern China, boarded bus 62 around Aljunied Road. Both are big-sized, about 1.75m in height. "They look in their 40s, with one sporting a shaved head and carrying a black sling bag. He sat beside me on the bus. "I did not feel them cutting my pants, but when the guy leaned against me to sleep, I could feel some body contact. "However, I was preoccupied with my thoughts and I was listening to music. "I only realised my pants had been cut and my money taken after they alighted from the bus. "As the bus is a loop service, they boarded the bus from the bus stop opposite about 20 minutes later, at 10.10am. "I recognised them and enlisted the help of the bus driver to close the doors so they would be unable to escape, but they got away before the doors closed. "I lodged a police report, but the bus does not have a CCTV camera installed as it is one of the older buses." The STOMPer described in an email: "Beware that there is a group of pickpocket crooks from China targeting passengers of single deck buses. "They will sit beside a passenger, whose wallet is placed at the back of the pants. "Then, they will lean with their shoulder agaist the seat and their back facing the targeted passenger. "While pretending to be asleep, these crooks will start using sharp object to cut the pants of the passenger and take the cash out from the wallet. "The whole process is done without taking out the wallet. "Thus, the passenger will not be aware that his valuables are being stolen! "Once the crooks get the cash, they will alight the bus immediately. "These crooks should be operating in pair and they speak in China accents. "One is doing the stealing and another one is sitting somewhere in the bus as a watchdog. "Be very careful and alert when someone is sitting beside you with his back facing you in a bus!"
  11. Hi Everyone; BEWARE of this shop! Lian Kiat Alloy Tyre & Battery Center along Jalan Jurong Kechil. Recently I was duped and conned by this dishonest shop owner in his 60's. He charged me $950 for 4 Falken Tyres whereby the usual price is around $440. You may ask why I paid so much without comparing prices. The reason was that I had done some tyres change at this place and found him to be decent and therefore I let my guard down the last time thinking that he would be honest as usual. Also I realized his tricks are to act innocent, speak very fast and mumble to himself; he will unscrew and take out your old tyres and then he will tell you there is no stock and recommend you some brands made in China. You will get very frustrated waiting for him to get his tyres from elsewhere and you are at his mercy as you cannot drive away without the tyres. I went back to ask his why over-charged me by more than $500 and he told me all kinds of stories saying COE and house prices have gone up. I told him this does not give him the right to overcharge by 200%. He said it was a done deal as it was done willingly by both parties. Hope no one get conned by him again!

  13. Beware! Double deductions of your cashcard value as you exit car park. On the 29th May, I was at ComCenter at Somerset. When I was at the exit gantry. It said no entry record. Hence, I insert my cash card to the reader but still unable to exit. I reversed to the other gantry beside this one and the same thing happened. Then the deduction was done but the barrier remained down. I called Wilson Parking and she said she would let me out. Just as the barrier was lifted up, the second deduction showed again from my IU unit! NBzzz, I then exited and parked my car at the roadside and went back down to call Wilson Parking again. She advised me to check my transaction history to prove the double deductions. Next day, there were no double deductions shown on my transaction history! However, I knew the value of my cash card and had also just topped up last night before I exited ComCenter. Suay Liao I thought. How to prove the double deductions if the history said otherwise. I called Wilson Parking again and she said there is only 1 deduction based on my cashcard transaction history and hence it seemed like I had no case here! Therefore, I called NETS and told another lady about my predicament. She advised me to fax her the transaction receipt and details about the event. I asked her if she could find out even though the history only showed 1 deduction? She said "yes", I went "Hmmm". When she returned with her investigation after I had faxed her. Viola, true enough there were double deductions! This is even though the history said otherwise! Then the Wilson Parking Technician said that this event is very common everywhere, and there is still no solution in sight! In conclusion, there seems to be the case of the parking vendors "makan" our money and not the other way round whereby they give us money! This is common as he said so. I smell a rat. If you are unaware of the value of your cash card but suspect something, you may think nothing of it as the history hides this scrupulous activities! Hence, I will like this to be make public to the media perhap and I need asisstance in this matter....thanks for reading. Max

  15. I installed my 2-channel in October last year. The unit either shut itself off during very hot weather like these days OR worst render my car battery flat if you ON the unit at the Power Magic. Able to us 64 GB but may go haywire at times! Installer suggest JUST 32 GB! That is, it is just good when driving AND NO GOOD for parking mode (just 3-4 hours before it flattened your car battery!!) Yes! I went back to the installer who is now suggesting a replacement of power magic for another ADDITIONAL $388 (beautiful number isn't it??) battery pack (batteries similar to handphone) just to power Blackvue. Yes! Both power magic and Blackvue has a "one year warranty" and the installer claimed that they no more install power magic AND most "small" car owner come back to install their $388 battery pack! Isn't this falling under the Lemon Law? So, people, don't simply think that a Made-in-Korea product is good judging by its video output. Careful of who your installer are!
  16. Amoebas devour girl's cornea after contact lenses stay in for 6 months File photo depicting a case of Acanthamoeba Keratitis. Acanthamoeba keratitis, first recognized in 1973, is a rare, vision threatening, parasitic infection seen most often in contact lens wearers. Thursday, Jul 03, 2014The China Post/Asia News Network By Lin-Yi Shen TAIPEI, Taiwan - A college girl was found to have had both the corneas of her eyes devoured by amoeba after wearing disposable contact lenses for over half a year without taking them out. The girl bought a pair of disposable contact lenses that were supposed to be used for one month and wore them for more than six months, even while she was sleeping. After feeling acute pain in her eyes, she went to hospital and was diagnosed with acanthamoeba keratitis, which is caused by a protozoon called an amoeba. The infection was brought on by dirty water that she used to clean her face, doctors said. Acanthamoeba keratitis, commonly referred to as amoeba keratitis, usually afflicts contact lens wearers or people whose eyes come into contact with dirty water. Director of ophthalmology at Wan Fang Hospital Wu Jian-liang indicated that contact lens wearers are a high-risk group that can easily be exposed to eye diseases. A shortage of oxygen can destroy the surface of the epithelial tissue, creating wounds in the eyes and cultivating an environment suitable for amoebas to survive. Wu said that the college girl did not follow the correct procedure in maintaining the hygiene of her contact lenses and her overuse of the lenses gradually damaged her corneas. After half a year of wearing them, her corneas were devoured by amoeba and shrank to half their normal size. Unfortunately, polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) or chlorhexidine, which are considered to be effective medicines in eliminating such amoebas, haven't yet been introduced to Taiwan, said Wu. Director of ophthalmology at Tri-Service General Hospital Lu Da-wen warned that no matter whether they are soft or hard, contact lenses should not directly come into contact with water, as this will increase their chances of becoming infected by other viruses and protozoon. Lu also stated that cases of acanthamoeba keratitis usually increase markedly during summer, and people should therefore pay more attention to proper hygiene at this time. - See more at: http://yourhealth.asiaone.com/content/amoebas-devour-girls-cornea-after-contact-lenses-stay-6-months#sthash.90qOvv55.dpuf

  18. I just received TWO letters from LTA. Saw them lying on my desk and I have a very bad feeling. Opened it, and found that they are for 2 separate offences. 1. 25 sept 1108 - Fine 130 2. 25 Sept 1309 - Fine 130 Offences, both for stopping in a full day bus lane. What happened was that there was an impt document i need to get from a client to be signed and returned along robinson road, outside Sing Investment Building. What I did was to drive, stopped for 1 sec, wind down window and get the doc. Went to get it signed, and same thing, wind down window to return the doc. 2 hours apart. When i drove there, i scanned and have ensured that there wasnt any LTA camera man or Any approaching bus. Tot i was safe.. until now. So dun take it for granted. You never know where they are hiding. Learn from my lesson.. 260 is 2 full tanks for me. Sian.
  19. We took First coach to kl this week. Bought return tickets and on the way up realized that we left the return journey tickets at home ( our fault). We contacted the office once we arrived. They have on record our names, ticket no., mode of payment etc. But refused to issue new tickets. We would have gladly bought new tickets if they do not have records, but they actually repeated our names tel no. And confirm that we are the passengers then tell us that there will be no new issue unless we can show them the return tickets- duh! Then after we purchase new tickets, told us we can get refund within 7 days if we show our unused tickets in Singapore. Today, when we got to the office, they claim they are just agents and refund will take at least 2 months and will be in ringgit although we pay in Singapore dollars. I simply cannot understand why when they know all the details of passengers, they still will not replace tickets. To me this is a matter of principle. For airlines, we just need to show passport to get a boarding pass. So for those who want to travel with this company, be extra careful. I wonder if other bus companies are the same? Anyone have encountered the same problem?
  20. If you have a flashpay credit card, beware. It used NFC and can be read by rogue readers and apps, just by someone standing beside you. Even mobile phone now has NFC which opens up another security concern. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKks3vfiy6Q
  21. as the title mentioned, i think the victims will probably sell the cars off asap after it has been repaired if possible...so keep a lookout of the low price and telltale sign when inspecting such potential cars
  22. For those who frequent this branch, pls be aware that their weighing machine at the counter charge higher compare to their self-service machine. I used the counter that is nearer to the exit/entrance area. I forgoten the counter no. I mailed a local Singapore documents. Self-service machine : 245g at S$1 Counter machine : 250g at S$1.50 I paid S$1.50 at the counter. Feeling buay song (being cheated), i walked back and demand for the difference S$0.50. Which government department in charge of catching market stall owner "eat chin tao" (cheat extra gram in hokkien)? I must forward them this email. ================================== Below are their reply. Almost faint after reading it. They didnt even mention that they are going to do anything. That means continue to "eat chin tao" Dear XXX We apologise for not being able to respond to you as we were in the midst of checking this with the business manager. We deeply regret to hear of your unpleasant experience. The self service machine at Ang Mo Kio Central Post Office is working fine. However the weighing scale at the parcel counter is sometimes not accurate because of the pressure from the air conditioner blower above the the parcel counter. Extra few grammes are sometimes added due to this. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you once again for bringing this matter to our attention. Regards, XXX Customer Care Officer Customer Care & Excellence Singapore Post Limited (Reg. No. 199201623M)

Finally, today let me see the juicing lady spraying plain water very quickly while juicing. Confronted them and they say boss asked them to do so. Freaking a**holes. Last time they get my business.
