  1. Hi everyone Pls take extra care when u see this red civic (shld be a EG i tink). Today nearly die, bang barrier or suffer chain collision thanks to tis civic driver. He looks to be ard late 20s with another guy fren, not sure if his intention is to purposely cause an accident or pure stupidity on his part. What happened is I'm on my PIE towards Tuas, following behind a m'sia accord with 2 car length gap at a constant speed of 85-90km/h. Traffic is moderate and there was a hogger 2 cars infront of the accord. This civic came out of nowhere on my left and cut into my lane by trying to force me out of lane 1. He cut into my lane when his driver door is at my front left wheel area forcing me to jam brake n he continued his lane change despite me holding on to my horn for a good 3-4 sec. I managed to avoid a hard collision with him and once he is infront of me, he drives at 80km/h. Not sure what he is trying to do n i sibeh angry, I did something i shldn't have done which is to cut him back before I go on to lane 2 and continue my journey. Saw fm my rear mirror later that he too changed to 2nd lane 3-4 cars behind me. If u do meet him on the road do be careful.

  4. http://www.singaporelawwatch.sg/remweb/leg...;utm_medium=rss "Title: Buy-and-rent car scheme is illegal: LTA Source: Straits Times Author: Jessica Lim Legal News Archive THE Land Transport Authority (LTA) has flagged as illegal a scheme used by Fiat's sole distributor here to drum up sales. It is not only the company which has run afoul of the law, but also some 50-odd car owners who have been attracted to TTS Eurocars' buy-and-rent scheme. The LTA was responding to queries from The Straits Times which had highlighted the unusual sales tactic. The carrot to prospective buyers is that in return for making a new purchase, those burdened by existing car loans can rent out their existing cars through the firm's leasing arm to earn an income and thus pay off the loan. 5. To all you out there, I posted my car for sale 2 months ago due to overseas work assignment and was approached by a person, called himself Leon (Stanley under another company) who offered to take over my monthly installments and will rent the car out under his company name. Of cos, my 1st worry was that if accident, my insurance will not cover. He said not to worry, while the car is under his charge, insurance will be under his company's name. So I agreed to his proposal. Nearly 2 months down the road, I have not seen my 1st payment yet. I contacted him many times, always met with excuses, said dun worry, check with his HR and Accounts Dept, got problem with his Accounts Dept, got problem with my POSB account blah blah blah... And I'm stuck overseas, helpless to do anything. My boss was in the same situation, he has since returned to Singapore for 3 weeks already but have yet to get the car back from this guy. We have already lodged police report against him, but seems like the police are not able to do anything, they said it's just a Breach of Contract, not a crime. And there were already several reports made against him by previous victims. Not sure how long this guy has been in operation. Anyway, just like to warn all you guys out there of this scam going on. Take note if someone of the name Leon or Stanley, using the resources of Sgcarmart to contact unknowing owners, wants to take over your car for rental. Aside, any one knows of any action we can take against him? Some has proposed getting repo company to tow the car back. Appreciate all feedback and less reprimand (I realised I was gullible). But in a high car ownership cost country, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to lessen their financial burden? For those of you who are interested, you can take a look at the details; Name: Leon Chan Company: Elites Car Rental Number: 84000766 Another name: Stanley Number: 82531321 Drives a black Mazda RX-8 (not sure if it

  8. Just want to share with everyone who need to do the above. Please note that the charges is $0.50 per TRANSACTION and not based on the amount that you top-up. I have encountered 2 different charges being levied when I topped up $200 and $100 on two respective days. I questioned them initially seeing the sticker that says "$0.50 per transaction for Ez-link top up" being pasted on their cash register. The lady said that charges are according to the amount that is being top up and that so far no one has come in & do a top up of more than $50. Then I asked for the an official breakdown but was told that it is not available. The second time I did the top up I questioned the staff again and was informed that the staggered charges amount are reflected on 7-11 website and that I can go and check. I went to confirm their statement only to find nothing of such nature being stated there. Thus, I emailed them instead. The customer service executive confirmed that it is $0.50 per transaction as per my initial understanding. So, for those who have been told otherwise, just retain your receipt and email them. Btw, it is not about the money but the principle behind it that drives me to stand for my rights.

  10. I would like to share a recent experience regarding this subject. I was exiting 10-Mile Junction carpark turning left into Woodlands Road when I almost knocked down this uncle bicycle rider. I was looking right for oncoming traffic. When clear, I released my brakes and moved forward only to see uncle riding his bike right in front of me from my left to right! Obviously, he was riding on the pedestrian pavement and crossed the slip road that I was on without anticipating my movement forward. I wasn't expecting anything to appear, so luckily my reaction was fast enough to stop in time. That guy did not seemed fazed at all as he rode on merrily. I know many of us have encountered such riders, but here is a reminder of how dangerous it can be when people flout traffic rules blatantly, and to always look forward before releasing your brakes to move off. Cheers.
  11. Many are unaware of poisoning caused by re-using plastic bottles. Some of you may be in the habit of using and re-using your disposable mineral water bottles (eg. Evian, Aqua, Ice Mountain, Vita, etc), keeping them in your car or at work. Not a good idea. In a nutshell, the plastic (called polyethylene terephthalate or PET) used in these bottles contains a potentially carcinogenic element (something called diethylhydroxylamine or DEHA). The bottles are safe for one-time use only; if you must keep them longer, it should be or no more than a few days, a week max, and keep them away from heat as well. Repeated washing and rinsing can cause the plastic to break down and the carcinogens (cancer-causing chemical agents) can leach into the water that YOU are drinking. Better to invest in water bottles that are really meant for multiple uses. This is not something we should be scrimping on. Those of you with family - to please advise them, especially children." any recommendations for a good water bottle that can withstand heat?

  14. Yoyoyo bros, I put up my car for sale 2 days ago on sgcarmart as a direct seller then came this reply from someone called Etienne. He is willing to give u $2000 above market price but u must 1st transfer him $2000 before he will transfer money to u. This is his email as follows: Hello, I am interested in buying your car, but right now i have a pressing need.If everything turns out well then you will have a very nice reward plus the money for your car. I am a Captain with the UN troop in Iraq, and i have been here for some time now. During our weekly inspection on Oil companies, i got in contact with a Chief Security Detail to an Oil Firm who has already discovered an Oil Vessel which was not properly documented and my security crew impounded it. I have brokered a deal with an Oil Magnate who has bought the impounded product. Right now i am in possession of the Money which is 29.8million USD. Where i have a problem is how to secure this money because with my occupation as a uniformed officer i cannot be parading such an amount so i need a cover up (Helping hand) from you as the beneficiary of the fund with that i can send the money to you and instruct you on how to secure it for me. Please if you are interested in this deal inform me and i shall give you more details. Thanks, Capt. Paul Stehelin. I feel like replying him a short email F.U.C.* Y.O.U hahahaha
  15. Ladies, please be careful when taking the MRT, especially the crowded ones during peak hours. Guys, be more alert and protect your girlfriends, wives, from the groping hands of perverts (sex-maniacs). Encountered one this morning @ 8.40am at Bukit Batok MRT station. AND YOU! You know who you are, pretending to be the victim of the morning rush hour! You were very close to being bashed up and still had the cheek to shout at me! KNN! The train was very packed, (World class!?? ) and there was the usual rush when the train doors started to close. This I*d**n guy began to push his way thru and his hand was almost touching my wife
  16. The deal looked tempting enough - pay $50 and you will get a year's access to a explicit photos and video clips on an all-new porn site. Many Singaporeans took the bait, only to realize it was a scam after paying up and not receiving the "goods", according to a report by the Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News. The offer was posted on a blog, allegedly owned by a man who claims to be based overseas. In his post, the blogger said that he will be launching a new website, which will contain sex photos and video clips of himself. The site is only open to members, who will pay a $50 fee for a year's access. The blogger also said that due to the overwhelming response, individual queries will not be entertained. Users must first send money to the blogger's bank account, after which they will receive a username and password to the website via an automated email service. As an additional tidbit to potential members, the blogger also added that a sex chat service will be included in the deal. According to the Shin Min report, Singaporean Netizens who have signed up for the service only found out about the scam after they paid up. No username or password was emailed to them, nor was there a website. Victims of the scam were also unable to contact the blogger. When a Shin Min reporter went to check on the blog, it was already closed by the website's service provider and could not be accessed. A lawyer Shin Min spoke to said that the blogger's fraudulent post could mean a jail sentence of as long as 10 years and three months should be be convicted of two charges - one for posting information of a fraudulent nature, and the second for posting pornographic materials online. For the first charge, those found guilty can face up to 10 years in jail and a fine. Parties found guilty of the second charge can be jailed up to three months, be fined or both. However, due to the nature of the Internet, the blogger might not be based in Singapore. Thus, even if a police report was made in Singapore about the crime, he might not be able to be charged in Singapore. The lawyer referred to this as a "grey area
  17. Whilst updating software of my nokia 7373 connectd to PC and it lost connection resulted software failure. Send my phone to Customer Care Centre and they told me this phone is obsolete and no software or tools to perform recovery of the dead phone. Nokia always encourage software/firmware updating to ensure phone stability and operation. Nokia after sales service sucks.
  18. Guys, beware of TP on overhead bridge with camera along Telok Blangah Road going towards Pasir Panjang Road. Location is the first overhead bridge after Henderson Rd junction. TP hiding behind a corner board on the bridge and aiming the camera at the back of cars instead. I had been caught speeding earlier last year but that time the TP was aiming in the on-coming direction. Now they have opted to hide behind the board and shoot u from behind instead. Usually in the morning around 9am and used to see a police van parked before the bridge however today the van was not there but TP was up on the bridge with camera aiming. Have been very careful every morning travelling there after my ticket. So watch your back and slow down before and after the overhead bridge. You have been warned!!!!
  19. Hi all, Wanna relate my experience about bringing Malaysian and other foreign (non-Singapore) cigarettes that happened yesterday. Went to Holiday Plaza to tailor made a couple of pants and had me hair cut with my OC yesterday. After that went makan then headed back to SG; it was only 5+pm when we reache Gelang Patah (the one before the last toll to Malaysian customs and immigration) and ALL (Petronas, Shell, Mobil) were jammed packed with SG vehicles, had to queue for quite a while to top up petrol. Anyways, after I've finished pumping, went to pay at the counter and bought a packet of smokes (Malaysian of course). Forgetfully, I didn't opened it and smoked a stick and I left it in my OC's handbag. BIG MISTAKE. So off we went to clear Malaysian customs then proceeded to SG's customs and immigration.. cleared the passport then went for the inspection. The officer checked almost every part of my ride and when I noticed the officer asked my OC to open her handbag, only then did I remember that I had one packet of unopened smokes in it!! I was also body searched by a male officer. Naturally, the officer found it and both me and my OC had our passports withheld by the officer and then told to park our ride somewhere near the exit. In my heart, I was bloody panicking lah i tell you.. my OC, to my surprise, remained very calm (they always say before the big storm, it is always calm.. how true.. hahahaha). I was also body searched by a male officer Since the packet of smokes were found in her bag, she was unfortunately answerable for it. In the Customs office, I was asked to wait outside. From the window outside, I was able to see what was going on. The officer was naturally giving him a piece of his mind for bringing in smokes but thank god, she was let off with a warning and to pay the tax for that one packet only. (Together with my OC was a middle-aged guy, strange thing was, he had ONE OPENED packet but yet he was taxed too. That led me to wonder.. I think he could have either forgotten to declare or maybe he did it on purpose. Maybe when the officer asked if he had any smokes on him, he could have forgotten about it totally or he could have just play ignorance. Anyway, he was called into the office too.) What was shocking to me was, the officer who was collecting the money (very friendly chap i must admit) reminded us not to offend again as he had JUST fined one young chap S$1000 for bringing in 05 packets of dutiable smokes WITHOUT declaring it. What I understand was, for first time offenders, it'll be a fine of S$200 per packet and S$500 per packet thereafter. More importantly, the fine had to be paid ON THE SPOT. If not, the officer said it's off to the courts. So guys, just be very careful ya? For the kind of embarassment and possible fines per packet, i think it's just not worth it to try to hoodwink the authorities.. Oh by the way, the 'storm' came only after we reached home.. kena teruk teruk by OC!! Cheers Dex

  21. BBC Tourists warned of Thailand airport scam By Jonathan Head BBC News, Bangkok Bangkok's showcase new international airport is no stranger to controversy. Built between 2002 and 2006, under the governments of then-Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the opening date was repeatedly delayed. It has been dogged by allegations of corruption, as well as criticism of the design and poor quality of construction. Then, at the end of last year, the airport was shut down for a week after being occupied by anti-government protesters. Now new allegations have been made that a number of passengers are being detained every month in the duty free area on suspicion of shoplifting, and then held by the police until they pay large sums of money to buy their freedom. That is what happened to Stephen Ingram and Xi Lin, two IT experts from Cambridge, as they were about to board their flight to London on the night of 25 April this year. They had been browsing in the duty free shop at the airport, and were later approached by security guards, who twice asked to search their bags. Mr Ingram and Ms Xi were told they had to pay
  22. My friends were victims of a Highway Robbery along the NSHW! Beware all road trippers & travellers!! They were making a weekend trip to KL last Saturday but never made it there. About 60km from KL, a van swerved right into their path and braked, my friend couldn't brake in time and thus crashed into the rear of the van, which proceeded on it's way as though nothing happened. It is believed that the rear of that van was re-inforced cos the damage was minimal while my friend's ride was quite severe. Now, when this happened there were vehicles to the left of my friend's car which prevented him from swerving left to avoid the collision. These same vehicles promptly stopped by the accident site to offer "help" and about 10 persons dismounted from the said vehicles. They surrounded my friends and the accident vehicle, offering to tow the car to a workshop, settling insurance claims etc...all in the name of "helping". But I believe if my friends had allowed them to tow the car away, that would be the last they would ever see of it! Luckily, my friends got help through the proper channels and managed to get the car towed back to Singapore. Even then, a few valuables were discovered to be missing from the car when they finally arrived at IDAC, Singapore. More importantly, nobody was injured and all of them made it back to Singapore alive & well. We all thought these things can only happen to other people, never to one of us, but this incident is a sobering reminder that this type of thing can happen to anybody at anytime !
