  1. Just saw this ... Anybody got this PDA Phone yet?
  2. To be honest, i think this is neither lite nor easy , but theres nowhere else to post this. I will be starting up my own business when i get back but i'm unsure of how to go about it. Could someone tell me if the process is correct. I've a few questions too. I know i probably will have to register with ACRA first, but if the business is not done at the business premises (which will be just an office for all admin work) do i list that as the business address as all the works will be done at our contract locations. Next i'm guessing will be where i can apply for other accounts and services (e.g. business bank accounts, telecommunication services, contracts for supply of consumable materials, etc). After that i can apply for a small loan right? Currently I will be self-funding most of the business costs but i will probably need to take out a loan for one piece of necessary equipment (i.e. a hire-purchase vehicle loan to get to and from locations or should i just get a vehicle loan- are they the same in sg as they are different here in aust). Now the questions: 1)I have 2 options for the business address (its a home office). One a HDB flat (fully paid up) and the other a piece of landed property, but under my family's name but my name is not part of the title/deed. Can i use either (which would be better) or do I have to rent somewhere that has my name? 2) The business will start out in one industry (e.g. A) but if everything goes well it will venture into multiple industries (hopefuly within 2 years), but with A as a secondary business. Do i list the type as A or all the different industries for registration? 3) I was hoping to register the company in a generic name (e.g. ABCD) but use individual names each of the targeted industries (e.g. 1234). Can it be done so as ACRA says that i have to use the registered business name. Alternatively can i use the individual name and have the line "a subsidiary of ABCD" etc? 4) I don't think I need to register for GST as i do not expect gross profits to exceed the $1 million mark for at least 3 years (much lower to be exact), but would it still be advisable to do so?? 5)Does have any financial institutions to recommend for the vehicle business loan/hire-purchase? As much as low interest rates are good, I would prefer paying more for one that has excellent customer relations. 6)Would singtel or starhub be better in obtaining mobile (will be used intensively) and fixed phone services? Also for the internet as the company website will be hosted via another company's server, should i get a business internet connection or should i just use my current home connection to access emails and update the site? Thanks for the advice in advance.
  3. 5. abt last para on cheaper car park, not true .... and wat capitamall said also not true ... Car park rates increase in Central Business District By Song Kian Yong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 04 January 2007 2049 hrs Photos 1 of 1 http:/// SINGAPORE: Be prepared to pay higher parking charges in the Central Business District (CBD). A simple case of demand and supply has pushed up rates in multi-storey car parks. Parking at the Market Street car park for nearly two hours will land one with a bill of S$8. This is based on the new rate of S$2 per half hour or part thereof which took effect on January 1 this year. This is effectively 11 percent higher than the old rate. In the view of some, this is quite a hefty amount to pay for city parking. Public car parks such as the Market Street and Golden Shoe car parks were recently refurbished with new amenities and a swankier look. CapitaCommercial Trust, which runs the two car parks, said the charges were raised because of the high demand for parking space in the Raffles Place area. Some car park users also feel that such a trend is inevitable, given the limited space available in the CBD area. But if one must drive into the CBD, it is useful to note that SGX Centre, Great Eastern Centre and Asia Chambers, among others, currently offer lower parking rates. - CNA/so

  8. Taken from the Business Times today... Comfort quitting 2 businesses, 50 jobs may go Taxi operator's 9-mth profit jumps 40.5% to $72.6m By CHRISTOPHER TAN (SINGAPORE) Singapore Labour Foundation-linked Comfort Group is dumping its courier and car distribution businesses - a move expected to cost 50 or more jobs - despite posting another set of glowing financial results yesterday. In an apparent review of all 'non-core' activities in light of its proposed union with bus group DelGro Corp, Comfort said it would exit the two loss-making businesses on March 30. Analysts reckon there may be more streamlining to come. Last year, the group sold another business in Hong Kong, barely a year after buying into it. It has yet to receive full payment for the sale. It also sold NCH (Tampines), a venture that developed executive condos, last year. Comfort, which is reliant on the taxi business, yesterday posted a 40.5 per cent rise in net earnings to $72.6 million for the nine months ended Dec 31, 2002. Turnover was up 8.4 per cent at $369.9 million. Its profitability was boosted by the continued conversion of smaller taxis to bigger ones (which command higher rental from the drivers), as well as Singapore's lowered corporate tax rate. The latter resulted in a $6.8 million writeback for the period. G K Goh senior analyst Teo Hiang Boon reckons its full-year earnings will hit $94 million - or nearly 40 per cent higher than the previous record of $68 million. Despite the less-than-ideal timing, exiting the car and courier businesses was not entirely unexpected. Comfort entered motor distribution back in 1996 to great fanfare. After selling previous franchises (including Peugeot, which current representative Sime Darby is said to be making decent returns from), the latest move jettisons the remaining Seat and Perodua car units, as well as the Hicom truck unit, a non-starter. It entered the courier business in 2000, when it sought to tap the potential of the delivery service on the back of a booming e-commerce sector. It also had scooters left over from the relinquished Piaggio agency. The e-commerce boom did not quite materialise. With the imminent merger with DelGro, analysts say Comfort - as well as DelGro - will review all non-performing and non-core businesses. For the period under review, Comfort's earnings per share rose to nine cents, from 6.4 cents previously. Net asset value per share stood at 65.2 cents, from 59.6 cents at March 31, 2002. The board has declared a second gross interim dividend of 9 per cent, or 2.25 cents. Together with the interim dividend paid on Dec 17, total interim dividends for the nine-month period is 15 per cent, or 3.75 cents.
  9. Guys, Over the weekend, I visited my favourite haunt in JB. Sorry GL1500, I didn't contact you. It was a last minute thing. But I did not service the car, so I shall be going in again soon. Will let you know then.. As you can summised, I sent the car to the workshop and then decided not to do the servicing. But I did a car wash, as is my habit, and after our last COOLTRONIC grounding where I saw that Presea could actually fry an egg on his engine and Gadgeter could actually see his face, I damn paiseh, so decided to also send for engine wash. The whole thing cost me R$16. ( This includes the normal wash and vacumn ) Thats not the story. Before the wash, I was having problems with starting, not that cannot start, but must crank the engine a couple more times than usual. But funny thing is, after the wash, the car turn over immediately every single time...???? And also I had less problems with the aircon... Anyone knows why..? Cheers..
