  3. f**king horrible service from Car Lite Singapore Pte Ltd. Made a booking Mitsubishi Lancer Ex from 10/02/2023 - 12/02/2023, reach earlier prior to booking time to my shock car was so badly damaged, bumper falling off and external all scratches. No choice cancelled this booking and was stuck at the carpark for 1.5 hour plus with Evan and his friend just to see if I can book another replacement vehicle. Ended up called there customer service to complain and was told the only available car was either a van or Mazada 3. It was already so late no choice I had to just rebook and make do with this Mazada 3 which was also so cui. Bumper also coming off and so many scratches. Returned the car on 12/02/2023 way earlier to my end trip booking timing, but untill now my intitial deposit of $100 for the vehicle and my wallet balance still isn't refunded to me because they charging us for damages?! But it isn't even caused by me. P.S Just look at their website photos, car all looks so nice but in actual when you borrow the car is totally different.

  5. This poll is inspired by a car i saw earlier today, and also the recent announcement by HDB that there is no longer a need to display the season parking RFID tag any more. Some may think having too many decals and stickers is an overkill, but others may like it and do the same on their own car. For me, i have a few decals but dont like to overclutter... As some of you may know, i have MCF sticker too haha... Do post pics of the decals and stickers that you are proudest of! cheers!

  9. Hello! We are a young and driven development team that needs your help. We are currently in the market research phase, and the aim is to create an OBD2 application to monitor the health of your car. There are already quite a few applications of this type on the market, but only a few deal with car data analysis, statistics, machine learning, and long-term prediction of potential problems. The purpose of our application is not to display fuel consumption. It is to collect and analyze data that we obtain from the car's computer and from the vehicle owner. The computer sends information through the OBD2 connection about the amount and consumption of oil, fuel, coolant, emissions, wear on certain vehicle components, speed, revolutions..., in other words, about the condition of the vehicle and the way it is used. We would collect this data through machine learning and analyze it, presenting it in a user-friendly way in the application. In this way, we can alert the user about defects and worn components a few weeks before the warning light surprises us (which in most cases does not provide much information on its own). When the mechanic resets the service warning light (or when we detect an abnormal deviation from the average in certain values), the application sends a notification to the user's phone and prompts them to enter which components were replaced and the cost of the repair. With the user's permission, the application would send data to our cloud, where users of the same vehicles could "compete" with each other (in terms of consumption, costs, vehicle efficiency, driving style...) while also making it much easier to buy and sell a vehicle as most buyers prefer to purchase a vehicle with a known history, and you will be able to sell your car more easily. Future buyers will therefore be more prepared for the maintenance costs of such a vehicle, which is still a major fear and reason against purchasing more prestigious car brands. The analysis and presentation of all this data is useful for all of us, as we can more accurately compare certain models and brands of vehicles, their consumption, the lifespan of individual components and the vehicle, and maintenance costs, as never before. For this purpose, we would need about 1 minute of your time to complete the survey below: https://forms.gle/cRRSrUhreUebrYHo8 Thank you! Suggestions and criticism is welcome.

  12. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/vehicle-buyers-to-pay-more-as-lta-increases-its-fees-registration-fee-up-59-per-cent-to-350 In a letter sent on Dec 5 to motor traders, which was obtained by The Straits Times, the LTA said 25 fees and charges will rise from Dec 19. They include fees for vehicle registration as well as those for certificate of entitlement (COE) transfers, vehicle-type approvals and vehicle recall notifications. LTA said the hikes were necessary to keep up with administrative costs, adding that the last revision was in 2017. Most fees will be increased by between 10 and 25 per cent, with the vehicle registration fee seeing the sharpest spike at 59 per cent. This fee, which is payable each time a new vehicle is registered for use in Singapore, will go up from $220 to $350. It was raised periodically over the years. The fee was $140 in 2000 and then increased to $220 in 2017 – a 57 per cent hike. For motorcycles, the registration fee was $5 before 1998. Given that 45,000 to 125,000 new vehicles are registered each year, the increase in the registration fee alone could add $5.9 million to $16.3 million to LTA’s revenue. Motor traders were surprised by the LTA move, which comes as COE premiums remain at near record levels and core inflation stays high. Mr Neo Nam Heng, chairman of diversified motor group Prime, said: “Everything is increasing – from vehicle inspection to chicken rice. This will only add to costs, which may be passed on to consumers.” Mr Nicholas Wong, general manager of Honda agent Kah Motor, said: “I think in this period of high COE prices and poor market sentiment, it is bad timing for the increase.” An ST report showed that car buyers have been shying away from showrooms amid sky-high COE prices, with scores of car sales staff leaving the industry as well. Added Mr Wong: “The most impactful is the increase in registration fee from $220 to $350 – this is a 59 per cent jump! I think it’s not justifiable, and adds to the inflation rate. Dealers will have to absorb these costs.” Mr Neo Tiam Ting, director of parallel importer Think One, said: “Under current costing, there would be no change. But moving forward, when dealers redo their costing, they will include this increase. Most dealers include it (the registration fee) in the packaged price.” Mr Norman Lee, a director at motorcycle retailer Race Werks, said: “Isn’t it ironic that most LTA services are already digitised, online or self-service. “Yet, over the years, such costs have had to rise, instead of falling because of cost savings and increased productivity?”

  15. Took me quite some time to piece all the information together for this thread, which I have wanted to start a few months back. No right or wrong here, just some personal opinions on why I think the AD plays an important role in determining the resale value of the model sold by them. Feel free to share your thoughts (a forum is meant for members to engage in meaningful discussion, isn't it?) Many ADs has been playing hard to maintain the sales price of new car sold by them, citing reasons such as protecting customer's interest (by not having an unusually wide price fluctuation from month to month), guarantee a good resale value in the used car market (used car price is tagged almost directly to new car pricing), better service if buying the car from them directly, etc. But is that always the case? It is an open secret that when ADs are not able to meet their sales target, they will register the new car and sold it as used car through their used car division of even 3rd parties. I am using PML and Wearnes as an example below, to highlight the adverse effects of doing so. PML (BMW) With the new X3 priced from $302,888 (xDrive20i) / $308,888 (xDrive20i M-Sport) before over trade, the profit margin is between $68K to $71K, which is almost 150% of their respective OMV! Even after an generous O/T of say ~$30K, the net car price will still be around $270K to $280K. Yet PML would rather sell brand new unit at a much lower price (estimated to be ~$250K+) every month to used car dealers, only for it to be listed as used car, than to price it down to similar level for genuine buyers (direct PML customer). This is the screen grab I have taken from sgcarmart.com and the list is not exhaustive. You can even find pre-facelift X3, which was registered exactly a year ago, on the list (there are actually several units available, but the dealer don't want to give potential buyer the impression that they have to lelong the car in their inventory)! Based on the info I have, used car dealers got these units last year at just $200K thereabout, so they can continue to hold and wait (for uninformed buyer). So what does it got to do with resale value? Well, we all know that in a few years time, when the owner want to sell their ride, used car dealers will probably offer PARF + remaining COE value + another few $$$K for the body, and given the record breaking COE premium currently, the owner is likely to burn >$150K in just <5 years (buy at $280K, sell at $105K - $120K max. at 5th year). That's when some will KPKB that BMW has low resale value, nope? Wearnes (Volvo) Let look at the total number of V60 Cross Country and V90 Cross Country registered in the first 5 month of this year, 13 units in total. Want to make a guess how many of this units are sold as brand new used car? 1, 2 or 3? Well, I found 5 units listed on sgcarmart.com (I have reasons to believe there are more units available but not advertised - 'cos I saw at least another 1 - 2 units parked outside Wearnes Pre-Owned, probably management unit, which will eventually be sold as used car). That translate to ~40 to 50% of the new car sold as used. Reason for doing that? Having to meet sales quota without lowering the new car price. BTW, the profits for both model range from ~$67K to >$100K (before O/T), I will leave it to the readers to decide if that is reasonable for the brand. In the case of Volvo, it is a double whammy for the owners (be it brand new from Wearnes or brand new used car / management unit), as not only they are experiencing paper lost as what I have described above, with many used car in the market with transfer count of more than 1, the resale value will be further suppressed. One just need to browse the used car list on sgcarmart.com for the earlier model, and some can be had for ~$14K annual depreciation (in the current climate of $100K COE, so I cannot imagine when the COE return to $50K, these used car will have <$9K depreciation??) One particular unit of V60 Cross Country has been put up for sales for at least 2 months, with asking price of <$190K (for a 6 months old car) till the owner gave up and sell it to Eurokars Pre-Owned, so does that paint a picture that matches what I have written so far?

  18. Just curious, at what price level of car price you will be able to afford at different total asset scenario. the three diff question shows at 3 diff stage of total asset scenario. BMW means public transport. assuming total asset include your residence, investment, cash etc minus off loan.
  19. Ever seen a car with a big plume of white smoke in its wake? Guess you are going to now! Passers-by who happened to be in the vicinity of the local Jaguar dealership were treated to the amazing sight of a trail of billowing smoke from a black car that peeled into the premises. Watch the video here: 305049755_171661618772581_2698647415225735711_n.mp4 That's crazy! Talk about smoking! At the start the car's smoking trail was already quite a sight to behold. But then, the height of the smoke trail just kept growing, and growing... till it covered a good portion of the dealership front! The smoke was slowly dissipating in the wake of the car's departure, lending to its mysterious getaway not unlike a scene from a James Bond movie... We wonder if the car was rushing in for a refund! Just kidding. The Scientific Explanation We don't see this everyday--- so why do such phenomena occur? One of the reasons we found was that coolant could have gotten into the car's combustion chambers, thereby causing the appearance of the white smoke. In some cases, it could also be that the driver used the wrong fuel for his car (very dangerous) or that there was high friction from the tyres, generating the white smoke. Jokes of the day As expected, netizens made us chuckle with their witty takes on this unusual occurrence. LOL! It really does remind us of the fumigation sessions at the grass patches! Hmm, maybe it was Jaguar who opted for a new in-house service instead! Another netizen remarked that it looked like the dry ice trail from the Swensen's ice cream... We won't disagree... The food comments are making us really hungry, lol! Not an everyday sighting While it was an interesting sight, we hope the driver of the car gets his vehicle checked out for good as generating this amount of smoke often could be harmful to the environment and pedestrians around him. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 20. At every car show or new model introduction, auto manufacturers would always come out with a long list, stating the unique features of their cars, but many a times, these features might just be forgotten over time, or simply taken for granted. These features may be a real technology break through (e.g. engine, gearbox, safety, etc.), or mechanical / electrical (e.g. spoiler, door opening mechanism, head / tail light, etc.). To kick start, anyone still can recall the following terminology? - Twin Door - Bi-Modal Trunk - Waku Waku Gate Sounds familiar? or are they aliens to you? or you think you know something about it? Well these are fanciful names given to boot / trunk / tailgate that open in more than 1 way. Twin Door by Skoda When the 2nd generation Skoda Superb was unveiled in 2008, the car come with many wow factors. But the one that really standout, at least to me, is the dual opening boot lid. It feel just like a small magic show, to see the 4 door sedan opening up it boot in 2 fashion, one like a typical sedan, and the other like a sport back. And after owning one for close to 4.5 years, I can attest to the usefulness of this feature, that ever allowed me to fit in up to 4x 24 - 28" language at one go, and even transporting a 3ft fish tank with the rear seats in-place (not folded). Bi-Modal Trunk by BMW Shortly after the Skoda Superb go on sales in early 2009, BMW follow suit with it own version of dual opening mechanism on the 5 series Gran Turismo Concept (which later debut as the love or hate it 5 GT), and give it the name Bi-Modal Trunk, which sound a little more sophisticated than the Czech brand. While it offer the same flexibility of a hatch back when opened in full (sport back mode), it offer much less practicality when opened in sedan mode, due to it limited access to the boot via the tiny yet wide opening boot lid. Waku Waku Gate by Honda The dual opening mechanism seems very much forgotten till 2015, when Honda introduce it on the new JDM Stepwagon, and somewhat take this concept to the next level, by allowing the tailgate to be used by passenger to access into the last row of the MPV! All are welcome to post the unique features of your car(s), or what you have came across. Up next, what are so special about these MPVs, Nissan Prairie, Toyota Raum and Toyota Isis?
