  1. one of my absorber is leaking,do i change both or the leaking one?
  2. I had just changed all my struts for my near 7 yr old 170,000km ride as stock one has no comfort especially rough roads (wear and tear). However after changing I noted that the ride is still more on the harsh side or similar as before but cornering is better and stable. Is it normal to let it run for a while to be comfortable as original? I also hear the tyre noise like something like "galloping" tyre roar. Not so prominent. is it normal? Also changing of new struts warrant a alignment need? The steering is still dead straight when driving.. Pls advise.
  3. My car's IU is of the old type, and the screen starting to fade a little. Is it possible to change it to the new type? Or is it when replace still the old type? BTW, where to go change the IU?

  6. The PSLE system has been around for quite a while and many of us went through this gruelling stage in the early part of our lives to determine where we are heading in our minor-league rat race. So any tinkering or modification to it must be handled with extreme care after a rigorous and comprehensive review by experts. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...-worse-20121122 PSLE: Don't change for the worse Published on Nov 22, 2012 I AM not certain what the advocates for changes to the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) want, or what the decision to stop naming the top scorers means ("MOE stops naming top students"; yesterday). The system has worked well, and offers a fair and transparent way to allow the most academically inclined pupils to have their pick of secondary schools. The message is clear: To qualify for the school of your choice, you must work for it. Fight for your place if you believe that the school you want is relevant to your ambition and can provide the education you desire. Work harder if the school has a higher cut-off point, or ease up if it has a lower cut-off. Parents must learn to accept that perhaps their children are destined for other paths to success, and help them realise their potential. It is not a recent development that renowned schools like Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, Anglo-Chinese School and National Junior College have dominated scholarship lists, and produced outstanding graduates in top universities like Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard and Stanford. Demand for places in these schools will certainly outstrip supply; these schools have the pick of the best candidates who will benefit the most from their programmes. To enable children to get into their desired schools through a relaxation of the criteria is a travesty of meritocracy, akin to telling Cambridge and Harvard not to offer places to the brightest, and multinational corporations not to select the best. Have our children become so sheltered that their parents are not prepared to let them fight and compete for something worth their while? How long can we shield our children from the harsh realities of life? The sooner they learn to accept life's simple truths, the better for them. Resilience, adaptability and competitiveness are hallmarks of success. These are the qualities that will stand our children in good stead as they progress in life, and not to have what they want handed to them with less effort. The Government should not swing to the other extreme and possibly dumb down the education system, as Britain has found to its cost. In Singapore's case, the damage might be irreparable. 16. Hi all, Like to seek the advice and expertise of everyone in this forum. I was involved in an accident with a Taxi late last year and till today it has not been settled yet. I didn't claim from the taxi insurance as my repair is only $100! But the Taxi is claiming his 'holiday expenses' on me! Anyway, my question is what if I change my insurance company upon my insurance renewal and the settlement is not solved yet? Is it still liable to settle for me?

  21. Just like to share a good experience on change of brake pad, my car is a 2009 Isis, one of the headaches i face is that it's supposed to be a WISH but it's not really a WISH since some parts are different and since its not too common, i do worry about getting the right parts. Anyways been going regularly to the same workshop in the north for some time, last 2 visits at 40K & 50K been getting asked to change pads and skim rotors. I kind of dragged my feet on this and actually dreading it..with the cost of it and how change of ATF, spark plugs etc coincided.. At 70K, i went to another workshop nearer my house (Pasir Ris) same story change pad and skim Price quoted very similar = $230- $250 for brake pad Skimming =$70-$120 I decided to do more research on the internet....more confused and worried...ISIS vs WISH which brake pad...and in terms of rotors more. Discovered some good toyota stockist. Eventually went with Ric -Tat at Owen road...very nice experience there. Confident with price of purchase and also correctness of part!!... Brake pad= $65 Rotors =$210 for a pair Surfed around internet and read about Seng Long at Bukit Merah Lane 3...called and spoke to the boss Alan. Agreed on a price..went down. Was well pleased when i got there no big crowd on a saturday afternoon...his mechanic Ah Wing worked on my car. He worked with focus on my car. I asked them to inform him if i needed to replace rotors, he touched them look carefully and said my rotors were in good shape!! he even told me my rotors were not possible to do a skim...too thin my model. Was impressed by the honesty Brakes pads were fitted, all the old dust from the old pads cleaned up. Later he checked once both sides changed My brake pads according to the mechanic could go a little more, he showed me the part(like a clip spring) that would cause noise once worn down!! anyways, he said it was a good time to change but my rotors could wait longer. I was just happy to get the job done by honest no nonsense honest workshop and look forward to doing more jobs with them! guess..with all the push to skim rotors and change pads at 40K made me bit disappointed with the regular place...i doubt they even open up my tyre to check...after fitting the new pads Ah wing cleaned a lot of old dust from my brakes!! Anyways just to share my saving experience...i have set of spare rotors may try to exchange for something else at Ric-tat or just keep since with the current COE...my car will surely get thru the current rotors

  25. CNA reported: Low marks for local pre-schools By Ng Jing Yng, TODAY | Posted: 27 June 2012 0556 hrs SINGAPORE: The Republic has been placed in the bottom half of an international ranking on early childhood education, coming in 29th out of 45 countries. Conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and commissioned by the Lien Foundation, the study looks at various aspects of the pre-school environment in each country, such as affordability and quality, to compute an overall Starting Well index. European countries dominated the top 20 spots with Finland and Sweden leading the pack, while India was ranked last. Among the Asian countries, South Korea had the highest ranking at 10th place, followed by Hong Kong at 19th place. Singapore was the highest ranked among the South-east Asian countries. When it comes to the specific indicators, Singapore ranked 30th in the quality of pre-school education due to factors such as a high student-teacher ratio and lower academic requirements for its pre-school teachers. Singapore has a one to 20 teacher-student ratio and its teachers require a minimum of five O-level credits and a diploma in pre-school education. The top ranking country Finland, in comparison, has an average ratio of 11 pupils per teacher and a bachelor's degree is needed to qualify as an early childhood educator. In terms of affordability, which looks at features like government subsidies and the cost of a private pre-school, Singapore ranked 21st. The intention of the study is "not to be fixated with the rankings but to look at the best practices" in early childhood education around the world, said Lien Foundation chief executive Lee Poh Wah. The findings, presented yesterday, come at a time when the Government is implementing changes to the pre-school sector. Ongoing efforts include a review of pre-school curriculum guidelines and raising pre-school educators' qualifications. If what the report stated are true, what our kids learn during 3 years in pre-schooling (nursery & 2 yrs kindergarden).... Our Gov spend so much on education every year and we still ranked at 29th of the 45 countries been studied.... One consolation, ranked highest in South East Asia.
