  11. Was toying around on brake discs lately, both for safety and aesthetic reasons. Anyone did a change of rear brake drums to discs before? Can share the pros, cons and cost of the change? How about upgrading front brake discs to something better? Do we need to change brake pump when we change discs? I asked this because for example, I change my brake discs from a normal lancer to a vrm or a vr4 one, but I still keep the original brake pump. Does the bigger discs worked in this case? Or it will actually cost more stress on the current pump? Generally, how to know what are the various categories of brake discs we have? Thanks for sharing!
  12. Hi everyone, Dunno if this question has been asked before, but is there a sure way to tell whether it is time for a battery change before the battery completely fails on you? Measure with voltmeter across the terminals?
  13. Just spotted this at a website. Might be interesting to those who like to DIY their wheels, paint calipers, brake maintenance and perhaps soundproof the wheel arches. www.zonnex.com/products.html

  15. I just did my alignment and balancing not too long ago (< 1 mth). Will be changing my tyres soon. Do I need to alignment/balance them after the change?
  16. Hi there Just wanna share my experience I had today. I changed my own transfer case, differential case and transmission oils today. I used Caltex Gear Oil EP at S$17/4L bottle. It's SAE 80W145, GL5 rating. Normal gear boxers nowadays asks to be using at least a 90 oil. I used a total of 7.7L in all and I took 5hrs,with my back nearly breaking. I also used the cxxxxxe synthetic blend I bought some time back in Giant. On the first drive today aftetr the change, it's just super smooth cos it's new oil. Gotto minitor how the oil breaks down from time to time. But my advice to you is to let the garage earn the service charge unless you wanna get the satisfaction of a sore back and standing back to relive what you have done! The gear oil is available in Jurong Port Road Industral estate beside the Caltax Station. Regards Lester

  18. My car maintenance log recommend changing fuel filter at 40,000km ... Was at a mechanic the other day and asked how much it cost to change the fuel filter. He then proceed to tell me why there is no need to change fuel filter in Singapore. His theory is that, in Japan, and other temperate countries, there's 4 seasons .... during winter, the water content in the petrol will freeze and thaw when driving ... these causes lots of contamination in the fuel tank when will be captured by the fuel filter. In Singapore, there's no need to change till 5 yr old ... then explain to me that it's not that he dun want to earn my $$$, but he dun feel necessary. Come to think of it, in my previous Sunny, there's no need to change the fuel filter at all !! Comments guys ?
  19. i'm currently using a 185/60/R14 tires on my Accent 1.5 GLS. juz wondering will changing tires improve fuel economy?

  21. At least 8Lts for ATF, so 16 Liters??
  22. When is the earliest time that I should change my ATF? 10000km? Me driving Galant and Mit gear boxes are famed to be going bonkers. So what do you brudders suggest?
  23. Got these from a foreign site... very useful tips! Changing oil can be a messy job, so wear old clothes and have some hand cleaner handy. Make sure that your car is parked on a level grade, rather than on any sort of hill or inclined driveway. You'll need some place to take your old oil, so call a few gas stations or town hall to find out who recycles used oil. Warm oil drains more easily than cold oil, so run your engine for just a few minutes before you start. But be very careful: Don't let the oil get too hot, as some may splash on you.
