  1. my previous and current company gives me time off when employees need to go for reservist or rt. i was surprised when my friend who works in the engineering line is currently being FORCED to use his ANNUAL LEAVE for RT by the hr. is this normal practice? if this is normal then every year he will end up using all his leaves for RT. he is currently very depressed and confused because he didn't have this issue during his previous years. when he asked the hr how come last time it was allowed now not allowed he was told that last few years they have been giving him ample chances already WTF he is even considering leaving his job bcos of this issue and is currently asking around for lobangs.... i asked him if his manager and hr are FTs or what. he said no. they are singaporean..... ladies. he told me they had no clue what rt is and thought that rt is an optional excercise voluntarily taken up by guys... WTF my advise to him... f--k it and let mindef and his company sort it out themselves. he has called mindef and told them about the situation. mindef told him that it is not necessary to take annual leaves and that they will get back to him. he is currently waiting for their call. guess this is the thanks he gets for serving ns

  3. Mr Kevin Liang's brand-new Ferrari can usually go from zero to 100kmh in four seconds. As of last Thursday, it could not even crawl on its own power. Just 11/2 months old and costing more than $650,000, the F430 Coupe supercar was among the 100 vehicles submerged in the 500-space basement carpark at Tessarina condominium in Bukit Timah, as a result of a sudden flash flood that afternoon. Mr Liang, 47, a resident, received a call from his wife about his car's fate while he was at work. He said: 'It seemed that there was nothing I could do, so I didn't rush home. Besides, it is the company car, so I checked with the finance department and found that it is comprehensively insured.' He is the chief executive of the EPS group of companies which specialises in IT manpower outsourcing. Still, when he returned home that night and saw the submerged car, he could not help feeling sad. He had recently traded in an Audi R8 for the Ferrari - a reward for the directors of his company, who also get to use the car. His 18-year-old son put on swimming trunks to take pictures of the car that night. The next morning, Mr Liang went to the basement, after the water had been pumped away by PUB contractors, to watch his car being towed away. He said: 'It was completely muddy and it stank. I retrieved personal items like my CashCard and petrol card, but for now it's with the dealer and I'm waiting for updates.' Mr Liang added that while he does not know how bad the situation is, the damage looked bad. He and his wife have since had to park their other cars, a Mercedes and a BMW, on higher ground in the basement carpark. When The Sunday Times visited the Tessarina yesterday, some residents expressed their unhappiness about the event. Ms Viviana Halim, 23, who is in customer service, helped her mother drive away the family's Toyota, but their other car, a Honda, was submerged. She said: 'It may have been an act of God, but the management could have told us early that water was flowing into the carpark so we could have saved both cars.' Analyst Norman Yap, 32, found that the flooding had cut off power to his block and the lifts. He had to walk up five floors to his unit. He said: 'It has been two days now, and no one has told us if any preventive measures are being taken. This may be a rare event, but the infrastructure should be in place to handle it.' Mr Liang said: 'I was concerned about casualties in the flood, so perhaps the Government can relook the drainage system.' The Government has since said that plans to widen and deepen drainage networks in the area are being speeded up. 'I understand that this is a very unexpected event. The water just came rushing in, so what can you do?' Mr Liang added. Link on EDMW http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthre...4253&page=8
  4. Just to cut short my story, i bought my Toyota Axio from karkunsl auto. What we agreed on is that he will give me a Pioneer DVD player and 3M car mat as part of the free accessories. All this details were written in the accessory list. As it was my 1st time buying a car, i am not sure of alot of things. End up on the day of my car collection, i noticed that my DVD player is a 2-DIN one, instead of the pioneer player that he promised. only normal car mat was given to me also. when i ask the boss, he just say he did not sign the accessories sheet. I believe that trader should have the basic honesty of trading, even though buyer is new. I just hope that anyone who sees this thread, even if you decide to buy from them, just make sure all documents are properly signed by the COMPANY
  5. Hi dear bros and sis, A dear friend of mine received a payment in form of company cheque issued by a small company after he rendered services to company. The cheque bounced due to lack of funds and now my friend is trying to get payment from the company but company doesn't act on it. He asked me to inquire as he has no account here to post. Questions are: 1. If company is not able to pay cash against the bounced cheque, what are the options for my friend. 2. Can my friend take any legal action against the company? How to go about it? 3. Any other suggestions. Thanks.
  6. seems like another Huang Na case. their funeral in China is more X than Singapore. Almost 3 times more. I suppose they took Business or First Class. If not, why so X for a single person? ====================== http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...48.html?vgnmr=1 THE husband and teenage son of a Chinese woman killed in a traffic accident two years ago has sued the bus driver and bus company for compensation. Mr Luo Zhiqiang, 46, and his son, Kaipeng, 15, who are both in China, are seeking more than $250,000. The case was heard in the High Court on Monday. Lawyers for both sides will make closing arguments at a later date. However, the current trial deals only with the issue of liability; the payout sum will be determined at a separate hearing. Madam Wang Ruiyun, 44, was in Singapore as a 'study mama' to put her son, then 13, through primary school here. She worked as a machine operator with a bakery, but according to court papers in the lawsuit, she held part-time jobs as a cleaner, gave home tuition and distributed flyers. On the night of Sept 11, 2007, she was crossing a traffic junction at Rochor Road when she was hit by a Malayian-registered bus driven by Mr Lai Fook Siang. Pinned under the bus, she was dragged for 9.3m and died on the spot. Mr Lai, then 41, a Malaysian, was jailed three weeks in December 2007 after pleading guilty to causing death by negligence. He was also banned from driving for five years. Last October, Mr Luo and Kaipeng filed a suit against Mr Lai and Handal Indah, the Malaysian company that owns the bus, claiming various types of damages. In their lawsuit, they said they have lost a means of support with her death. Madam Wang, who earned just under $1,500 a month from her bakery job and $800 from part-time jobs, was supporting her son and partially supporting her husband. Their claims also include $5,888 for a funeral in Singapore, $15,170.69 for a funeral in China, $2,583.42 in airfare for Mr Luo to bring back her ashes to China, and $3,230 in airfare for the boy to attend her China funeral. The teenager is also claiming for psychiatric injuries suffered as a result of what happened to his mother. Their lawyer, Mr M. Nagarajah, contended in his opening statement that Mr Lai is wholly liable for the accident as Madam Wang was crossing the road lawfully. The defendants asserted that the accident was partly caused by Madam Wang's negligence while crossing the road. They argued that she failed to keep a proper lookout and walked into the path of the bus, giving Mr Lai no reasonable opportunity to avoid the accident.

  8. If you have 2 job offers to consider, and have to decide really fast, which are you likely to choose? Motivation for job change not so important at this point, just evaluation the pros and cons. Big Company - considered a demotion compared to current job. But pays better and more staff benefits. Joining this company adds yet another brand name (very well know MNC) to the resume. Small Company - a huge promotion and senior position, pays slighty better than current, but still lower then Big Company. Lots of learning opportunities, but most importantly, very nice bosses.

  13. - Group recognized as having "mind-blowing" ambition - 5th largest automotive company behind Toyota, GM, Ford and Audi-VW - Offering well-designed cars of great quality with longer warranties than other manufacturers in the market (SEOUL) November 18, 2008 -- The UK's oldest motoring magazine, Autocar, has named Hyundai-Kia as its Car Company of the Year at its annual award ceremony in Westminster London, England. The annual Autocar awards event is widely considered Europe's most prestigious industry accolades ceremony and is where the European Car of the Year Award winner is announced. Citing the Korean giant's "mind-blowing" ambition, editor Chas Hallet presented the title to Mr. Nam-Yong Kim, President of Hyundai-Kia's European Research and Development Centre in Germany. Hallett commented, "When the irrepressible Hyundai-Kia group started talking, just a few years ago, about wanting to become the world's fifth largest car company behind Toyota, GM, Ford and Audi-VW, many of us were sceptical. "Then the Korean group got serious. They hatched a plan to assemble a European design and engineering team to conceive a range of models for Europe. Boldly, they challenged the VW Golf and Ford Focus head on, building cars that looked as good and worked as well - and offering them with a far longer warranty, just for good measure. "They began to acquire a reputation as the Eastern marques that would bring forth bold design concepts, much as Citroen has been doing in Europe, and they built separate factories for Hyundai and Kia in lower-cost Eastern Europe, servicing both operations from handily placed engine and gearbox plants," he added. The product of a merger in 1998, Hyundai-Kia currently dominate the Korean domestic car market with an 80 per cent share and this year became the world's fifth largest car-maker, according to Automotive News in the US. With plants in North America, China, Europe and other locations including Russia, the Middle East and South East Asia, Hyundai-Kia have climbed into the top ranks of the world's biggest car companies in less than 50 years. Both companies began making automobiles in the 1960s and didn't start exporting their products until the 1980s. Kia currently builds its cee'd family and Sportage SUV models at its state-of-the-art factory in Zilina in the Slovak Republic and construction of a plant in Georgia, US is nearing completion. President Nam-Yong Kim commented, "This recognition of the efforts of everyone within Hyundai and Kia is a great honour, coming from such a renowned publication as Autocar. This is a significant recognition of the determination of our Chairman, Mr. Mong-Koo Chung and all of our people to firmly put the Korean automotive industry on the global map." 16. Hi guys, Just a sharing and an enquiry. Was at Automobile Mart over the weekend to check out some resale vehicles. Spotted a new C Class and inquired about the price and trade in package. The sales rep took my details and came back with my PARF rebate. Was told by him that if i was to trade in my Mini, his exporter will change 2% of the PARF rebate value. This is the first time i heard of this and so my question is: is this a market trick or is this a norm?
  17. My insurance company can't seems to tell me in detail how they arrive at that value. Only say will check with independent dealers. I recently sold me car for 134k as a direct seller on sgcarmart, all the car dealers i check with only willing to take in ranges from 105 to 115k. I would say fair market value is slightly above 130k conservatively. I told them my definition of market value is "the amount it will cost to replace a similar model and brand of about the same age with same warranty clause with manufacturer" They disagree and insist its the value given by dealers, but only will say it over the phone and not in writing. ANyone got expereicne how much they pay in the event of stolen vehicle or total lost?

  19. I was watching <前线追踪> on channel 8 a moment ago. Many companies allow their drivers to drive their lorry home after work. It seems that many drivers are using their company lorries as 霸王车 to ferry passengers illegally. One loadful of passengers could easily fetch $50-S100 and they could run a few such trips each night. Good money, isn't it?

  21. Home > Breaking News > Courts and Crime > Story Sep 8, 2008 Man sues company over jail time By Selina Lum A SINGAPORE businessman jailed six months in Indonesia for embezzlement has gone to the High Court here to get more than $2 million in compensation from the company that sent him to work there. Mr Leslie Ang Kok Wee, 38, was appointed by steel cylinder manufacturer Capitol Gravure Industries as a 'representative' tasked with safeguarding its interest in an Indonesian subsidiary. He described himself in court on Monday as a 'debt recoverer', appointed in July 2002 by the company as a commissioner of its subsidiary in Indonesia. While there in 2006, he was arrested and sentenced to two years and eight months' jail on two charges of siphoning $70,000 from the company. He was acquitted on appeal, but had, by then, spent six months behind bars. He claimed that he had to sell an apartment and his two cars here to raise $380,000 in funds for his defence. Now, he wants Capitol Gravure Industries to pay him $1.98 million in losses he suffered as a result of his imprisonment, as well as US$41,000 in legal fees. Mr Ang, who has a law degree and a masters degree in banking and finance, contends that the company had agreed to fully indemnify him for damages, costs and expenses incurred during his stint.
