  4. During the recent Tokyo Auto Salon, Toyota showcased several of their models which were developed together with Gazoo Racing. Two of the vehicles were the GRMN Yaris and the GRMN iQ and both cars were forced induced. Many in the auto industry believed that Toyota is taking a giant leap into small-sized forced induced engines for their future cars. In recent years, Toyota has focused much of its engineering development in hybrid vehicles while many of its competitors are instead focusing on downsized, direct injection turbo engines (for e.g. Hyundai). Turbo engines may not offer the excellent urban fuel economy that hybrids offer. What they do offer is performance that buyers typically want and also better highway mileage. Plus, they are much cheaper to build compared to those complex hybrids. Toyota is lagging behind in next-generation direct fuel injection technology that offers more efficient ways in the mixture of air and fuel so as to provide a boost in both performance and mileage. Another key technology that Toyota is lagging behind is next-generation transmissions. Although they do have an eight-speed auto transmission in their luxury cars (e.g. Lexus LS) but many of their cars still uses a four-speed auto which many people see as an outdated item. There are rumours going around stating that the Japanese automaker has an intensive program for the development of direct fuel injection and small-sized turbocharged engines, with a possibility of them being used in the next few years. This will enable Toyota to keep up with other automakers. According to a recent report in a Japanese newspaper, the downsized direct injection turbo engine will begin to appear in domestic models first and as early as 2013. Toyota will then start to use them in emerging markets such as China. The next generation Toyota Corolla is cited to be the model that will most likely get the newly developed engine and also, there is a possibility that the Toyota Camry will feature the same engine too, without waiting for a full model change. Even though Toyota has current models which feature supercharged engines, we might see a change in this as small-sized direct injection, turbocharged engines are fast becoming the common choice for automakers today and this could further increase the competitiveness for Toyota

  7. Hi fellow MCFians, I'm looking for a white Toyota Corolla AE86 Sprinter Trueno with the same decals as featured in the Initial D movie. Car will be featured in an MTV for Borneo Motors Dinner & Dance themed Movie Extravaganza. It will be a one day photo-shoot event sometime end of this month and I doubt the car needs to be driven much. There will be some remuneration for the job. If you own or know someone who owns the the above mentioned car, kindly give me a call/sms @ 91468636.

  10. I'm intending to get a 2nd hand toyota corolla axio cng model. Anybody owns that car can provide some feedback about the reliability? I heard from my mechanic that a lot of ppl who converted cng had problems 2 years later like stalled engine and dunno what then in the end change back. Is that just because they converted at some alon kuku place or is it just something that happens because cng itself got inherent problems? (i'm guessing the corolla axio model is factory fitted and not converted?) CNG model quite a bit cheaper.... :)
  11. hi all, i am considering getting a new corolla altis, but not sure if this is the good time to get this 'old' model, as read somewhere in this forum that new replacement model coming out next year. any suggestions? thank you.

  14. After a 10 month long investigation the US Transport Secretary announced that Toyota vehicles are safe to drive. This statement basically clears Toyota of the unintended acceleration claims that caused cars like the USDM Camry and the Corolla to accelerate out of control. This was something I seem to have known for awhile now as I haven't heard anyone in this region that faced this problem. Mr Ray LaHood, Transport Secretary added that the lengthy investigation found no electronic cause or faults that could cause certain Toyota vehicles to suffer from unintended acceleration. It could be down to car mats getting stuck under the accelerator pedal or human error instead of supposed faults to the car's Drive-by-wire accelerator setup. Maybe Americans wear size 12 shoes. Whatever the reason, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is still considering new regulation to improve safety on new cars. These regulation additions may require manufacturers to fit brake override systems, keyless ignition as standard and car data recorders (like those on airplanes). In short, more gadgets in our cars and more cost passed down to us. If this happens, we know who to blame for our cars getting more and more complicated
  15. Hi Bros, I have a 10yr old Corolla (model ZZE121R) that has a knocking sound when turning + acceleration. By right it's the CV Joints. But when I checked with the stockists, (Ric Tat / Fong Tat), I understood that this car doesn't have CV Joints sold separately. It's a complete set with the Drive Shaft. Ok but the main problem is that they no longer carry this stock because they said lesser ppl are asking for this already. Does anyone knows how to go about replacing this part? Also, I'm looking for the "door stay" (small mechanism that acts like a absorber to prevent the door from swinging out). Can't find this part from the above 2 shops. But Ric Tat is ordering this in, in about 1-2 mths lead time.
  16. Guess which car is preferred?
  17. Borneo Motors (Singapore) Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Inchcape Motors Pte Ltd, recently launched the New 2011 Corolla Altis 1.6-Litre with Dual VVT-i. With over 37 million units sold in 143 countries, the world's No. 1 has just got better with enhanced performance, better fuel efficiency and a new bold and stylish look. Together with improved levels of cabin comfort , quietness and engineered with Toyota's DNA of quality, durability and reliability, the new Corolla Altis promises a superior driving experience on the road. With that being said, the writers at sgCarMart could not resist the temptation of trying out the latest Toyota. Truth be told, it looks the same throughout, given the fact that changes were subtle. But it gives a totally different feel. It's more torquey and powerful than its specs suggest. Design The new Corolla Altis continually strives to be the leading sedan even after being one of the top-notch selling vehicles after 10 generations. Refined from inside out, the world's best selling car also comes with bolder and sharper looks. Featuring a new dynamic front grille with double concave lines, as well as sleeker headlamps and bumpers, looking sharp is part of being the world's best. Although Toyota said that with a wider rear and sportier design, the new Corolla Altis is designed to express a dynamic and sporty feel. But we feel it's more of the elegance than sporty as the Altis has a strong resemblance to its elder sibling, Camry. Refined Interior Nonetheless, the new car invites you into its bright and spacious cabin. You'll immediately appreciate its superior comfort and generous legroom, available both in front and rear seats. Convenient features are intelligently integrated into the stylish interior of the New 2011 Corolla Altis. They complement your journey by providing greater ease and functionality, all within your reach and a push of a button. 19. To lady driver of white corolla altis SFU205** You almost cause an accident today along Dunearn Road towards city. You drove recklessly across 3 lanes from the left without checking your mirrors and came into my lane. I was just cruising on lane 1 and I had to whack my brakes so hard . Immediately I blasted the horn out of you and you just carried on totally ignorant of whats happening. Pls wake up and stop being a nuisance on the road ! To all female drivers out there, its okay to be slow but pls don't be reckless. think before you make a move.
  20. It seems Indonesia and the Philippines are getting a sportier facelift for the Toyota Corolla Altis. After quietly debuting over in those countries in 2008, Toyota has now refreshed the exterior of the Altis with a new matt black lined grill/bumper arrangement, black-out lights and sportier looking alloy wheels. I suppose Toyota wants to get rid of that 'uncle' image its cars portray and maybe get the hip, youngish clientele that went for their Vios to come back for another Toyota when they get older. The fun thing about this Corolla Altis is that it now sports a power upgrade too. It now gets 120bhp and 154Nm from the 1.6liter 4cylinder engine instead of 107bhp and previously. The 2.0liter 4 cylinder also gets a boost in power; 145bhp over 135bhp. Too bad Toyota does not sell and market the 2.0liter over in Singapore and Malaysia (only a 1.8liter version above the 1.6liter version). It would be a fun car to drive, regardless of its frumpy 'unclemobile' image. Toyota credits a new induction system that allows more air into the combustion chamber which improves fuel consumption and power in the engines. The 2.0liter in the Philippines comes equipped with a CVT type transmission that comes with flappy pedals behind the steering. The 1.6liter over there comes with, get this, a 6 speed manual gearbox. Toyota is really making the Altis into a sportier creature. Sales in the Philippines begin in September of this year. And check out the fully tricked out version that was on display at the recent 2010 Indonesia International Motor Show below. Can we have these very sporty (compared to what we have) versions over here please? Source: motioncars/author's own
