I am still quite a new driver and my first ever car just broke down. I took it to a garage but it looks like to repair it could cost so much money that it's not worth it. I've had my car for 9 months only (used car). It's a Vauxhall Corsa. I live in the UK and I need my car to commute to work as the public transport is not very good where I live. I don't have a lot of money for a new car right now but I need one and I don't know much about cars but I don't want my second car to break down that soon again. Any suggestions what would be a good second car that is not too expensive and won't break down that soon? Thanks

Was queueing in SingPost (Toa Payoh Hub @ 12.00pm) and was approached by a SingPost staff extending his service. He asked 'may I help you'. I said paying for my airline tickets and he told me to use SAM machines faster as the queue was long (I am in number 12). So go over to the SAM machine and happily key in all details and then came to payment part. Pressed the NETS button and push in my cash card. Out come the cash card and on screen word, 'transaction terminated, please refer to bank'. I was then hur.... Tried again and same thing happen. Joined the queue again and was pushed back by another 8 persons.... When almost reaching my queue (second person), the lady behind the counter then shouted to all in the queue that Nets is down islandwide. Even the banks next door also closed and system down, Cash payment only, lagi tulan and walk off.... It seem that after the burning of Bukit Panjang Exchange, system seem to go down very easily. Have to rush to office and try again in the evening. Anyone know is the Nets up and running...

How Bardahl Asia Pacific do their customer service My friends are using Bardahl Oil for our engine in the past few years and this year we stopped it. Because two engines have break down with this oil, we took some old oil and new oil to do some test. And the result coming out is not good. SN 5W-40 Old oil (We save some oil before we change the oil) Kinematic Viscosity, mm2/s @ 100C : 13.9 CCS @ -30C, cP : 5390 Pour Point, C : -39 TBN, mg KOH/g : 6.94 Phosphorus content % : 0.073 SN 5W-40 New oil (We bought some new oil from store) Kinematic Viscosity, mm2/s @ 100C : 14.36 CCS @ -30C, cP : 6350 Pour Point, C : -36 TBN, mg KOH/g : 9.31 Phosphorus content % : 0.157 With all the API standard, these two oils are in spec. However, we put 4L new oil into my engine and after running 5000km my engine alarm light is on. I go check with the repair shop about it, there are 2L oil left in the engine and the oil is extremely dark and sticky with mud. Few of my friends have this issue also, two of their engine have break down with this oil. We ask the Bardahl office what happen with their oil and they keep pushing all the response away and sent us different report about their oil don’t have any problems. We know that if there is a problem with a single car, we can let it go and try to fix it. However, there are more cars having these problems in these few months. And the Bardahl office accidentally cc me this email below during the conversation. The finance or leasing companies which the cars are still registered with then proceeded to repossess the cars. Dentist Daniel Chan, 34, was among those affected. He bought a used Volkswagen Tiguan in November and collected the car on Nov 6. On Nov 15, he tried to renew road tax for the car, but could not. He contacted the Land Transport Authority, and was told that the vehicle had not been transferred to him. The car has since been repossessed, and Manhattan has closed shop. Asked why he did not buy from authorised agent Volkswagen Centre Singapore, which has a used car division, he said: "I didn't want to spend too much on a car. The (Manhattan) price was right. I did an internet search on the company and there were no bad reviews. "I've bought two used cars before, and never had a problem," he added. He bought the six-year-old car for $70,000 and paid $50,000 in cash. Volkswagen Centre Singapore said it does not have a similar car in stock currently, but estimated that one would cost around $50,000. Police said they have received "more than 20" reports from consumers regarding Manhattan Motor. "We are looking into the matter," a spokesman said. Auto Lease Pte Ltd, one of the companies that repossessed the cars sold by Manhattan Motor, had already towed back seven cars. "Four are still at large," said director Anthony Lim. Mr Lim said such cases have become "very common". "You don't need a licence to be a motor dealer," he said. "Buyers just have to be vigilant." The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) said it has received 14 complaints against Manhattan Motor since January, with 11 filed in the last two weeks. Executive Director Loy York Jiun said: "The complaints were primarily about the lack of transfer of ownership of the car to the consumer's name. "Some consumers feedback that despite having made full payment to the car dealer, their cars were repossessed as payment was not made to finance company. "Case is of the view that collection of payment by the dealer with no intention to fulfil their obligations under the contract is highly unethical and it is an unfair practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. Consumers can seek recourse under the Act." But Case noted that “options are more limited in the event where a business ceases operations”. Manhattan Motor has not been contactable. But drivers who went through their usual routine on Monday morning were met with an irresponsive ‘Start Trip’ button, although they were able to access the Taxi Share website. I have been thinking for awhile now but still don't understand how this works. I always see pple saying that when COE crash (I don't know how low is consider crash) those pple with high COE (how high is high? 90k 80k 70k?) can change car as it's more "worth" it. But then we can only get back the unused COE half of the OMV (less CEVS if applicable). am I missing something else? So if I change car after 3 yrs my depreciation will be very high like 15-20k per year? so how is it worth changing? Pls enlighten me lol...

Hi, I have a few occassions when the fan kept running after I had shut down the engine. The first time it happened, I just turned on the engine for 1 min to shift my car. When I shut it down, I can see the fan turning. I turn on and off the engine again and it was gone. The 2nd time happened when I was using the car battery (engine not on) to vacuum. After I shut everything down, the fan remained. After about 5 mins, it went off. The 3rd time happened when I shut down the engine and turned it on again after 2mins. I drove it for about 100m before shutting down. The fan remained and I had to restart the engine and shut down again. Anyone had similar experience? Is this normal? My MK6 Jetta is the non-sport version.

I like to check with you guys. Anyone experience with car broke down in multi storey car park? I don't know if tow truck is able to tow the car from the car park. My car went in workshop on and off, called tow truck before. Seems like it is going in again. As car was bought recently from used car dealer, I do not want to go any workshop first as previous workshops are their workshop. Car is able to move now but don't know when it will cease. I just like to know if it is possible to tow the car from multistory car park. Don't ask me what happen to my car, a bit sian to recite whole story.
