  1. http://www.xxxxxxx.com/articles/article.p...pageid=1&view=1 good car, but lotsa understeer from the 175 profile tyres in front (225 rears)..wasted, if only they fit wider tyres in front and narrower ones at the back...
  2. Time: 0512pm Venue: Tampines entrance to PIE towards Jurong... A Fierce looking Black Honda City was taking the right down slop bent entering PIE towards Jurong. It's raining and when City realised he was going too fast around the bent, Brakes, and City start to Drift and Wack the railings! Me and lorry was able to stop and witness the Drift! First time I see a live accident against road railings, to be honest, it was quite interesting. Glad young driver was unhurt but Fierce Black City not in so fierce already, she's hurt. Young man was facing us, compose himself and drove to the side. Am glad he is unhurt. That bent......always got accident, please my fellow MCFer's, take good care when using the bent...
  3. Pretty interesting interview and video of Japanese Drifting King Keiichi Tsushiya. Didn't realise he's actually 50 years old.
  4. Check out the real video footage of the underground drift king. This guy is skillful but crazy, and I'm glad the Japanese police took away his license when they found his video circulating on the internet.
  5. Yesterday's rain proved a blessing for those who went drifting at Gelang Patah... From SG, we one additional white S15 and a black S13 join us... One of the MR2 that was planning go had problems and pulled out before heading out from Jurong East towards Tuas Here is the aftermath of the drift, with most cars getting a good dose of mud and grim on the body... My friend Leonard from Australia just loved the "art-work" on the white S15. Some of our friends joined us for the day too and went for rides as Leonard and I gave some drift rides to our friends there. A newcomer to drifting, the white S15 did very well to pick up some basics. After that, we all went to Taman Sentosa area in JB for dinner and a cheap and good RM 8.00 car wash too.

  7. Extracted from www.mrbrown.com I took a Silver Arrow cab recently and I have to say, their new Skodas are very nice. They are way more spacious than they look from the outside and the driver who drove me told me something interesting about the cars they use. Apparently, these Skodas are 2.5 litre diesels with a Turbo engine. You heard right, Turbo. I believe they are the only cabs in town that have a turbocharger. "Once, there was this Mercedes cab at the airport, cut my lane dangerously, so I overtook him," the driver told me. "He tried to follow, and I let him. Just when he pulled up next to me, I tapped my accelerator and left him eating my dust. Hahaha!" He went on to tell me how new drivers to the Skodas tend to get caught for speeding, because the cars have so much power and are so fun to drive. "These days, when other cabs see our silver Skodas coming in their rear view mirrors, when we're on expressways, they just get out of the way, because they know our cars can run."
  8. http://newpaper.asiaone.com.sg/show/story/...,111141,00.html? The movie The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift flags off today with a showy way of taking corners. Infographics artist SIMON ANG and reporter DESMOND NG give you a peek into this style of racing DRIFTING is a harrowing experience for most drivers. To a layman, it's oversteer - when the rear of your car skids before the front when taking corners. But for some drivers, this 'road-surfing' is an art. Interest in drifting here grew after the release of the anime-inspired Initial D movie starring Taiwanese crooner Jay Chou last year. The movie showed a young man perfecting his drifting skill on winding mountain roads while delivering tofu in his father's old Toyota AE86. The Hollywood release The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift is expected to stir up more interest in this extreme motorsport. In this third instalment of The Fast And The Furious series, an American street racer flies to Tokyo to live with his father. There, he loses a drift race to a Yakuza-linked rival and plunges into the underground drift racing scene to pay off his debt. In the movie, the flashy Nissan Silvia, Nissan Fairlady and the Mazda RX-8 take corners with such finesse and style that the sexy Japanese babes prancing and preening around are but a minor distraction. Drifting has evolved into a competitive sport in Japan, the US and recently Malaysia, where drivers compete to keep their cars sideways as long as possible. In Singapore, a small but growing group of about 50 enthusiasts travels regularly to Malaysia to practise their drifting techniques. But try drifting on the roads here and you can be sure that our men in blue will be hot on your heels before you can mutter W-R-X. THRILLING BUT ILLEGAL It is an offence to drive a motor vehicle on the road recklessly or in a manner which is dangerous to the public. Offenders can be fined up to $3,000, jailed for a year, or both. Drifting has its roots in Japan where racer Keiichi Tsuchiya pioneered the technique some 20 years ago. Imperial Concepts, a garage which tunes performance and drift cars here, estimated that the number of drift-wannabes - or drifters (not to be confused with vagrants) - has grown from 20 people to about 50 this year. About 10 to 15 of them are competitive drifters and they recently took part in the D1 Grand Prix (D1 GP) drift series held for the first time in Malaysia this year. The competition is still going on. Sales manager Ray Tan said: 'Some of these drivers learnt the techniques of drifting from niche magazines and DVDs from overseas. After that, they started to practise their skills on tracks in Gelang Patah and Bandar Nusa Jaya in Johor.' Most of these drifters are male, under 35, and are students, mechanics and even hawkers. 'Drifting is the art of being able to control a car when it's supposed to be out of control. There's more skill involved compared to drag racing where whoever has the most money to get the most powerful car wins,' said Mr Tan. In drag racing, cars try to complete a fairly short and straight course in the shortest time. Drift competitions are judged based on the angle, speed and show factor. The angle is the angle of a car in a drift - the bigger, the better. Speed refers to the speed on entering a turn, the speed through a turn and the speed exiting the turn. Again, the faster, the better. It takes a balance of braking and throttle control to achieve the perfect 'drift'. NORMAL CARS ARE OUT The heavily-modified Silvia shown here was used in the recent D1 GP series in Malaysia. About $80,000 was spent modifying the four-year-old car for drifting. Drift cars usually need to be rear-wheel-drive types, so you can forget about trying this stunt in your Vios and Swifts. Popular choices are the Silvia, Toyota AE86, Mazda RX-8 and RX-7. IT account manager Colin Teo, 30, drifts with his flaming red 2002 Silvia in Malaysia at least three times a month. He paid about $85,000 for his car last year and spent $8,000 more modifying it. He said: 'I like it because a lot depends on the driver's technical skill compared to just the pure, raw power of the car. It's a spectator sport because it's more skill than anything else. 'When you compare drifting to drag racing, it's like comparing speed skating to figure skating.'

  11. Hey people... here I've got some drifting techniques to share... pls look through.. RACE DRIFT This is performed at race speeds, when entering a high speed corner a driver lifts his foot off the throttle to induce a mild over steer and then balances the drift through steering and throttle motions. (note: the car that is being used for this style of drift should be a neutral balanced car therefore the over steer will induce itself, if the car plows through any turn this technique will not work). BRAKING DRIFT This is performed by trail braking into a corner, then loss of grip is obtained and then balance through steering and throttle motions. (note: this is mainly for medium to low speed corners). FAINT DRIFT This is performed by rocking the car towards the outside of a turn and then using the rebound of grip to throw the car into the normal cornering direction. (note this is heavy rally racing technique used to change vehicle attitudes during cornering, mainly tight mountain corners.) CLUTCH KICK This is performed by depressing the clutch pedal on approach or during a mild drift to give a sudden jolt through the driveline to upset rear traction. SHIFT LOCK This is performed by letting the revs drop on downshift into a corner and then releasing the clutch to put stress on the driveline to slow the rear tires inducing over steer. (this is like pulling the E-brake through a turn - note this should be performed in the wet to minimize damage to the driveline etc.) EMERGENCY BRAKE DRIFT This technique is very basic, pull the E-Brake or (side brake) to induce rear traction loss and balance drift through steering and throttle play. (note: this can also be used to correct errors or fine tune drift angles.) DIRT DROP DRIFT This is performed by dropping the rear tires off the road into the dirt to maintain or gain drift angle without losing power or speed and to set up for the next turn. (note this technique is very useful for low horsepower cars.) JUMP DRIFT In this technique the rear tire on the inside of a turn or apex is bounced over a curb to lose traction resulting in over steer. LONG SLIDE DRIFT This is done by pulling the E-brake through a strait to start a high angel drift and to hold this to set up for the turn ahead. (note: this can only be done at high speed.) SWAYING BRAKE DRIFT This is a slow side-to-side faint like drift where the rear end sways back and forth down a strait. FF DRIFT (Front Wheel Drive Drift) The E-brake as well as steering and braking techniques must be used to balance the car through a corner. (note: the E-brake is the main technique used to balance the drift.) POWER OVER This performed when entering a corner and using full throttle to produce heavy oversteer (tail slide) through the turn. (note: needs horsepower to make this happen.)
  12. Definitely a manual version! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wL64OH_VBqE&search=mazda%206
  13. Yesterday was loads of fun with the couple of us having made it there. Using (stealing) the following preview photos, here is my take on the track:- The track goes in a clockwise manner (some went counter). The first bend was an upslope right-hand, requiring some decent power to bring the car up. Slightly treacherous right now as the tip of the corner goes off into mud (somewhat like Port Dickson), so care was taken during the initial climb and drift initiation. The continuation was a downslope drift that will take you into a left hand drift, followed by a small right hand hand upslope to the area with the black barrels. Continuing after the barrels is still the right hander that will take you into a sharp downslope left hand drift (careful of the wall) The wall is up already and infront of the tree in the middle of the photo. Careful not to hit it during that left hander Then it's followed by a medium length right hander to bring you back to the main straight to the hill climb shown in the first pic. Overall, it's a good track to learn on, but it requires more run off areas without so much mud.
