  1. I would gladly appreciate if there are any Swift technical experts could help me in this.My ride is Swift '07 1.3MT. Scenario: Was travelling home as per normal at SLE.approaching Mandai exit, slowed down and dropped gear from 5 to 4.While the clutch is still depressed and slight braking and maneuvering the corner, out of sudden, the engine totally dies off! No power,no lights,no aircon and even worse, power steering is also lost! For a full 3 seconds,i was not in control of the car. Then out of a sudden, everything went back on and the engine restarted by itself!I thank God that my family is safe and nothing happened while i'm taking the corner. The question is,what causes it to happen?Battery is fine(less than 6 mths old),no professional ICE(juz radio HU),normal Pivot (blue) VS with grounding. No hardcore modifications done, only got SIMOTA carbon air filter. Can any bros here help me on this?I heard from a friend that there are Swift owners who experienced the same problem with me.What is the exact problem?I think i need to rectify it ASAP coz i always go up north and don't want anything serious to happen(touch wood!) Many thanks in advance
  2. Hi people, I drive a 2.3l Cefiro (aound 4 years old 35000km) and I am noticed since yesterday that when I start my car after like 8+ hours of inactivity, the engine sounds very different, much louder wheezing sound. It goes off after 3-5 mins. Thinking of sending it down for checks on monday but just checking here if there is a simple fix that I can do. I have checked the engine oil and it looks ok. anything else I should check? I really don't know anything about cars. thanks for any help

  4. Having this problem with my ride that is less than 200KM mileage. While doing gentle braking when approaching a traffic light, can feel the steering wheel vibrate. This happens no matter what speed I travel at. From 60-100km/hr still the same thing. However, when i press the brake harder, the vibration will disappear immediately. Suspect it is warped brake rotors. Can anyone enlighten? Thx!
  5. Just got back from driving amidst the heavy downpour and saw one accident... Part ranting and part sharing my views. The number 1 reason for having more accidents on the road during rainy days is... 1) Having crappy tires... It never ceased to amaze me why people are still underestimating the need to have good tires... the only contact points you have between your $30k to $100k car and the road, yet a lot of people look for "cheap and good" tires or quiet tires, thinking that they don't speed or race hence comfort is more important or price is more important. Only some ask for good dry and wet grip as first priority. Having a performance or UP tires does not mean you are a racer or likes to speed... it just means you have a good head and knows what is important. Travelling at 40kph with crap tires is still asking for it. In my book, there is no such thing as "cheap and good" tires... It may be cheap and good up to 1000km, 5000km, etc., but never the life of driving it. Another aspect of tires is trying to see how long they can last? Seriously folks... you should change every 20,000km or so. The idea is not to stretch you dollars, but to stretch your lives. How many times do people say they want to modify their cars to go faster vs. to stop better or have better grip? The number 2 reason is... 2) The Keep Left Unless Overtaking sign is not in neon... but then again, most people do not understand English anyway. The scenario... car driving at 90 on Lane 1... sudden downpour... because it is raining and driver learn from his/her driving theory/crap instructors/crap driver friends to drive carefully when the road is wet, he/she continues on Lane 1 but dropped to 60 or 70kph... since he/she is within speed limit he/she continues on Lane 1 (another other excuse is that Lane 2 also crowded)... car behind with the crappy tires didn't realise till too late (oblivious? tires too quiet?)... accident... If you want to drop to 60 or 70kph when it rains, signal and join the queue in Lane 2! The 3 most common reason is... 3) Cab drivers with crappy tires and dropping to 60 on Lane 1.
  6. This topic was 'inspired' by the earlier thread in the General Car Discussion on "cabin light on while driving." I have have been wondering why the stewardess and steward keep asking the passenger to pull up their window blind in the plane during take off and landing during day time and night time. Anyone got an answer?
  7. COE prices up sharply after news of lower quota source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../409826/1/.html COE prices up sharply after news of lower quota SINGAPORE: Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices have gone up across the board in the latest bidding exercise. At the close on Wednesday, the premium for big cars jumped S$4,200 to S$4,889, while that for small cars rose S$3,440 to S$4,460. In the Open Category, where the COEs are usually used to buy cars, the premium went up S$2,889 to S$5,889. For goods vehicles and buses, the COE price was S$1,600 higher at S$4,190. The premium for motorcycles meanwhile rose S$100 to S$801. Car dealers said the jump in COE premiums was due mainly to the government's recent announcement that it will cut the COE quota this year by 24 per cent. However, observers said the industry is struggling to maintain itself during the economic downturn. Vincent Ng, product manager of Honda agent Kah Motor, said: "Most of us are selling our cars at little profit or no profit. I would even speculate that some of us are making some sales at a loss. So in the short term, it's not so good." Car dealers said they expect the COE premiums to hover around the current levels, adding that it is unlikely there will be sharp spikes despite the impending cut in COE quota. What a "open eyes BIG BIG tell a lie" what a blatant lie...saw him being interviewed last night in the Ch8 10pm news, he was smiling wryly when he gave that statement. May I suggest KH to apply non-profit organisation license or should someone call in IRAS to check their accounts?
  8. As per above topic, anyone knows if it's open during CNY until Tuesday 27th Jan?
  9. I am driving a 2 year-old Mazda 3SP. Just changed to a new battery 2 months ago. Changed to open pod, piggyback, CAI ... Last week, during traffic light stops, the car suddenly died on me. Aircon and audio were still on, and working fine. In a spate of 30 mins, I had to restart the car for at least 4 times. Went to mechanic to check, and he suspected is the valve in the open pod giving the problem. Nevertheless, he said my car changed this and that, here and there, hence he cant confirm the problem. Any bro face the same problem before ? Pls help. Dont want to car to stall suddenly.
  10. Wishing all bros a prosperous new year, My car is unable to start and the dealer workshop will only open on Fri. The problem just happened without any symptom. It is not likely a battery problem as previously I am able to start the engine with a single crank. The strange part is that the remote alarm unlocking mechanism has also failed. Any advice on how to resolve this problem or at least last to Friday.
  11. Guys, I think it is important to drive safely and not recklessly though you are really rushing for time cos the importance of your family members with you in the car is more important than you really late for your New Year Visiting. I have seen many drivers still drive like rushing to work cutting lanes after lanes, there are many new drivers on the road as well during this period so we have to spare a thought for them too. There are many accidents during this period and I saw 3-4 vehicles involved in the accident along PIE towards Changi near the Steven Road exit, guess you also need the car for your New Year Visiting and it is avoidable if everyone practise safe and patient driving. It is Better to be Late than Never Reached.
  12. I am planning to drive to Malacca during Chinese new year holiday for a 2 day trip. Plan to stay at Mahkota because it's location and most important their two bedroom apartment can accommandate a family of 5 (with one kid). First time staying in Malacca, so I have some queries hope guys here can help: 1 will shops and restaraunt, tourist attraction closed like in SG during chinese new year? 2 will the night market (leart called Jonker walker from this forum) be openned during the period? 3: Can we walk to night market from Mahkota hotel? 4: How is the swimming pool in Mahkota? is it big, good for kids? 5: i am still gathering other info like where to eat, to visit, where to shop etc, hope to hear some suggestions too. Thanks all
  13. Hi all, I know there are some threads about this. but i cant find them any recommendation on the hotels or resorts to stay in Batam? which travel agent to book?
  14. Which car would you rather be in if both the car crash head on? The big boxy and heavy Volvo 940 Estate famous for its safety during its days or a much newer Renault Modus with 5 EuroNCap Star ? Will the 5 star safety Renault Modus mean anything when crashing with a car almost twice its size and weight? watch video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3ygYUYia9I&feature=related
  15. Would it be unreasonable to approach a 2nd hand car dealer to offer to buy a used car, let's say a 6 mth to 1 year old Merc, at "a little above" paper value? I wonder if they will entertain me or redicule/spit at me with disgust.
  16. Guys, I have booked for a trip before I got the notification for the alert period which is gonna be next mth. Should I just go ahead with the trip upon informing my buddies? Any complications that might arise?
  17. Spending on defence is always a dead-weight loss, with no contribution to our GDP ... why spend so much on these planes when the economy is already in recession ??? http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../387475/1/.html

  20. from TV, i can't see any single podium girls standing beside the drivers during the trophy ceremony (is this normal)...or is it because sinhell girls cmi on the screen and on the global map, can only see them lining up at the hallway, leading to the rooms where the drivers need to weigh after the race, only cheer and clap hands when the drivers emerged from the room...poor thing...to have a shot at the fame and ends up in the hallway...
  21. Road Closures A series of road closures will affect the Marina Centre area from 20 Sep to 2 Oct 2008. Pre-Race: 20 to 22 Sep - 3 roads leading to St Andrew
  22. Was there this afternoon, dunno where all the people come from, even more than opening day itself, must be many tuang office, anyway, I was right about the pathetic parking at Autobacs, not enough car parks many park along the roads and being so near TP HQ, you can only guess what happened, many donations to the Govt made today. So all those going tomorrow, or Sunday please do not park along the roads, there will be several officers all out at once to book parking offenders. Not worth it really. Those MCFers who got booked today please help bounce this thread.
