  1. Apparently the insurer don't want to pay since it is a "collision" and not an "accident" If you put aside the anti-tiong sentiment for a while, what do you think of insurer's actions? If they get their way, will it set a unhealthy precedence for future accidents? Or maybe they know the real reason why Ma Chi cheong the red light but cannot say.
  2. I have no idea if I should be shocked or surprised. Just last night I was watching the 1986 hit comedy 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off', and boy oh boy watching the ultra rare and exotic Ferrari 250GT California in Full-HD on Blu-Ray is the closest I could come across to an actual production model, until I visit the Ferrari museum at Maranello at least. So you must wonder the 'deja vu' surprise, I got when I came across news that the car I was drooling over last night is getting auctioned. One of just 37 ever made, a highly desirable and sexy Ferrari 250 California Spyder is expected to fetch as much as US$9 (S$ 11.2) million at an upcoming auction at Pebble Beach. Well that is the estimated amount by RM Auctions for this 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder. The car in question is built with chassis number 3119 in traditional Ferrari Rosso Corsa body colours with tan leather. It was certified as authentic by the Ferrari Classiche division and went on to take top honours in its class at Pebble Beach back in 1990. A total of just 100 California's were made between 1958 and 1963 (with just 37 of them in short-wheelbase variant). This particular car was owned by a chap in Belgium before being sold off in 1970 to an American owner. To quote the great Ferris Bueller himself, "If you have the means I highly recommend picking one up". Picture source: Carbuzz.com

  5. Hamilton got off with a perfect start and led the majority of the Hungarian Grand Prix, though subsequently found himself fighting till the finish with a two-stop strategy and defending his position from Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen later in the closing stages. Hamilton held off the Lotus duo and won the race by just one second from Raikkonen with team mate Grosjean completing the podium. Raikkonen had been sixth in the opening stint, who then jumped Fernando Alonso in the first stops. His strong stint on a long due soft tyres in his second stint allowed him to leap from fifth to second, nearly colliding with team-mate Grosjean as he emerged from his third and final stop. Grosjean held his third placing ahead of Sebastian Vettel
  6. Ma Chi not drunk The Ferrari driver who allegedly sped past a red light and rammed into a taxi at a junction in Bugis was not drunk at the time of the horrific crash. The accident, which happened in the early hours of 12 May, left three people

    Steve McQueen

Legendary Hollywood actor, Steve McQueen is a man who is genuinely passionate about cars and obviously he loves fast cars. Most would know or remember the Ford Mustang that he drove in the movie Bullitt and it is one of the best car chase scene ever in movie history. Even though the Mustang was a brilliant piece of machine, McQueen prefers something a little different. The car that you see here is a Ferrari 275 GTB4 and it was once owned by Steve McQueen himself. It was said that McQueen took delivery of the car in San Francisco while filming the movie Bullitt. The current owner of the Ferrari 275 GTB4 has brought the car to Ferrari Classiche to have it restored to its original state in order to receive an authenticity certification. Ferrari Classiche is based at Maranello and they authenticate and certify classic Ferraris as original which would be a huge advantage to owners when they want to sell their cars. But for their cars to be certified as a Ferrari original, the car must be in the original condition (same specifications as when it left the factory) and with matching numbers and not subject to any modification. When the car arrived at Ferrari Classiche, there was one problem. One of the previous owners has converted the coupe to a convertible during the 1980s. This was done probably because the owner at that time wanted a 275 GTB4 NART which is the Spyder (or convertible) version of the 275 GTB4. He probably could not find or afford one as only 10 units of the Spyder variant were ever made by Sergio Scaglietti and Enzo Ferrari. Since Ferrari Classiche could not authenticate and certify a fake 275 GTB4 Spyder, the current owner had to allow them to turn his pretend Spyder back to an original coupe by reproducing the roof and other parts of the car with hand beaten steel panels. And this will restore the car back to its original condition and granting it Ferrari Classiche status. Classic Ferraris are becoming excellent long term investments. Recently, a Ferrari 250 GTO which was built for Stirling Moss sold for US$35 million in a private sale. The 275 GTB4 might not fetch a huge price but at least the owner made a good decision to restore it back to the original state. Plus, with the car
  10. For those automotive enthusiasts who are into the sport of golf, this piece of news is for you. Ferrari has teamed up with Cobra Puma Golf to add the iconic prancing horse on a line of golfing equipment. This long-term partnership between Cobra Puma Golf and Ferrari SpA is bringing a new type of product to the industry that is both beautiful and technically advanced, truly merging both art and science. The Ferrari Golf Collection was developed through a collaboration with Cobra Puma Golf and Ferrari SpA. It brings the most innovative technologies from Cobra Puma Golf engineers and Ferrari aerodynamic engineers together with premium materials, packaging and unquestionable style. "We saw an opportunity in the current marketplace to bring the Ferrari Golf Collection to life," commented Bob Philion, President of Cobra Puma Golf. "It's a high end collection the golf industry has never seen before; bringing together the best of Cobra Puma Golf enriched with the expertise of Ferrari in a superior product offering of equipment, apparel, accessories and footwear. We are thrilled to be working with Ferrari SpA on this long-term collection to bring a new, premium golf product line up to consumers." The culmination of the Ferrari Golf Collection lies in the Cobra Ferrari Driver, a true work of art designed and developed by Cobra Puma Golf equipment engineers with Ferrari SpA aerodynamics engineers. The result is a super premium, aerodynamic, multi-material design that delivers fast club head speed and exceptional distance. After studying the Cobra ZL Encore Driver, Ferrari aerodynamics engineers suggested shape changes that would reduce drag coefficient, making the club swing easily through the air and resulting in more club head speed. These changes included new radii along the face perimeter, smoothing of the bottom sole surfaces and raising the trailing edge of the driver higher off the ground (to delay separation). These new designs along with multi-material construction reduce drag, increase club head speed and maximize distance. The attention to detail, performance and style did not end with the driver. The Ferrari Golf Collection apparel, footwear and accessories fuse form, function and fashion in a collection of impeccable design. The accessory range features premium visors, belts, gloves, umbrellas and bags. A selection of the accessories, such as the Ferrari Golf Luxury Bag and Ferrari Golf Luxury Duffel, are crafted in Poltrana Frau Leather, the same leather used in Ferrari GT Cars. For this season, the Ferrari Golf Collection apparel features polos, knits, jackets and pants. The Ferrari Golf Tech Polo uses state of the art fabrics and technology such as Coolmax All Season, UPF 50+ and moisture wicking for a shirt that keeps you comfortable and stylish in any weather. The Ferrari On Course Jacket has a striking style with contrast red stitching on black fabric, this design was based off of the interior of a Ferrari car. The jacket is also breathable, wind resistant and water resistant for extreme comfort throughout course of play. The Ferrari Golf Leather Shoe is handcrafted in Italy with genuine full grain leather upper and sole. Available in white or black, the shoe is the epitome of fashion and technology. Utilizing Puma's S2Quill technology, the shoe provides superior traction, stability and support while on course. The delicate stitching in the shoe is designed after the interior of a Ferrari car and the sleek silhouette is an understated, luxury look that will have heads turning all over the golf course. The collection can be found in select golf retailers, select Ferrari Stores and select high end retailers starting in July, 2012. Photo credit: Motor Authority
  11. [extract] Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar has been fired. This comes as no surprise as he was recently suspended from work in May due to a complaint made against him by the company's ultimate holding company, DRB-HICOM Berhad. The complaint was basically for his misuse of the bleeding company funds, i.e flying around in a private jet and renovating his house in England. This also comes as no surprise as Group Lotus has a new owner
  12. Hospital/ Insurers not recovering compensatory costs from Ma Chi's (>S$3.4M) estate would be admission that crime in Singapore does indeed 'pay'. PS: written from layman POV cos I'm not a lawyer. Legally speaking, should Ma Chi's family really receive S$1.82Million compensation for causing fatal 'accident'? In regard of 'PRC Ferrari driver runs red light, involving taxi and motorcycle in fatal accident' [STOMP, 13May2012], it has been suggested if not proven that at the point of impact, the Ferrari driven (and owned) by Ma Chi was traveling at 140 (+/-30)kph ('Ferrari crash: Physics teacher calculates that sports car was speeding at 140km/h' [STOMP, 17May2012])/ [YouTube: ], far in excess of the 50kph speed limit typical of Singapore city roads, this in itself constitutes a serious and inexcusable traffic offense even if in defense, Ma Chi's legal team might deflect blame on the traffic lighting system for his fatal error in judgement. It could well also be argued that but for Ma Chi racing his Ferrari at such obscene speed and ignoring the traffic signals, the said accident would not have occurred. So was it indeed an 'accident' or an act of 'terrorism'- the act being actually an act of road terrorism. The reason for the necessity to use this odd classification of 'road terrorism' is due to the fact that from my perusal of the private car insurance [website] 'terms and conditions' [pdf] of NTUC income motor insurance (as an example of a typical car insurance company/contract), with " Page 4: GENERAL EXCLUSIONS> 1. Driving and Use> This Policy does not insure any accident, loss, damage, injury or liability where any motor vehicle in respect of which this Policy provides indemnity is:... © being driven by anyone whilst under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs or medication" being the nearest in application to the fatal 12May2012 Bugis junction accident- which in fact fails to excuse the insurer from compensating Ma Chi's estate S$1.8M goven that 'Police: PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi (马驰) did not consume alcohol before accident' [TT, 17May2012]. According to 'State media defends PRC Ferrari driver Ma Chi: He is not a ‘heavy drinker’ and has applied for Singapore PR' [TT, 14May2012], “Mr Ma’s wife,.. told Wanbao .. the Ferrari was a $1.8 million limited edition car that he bought for his 30th birthday last year”- the compensation for death to the driver by NTUCincome is $20k, would the insurer be liable to compensate Ma Chi's estate $1.82M. That said, the 3rd party victims including the families of deceased taxi driver Mr Cheng Teck Hock and his passenger remain entitled to compensation according to NTUC of up to $5M in total. Ma Chi's passenger, "(Ms Wu Wei Wei) was seriously injured in the three-vehicle crash that has claimed the lives of three people so far" ('Ferrari Crash - Mystery Woman is pte "student" who moonlights at naughty KTV' [A1news, 16May2012]), again presupposing an insurer such as NTUC, would only be responsible for "SCOPE OF COVER> SECTION III – MEDICAL EXPENSES> We will pay you, .. or passenger up to S$300 for reasonable medical expenses incurred by each person who is injured whilst in the Insured Vehicle...", begs the question of who would eventually bear the costs of her hospitalization. It is thus my suggestion that perhaps either the insurer of the Ferrari note the loopholes in its insurance policy and if Ma Chi's family presses for compensation regarding damages to the Ferrari, press counter charges against Ma Chi for 'road terrorism' (flagrant disregard for the law) to dissociate itself from 1st party compensation and to reclaim compensation to 3rd parties such as the taxi driver and his passenger and other victims in the accident. “Mr Ma’s wife, known only as Madam He, told Wanbao that her husband had bought a $3 million condominium in the East Coast and a $400,000 BMW. The Ferrari was a $1.8 million limited edition car that he bought for his 30th birthday last year.” [TT, 14May2012]. The public hospital to which Ms Wu is warded should also seek guarantees of payment from Ma Chi's estate for her payment of her medical bills given that an insurer such as NTUC income might only wish to cover $300 of these expenses- using his the illegality of his driving speed and methods as reason to cover for the hospitalization cost incurred in treating his passenger. It would be travesty for Ma Chi's family to receive S$1.82M consequent to the accident as motor insurance should only cover genuine, unintentional 'accidents' and not Ma Chi's form of road terrorism (street racing and other criminal activities) for which all liabilities of the insurer ought be reclaimed from Ma Chi's estate- failure to do so would simple add to the insurers losses and predictably, an increase in premium for all other bonafide members since motor insurance is compulsory in Singapore. Ma Chi's disregarded the traffic rules and laws of Singapore and treated it like a gangland paradise. For this, the Ma Chi's estate (BOTH China AND Singapore) must IMMEDIATELY be frozen in lieu of claims by either the insurer or the public hospitals for the damage that Ma Chi caused in flagrant disregard of the law. Singapore's 'first class political leadership and judiciary', please do something about this, far too many times have foreigners on criminal charges gotten away scot free 'Kiwi bail jumper won’t return to S’pore to face charges' [YahooNews,30Dec2011], 'Two Romanian ‘foreign talents’ allowed to jump bail again' [TT, 18May2012]. PS: Pls note that I do NOT know who the insurer of Ma Chi's Ferrari is. Any reference to NTUC income insurance is only for the purpose of example since NTUC Car insurance seems to be a typical choice of Singaporeans from my anecdotal observation(s).

  21. Generations and generations of our older folks have always advised us against buying our first car before our first house. Now, for the serious petrol-head, that is as unacceptable as Lindsay Lohan without makeup. We need the car, we don't just want one. We are prepared to live in our cars. If you don't agree to these Terms and Conditions, you just aren't a petrol-head and you don't have to read this anymore. Right, Now to business. The house; I'll be quoting as an example will be a conventional 3 room HDB flat located in the favourable Bishan/Ang Mo Kio area. The car the house is going against, is a Ferrari. Any one in fact. The F430, the California or the 599. But for simplicity sake, I'm going to use the F430. Of course, the house looks like the obvious choice. But is it? Well lets find out. For a HDB flat in Bishan or Ang Mo Kio that is going to set you back roughly S$450,000 just for a box in the sky. Then you still have legal fees to pay, not to mention your time spent running around on buses and trains (since you don't have a car) to find that dream home of yours. Time is money my friends and with the 2 or 3, maybe even 6 months of looking around you could have invested in the stock market, started a business. Anything! But no, you were burning fuel in the buses, spending sleepless nights thinking whether a house facing North or South was better for your future leather couch. Then, you'd need another S$100,000 to do up the house decently so that you will actually want to stay there. That is already S$550,000 gone into the house, not counting the time you spent, your transport costs and the sleepless nights. Things are looking bleak for our older folks' advice. However, what you do get at the end is a nice loft, a place to stay and more importantly, your girlfriend can marry you. So what about the Ferrari? Let me demonstrate the ease of the entire transaction. While you were running around in your bus or train, I simply switched on my computer, went to the particularly popular website called SgCarMart and typed in

  23. [extract] Ferrari is recalling some V8 powered Ferrari 458 Italia and Ferrari California cars worldwide. It seems the recalled cars had their engines built with a slightly faulty crankshaft which may cause engine failure in the affected cars. Now unlike bread and butter cars, a Ferrari's engine may cost a kidney or two and even people who could afford a Ferrari may weep at the cost of an engine rebuild. While this s a global recall, it isn't as wide spread as you may think
