  3. PAL-V flying car makes debut flight From a distance it looks like a vehicle built for the road, albeit a slightly unusual one. But on a straight stretch of tarmac or grass this machine transforms, giving it the ability to take to the skies. The PAL-V took its maiden flight in March, and is certified for the air as well as the road. It needs only 165 metres to take off and, depending on weight, can fly for up to 500 kilometres, or 315 miles.
  4. This one more practical in SIngapore. Only need 165m of runway to lift off, as its like a Helicopter cum airplane. I am digging this car......I hope SteveJob can fund this project....or some rich magnate can fund it quickly to make it a reality! http://forum.ibike.com.hk/viewthread.php?tid=121945 Check out these video.....very nice retracting propellers design!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgHSaNtAMjs...player_embedded

  6. Now watching SH Ch401 Battle Stations on F15. My jaws dropped after watching this segment: An Israeli F15D collided with a A4 Skyhawk in 1983 & lost the right wing. The pilot did not know he lost a wing because of the leaked fuel obscuring his vision & managed to come out of a spin after engaging afteburner. Maintaining a higher than normal landing speed the couragrous pilot was able to land the damaged bird almost using up the entire runway. Only then he was able to inspect the damage & his reaction was that if he had knew what had happened he would have ejected with his navigator. Really incredible fighter!!! It remain the only fighter never to have been shot down by a bogey in any air-to-air combat.

  15. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...0820-83228.html MPV lands on car, killing three in family PETALING JAYA: Three members of a family were killed when a multi-purpose vehicle landed on their car after going over a curb in Puchong Perdana yesterday. Minun Aman, 52, and her children, Nor Hidayu and Mohd Azmi Abdul Jalil, 23 and 34 respectively, died on the spot in the 2pm incident at Km15 Jalan Meranti Jaya. It took firemen 20 minutes to extricate the three bodies from the vehicle. Witnesses said the driver of the MPV which landed on the car limped away from the scene without so much as a glance at the wrecked car the family was travelling in. They told police the MPV was being driven at high speed when it hit the curb, causing the vehicle to go airborne. It flew to the opposite lane and landed on the car, before ending up in a drain. The victims were believed to be on their way to a cemetery to pay their respects to a relative when the accident happened. Traffic came to a standstill on Jalan Puchong Perdana for two hours as firemen extricated the bodies and workers cleared the wreckage from the scene. The bodies of the victims were sent to the Serdang hospital. A district traffic police spokesman urged witnesses to contact the nearest police station to assist in investigations.

  17. Due to the increase in fuel prices, even airlines now tighten their belts on fuel usage. source: http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNew...0423-61315.html --------------- Authorities expressed concern that some of the incidents may be prompted by fuel-saving measures. -AFP Wed, Apr 23, 2008 AFP WASHINGTON, US - A REVIEW by federal authorities has revealed a sharp increase in planes, particularly from Continental Airlines, flying into the New York area with so little fuel that they demand an emergency landing. In a report on minimum and emergency fuel declarations into Newark airport last year, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) expressed concern that some of the incidents may be prompted by fuel-saving measures. 'We are concerned that fuel-saving measures may have contributed to the low fuel declarations because of two pilot bulletins issued by Continental Airlines in 2007,' the report said. In the notes to pilots, in February and October 2007, Continental expressed concern with the number of fuel stops pilots were making on flights from Europe into Newark, which is based in New Jersey, and urged a reduction. According to the DOT report, the airline's second bulletin 'further stated that adding fuel indiscriminately without critical thinking ultimately reduces profit sharing and possible pension funding.' The DOT expressed concern that 'these types of bulletins might put pressure on pilots to either not stop for fuel when needed or to carry insufficient amounts of fuel.' Emergency fuel declarations alert controllers on the ground that flight crews need priority in landing because their fuel levels are dangerously low. The majority of the minimum or emergency fuel declarations made into Newark last year - some 66 per cent - were on transatlantic flights, and Continental accounted for 64 per cent, or 96 of the 151 total incidents, the report said. By comparison, 72 such incidents were recorded at Newark's airport in 2006 and 44 in 2005. No similar trends have been noted at other US airports. The report cited the case of a Continental flight from Barcelona in which pilots made minimum fuel declarations to Newark 23 times in 2007. Continental Airlines issued a statement assuring that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules were not violated, and that 'safety was not compromised in any of the situations' evaluated by DOT. 'Neither the DOT nor anyone else has suggested that Continental Airlines has contravened any regulations in its aircraft fuelling procedures,' company spokesman Dave Messing said in a statement. 'Continental uses FAA-approved flight planning programs to ensure that every flight has more than enough fuel to reach its destination,' he said, adding that 'none of the flights studied had less than a 45-minute reserve on board when they landed.' The review, which was prompted by Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey, found the majority of flights making the emergency declarations came from Europe and involved twin-engine Boeing 757s, which were not originally planned for transatlantic services. 'We found that minimum and emergency fuel declarations had increased on flights into the Newark area,' DOT inspector general Calvin Scovell wrote in a letter to Lautenberg. 'However, there were no instances where aircraft landed with fuel levels below those required by the FAA.' Mr Messing said all of Continental's Boeing 757s have been fitted with 'winglets, which increase their fuel efficiency by approximately five percent,' and that the airline was the first to make such modifications to that aircraft type. -- AFP
  18. March 19, 2008 Car overturned, van burst into fire in collision AN EARLY morning collision on Wednesday left a car turned turtle and a van ablaze at the busy junction of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jalan Bahar. Police said that they received a call at about 7am informing them of the accident involving the two vehicles. The Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived a few minutes later and put out the fire, which came from the van's front engine compartment. No was injured in the accident. Stomper Elijah Chai, said police arrived at the scene at about 7.15m. From her window, she said she saw a vehicle on fire, right smack in the middle of the junction, and an overturned car. 'Flames were shooting up into the sky, and traffic was restricted to just a single lane of the major junction. There were some SCDF officers trying to put out the fire. There was a smallish explosion that took an officer off-guard,' she said in an email to Stomp. 'A while later, an officer entered the overturned car and turned off the engine. An ambulance arrived later, having taken a detour to avoid the massive jam.' 'As far as I could see, I did not witness any casualties.' She also sent in several photos of the accident to Stomp. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_218432.html

  23. while the topic is hot on steamboat subs, sub grills etc, how about this: u guys got any experience where when u corner or accelerate, ur sub fly, hit something and got damaged? how did u anchor the sub and how come it fly? btw, thanks bros for the recommendation, i found the velcro that on each of the male-female pieces there is adhesive. it was sold at beach road Army Market for $5 per 36 inch though the aunty gave me 40 inch. not sure if it's a carrot head price. i used 4 strips of velcro each about 9-10 cm long in a square shape to anchor the sub to my plastic boot floor. when removing the sub, the velcro surfaces are very sticky but the adhesive, being weaker, comes off the plastic surface. but when driving it looks secure - sideways movement seems quite difficult - the adhesive can tahan. but not sure if it will lose strength over time - will monitor the situation. p.s. velcro also useful to stick things like HU remote control - i used small strip, anchor remote control cheaply, so no need to buy the steering remote.
  24. I just got hit by a flying pebble (I think) on my Aveo while I was criusing along ECP this morning! Now there is a 2cm long cross (X) near to my rear-view mirror. Should I get it repaired or the windscreen changed? Does anyone know the cost? If I change the windscreen, does anyone know how much does it cost to replace the Huper Optiks film on the front windscreen...?
