  1. This stretch of road (Woodlands Terrace) is where you can buy food directly from the factory. From log cakes, turkey, seafood to BBQ pork http://poortraveller.blogspot.com/2007/12/...irect-from.html
  2. Hi all lovelies, Swam across to JIU HU(JB) on sunday noon time about 230pm 23NOV 2008, traffic was smooth, no jams. hur hur. Headed to Kinashi at PELANGI PLAZA, for lunchie! YAY! Finally i get to eat my JAP FOOD in JB after so much of anticipation and the stirring of kakis invitation. Food was fantastic, along with a 6.5/10 presentation. And for some reasons, comparing it with JAP restaurants in SG, ours are obviously lacking behind in that area, or probably because i've yet to have any chance to visit one with proper presentation. ( how sad ) I shalt let the photos that i've taken speak for itself, though not very well taken( am not a techie person, so dont have a good camera) hehs. Perfect for a dinner date, very efficient service, and good ambience =) enjoyed myself totally. Food: 7/10 (tobiko sushi so fresh that the seaweed go *crisp crisp* lovely) THE SALMON IS SO SO SO FRESH, PRACTICALLY, i can finish the whole salmon, but no guts, no eyes, no smelly innards. haha. PLUS, its just like CHICKEN CHUNKS THICKNESS, you can bite into them~ and its springy. For the alcoholic, dont bother with their sake, not very good ones they serve, better to eat and then go drink somewhere else~ haha. after that, raining, dint wash car, pump petrol liao came back to SG via SECOND LINK, which i went up by mistake~ lol. Oh! Oh! PUMP PRICE DROPPED TO 245SEN~ for SHELL V-POWWWEER! i even chipped my beautiful toenail for that and i guess, coming back to sg via SECOND LINK wasnt a bad idea, no jams, only smooth like waxed skin, the causeway link was so jammed pack til its tailed way past the 2 lanes of road before the left filter lane towards causeway~ Love, Rochelle.
  3. China is well known for imitation. Also notorious for poisioned milk. They also have car manufacturers trying to copy other reputable/established brands in term of design and brandings. Didn't know they also have fake KFC . Please see attached : http://lifeinchina.cn/thread-12015-1-1.html Regards,
  4. looking for a restaurant for good chinese food during weekday lunch. any recommendations?
  5. My experience 1)Always eat half of what is ordered 2)Will almost certainly leave some portions behind even if it is very nice 3)Will snack shortly later (although they claim they are full earlier while only consuming half of the meal) I have observed these behaviours in easily 80% of my female frens/colleagues. I guess most of you have experienced it 1 way or another... any creative/innovative ideas to share to get them to down these "extra" bits
  6. Just wanna see how much you guys spend on breakfast and lunch on a typical work day (weekday that is)... I have a friend who spends more than $30 everyday just on the 2 meals which I personally think is crazy. And he spends it on hawker food so you can imagine the amount/frequency he orders/eats For me... Max $10 everyday for the 2 meals
  7. More fast-food joints offer healthier choices, says HPB By Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 04 August 2008 2131 hrs SINGAPORE: The Health Promotion Board (HPB) said on Monday that more fast-food joints in Singapore have come up with healthier offerings as part of its Healthier Dining Programme. So far, 73 restaurant outlets have come onboard, including Subway and Saybons outlets. The HPB said these healthier options are generally lower in fat and salt, and serve generous portions of fruits and vegetables. This initiative rose out of concern that Singaporeans are spending more on fast-food, according to the 2003 Household Expenditure Data. The HPB said the data also showed that cooked food budget for each Singapore family has doubled between 1982 and 2002. - CNA/yb http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...364859/1/.html after the national day beedeo fiasco, this is the next ultimate wayang. 太丢人现眼, 用别人的屁股当金贴在脸皮。 dun they know subway has been advocators of nutritional food for donkey years before their shameless food programme was even set up??? so will they next say they invented fastfood just like koreans invented curry?

  13. 7:50pm at Woodlands Food Centre Where's the crowd? Stallholders say longer jams at Causeway is affecting their business By Zaihan Mohamed Yusof May 11, 2008 IT was dinner time at the Woodlands Food Centre. --Picture: Zaihan Mohamed Yusof But not much was cooking. The tables were empty, some of the stalls closed. Among the few that were open, business was down to a trickle. It's never been this bad, said stallholders at the food centre near the Causeway. With tighter border checks, the traffic jams, which have always been there, have gone from bad to worse. And they are turning customers away. One operator in his 50s, who wanted to be known only as Mr Mainudin, told The New Paper: 'Before the Mas Selamat incident, you would have to wait to get a table during dinner time. 'Now, it's so empty that you can even play football around the tables.' M'SIAN WORKERS SKIP THEIR DRINK Jemaah Islamiah detainee Mas Selamat Kastari fled the Whitley Road Detention Centre on Feb 27. Since his escape, the police have stepped up border checks at all exit points in Singapore. Mr Mainudin, whose stall is called the Nagore Muslim Drinks Centre, claimed his daily earnings have dropped by half. Between 6pm and 7pm on Wednesday, The New Paper on Sunday saw only three customers buying drinks from Mr Mainudin. He said: 'The Malaysian factory workers used to stop for a drink before heading home across the Causeway. 'With the jams, they don't waste time. They just skip the drink and quickly go back.' Another stall operator, Madam Fatimah Dollah, 69, said she can gauge just how much she is losing in business by how much food she has to throw away at the end of the day. She explained: 'At closing time, I find I have so much food left over that I can't bear to throw it away like I usually do. So now, I give some to the cleaners.' EVEN RESIDENTS HAVE GONE Stallholders said the Woodlands area had gradually been losing its buzz over the last few years. It started when the bus interchange was removed. Around the same time, the HDB area office and post office were also relocated. Said Mr Chia Tok Whee, 35, who runs a seafood soup stall: 'With these facilities gone, this area has stopped being a hub for residents. 'People no longer make it a point to come down here for official business. So there is no reason to stop to have a bite or a drink.' With the increased immigration checks, stallholders said all the major roads leading to the area - Woodlands Road, Admiralty Road, Marsiling Drive and the BKE - are gridlocked. They hope the authorities can help them. Said Mr Oh Cheng Sim, 55, who operates an economy rice stall: 'Short-term we can tahan (Malay for withstand), but long-term, habis! (Malay for finished)' Mr Chia thinks one solution the authorities can consider is better traffic control of the roads leading to the area. He said: 'All the major roads here are interconnected. So if one jams up, they all jam up. 'How about having one dedicated road or route leading to the checkpoint, so that even if there is a jam, the other roads will remain free?' Despite the inconvenience, some loyal customers continue to patronise the food stalls at Woodlands. Mr Mahmud Sidek, 41, a technician, is one of the few. 'It's really up to your luck whether you get caught in a bad jam or not. But I've learnt to avoid peak hours and weekends,' he said. 'Besides, I ride a motorbike, so I can still squeeze in between the cars. I can't imagine how bad it is for those in cars. 'I will continue to come here because I grew up in the neighbourhood and my friends all hang out here. And of course, the seafood is also a big draw!' http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/st...64442,00.html??

  17. http://ekampong.com.sg/ April 28, 2008 Eat for $2 or less - new website tells you where By Maria Almenoar WHILE the prices of rice and other staples are skyrocketing, it is still possible to find a cheap meal. For example, more than half the stalls at the Block 216, Bedok North Street 1 hawker centre sell meals for $2 or less. Some of the stalls are among the more than 20 eateries listed on a new website which tells people where they can find cheap, tasty food. Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan, who is also an MP for East Coast GRC, yesterday launched the website after tucking into a $2 economy rice lunch with 20 senior citizens. Many of the stalls on the list have not raised their prices, despite rising global food costs. Speaking to reporters after the event, Mr Lee said it was important to support stalls that decided to absorb rising costs. 'Why is it they can keep their prices low for so many years? It's because they have the volume and people come to patronise them from near and far,' he said. The list will come in handy for Singaporeans who are in the midst of battling rising costs. Government figures show Singapore's annual inflation reached 6.7 per cent in March, the highest since 1982. The increase was boosted by higher costs of food, transport, communications and housing. Stallholder Lim Kim Chwee, who sells vegetarian bee hoon in the Bedok hawker centre, said he had not raised prices because he was afraid of losing his regular customers. 'How can we deprive people of eating something because they can't afford it? Anyway, the costs are still manageable for me,' said the 53-year-old, who charges between $1.50 and $2 for a meal. The public can also offer suggestions on stalls to be listed on the new website. Mr Lee added that since many senior residents in his area may not be Internet savvy, information on this website would also be disseminated at grassroots events. In addition, his constituency - Kampong Chai Chee - is providing information to the Consumers Association of Singapore which is in the midst of compiling a list of cheap eateries around Singapore. It is likely to launch this list in June. Mr Lee said it was important to keep in mind that consumers can always turn to cheaper alternatives like opting for house brands and frozen foods. 'There are always choices. We are sometimes a victim of our own habits and believe we cannot change these habits,' he said. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  20. What is the difference between Self-employment and Business? Many people thought they are in business when actually they are just self-employed. I believe that there is a difference between owning a business and self-employment. Owning a business is when the business continues to run when the owner is not around, whereas self-employment is when the owner has to be present in order for the business to continue its operations. Thus, if you need to be there to run your shop/business and if you stop, the business cannot go on, then you
