  2. Inspired by the other 1980s thread, hope this will refresh some memories especially those born 1960s or 70s. Those who weren't familiar with Japanese music would find many songs familiar from their Cantonese or Mandarin cover versions. 1. ラブストリ突然に (Love Story Suddenly) 小田和正 (KazumasaOda) http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/rfVaISPZ2c8/ 2. 夢のつづき (Dream On) 玉置浩二 (Tamaki Koji) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kekUjI6LfvM 3. 3. I have this colleague who is quite a nice guy. However, he has this habit of digging his nose whenever the opportunity arises. He is not conscious about it and could dig it right in front of people throughout a group conversation. It affected me as we share the common door knob to exit the workplace. Sometimes, he even touched my mouse to access some data on the computer screen. I am sure our folks here might have encountered people around us with similar habit. How to hint to him without hurting/offending him? He is quite a nice guy though.
  4. Anyone can advise on this? The shortest way, the recommended R&R along the highway, the actual Exit from NSH heading all the way up to Penang. Thanks for sharing and any inputs appreciate!!!

  6. 04:45 AM Mar 31, 2012 SINGAPORE - Electricity will cost more from tomorrow, as higher fuel prices have resulted in higher power generation costs, said electricity, water and gas supplier SP Services in a statement yesterday. Tariffs for households will increase by 4.3 per cent for the quarter from April 1 to June 30, which will mean an increase of 1.19 cents per kWh to 28.78 cents per kWh. This will increase the average monthly electricity bill for families living in four-room HDB flats by S$4.18, said SP Services. Households living in three-room HDB flats will see a S$3.08 increase in their average monthly electricity bill, while families in five-room HDB flats will see a S$4.83 increase. The average fuel oil price over the last three months - between Jan 1 to March 15 - increased by 7.3 per cent from S$127.07 to S$136.37 per barrel. "This increase in fuel oil prices saw a corresponding increase in the price of natural gas which is used for power generation in Singapore," said SP Services. The Singapore Power subsidiary said it reviews the electricity tariffs quarterly based on guidelines set by the Energy Market Authority (EMA), the industry regulator. The latest tariffs given have been approved by the EMA. Electricity costs previously rose by 2.3 per cent for the previous quarter of Jan 1 to March 31. source: http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC12...e-from-tomorrow im wondering what kind of guideline did EMA set.... fuel price drop, our electricity increase as they said we buy at future price... then fuel price drop further, they said we generate electricity using gas not fuel. But when fuel increase, they said increase price cause operating cost increase?? I think nothing is more profitable than generating power in Singapore... any excuses could be use to increase fuel price every quater....

  10. Households to see average rise of about 22% in electricity bills from Oct By Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 29 September 2008 1035 hrs SINGAPORE: Higher oil prices have pushed up electricity prices for this quarter by about a fifth. SP Services said on Monday households will see an average increase of 21.46 per cent in electricity bills, when average electricity tariffs go up by 5.38 cents per kilowatt-hour. On average, all SP Services customers will face a 21.89 per cent increase. For the period from October 1 to December 31, tariffs have been pegged to a higher "forward fuel oil price" of S$155.14 per barrel. This price is 38.06 per cent higher than the S$112.35 per barrel in this current quarter. The electricity tariff is reviewed quarterly and adjusted in line with fluctuations in the cost of electricity, and approved by the Energy Market Authority. At a news conference on Monday, the Authority's chief executive Khoo Chin Hean said that the increase is the highest so far this year. So much so for the increase by the gov on the U-Rebate thing...LPPL...as mentioned tariffs have been pegged to a higher "forward fuel oil price" of S$155.14 per barrel." what if the oil price drop during this period, r they going to refund us??? KNN trying to recoup the URebate through forecast oil price, might as well become a fortune teller...

  17. A new Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) will apply to all new cars, taxis and newly imported used cars with effect from Jan 1, 2013, the Land Transport Authority said on Wednesday. This followed announcements made by Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew in Parliament. Under CEVS, all new cars and imported used cars with low carbon emissions of less than or equal to 160g carbon emissions per kilometre (CO2/km) will qualify for significant rebates of between $5,000 and $20,000, which will be given as an offset against the vehicle's Additional Registration Fee (ARF) payable. Cars with high carbon emissions equal to or more than 211g CO2/km will incur a corresponding registration surcharge between $5,000 and $20,000. The CO2/km performance data for each car model will be provided on mandatory information labels at car showrooms. To encourage taxi companies to adopt lower emission models for their fleet, the CEVS rebate and registration surcharge for taxis is set at 50 per cent higher compared to cars, between $7,500 and $30,000. source: http://www.straitstimes.com/Parliament/Sto...ory_774890.html source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1187568/1/.html

  19. I live in an old 1960s apartment and I noticed in late December that water was leaking from the false ceiling in my toilet, right above the toilet bowl. Became worse 2 days later. Called NTUC Home Income services. The contractor came 5 hours later and sliced the false ceiling. He said it was bad. He found the concrete dislodged. The steel bars are exposed. Water is dripipping from the steel bar area. The owner above told me a tenant is living above and he is overseas. Anyone knows what are the next series of events I should expect? I am thinking that their toilet floor and bottom wall tiles (20 cm) have to be hacked off. Toilet bowl, sink all have to be removed. And a contractor needs to apply the water proof membrane on the whole floor and 20 cm of the wall tiles. The whole process may take 4 days. Should I alert the owner that her tenant would need to find an alternative place to stay for 4 days otherwise he will not be able to use the toilet and bath?
  20. of late my auto transmission car is having difficulties shifting from P to D mode, I have fully depressed the brake pedal before changing the mode but still the shifting is hard. it couldn't be caused by the ATF as it was changed on Sept this year. (or is it the car is not fully warmed up? I usually drive off after 2-3 mins of starting up) While on the road, the changing of gear is not a problem as it does have unusual symptoms I know i should bring to a ws for advice.. but still I would like to seek views from some gurus here. thnks in advance..

  23. This apology is prompt. At least he did not say "people can use another bank, it is whether they choose to..” DBS CEO Piyush Gupta says sorry for ATM fraud. Speaking at a DBS Private Banking event today, Mr Gupta added that the bank regrets the anxiety and inconvenience caused. Mr Gupta said he is happy with the bank's reaction to the crisis and that they were able to identify the affected ATMs and customers very quickly. He has pledged to "stay ahead of the hackers" and assured customers that their deposits are safe. Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1176099/1/.html
