  1. folks, My N16's auto tranny is having some intermittent problems recently. When shifting from gear 1 to gear 2, sometimes it enters into neutral instead. I had to release the throttle totally and it will be back to normal. It doesn't happen very often so my mech says it is hard for him to troubleshoot. Which I agree. Just changed ATF 8,000km ago so no point changing it again. My mech says if there is a need to change gearbox it will cost 1k+. My car has only 2 years left on the COE so I am trying to spend as little as possible. Any alternatives that you can advise? Thank you.
  2. Anyone have this problem before? Am having a Honda Civic 1.8A 2007 make. Strange thing is when I step the brake slightly, the knocking sound gone and come back again when brake is released. Able to replicate the problem most of the time. Just did servicing 3-4 weeks back at a workshop.
  3. A mechanic from TCM said it is not recommended to push the gear to neutral while going down slope because when you shift back to drive mode, the gears wont have enough power to shift back properly?
  4. Hi all, Isit ok to floor accelerator when reversing ? possible to hit 70kmh? any damage to gear box?
  5. Can any want please advise, as my car is very new, so when picking up or accelerate from 1st to 2nd gear the car will jerk.
  6. i have heard that the onboard computer for the gearbox are not very responsive under urban conditions. This is especially so in 1st/2nd gears during traffic jam. is it true? any owner in sg have any comment on it?!
  7. I find a problem with my ride. When I shift my gear into drive the vehicle does not move off automatically. When I try to jerk it makes a screeching noise like rubbing something (no obstruction), something like wheel clamp feeling. Initially thought is the brake but it is not. It will move off once I hit reverse a while then put into drive than it is normal. What problem is this..
  8. hi all need to change gear oil soon. driving sunny need GL4 75w 90 dont feel like spending on syn oil. any pointers to where to get mineral type? thanks for reading
  9. Read the above-mentioned from a Taiwanese car magazine, any comments or advice? 1. ATF Oil Change Methods a)Drain and Replace Due to the complexitiy of Auto Gear Box mechanism, this method usually provide up to 30%of efficiency since leftover oil and deposits will always found stuck in the parts. b)Flushing Usually can reach 100% efficiency but it can also spoil the fine mechanical parts and seals if the pressue of flushing between the inlet and oulet are not kept consistently. c)Change ATF Filter The efficency is 40% but could be a faster and more direct approach. d) Regular oil change Another approach is to change every 20K, even without flushing or replacing the filter, a regular oil change would ensure oil slurge are diluted and expel out with higher change frequency. The most costly approach. 2. Use the correct ATF Stock ATF from the manufacturer is still the best and can't go wrong. 3. Work your Auto gearbox Manually shift down/up your auto gearbox is not a bad ideal. This actually dispel the oil slurge that linger around the moving parts. For those that frequent hilly terrains, it may be good to leave the gear at D3 instead of D. this is to prevent the auto gearbox from shift down/up frequenty automatically. The weakest point of auto greabox is still those moving parts that control gear shifting. Shifting to D3 for high traffic city driving is also recommended to alleviate the need to shift down from gear 4 frequently due to high numbers of stop at traffic lights. 4. Install an ATF Cooler ATF is particularly suited for tropical climate. Higher operating temperate would degrade the ATF fluid quicker than those cars operating under a cooler climate. Regards,
  10. Guys, got a very noob question. Assuming totally no obstructions (this means you are accelerating only. No need to brake or anything): Will it save more fuel to: always shift gear up ASAP or wait for current gear to go past optimal torque (or some other point) before shifting? Or is this car dependant? Thanks....
  11. jus a total replicate of the original UK version but end up being a low class copy, with a irritating young punk (cant even b bothered w his name), a fat guy (supposed US version JC) and an older middle age guy (supposed james may). started yest on channel 407 starhub. i thk its becos the UK season ended last week. sigh...counting down to the new season, UK edition!

  14. This is what happens when you bring an automotive fanatic like Rowan Atkinson to the fanatic automotive world of Top Gear. Great entertainment! "Rowan brought along a prop car from his upcoming film Johnny English Reborn. What appears to be a standard Rolls-Royce Phantom from the outside actually hides a rather large secret under the hood. According to Atkinson, Rolls flirted with the idea of building a 9.0-liter V16-powered Phantom, but ultimately scrapped the idea. Still, the British car maker wound up producing three or four of the mega mills, and Atkinson asked to use one for his new film. The engineers at Rolls obliged, and his Phantom is now a truly exotic luxury coupe." Autoblog Hope you enjoy the video
  15. Where to change gear shift leather, gear knob and steering wheel leather?
  16. Hey guys, Im currently in aussie melbourne for my studies. Recently I bought a '93 lancer at a very cheap price. However there seems to be a few problems (its too late to regret, I can only try to fix those issues now). & also I believe the seller, who has the view of car as a basic mode of transportation, doesnt know/care of all this issues. Anyway the major fault I found with the car is the gearbox. During the start of each journey where the car is pretty cold the change of gear is very jerky. From first to third its acceptable. However when Im crusing at 60kmph onwards the gears will alternate between 3rd to 4th and back to 3rd again (constant gear change with slight jerks) and the rev will be high and low and stuff. After 1-2mins of driving I cant feel anymore gear changes. I think its stuck at 3rd gear, even after I make a complete stop. I make this assumption due to the constant acceleration of rpm and there's slight engine brake while im crusing (instead of changing to a higher gear). Is this issue serious? Should I seek to change it? Secondly, whenever I start the car, the "Check Engine" indicator will light up and the car will come close to stalling. Afterwhich the rpm increases and everything's normal. Is this fine? Should I ignore this or give it a check? I havent been to any workshop to get quotes as I wish to get a list of questions to ask beforehand. Can u guys pls help me to prepare for this as I try to fix it? many thanks!! (:
  17. What's happening with Top Gear? Is it being attacked by a somewhat My Little Poney Fever??? Check how Jeremy, James and Richard have been mashed up by the team from Twilight Sparkle. HAHAHAHAHAHA - Check the video (via Jalopnik)
  18. Anyone can explain more on what is meaning of tall gear or short gear ratio and how it affects fc & acceleration? I read some saying that tall gear is good for fc but bad for acceleration?
  19. Just wondering if parking at D gear (auto car) with handbrake engaged will damage the car? I mean, park completely with engine off.
  20. Hi, will like to find out on a auto box. Will shifting gear from Park to neutral without the engine fired tp be harmful to the auto gearbox? And how abt starting/ warming up the car in the morning in neutral gear instead of park gear? Reason is tat i'm having some wiring/sensor issue with the auto gearbox and having problem starting the car in park gear. Waiting for sept school holiday so tat I could leave the car in the workshop to rectify the fault. Regards
