  1. If I buy a converted 2nd hand OPC (Reg 2006), will I still get back any PARF rebate when I scrap the car after COE expires? For example, the car was initially a OPC and the owner had converted it to a normal car after 5 years, then decided to sell it. 1st to 5th year - OPC 6th year - Normal plate 7th year - Sell If I buy it on the 7th year and drive it until COE expires, how much PARF value will I get back, assuming OMV is 10K?

  3. Status symbol, family mover, needless expense or just plain out of reach - cars are different things to different folk. While COE prices and car ownership here have always been a topic of much disagreement and controversy, high prices and recent government-imposed loan curbs have really fuelled the current debate on cars. The Government is now undertaking a long-term review of the COE system and also hopes to shift mindsets away from car ownership and towards public transport. But what do you car-owners and aspiring car owners think? Do you think you can survive in Singapore without a car? Can you raise a family without a car? Is a car a luxury or a necessity? If you take public transport, how do you cope with crowded trains and buses? Do you burn a hole in your pocket taking taxis? Do you aspire to own a car or are you content without one? Tell us your stories, and your views. I
  4. 1. We know the number of allocation of each category... 2. We only need to share whether we would need to buy car this month... 3. If the number exceeding the allocation given, we just need to postpone the idea to next month? 4. This way we can buy cheaper car with little COE?
  5. Hi all, i read through onemotoring.com on parf benefits and still feel confused on the Parf Rebates thingy i hope that Car gurus here could pass me some practical examples to illustrate the Parf benefits.. Thanks in advance PS: I quite a NOOB... so please forgive my NOOBENESS and don't slam me thanks Example 1) http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...444&DL=1009 4 year 4 month old PARF car (52mths old car) black plate COE $11,901 OMV $16,546 If i convert to red plate from black plate, i will get the following a) yearly payout of 2200SGD till the end of COE b) A flat discount of $500 on annual road tax, subject to a minimum road tax payment of $70 per year c)The additional PARF rebate is calculated based on $2,200 per year for the period that the car remained as a converted OPC under the OPC scheme (in months and days). = 52/12 x 2200 = 9533 SGD c) if i scrap my car when the car is 9 years old, i will stand to gain 50% of ARF paid, ie New ARF = 16,546 + 9533 = 26,079 0.5 x 26,079 = 13,039 Am i right?

  13. Sorry for my language in this post but I'm exasperated ... I went for a run with a buddy, carrying only my iphone and my housekeys. my buddy had nothing. halfway through the run, a stranger comes up to us - his nose is broken, his tshirt is full of blood. he asks for help as he has no money but needs to get to a hospital. he is still bleeding around his face. we are near a bus stop ... my buddy flags down a cab and it goes something like this: me: "uncle, this guy is injured badly ... his whole face is bleeding and he need help .. please take him to hospital" taxi: "no way ... he will bleed all over my taxi" me: "uncle ... im out for a jog, if i have $, i will give you right now. take my mobile no and "test". you come collect the money from me later. to and fro also can. just take him" taxi: "no way... he will dirty my cab. why should i?" me: "uncle how can you like that. i will pay for the cleaning ok? just take him" stranger: "FORGET IT LAH this guy wont help me..." (a bus comes along and the stranger, full of blood on his tshirt, just hops on. bus driver and passengers are shocked.) me to bus uncle: "uncle .. i call for ambulance ... can you wait?" bus driver doesnt understand ... shrugs ... closes the door and drives off. the passengers are looking at me, im looking at them, and i've called the ambulance. ambulance hotline says as he got on the bus ... nothing the emergency service can do ... i even gave them the bus license plate no ... but they cant do anything liao ... i really wish i took down the cab driver's license plate. this stranger had a broken nose and was still bleeding and he is somewhere out there on bus 14 to orchard road ... seriously ... there were other people nearby but they didnt even bother to help, or try to assist us since neither of us had cash handy argH!!! this is just f--king b-------t ...

  16. Hi, Lately, have observed that we have many lorries & trucks plying the highways epecially during peak hours (both morning & evening timing), where some of these truckes are zooming in & out of lanes dangerously... Maybe it is time for us to consider measure(s) like other countries?...where big trucks / lorries can only go onto highway during off-peak hours? Believe this can help to reduce traffic conjestions / accidents.

  23. As above. But must be specific hor, pls don't give answers like that one in Jln Kayu or that one in Upp Thomson Road, haha Also, since this is a car forum, can also comment about the situation of parking. OK, for me, if u like your prata extra crispy, can try The Roti Prata House, 246M Upper Thomson Road. But best don't see how they cook it, the amount of oil used is scary. Parking is road side illegal, extremely limited.
