  10. Don't know what you guys read from this report, but I smell sour grapes from Ferrari chief latest comment. Suggest he boycott all future F1 street-circuit then. MILAN, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has poured scorn on Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix, saying the "circus" track and the use of the safety car had been humiliating for Formula One. Formula One's first night race drew rave reviews from participants and onlookers, including the sport's delighted supremo Bernie Ecclestone, but was one to forget for the Italian team. Brazilian title contender Felipe Massa had his race ruined by a bungled pit stop while faltering world champion Kimi Raikkonen crashed near the end. "When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen including the spectacle of the Safety Car," Montezemolo was quoted as saying in Tuesday's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper. "All this is humiliating for F1 and it is an aspect I want to talk about with the other teams in the next few weeks." Singapore saw two safety car interventions, the first of which turned the race upside down and contributed to Spaniard Fernando Alonso's unexpected victory for Renault. Montezemolo, appointed this month as the first chairman of the Formula One Teams Association, said before the race that street circuits and the lack of overtaking opportunities were not the right way forward for the sport. Ferrari's failure to score any points in Singapore meant McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, third behind winner Fernando Alonso, extended his championship lead over Massa to seven points with three races left. Finn Raikkonen is out of contention but Montezemolo still sounded confident. "We have the best Ferrari, Massa is the best. I expect... Raikkonen to show he is world champion in the remaining races, to help Massa, to race for the good of the team and to finish in front of the McLarens," he said. The team president also backed the mechanics who gave Massa the green light during a pit stop despite the fuel hose still being attached to the car as he sped away. "We have extraordinary mechanics who in other occasions have swung results our way. We must stay close to each other because Ferrari are always world champions and are still in the running to win," Montezemolo added.

  15. So many after market air filters out there..... which one to choose from? Being a complete noob..... I wasn't even sure what such kits are good for? So I did a quick research on the net and found a very interesting article on this site http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ What are the benefits of an Induction Kit? The primary function of an Induction Kit is to clean the air before it enters the engine, but also to provide better air flow to improve the engines power output. The power output of an engine is proportional to the volume of air it can ingest at any given time, assuming that the fuelling is also set up correctly. The most minute restriction in the air induction system will cause an engine's optimum power output to drop. Maintaining optimum, unrestricted air flow becomes a problem when the air must pass through a filter element. There are many different designs of filters on the market, and each manufacturer will make claims that their design is more effective than their competitors. Generally, the greater the air flow restriction, the greater the power loss. Therefore, the ultimate acheivement is to choose as filter that will flow as much air as possible, without sacrificing filtration efficiency.[/b]

  17. TEN hair salons at a Bedok Reservoir neighbourhood centre had hardly any business yesterday: A new kid on the block was pulling in those who needed a haircut - and those who did not - by offering them for just $2.80. Business was brisk at Snip Avenue, one among the row of shops at the foot of Block 631, Bedok Reservoir Road. Customers came from as far afield as Sengkang and Yishun for the bargain, which does not come with a pre-cut shampoo. Polytechnic student Jeff Lim, 18, who lives in Woodlands and usually pays $10 for his monthly haircut, said he was sceptical about the quality of cut at first. 'But the hairstylists are all very beautiful, so the haircuts here can't be that bad,' he reasoned. He had to wait 40 minutes for his turn, but it was well worth it, he said, emerging from the shop sporting the layered look he asked for, 'like the singers in 5566', the Taiwanese boyband. His uncle William Tan, 43, a project executive who lives in Katong, was another happy customer who now thinks he may stop going to Johor Baru for his monthly haircut. 'At $2.80, it's even cheaper than in Malaysia,' he said. Then there were others in the queue who were at first drawn by the bargain price, but ended up going for more than just a haircut. Customer service officer Eva Md Yussuf, 38, was taking her daughter for a walk when the advertisements outside the salon caught her eye. She got her five-year-old daughter a haircut and also put herself through the works - highlights and a treatment - and ended up spending $90.80, several cuts above $2.80. She said: 'I was attracted by the $2.80 haircut, but I thought I'd try the other services as well since I'm here.' She is exactly the kind of customer that Snip Avenue boss Jimmy Tan wants. 'When a customer is happy with the haircut, sometimes, he would go for other services like perms and highlights too,' said the 50-year-old, whose first outlet in Tampines opened last June with haircuts priced at $6.80. His other outlets in Bedok North, Serangoon Central and Yishun charge either $3.80 or $4.80. When asked how he sustained the business, he said: 'The profit margin is not high now, but the concept is to have many outlets and, hopefully, the mass volume can cover the cost.' His many outlets and the fact that the one in Bedok Reservoir is still in the game after eight months is a possible indication that his business idea is working. The traffic he gets probably more than makes up for his low takings from each head. The Bedok Reservoir outlet tends to about 85 on weekdays and over 100 on weekends. The six hairstylists work 10 hours a day at a steady clip, with few breaks. Asked how her job was, stylist Maggie Chong, 22, had only one word to describe it: 'Tiring.' Theirs is a happy problem which the other salons - charging between $10 and $13 for a haircut - do not share. Mrs J. Lee, 36, who charges $10 for a haircut, reckons her earnings have been crimped by at least half. She spent most of yesterday watching television and chatting with her two stylists. She does not intend to lower her prices though. Said Mrs Lee: 'How am I going to lower my price and fight with them? What if they decide to cut for free one day?'
  18. Was exiting from Whampoa Mkt at night. Two-way traffic but even though its double-yellow line cars still parked making 2 way traffic tricky. One car was at the entrance but stop there, cars were lining up to exit behind me. Try to negotiate out but the headkights of the other car blinded me. So I switch to small light but the other did not get the cue even though I try to flag him. When I finally was side-by-side, we wind down the window. First thing he mumbled was "What's the problem?" rather unfriendly tone. I kept cool saying "I tried to get out but your lights blind me". The he 'uhhhh..ok'. We parted. Are not we supposed to switch away from headlight on when approaching dark road when head-on? What is the good practice?
  19. Hello ICE experts, i scan through some of the threads in this forum and found that most of the recommended HU are quite ex. If i have a budget of $400 (Inclusive installation), is that any good and value for money units that you could recommend? For new car, is it also advisable to change all the cabling? Saw in some magazines that one can get reasonable cabling works for $80. Hope to hear from everyone soon. Cheers

  22. COE prices continue to head south Prices continue to fall across the board in the latest tender, with the premium for bigger cars posting the biggest drop. -ST Wed, Dec 05, 2007 The Straits Times CERTIFICATES of Entitlement (COE) prices continue to fall across the board in the latest tender on Wednesday, with the premium for bigger cars posting the biggest drop. That premium for cars above 1,600cc dived by more than $3,000 to end at a 10-month low of $13,114. The COE for cars up to 1,600cc fell by more than $2,000 to finish at $12,001 - again one of the lowest this year. The Open COE, used mainly for cars, was down by around $1,500 to end at $15,501. Commercial vehicle COE closed at exaclty $13,000 - about $1,400 lower than its previous rate. Even motorcycle COE ended lower at $1,012 - from $1,052 previously. Motor traders said the market was quiet, as the year-end holidays and an absence of new mainstream models kept buyers away. Bids for the above-1,600cc category were just 15 per cent more than the supply of COEs, reflecting a weak order bank. In the last round, they were 19 per cent above COE supply. Car agents are expected to cut prices in response to the lower premiums. Toyota distributor Borneo Motors for instance, has slashed prices by $2,000 all round. The reduction is expected to stir some interest, which means premiums in the next tender - the week before Christmas - should rise.
