  1. Hi All, The reason for this post is to inspire those that have the capacity and capability to give back to needy Singaporeans. (MCF all loaded people 🤣🤣) been very fortunate to be in a comfortable position during these turbulence and economically challenging time, thus decided to give back to the community. have decided to donate a small token of appreciation for the guidance and opportunity which was shown to me. hopefully the needy students would have some pressure taken off them while in school. has also on company level, have park some money with government institutions to help need Singaporeans. even if this post managed to inspire 1 person to help , it has achieved the intention. again, dont have so much time to surf, merry Christmas and happy new year

  3. MustShareMail: Mental Health Issues Are Important To Recognise Amidst The Pandemic https://mustsharenews.com/increase-mental-health-awareness/ Dear Must Share News, I would like to share my honest opinions and feelings related to the issue of mental health amidst the Covid-19 pandemic with the hope that awareness will be increased even as we move forward towards an endemic post-Covid world. The recent tragic incident at River Valley High School (RVHS) has shined the spotlight on mental health issues amongst our school-going children. Education is key in shaping the future of our nation and schools are a place to learn, nurture and grow. But with this incident, will the Education Ministry and the Government finally realise that mental health issues are important and that it will see the light of the day of it being discussed openly. The biggest hope would also be that more companies also recognise mental health issues as a condition that some employees might face amidst the pandemic. At this point of the pandemic where everyone is feeling restless and exhausted after more than a year, the government should also realise that our society is already stressed enough, made worse by the pandemic. Policies can also be drawn up for the benefit of everyone to seek redress on mental health issues and not let it go silent once investigations into this incident are over. Thank you. Best Regards, Winn

  5. Ubi Soup Kitchen Seeks Help To Pack 9,000 Meals A Day, Volunteers & Rice Needed source: https://mustsharenews.com/soup-kitchen-willing-hearts/ Soup Kitchen Needs Volunteers To Pack 9,000 Meals A Day, Up From 6,500 Before Pandemic Beyond lost jobs and lower salaries, the Covid-19 pandemic has sadly left more Singaporeans struggling to fulfil basic needs like food. Thankfully, organisations like soup kitchens are around to help, offering regular meals to those in need. One such soup kitchen is Willing Hearts, which has been working hard to cater to their beneficiaries’ needs through this difficult period. In a Facebook post today (5 Oct), they shared that they’ve had to provide roughly 2,500 more meals daily since the outbreak, and hence need more help. Appealing to the public’s goodwill, they’re asking for anyone who’s willing and able to contribute in their own ways. Soup kitchen prepared more meals during pandemic According to their Facebook post, Willing Hearts prepared about 6,500 meals daily before the Covid-19 pandemic. However, this number rose over the course of the pandemic. The number has now increased to about 9,000 meals daily, which is an estimated increase of 2,500 meals. As a result, the demand for food supplies has also risen, with Willing Hearts using between to 900-1,000kg of rice every day. Soup kitchen appeals for volunteers and donations With the number of meals produced for the needy, it is no surprise that more volunteers are needed. According to their Facebook post, the soup kitchen says that they are especially shorthanded during their weekday 5am slots. Understandably, many Singaporeans may not be awake so early in the morning, especially with work or school starting in a few hours. However, one could consider giving up their morning run once a week to help out at Willing Hearts. Apply as a volunteer or make donations online Those interested in volunteering their time to prepare and pack food can sign up via this link. You can choose a date that you’d like to volunteer on and indicate that you’re coming. Drivers can also lend their vehicles to a charitable cause by helping out with food deliveries around Singapore. Kind souls who’d like to donate items or funds can do so via this link, where one can find a list of recommended items to donate. More information about volunteer roles and dress code can be found at Willing Hearts’ website. Volunteering your mornings for a good cause Operating a soup kitchen is no easy task. According to their Facebook page, Willing Hearts operates all year long, distributing food to 40 locations islandwide. With the Covid-19 pandemic, this task has become harder. Their beneficiaries include the elderly, disabled, low-income families and children with single parents. If you have the time, do volunteer to help out these vulnerable groups with this soup kitchen. This year has truly shown the best and worst of humanity. But let’s be one of those who offer a helping hand or guiding light to others in these dark times, and give them hope for the path ahead.

  8. Hi Seniors.. Need your advise on the below: I was involved in a cross junction traffic accident whereby I was driving straight towards a junction when the greenlight is in my favour. I hit a right turn car. My front bumper is badly damaged with engine and passenger air bags activated. The car is quoted 65k to repair at authorised dealer. As my car has a high parf of 80k and a resale same car is going at ard 100k. The opp insurance company treat this case as a total loss. As much as i will prefer to repair the car..thereis now no other offer from other workshop to take up this job. What other alternatives are available to me? As a total loss write off will be at my disadvantage? Appreciate your constructive comments please. Thanks

  10. I don't use a mobile phone and my missus only uses a couple of dollars worth of whatever a month. But she just told me that M1 are scrapping nearly all of their 19 mobile plans and reducing them to just two, the cheapest of which cost S$25 per month. Is this correct. She said Singtel and Starhub already do this. Is there a Mobile Plan with any provider which would suit her small usage. Thanks.

  14. Most of us here in this forum are blessed with good jobs, able to afford car and above average salary. I believe in 取之于社会, 用之于社会. Whatever we earn from the society, we should give some back to the society. Although there are many charity organisations like NKF, Cancer society, Old folk home, hospital getting Government funding and also public donations. Some poor and elderly people still fall thru the cracks and not able to get any help from any Government agency and most Charity organisations. I am not related to any of the charity organisations but like to bring awareness to one, Ray of Hope https://rohi.sg/case/list which is less well known to the Public. This is also the purpose of this thread. Many of the cases at Ray of Hope is much more urgent and serious than Give.Asia. Some genuine & urgent cases as below: https://rohi.sg/case/details/Your-donations-will-give-Abi-hope%21 https://rohi.sg/case/details/Save-my-wife-who-is-suffering-and-diagnosed-with-Stage-4-cancer- https://rohi.sg/case/details/HOPE-will-keep-her-going I hope people here can help to donate any amount to help these people and cases at https://rohi.sg/case/list. $10, $20 means a lot to these people. Thanks https://rohi.sg/case/details/HOPE-will-keep-her-going The Struggle Previously, ROHI has helped raise $1,000 for the living expenses of 78-year-old Madam Yang (https://rohi.sg/case/details/Bring-hope-to-an-elderly-grandmother). Although we were heartened to hear that the family is now reunited after her daughter’s discharge from the halfway house, there are more issues for Madam Yang to be worried about moving forward. Madam Yang’s health has also taken for a dip and she still suffers from the side effects of her medications. She often suffers from swollen joints as a result of her arthritis. Recently, her right toe was also amputated as there was a growth on it. The real struggle comes when Madam Yang, who is a Malaysian is not entitled for medical subsidies and grants. Madam Yang told us that even with the $600 Guardian Care Assistance that she receives every month, the assistance is insufficient to cover the family’s expenses, especially when she needs to visit the hospital multiple times a month. Quoting Madam Yang, “To me, receiving treatment is never a priority. I would rather spend the money on my family”. Help Needed – Give Hope When the case workers first met Madam Yang, she told us how helpless she feels, especially when she is not in the best state of health to work. Apart from her long list of medical conditions that include severe arthritis, breathlessness, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and suspected digestive and throat issues, she is also the main caregiver to her 14-year-old grand-daughter as her daughter is struggling with stage 2 leukemia and depression. Even with so much to handle, a resilient Madam Yang chose to remain positive and remains positive for her family. Financial Breakdown ROHI would like to raise $1,700 to help the elderly grandmother with her arrears (Medical, Town Council and SP Services - $450) and living expenses ($250 x 5 months). Payment for Madam Yang’s arrears will be made to the relevant agencies directly.
  15. Want to buy a car. Found a good deal, but the dealership is 2 far from me. I can transfer a car to my area, but not ready to visit the dealership several times, have no time. They sent me a vehicle history report, pretty good grades. Tons of car photos and one short video. Also my brother in law bought there a 2010 Tacoma, didn't complain (but they moved so he can't help). Now a dealership offers me to test drive a car online via some app called LVS. I want to try because driving 200 miles for a test drive - no thanks. I think I can get necessary info from an online test drive, at least I could hear how engine works and stuff. Has anyone had such an experience? Is it safe and modern or I've lost my mind? Thanks in advance!
  16. Hi all taxi uncles or aunties, i am in need (desperately) for advice on how to make a little bit more using taxi share under smrt? Last time i can earn about $12 per hr after deducted rental and fuel. I started to drive again as i kenna fired by company again. Averagely i earn around 6 to 7 dollars per hour. Yesterday was the worst, i earned only $15 for the 10 hours booking. Not much calls from smrt call booking. like 10 hours 1 call. When about to accept after checking how to go, people take already. So i do only street hires. Anyhow Drive for 10km to 20km round ans round the estate only 1 passenger go to short trip $4.58. Not sure Want to laugh or cry. Din install grab because taxi share always different car plate number. Any master here? I like to meet you and buy you coffee hope you can share with me some advice. I am not giving up yet. I only set a very low expectation As long as can breakeven i am fine. Smrt per hour rental was very high. I hope other taxi company can come.out this flexi scheme too. I am a very hard working driver. I usually eat bread inside car to beat time. I only step out to go toilet only. No time to lose. Thank you.
  17. Don't worry, we are not making it compulsory for all to adopt a dog, or crowdfund to build a bridge, but just something very simple, and doable by most, if not all MCFers. Of late, it have came to our attention that makan thread has been showcasing non-edible stuff, hobby thread slowly transforming into an advertising platform, piak piak and vulgarities becoming a norm in almost every other thread, and even cat fight going on in a thread created for pet lovers. You know what (and who) I am referring to... I would like to remind you that MCF is an open forum for members from all walk of life to share their knowledge / experience, raise meaningful queries, and be engaged in healthy discussions. 18. This hit and run Incident happened on 02/10/2018 at 9.30AM at parking lot. I parked my vehicle at parking lot. At 11.30AM I went to my vehicle and noticed there were scratches and dent, my vehicle was hit by another vehicle. I requested from the company near parking lot to view security camera and noticed this Sliver Van when he reversed his van to park at lot beside mine and he hit my vehicle. Despite he felt impact and came down to take a look. He left without leaving contact or details. I have the video and photo of this incident. I proceed to make a accident report online, and went down to Mazda to make accident report. After showing them the video which I saved the Mazda Claim executive said the evidence it wasn't strong. At 3pm the security guard saw the Van driver drove back his van and gave him my number asked him to call me back. The van driver called me as I answer he said with laughter and said he didn't know he bang my vehicle despite the video clearly shown he came down to look in front and behind of the vehicle and pick his colleague, drove off. He said he want a private settle which I disagree, I questioned how can he not know he bang my car when the video shown. Some more my car is less than 3 month old. I must report which he said ok. After that the claim executive asked me to request his vehicle insurance, I sms but he didn't reply. I called him and ask for his cooperation he had the guts to raise his voice at me "you wan report you report lah, ask for my details for what. My vehicle also no scratch. Don't know you report for what." I told him he bang my car till my car paint chipped off he still can say? At that point I was furious but did not want to argue anymore. According to the claim executive he said this 3rd party claim case is based on case by case basis and can drag for years plus my evidence is not strong, last resort will have to self claim. I'm not looking for sympathy or online shaming this farker but rather need people advise on this kind of situation how do you handle, thanks. The hit and run damage left on my vehicle
  19. Hello there. I've been dabbling in tuning my Volvo V50 and I came across some problems all around. What would be the best option to maximize bhp without sacrificing the reliability of the car ? I found some different forums that provide different answers and I'm kind of in a hurdle to be honest. The second thing is where could I find the best part supplier ? I'm not really looking for a shop to do all the work because that really just takes out all the fun in it for me so doing the whole car by myself would be a very big accomplishment lol. I've looked on https://www.247spares.co.uk/volvo and https://www.autozone.com/ for some parts but I'm not really sure where else to look. Can I find good parts on these sites ? All help will be very appreciated because I really want to get started with my project haha. Thanks a lot!
  20. This is relatively old news but generating quite a fair bit of discussions on the net. Would be interesting to hear views of MCFers. I personally think the couple is making terrible life choices. In olden days, people have many kids because they have no entertainment and or access to contraceptives. Kids on a farm can also be handy during harvesting time but in SG, it is a big commitment. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/cnainsider/help-for-7-children-living-under-3000-month-singapore-big-family-10504636?cid=fbcna
  21. Setting up this thread to help myself and others who may have caught a snippet or the whole movie somewhere, like a plane, trailer or something and would like to know what the movie title is, so they can find and watch that movie :) Some format to help others find the movie for you: - rough period in which the movie was viewed - likely year of release of the show, even if you only narrow it down to the decade, it helps - Western / Chinese / Jap / Korean etc - genre So here's my first question: It was an incidental finding on an recent flight.. What I know It's release in the recent past - 2016 onwards It's a Chinese / Korean / HKG / Jap collaboration Set in WWII, with a Jap treasure involved, and an HKG who plays a kick ass Jap general with a wonderful fight scene at the end The movie starts with an Indiana Jones / Han Solo type hero rogue who bluffs and cheats his way out of trouble, and a Korean actress who is a spy and kills her Jap army officer husband on a train to secure some map / info.. That's all I have... Thanks bros!
  22. Hi all. I intend to purchase a car for my Dad to drive for Grab. I will pay the 30% downpayment. The thing is I was initially quoted 2.4% interest rate. But upon hearing that my Dad is using it for Grab, the sales person increase the interest rate to 3.4% on the basis that PHV car loan will have higher interest rate even though Im only taking 70% loan. I called LTA to clarify and they say they there is no such regulation. I called the bank and the CSO tells me that as long as I register the vehicle under my Dads name (you can do that now for PHV) and not under a business entity, then the interest rate will not change. The thing is I told the agent about this but she is adamant that she is right and says that I am flouting the law if my Dad attempt to drive PHV under the usual car loan. She is even willing to give up my sales. So... who is right?!
