Can someone advise how not to fall pry to pitfalls, like we read so much abt buyer got con and already paid out huge deposit sum of money only to find out car is still under finance instead of already transfer ownership, etc. and still can’t own the car after paying all the money. Are there such pitfalls for direct dealing with seller? Tks
  2. Dear Drivers, Bros, Friends and the other reprobates that hang out here. As part of a new thing for my company - and to help out a friend running a golfing business, I have had my programmer develop a simple GOLF COURSE RATING application that runs on Facebook. This is for Singapore and Johor only for now, it allows for you to enter your round of golf, comment on your best and worst holes, and give a comment on the course - as well as see what others say. My application is ready for BETA testing (not going live to the public yet) - so I need some users to test it and give feedback please. If you are a golfer, and are able to help out to do some testing and give your considered opinions, please drop me a PM. Many many great thanks Darryn * P.S - I asked permission before posting this

  4. Hi people, please stop taking photos or videos on your mobile phone the next time you come across an accident. Help the victims, just like what the 12 year old did. He approached both drivers involved in a traffic accident to check on their well-being when no one else stepped in to help. When 12-year-old Ashvin Gunasegaran was on his way home with his friends after school, they heard a loud "boom" behind them as they were crossing the road. He turned around and saw that two cars had collided in a middle of the junction of Yishun Ring Road and Yishun Ave 2. Without a second thought, the Yishun Primary School Student rushed to attend to the victims. He was warned by his friends not to step forward as the roads were too dangerous. "I thought someone would step up and help but then it turned out there was no one. Everyone was just taking pictures and no one was helping them," said Ashvin. He approached the drivers one after another and he found out that one was pregnant and her leg was bleeding. He eventually waited for the ambulance to arrive before leaving the scene. For his gallant efforts to ensure the well-being of the victims of the accident, which took place around 1.10pm last Tuesday (May 31), Ashvin was awarded the Public Spiritedness Award by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) on Thursday (Jun 2). Speaking at the award ceremony, Commander for the 3rd SCDF Division Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Chua said: "You are never too young to be somebody who renders a helping hand. Ashvin is just all of 12 grand years in age and I'm very surprised, in fact, and very happy that he has stepped forward." "We hope all people could do likewise despite the fact that we had people standing by taking photographs and your friends were quite hesitant to come forth. He did so. He did a marvellous job," LTC Chua added. Ashvin's mother, Swares Helen Louisa, 50, who was also present at the award ceremony, said she is very proud of her youngest son. "He is my hero in the house now. I really didn't expect he went all the way to help the two ladies that (were) involved in the accident. So I'm really very happy," she said. "I feel heroic. Because I actually thought that it would be a normal day after but suddenly everyone started calling me a hero, all my friends and all my family," said Ashvin.

  6. Article dated 2001 though Philip Morris Cos. officials in the Czech Republic have been distributing an economic analysis concluding that cigarette consumption isn't a drag on the country's budget, in part because smokers' early deaths help offset medical expenses. The report, commissioned by the cigarette maker and produced by consulting firm Arthur D. Little International, totes up smoking's "positive effects" on national finances, including revenue from excise and other taxes on cigarettes and "health-care cost savings due to early mortality." The premature demise of smokers saved the Czech government between 943 million koruna and 1.19 billion koruna (between $23.8 million and $30.1 million or between 20.3 million euros and 25.7 million euros) on health care, pensions and housing for the elderly in 1999, according to the report. The report also calculates the costs of smoking, such as the expense of caring for sick smokers and people made ill by second-hand smoke as well as income taxes lost when smokers die. Weighing the costs and benefits, the report concludes that in 1999 the government had a net gain of 5.82 billion koruna ($147.1 million) from smoking. Philip Morris said it received the Little report late last year and handed it out recently after complaints from Czech officials that the tobacco industry was saddling the country with huge health-care expenses. "This is an economic-impact study, no more, no less," said Robert Kaplan, a spokesman for Philip Morris's international tobacco unit in Rye Brook, N.Y. "We're not trying to suggest that there would be a benefit to society from the diseases related to smoking." Philip Morris manufactures about 80% of the cigarettes smoked in the Czech Republic. The New York company, which owns a 77.5% stake in a formerly state-owned Czech tobacco enterprise, sells its flagship Marlboro smokes as well as local brands. Measuring the net costs of smoking to societies and governments long has been controversial and difficult. Studies measuring the lifetime health-care costs of smokers, who die sooner but have higher annual medical expenses, have reached conflicting conclusions. Some find that, over their lives, smokers have similar costs to nonsmokers. Others have found that smokers' health-care costs are higher. Gauging the real level of such costs is very difficult, and hard-to-quantify expenses aren't captured in many estimates. Smokers, for example, recover more slowly and are more likely to have complications after surgery for unrelated problems, increasing the cost of caring for them. Tobacco-control experts attacked the Czech report. "Is there any other company that would boast about making money for the public treasury by killing its customers? I can't think of one," said Kenneth Warner, an economist at the University of Michigan's school of public health. Dr. Warner said the study appeared to be seriously flawed because, among other things, it fails to consider what the economic impact would be if smokers stopped buying cigarettes and spent their money on other goods instead. Eva Kralikova, a physician and epidemiologist at Charles University in Prague, said the report also "very much underestimated" the costs of medical care for people suffering from smoking-related diseases. Dr. Kralikova said lung cancer and other illnesses caused by tobacco use account for about 20% of all deaths in the Czech Republic, killing about 23,000 people a year. And she said the number of illnesses and deaths is expected to mount, as is the expense of medical treatment, as smokers age.

  8. Hi everyone, Was involved in a traffic accident where the other party is at fault (clear cut case), lorry bang me from behind at a slip road. My sedan car become hatchback now. Car left with 7months (market value after scrap value about 6k), repair cost estimated by AD to be at 13k-15k. Seems like 3rd party insurer will choose to write off the car. However, my workshop is saying that i cannot claim loss of car usage (courtesy car) from 3rd party insurer until they approve the claim. Which may take weeks or even month. Is this the norm? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

  12. Few days back I got into an accident. Traffic jam at usual flowing road, front vehicle jam brakked, I brake in time. Vehicle from rear came crashing and drag me to hit vehicle in front. Damage to my car front and back. Friendly "helper" appear within 10 mins. Saying he can handle the case so that I don't pay a single cent. Helped my car to a Kaki Bukit workshop. Gave me a replacement car on the spot and promises one week lead time. Helped with all my incident reports and tells me that he knows what that after viewing the other party's reports, he confirms that it's third party claim. After repair he will one to one exchange my car. Sound very good service so far. How can I ensure that this is a confirm third party claim? Because this ws is not authorized ws for my insurance. If somehow later on they say that the 3rd party claim not successful, when will I know? Any experience with this workshop? Do I need to be careful of something? Do i force them to produce something before start repair? As for insurance reports I got none so far.

We are community caregivers of dogs and cats for the past 10 years between us. Looking after the strays at Industrial and Housing estate. We are also a resgistered society, (Society for the Care of Community Cats and Dogs). About 5 months ago, we took over ownership of a kennel from an old man who hasn't been looking after his dogs properly. A sponsor has promised help, but for the past three months we have been taking from our savings and paying for the kennel ourselves and we are no longer able to do so. The sponsor has since told us straight out, that no help will be given. Some of the dogs were puppies found in a box, thrown away like rubbish on the roadside, then others were entrusted in our care and the owners just dissapeared. The pet farm is chasing us for the last two months board fees ($6850 URGENT!) and current month ($3425) and all 18 dogs are will be evicted if board fees are not paid. 14. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/hillview-flyover-to-help-ease-bukit-timah-road-traffic Hillview flyover to help ease Bukit Timah Road traffic Construction for Hillview flyover started in the second half of 2011. Motorists can start using it from 8am on Dec 27. It is part of LTA's road improvement project to enhance parts of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Woodlands Road. ST PHOTO: AZIZ HUSSIN PUBLISHED3 HOURS AGO The new Hillview flyover in Upper Bukit Timah Road will open this Sunday. Motorists going to Woodlands from the city, or vice-versa, will be able to use the dual two-lane flyover to bypass a stretch of Upper Bukit Timah Road between Chestnut Drive and Jalan Asas. The flyover provides an alternative route that will redistribute traffic from existing ground-level junctions at Dairy Farm Road and Hillview Road, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday. Construction for the 700m-long flyover started in the second half of 2011. Motorists can start using it from 8am on Dec 27. The LTA has advised motorists heading towards Dairy Farm Road, Hillview Road and Jalan Asas to continue to use the ground-level roads, and not the flyover, to reach their destinations. The Hillview flyover is the second one to be completed along the corridor this year. In April, the Bukit Panjang flyover was opened along a stretch of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Woodlands Road. The viaduct allows motorists to bypass the intersection of Choa Chu Kang Road, Upper Bukit Timah Road, Woodlands Road and Bukit Panjang Road . The two flyovers are part of a larger infrastructure project, which also includes widening parts of Upper Bukit Timah Road and Woodlands Road to improve overall traffic flow in the corridor. "With the enhancement of this key arterial road corridor serving the north-western part of Singapore, motorists travelling to and from Bukit Panjang and Choa Chu Kang residential estates, as well as the Kranji and Mandai industrial estates, will enjoy a better transport experience," the LTA said. Mr Balasupramaniam, 69, a retiree, welcomes the new flyover. He said: "During the peak hours, the traffic along Upper Bukit Timah Road can be quite congested." He added that motorists heading to Woodlands would enjoy a faster drive with the flyover, as they do not have to mix with traffic that is turning into the condominiums in the area, such as along Hillview Road. 16. hi, my friend has a 520i bought 2 years already. since day 1, the car will vibrate when stop at traffic light in Drive mode. this is of course with the engine still running, idling at traffic lights. can feel the whole car vibrate from the feet and whole seat. every passenger can feel it. It happens the whole day even after warming up. the worst part is that his mechanic at PML says it is normal for this model. they even let my friend test sit the demo car to prove that their demo car has the same vibration. i help my friend search on BMW forums but no one complain of this permanent vibration. only some people complain of intermittent vibrations which goes away after warm up. anyone who drives 520i or has friends who has driven 520i, please comment whether yours got vibrate at idle?

  18. @scoryan done!. Hope you get witnesses coming forward "Urgent help needed for accident at about 6.50pm on 27/10/15 (Tuesday) Hi guys & gals, Not sure if this is the right place to post this thread. I'm really very unlucky to get into an accident on 27/10/15 ( Tuesday) at about 6.50pm after exiting the Bedok exit from ECP towards Changi. At the junction of Marine Parade Road and Bedok South Ave 1 (right after the ECP exit to Bedok), a lorry knocked off my left side view mirror and sped off. I stopped at the accident spot but the lorry continue driving away. As I could not see the lorry's licence plate clearly, I decided to speed over to stop his lorry. I did so but he insisted that he was right and didn't know he knocked my car although I have horned at him before and after he hit me. Maybe I should have just stayed put at the accident spot and called the police? Now, I believed it's his word against mine. Very sad... Are there any kind folks here or people you know who happened to witness this accident and captured it on his/her car camera? If yes, can you please pm me? Hopefully I can get the footage and it can be used for my insurance claim. Thanks a lot! *Thought of installing a car camera next month as a birthday present for myself but now it's too late... For those who wished to install a car camera, please don't wait. Please go and do it tomorrow." Thanks RadX and I hope to hear your kind and positive reply soon!

  24. Dear all, how do one persuade someone close to you to seek medical help for signs of depression? I've noticed some changes in this person's behaviour and think its good to seek help early but don't wish to hurt or agitate that person by telling him/her to seek psychiatric help. Some of the things mentioned by this person includes; 1) Talking about suicides 2) Referring to suicide articles and saying he/she will do the same 3) Out of the blue saying things like: "Don't push me or I will jump and let you see" 4) Become very emo all of the sudden 5) Look very lost and helpless when alone 6) Starting to depend on everyone for his/her needs as if we should spoonfeed him/her. With those said, its very surprising as this person do not mention all these things at all previously but seems to talk about it every now and then, even when no one agitates him/her. An example is when we went out for dinner. Halfway through the dinner, he/she will say something like: "You all better don't push me to my limits or I will jump". Its really out of the blue when everyone is just eating and not saying anything that will trigger this kind of reaction. Hope to get some advice from all of you on how to persuade or bring this person to seek medical help.
