  1. STOMPer Helmi says this car was one of a group of five cars racing illegally down Orchard Road at 3am on Sep 11. According to him, the driver of the car fled the scene after the accident. The STOMPer wrote: "This accident happened so fast. "It happened outside my werkplace at around 3am on Sep 11. "A total of five cars were racing. The first four manage to pass by but the last didn't. "It hit a lamp post and a tree. The driver was not a responsible man and ran away." http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...#commentSection

  8. http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_808456.html The Straits Times www.straitstimes.comPublished on Jun 8, 2012 CPF Minimum Sum should reflect 'true' inflation THE report ('CPF Minimum Sum to be raised'; May 31) stated that the Government has decided to raise the Central Provident Fund (CPF) Minimum Sum from $131,000 to $139,000 from July, instead of $143,000. The reduction is aimed at cushioning CPF members from the impact of the acute, inflation-driven spike, spreading the balance of $4,000 until the new target date of 2015. When Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang addressed the concerns over rising inflation in Parliament ('When big policies impact the little man in the street'; May 15), he cited big-ticket items like housing rentals and car prices as being responsible for the bulk of inflation. As most Singaporeans own their homes, the issue of rents is irrelevant to citizens, he explained. As for private cars, only a small part of the population buy cars, so the majority of people are also not affected by the high inflation. If these are the reasons for rising inflation, why is the Government applying the full annual inflation rate when adjusting for the increase in the Minimum Sum? Shouldn't the Government moderate the figure downwards - say, to two-thirds the actual inflation rate - to recognise that some major contributors to inflation do not affect most CPF members? 9. Junkies will make all kinds of excuse just to get high. http://www.edvantage.com.sg/edvantage/news...creativity.html SINGAPORE - An Associate Professor from the National University of Singapore, claimed on his personal blog that China should allow its youths to consume hallucinogenic drugs so that they can be creative, reported a local media source. Associate Professor Shi Yuzhi, a Chinese language and linguistics professor from China then said that he was not encouraging the consumption of drugs but merely discussing the idea from an academic standpoint. NUS has since responded that it does not endorse the Department of Chinese Studies
  10. He loved fast cars and owned sports model back in China, say pals By Ho Ai Li, China Correspondent In Beijing Ferrari driver Ma Chi loved fast cars and had told friends he did not intend to stay in Singapore for good as he could find no place to run the supercars. 'The Lion City's too small, with no roads for driving at high speed,' he reportedly told former colleague Zhong Yi in 2009. Friends of Mr Ma told The Beijing News that he liked to drive in the middle of the night as there were few cars on the road. Former colleagues also told the Chinese newspaper that he made his fortune from the stock market. In his native province Sichuan, he owned an Infiniti, a luxury sports car costing at least 400,000 yuan (S$79,600), they said. Sources: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_803741.html

  12. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_800580.html Oil prices down, but pump prices still high Published on May 19, 2012 OIL prices have dropped by an average of 10 per cent since April, but the prices of petrol and diesel, as well as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for home use, have not seen a similar decrease. Meanwhile, major oil companies are posting multibillion-dollar profits for their first quarter this year. I wonder why the Consumers Association of Singapore has been silent about the development. Interestingly, in July 2008 when the Brent crude price was US$147 per barrel, our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.236 per litre before discount. On May 8 this year, the Brent crude price was down to US$111.24 per barrel, while our pump price for Mogas 95 unleaded was $2.17 per litre before discount. What's more, over the past four years, the Singapore dollar has strengthened against the US dollar, from 1.55 to 1.25. So I am baffled as to why consumers here are paying so much more for their LPG, petrol and diesel. David Goh

  15. STOMPer Ree was passing through Clementi when she saw this car which was stuck in an unusual position on a road divider. Said the STOMPer: "I was in my son's car and travelling along Clementi Avenue 6 when we saw this car on the divider. "We didn't see any blood nor casualties around. "The traffic police was already there, and so was a tow-truck."
  16. Hi all, I just did the 60k km servicing and steering was perfectly alright. my new tyres just clocked 8000km. after tyres were balanced and rotated, my steering vibrated although faintly at around 100-110km/hr. i can feel the vibration when i try to change lane at high speed. i balanced my tyre again and all of the were 0-0. any idea what caused the faint vibration?
  17. I think most interested in properties have already read this article. http://www.asiahomepreview.net/2012/02/25/437/ Your opinions on this article? My opinion: I agree that an 'excessive price fall' is unlikely. I'm thinking of 8-10 percent. PAP really don't want the bubble to burst. They want to let it slowly deflate. The article does not account of foreigners leaving. And of all those that came, how many plan on actually buying and staying here for good? Definition of foreigners? PRs only? Or including EP/WP? It is ridiculous to include foreign labourers in his number of foreigners, but maybe he excluded them already?
  18. Man loses $910,000 lottery card suit against Singapore Pools 28 March 2012 Straits Times A man who sued Singapore Pools, demanding prize money of $910,000 on lottery cards he had bought, lost his case in the High Court on Tuesday. Mr John Berchmans had bought 91 Scratchit! cards for a dollar each, and his winnings amounted to $263. But he claimed that he had been misled into buying the cards because he took the words on them to mean that he would automatically win the top prize of $10,000 if he got three identical symbols in a row. The 69-year-old part-time housing agent lost the gamble when the High Court on Tuesday dismissed his misrepresentation suit against the lottery operator and ordered him to pay costs.
  19. Have anyone encounter this problem, when driving at around 90 to 110, it vibrate intermittently, when i release gas and step again , the vibration goes off but will come back again after some km. Could it be the spark plug as the last time I change is over 30k km? Forget to add if I accelerate during the vibration, the car vibrates even more violently, it only stop when I release and step the gas again.

  21. Anyone can share with me where I can get on-car high speed wheel balancing done and at what cost? Preferably around Bukit Batok, Clementi or Bukit Panjang area? My steering tends to vibrate when driving at speeds above 100km/hr; I believe this would solve the problem.
  22. I just saw my workshop mechanic use the high pressure water spray to spray the entire engine and engine bay, including all the components inside. Will this cause any engine bay components, joints, wiring, cables, etc to come dislodged? Will water get into engine block and damage engine? Is high pressure water spray ok for ECU? Will radiator tubes and joints be safe from the high pressure spray? Noob here so please forgive me if the above questions are dumb.
  23. Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Met this Hyundai Avante from yishun going to CTE, with his high beam on the way. It was so bad that even after flipping down my anti-glare rear mirror, his head lights are still super powerful, much more powerful then those big vehicles! really lighting the entire road up. Noticed a young guy behind the wheels after he overtook me. So most likely is forget to turn off. & I wonder, technically speaking, is this consider as road hazard or not.. haha..
  24. Chris' Tea House to stop serving tea because of harassment After being bludgeoned continously into closing down by flamers, Chris' Tea House has decided to stop its tea cafe business for the public on January 18. Mrs Christina Lim, the owner of the controversial restaurant, said the last straw came when she kept receiving "harassment" from an anonymous person calling her mobile phone. She told SoShiok.com that she has made police reports and "hopes the harassment will stop soon". She does not wish to reveal details of the harassment as police investigations are still going on. While it will stop serving tea, the charming tea house at Upper Paya Lebar will continue operating its retail front which offers chinaware, tea and other tea paraphernalia. She added: "I will be keeping the place but still thinking of other business to venture into." The tea house was the target of online flamers after her daughter called a customer "cheapskate" for making unreasonable demands and comments when he didn't spend a lot of money there, and for not understanding the practice of a "highclass" tea house. Those remarks irked the customer's supporters who gave her and her mother a relentless bashing on a few websites. Even though her daughter apologised subsequently for her remarks and Mrs Lim had explained her position on customer service and restaurant rules, online flamers continued to attack them. Some even called for a boycott of the tea house. But the tea house also had its supporters who slammed the flamers online, arguing that they should have proper etiquette when visiting the place. Actually Mrs Lim had no intention of opening her tea house to the public initially. She had bought the shophouse as an investment, and turned her tea appreciation hobby into a masssive project - a period English tea house decorated with matching furniture like wing chairs, fine porcelain and colourful tea paraphernalia. Friends fell in love with it too and suggested she opened it to the public. She followed their suggestion and also offered companies the use of the tea house as an event venue at a fee. But she also found out quite soon that it wasn't a viable business what with the small size of the place and its cheap pricing. She had told SoShiok.com that she could have kept it as a hobby and continue living a comfortable life instead of working hard to run it as a business and having to face the barrage of unkind remarks by flamers. Mrs Lim said she would keep the tea house to entertain her 'regulars', friends and associates. So it will be closed to the public, but open to her best supporters! Link
