  2. Hi guys, I tried to search for this kind of information, but there are very few. Just wondering if this is possible? Because I know home woofers are at 8 ohms while car ones are at 4 ohms. What will happen if we hook up the home woofer in the car? This is a passive unit. So will run with an amp. Rating is 100W. My amp is rated 200W. Please advice if this is feasible? Thanks. Sorry for the newbie questions.
  3. Anyone knows where can buy solar film off-the-shelf, similar properties to those used in car? I wanna DIY for my home windows. Max heat rejection + min. visible light blockage. NOT going for the branded ones like 3M and Sun-X, too ex for me. i only know of a few Homefix DIY outlets having Nanolux, but size is a bit odd for my purpose, also not cheap leh... So far i asked those car installers, they mostly interested in selling car installation. In case any dealers reading here, pls quote me for 4 pcs 56" X 24", 2 pcs 56" X 21".
  4. Was just wondering if anyone here ever put home speaker into the car and use it as car speaker or vice vesa? I notice that the ohm and max watt output is the same on a 5" speaker of a home theatre system and thought of trying it out in the car. Also, thought of plugging the woofer from the car into the home hi-fi. Will there be any side effects or explosion? Eva
  5. Remember there were guys in van drive up and apporach you with cheap home theatre systems years ago. These guys are back in Upper Serangoon (maybe Hougang area as well)looking for victims. I have been appporach recently but have just politely rejected them. Please beware of these con and I should have reported to the police. Anyway to all out there please do not fall into the trap. Beware.
  6. i ordered a new car battery, delivered within 30 minutes around midnite... the guy even tested the amp reading to check if my alternator's working fine after putting in the new battery!!! Not selling. dun worry...." immediately i gave him a stern look and shook my hand off him. LL, he drove off. and the van went to the upper levels of the MSCP, searching for their next victim. plate no. GV 47*9. its a Mercs van. got 2 fellas inside..... this time, these 2 fellas seem to be wearing some kind of polo-T uniform! Wow, now they come out with company polo-t uniform ar? want to look more authentic! same polo-t design and same baseball cap.... like DHL or UPS guys! so beware of them!! this is my forth encounter with them already.....! i forgot to add.... i stay in Toa Payoh estate.....

  11. Hi all, i've a set of car amp and subwoofer which i don't intend to install in my car. so i'm thinking of using them to enhance my mini-hifi's sound effects. my questions is the amp needs 12VDC. i can put a transformer to step down from 240VAC to 12VDC, but what is the current to supply? AFAIK, transformers have a power rating...and P=VI.
  12. Anyone using stepdown voltage transformer to step the 230v AC supply to 12V DC supply to power Car audio system at home? How to calculate how many amphere max required for the power supply. I am using a 30A main fuse for my ICE in my car. If I shift it to home, I will need a power supply of 30A max also. But I feel mine is a overkill for a 30A on my main fuse in my car ICE. I suspect 20A is sufficient. I have a 1300w max monoblock subwoofer Class D amp powering my single coil 4 ohm subwoofer 300w rms 650w max at 350w rms at 4Ohm. So is it combination consuming 350w or 1300w? Should be 350w only right? I also have a Z4000 Cadence amp with 4 X 75w rms powering my front 50w rms, 120w max MB Quart component speaker actively. It should be consuming 4 X 75 = 250w in total right? I also have a Alpine 9855 HU and Cadence CEQ770 pre-amp which the power consumption should be neligible. And a 1F Stinger capacitors which should be helpful. If considering 30A power supply needed, I saw a 30A 12V DC supply selling $300+ at sim lim tower. Was thinking whether there is other alternative such as using multiple power supply or transformer for each amp. Or in fact I dont need 30A max power supply. Calculating the rms power in total in my car, I should have abt 600w + HU and preamp's power consumption, should be abt 700 or max 800w. If 12v, P = VI, I = P/V = 800/12 = 66A. Doesnt make sense how come I am using only 30A fuse and the duse doesnt blow in my car. I suspect it is way below 30A. Let's say total is 800w, round up to 1000w for play safe. Using 230v power supply, the current should be 1000/230 = 4+A. But I dont think I should calculate this way right? Since it should be on a 12V DC supply even when its at home. It should still be 1000/12 = 83.3A right? Cannot be....if so much current, confirm my 30A fuse should have already blown in my car. Whats the correct way to calculate the main fuse needed in the car and whats the power supply needed at my home? Anyone with strong electrical background care to teach me?

  18. Hi guys Posting this for a friend. Hi-Fi enthusiast do listen up 8) My friend's company Audio Trio PTE LTD is bringing in Odyssey Audio products from USA. This brand is well known in US for their value-for-money but high quality amplifiers and pre-amps. Their amps and preamps are designed in Germany and built in US. Odyssey Audio amplifiers are well known to be able to drive difficult loads (think Martin Logans). They are an excellent choice for people who are making the transition into the Hi-End Hi-Fi market. You can check out the website at www.odysseyaudiosg.com The showroom is located at the NTUC Income Beach Junction (opp shaw towers). You can check out the webby for more details. 8)
  19. Hi, Seems that I could not clear a unit of Pioneer DEH7550 wif 6-disc changer. I was thinking whether I can convert it for home use. I posted in Delphi ICE forum before, but somehow lost the thread. Can someone help by directing me to any URL which shows me what are the things I required and how-to do it? I vaguely rememnbered a power supply is required. Tks in advance.
  20. Where to get it & How much: I was looking around for paint at Discount Auto Parts. Started looking at Plastikote paint cans for some Honda black paint. Found that , then found in the heat paint section. Anodizit paint by Plastikote. It had a single base aluminum coat and you could choose between blue or red top clear coat. So you get your base and clear cans. Each can costs 3.99 , very cheap and the can is of adequate size. You can also find Plastikote ANODIZIT products at Pep Boys, Carquest, Advance Auto parts & Discount Auto Parts stores in your area. I went with blue for the top clear coat. Then went home and got to work. -- You first want to remove your wheel. Of course. Then you want to get some sand paper. 200grit works well. And basically clean the surface of the caliper. I basically also smoothed a few of the main areas on the direct side. The area you will see most through the rim. The rest I let stay porous looking. The sanding might take 20-30 minutes per caliper , so get ready to get down and dirty. All depending on how much work you want to do. You can continue to smooth the caliper with higher grit sand paper. 500 should be good enough. Next get the sand and dust off the caliper , a quick blow on it , pressured air.....or vaccum will work....Watch the eyes when blowing and do not breath it in....just blow , run and dont breath for a second , stuff goes everywhere. You should then have a nice clean and silver caliper. You can also use just about any method of cleaning. Just be sure your not using any sort of degreaser that would get on the brake rotor. Wire brush might be the most effective and easiest method for cleaning. You can substitue that for the sanding. The sanding just helps smooth things out though for a better painting surface....at the same time it also cleans off caked on dirt pretty well. Then you get a rag , get some alcohol soaked into it and clean the rest of the sand , grit & dirt off the caliper. This will prep and clean the surface of contaiminents and will also help the paint stick. Make sure that the words / indentions have nothing in them and are clean , so they will still show through when painted. Step1: Finished sanding and cleaning. Once your done with that , you should get a crappy towel and wrap it around your rotor. Its actually very easy. Just grab the middle , place that along the side , then wrap around. Make sure no rotor is showing and the caliper is fully showing. Now your ready to spray. Make a very light first spray of the aluminum base coat. You should notice it looks a lot cleaner now. Another nice light coat , and possibly a third final coat and touch up any spots that you missed. Make sure to hit at a few angles and let dry in between each spraying. Step 2: Base aluminum coat added. Now you simply get the blue , and make another light coat at first and let dry. You can choose how thick to go. It looks pretty good with 2 nice coats. Nothing thick or it gets real blue and deep looking , it will also sort of take away from the silver fleck. But still looks awesome so go with what you like. If you want a deep look , just add more coats Step 3: Final Coat applied & Fully Dry This is by far the best stuff I have ever used on brake calipers. Its meant to withstand heat upto 500 degrees. So you can use this on other hot things , like valve covers and who knows what else you can think up. The shine and depth is awesome. Its cheap and easy.....I also hit a little spot on the front of my rotor in the center (looks like a bolt) that shows through with the rims I have. Ill have to show that later Step 4: Rims on and ready to go. Notice the center

  24. Has anyone tried using a car amp for home audio? Or are they mutually exclusive? Just interested to know.
  25. Hi ppl, Hope it's alright to post some questions on Home Theatre System instead of Car theatre System? Recently, I'm quite amazed at how a good audio system can make you feel as if you were in it (ie, in a concert or in a movie itself). For some of the supposedly good audio systems, all the audio reproduction are so realistic....and it just makes me want to buy them , but there's too many choices to make and budget/space constraints..... So, I would like to seek some advise from MCF members or people who knows about such Home Theatre System. For a start, it's for my new 5 room flat. The TV area is a bit small, so I'm only looking at satellite systems. And I have already run 2 thick (but not sure if good) audio cables (silver/copper) from the front thru the top false ceiling to the rear. When I went to Courts, Harvey Norman or Best Denki, I think the best satellite speakers they offer is the 3in1 (DVD, receiver, Amp) JBL system (forgot exact model no.) for $1399. I know that buying separate machines for specific purpose may be better (ie 1 yamaha amp, + 1 panasonic DVD player). Unfortunately, this is where my budget constraint comes in. For those separate components, it's very much more expensive. Furthermore, I may also run into "Combination problems" as mentioned in other earlier recent threads. During the DEMO, I've tried many other audio system. (ie pioneer, panasonic, and jbl of course). With the same DVD or CD, it seems that JBL is obviously the better one. Although the price is $300 more, but it seems like a good buy. But the down side to it is that, for this JBL satellite speakers, it comes with their own proprietary cables which I don't really like. Coz 1) The JBL cable is quite long, (maybe 15-20m? for each rear speaker). But what if it's not enough? Then I need to cut, and join with other cables which I don't think is a good idea. 2) I've already run in a thick audio cable into my false ceiling and not using it seems to be a waste. (but I can use it to pull in the JBL cable by taping the JBL cable to my exisiting cable on 1 end and pull through). Infact, only this JBL satellite speakers comes with a proprietary cable. Other brands or other models of JBL seems to be using normal speaker cables. Any comments on this model if it's good or what should be the ideal way for me to do the cabling. Thanks kianbeng
