  1. I rented a 2002 Spectra saloon 1.6A over 4 days, and managed only between 8.5 - 9km/l, using Mobil 92RON (min RON required is 91RON) RPM was kept below 3000rpm, 70/30 highway/city driving. The car's mileage was 42,600km, and was last serviced at 38,000km. Is such high fuel consumption normal for the Kia Spectra? And I found the acceleration for its 16 valve Mazda engine rather sluggish & engine note very coarse too, compared to my 11 yr old Vitara 1.6A, 8 valve, 3 speed auto. No offence to Spectra owners, but your views are appreciated.
  2. Just saw some net news that they will be introducing their all new design model next year called 2006 ... which would you buy ? 1) Hyundai Sonata - Newly design engine (NF) and more sexy look (some spy shots) 2) Going to be same platform as the new Sonata but cheaper I think 3) This one with a new L6 engine ... hmmm ... interesting.
  3. http://news.com.au/common/story_page/0,405...55E1702,00.html Kia recalls Rio cars August 3, 2004 KOREAN car maker Kia has recalled about 27,000 Rio cars to fix a fuel line fault that could result in an engine fire. The company said there was a possibility that the fuel distribution rail might crack in some vehicles, resulting in a fuel leak. "While there have not been any reported cases in Australia, the worst case scenario is it may cause a fire in the engine compartment," the company said. Kia said as the fuel distribution rail and the fuel hose would be replaced as a precaution. The vehicles affected included the Rio sedan and hatch models with both manual and automatic transmissions and manufactured between May 26, 2000, and March 26, 2004. Kia said an inspection and replacement program would start today and all owners would be contacted. Anyone with any word about Kia Singapore?

  6. Saw a silver Picanto recently at penjuru lane. Look not bad but wonder hows the report for the actual field report of this car.
  7. Hi, is anyone keen on the above? My bro has a spare and price is negotiable. No installation provided. Just the templates. PM me please if keen.
  8. anyone test drive this cute little devil before? http://www.kia-picanto.com/ so cute.
  9. At $50,999 for the manual and $52,000 for auto, I think the Kia management is making a very wrong move. In contrast, Perodua Kelisa price has been reduced to $49,800. At such prices, I'd rather choose the tested & proven Kelisa for peace of mind.
  10. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That's the Kia Picanto I'm referring to. It makes me wonder how one will know that the engine temp is boiling or hitting the red line. I was told that this is is a basic model, hence no temp guage, but I felt that a temp gauge is the basic of most basic necessities. If there's no tacometer (rpm meter), it's still acceptable. Anyway, I had a test drive of the Picanto 1.1 manual this afternoon, and it was surprisingly spacious. Pick up was fairly good and steady. Overall ride was more refined compared to the Perodua Kelisa 1.0. The engine was surprisingly refined (for a 1.1l) when I revved it to redline on first gear. It hit 40km/h. The salesman said that this launch price will be raised to S$54,999 soon. But I think this is a C.O.C.K. and bull story. With the Kia Rio 1.3 manual selling for only S$54,000, the Picanto will die an overnight death if the price is raised by S$5,000. Surprisingly, I even saw old maried couples in their 50s booking this car. The Picanto's closest competitors are the Perodua Kelisa 1.0 (S$52,900) & Proton Wira 1.3 (S$52,800). For the young & trendy, the Picanto may be the car, but if you want a Japanese engine with that mini look, then the Kelisa may fit the bill. For the ultimate in space in passenger compartment & boot, with the UUMPH when you need it & the trustworthy Mitsubishi engine, the Wira got to be the one. Not an easy decision. For me, my heart & the child in me says "Get the Picanto", but my mind says "Nothing but the Wira." KIA PICANTO manual PROS 1. Spacious 2. Pretty refined engine 3. Rear seats fold down completely 4. High sitting position (similar to G9 Corolla or Matrix) 5. Big and comfortable seats 6. Spacious headroom 7. Economical (as claimed by the salesman - 16km/l) 8. Front power windows 9. Single disk Kenwood sound system 10. Nice Body colour interior door handles (but may be scratched easily if you wear a ring) 11. 3 year, 100,000km warranty 12. Low annual depreciation of S$4,600 per annum (straight line depreciation) CONS 1. Cramped rear leg space if driver is tall 2. No temperature gauge 3. No mudguard 4. Air-con so so... and robs this mini of pick up power 5. Seat fabric material may not last 6. Skinny 155/70R13 tyres. No upgrades available. 7. Poor resale value (as for all Kia cars) 8. Low OMV of S$7,000 (Scrap value 55% of OMV - S$3,850)
  11. Went to Compass Point and saw that Kia is having a roadshow there. Heard it's there since Monday. On display are 2 new models, the 1l Picanto and 3.5l V6 Sorento. The Picanto is going for like $200+ per month for 10 yrs, and Sorento, $600+ per month for 10 yrs. The Sorento is such a huge monster, one will need to stand on chairs just to clean the roof. With such affordable price, I see a lot of interested folks surrounding the Picanto. I din bother to get the price list cos' not interested in them. Are there any catch to the prices? Sounds too good to believe.
  12. any Carnivals here?

  15. Hi all, i am selling away my 02 Rio this month. Cos i dun know the market too well, so would like to have some opinion on how much my car will fetch if i sell to a dealer. My car is of the old 130% omv scheme and of high coe, so the paper value is quite high. Thks for any input. Daniel
  16. I'm looking at possibility of buying a Kia Spectra. I'm attracted by the fact that it's the lowest downpayment required for a new car. Can experience Kia owners share their thoughts? I heard of ppl saying that after 3 yrs, problems will surface for the new car. Can anyone verify on this? Wat's the pros and cons?
  17. Hi there, 1. If given a choice would you go for a brand new Carens or a 2 years old Honda stream? Assuming both have about the same value. 2. I guess, Carens is probably the cheapest 7 seater MPV around. Of course, there is also a 1.3L 7 seater MPV from Daihatsu that is around 70k, brand new. 3. Anyone currently driving a Caren? any objective comments? Thank you. Regards.
  18. I m owning a kia spectra. The fuel consumption sometime 8km/l and sometime can able to hit 9km/l. I find that the car performence is not constant as sometime it pick up speed is very slow... Can someone tell me any way to increase my car power and in the same time help to save fuel. thanks.
  19. Just want to share with all members here, KIA is coming up a new KIA Spectra or they will called it Cerato instead of Spectra. Kia Cerato

The new Cerato saloon from Kia (aka the replacement for the Sephia/Mentor). Wonder when it will be introduced to our local market. Btw, the rear looks similar to that of the new Subaru Legacy...... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kia Cerato Cover up the badges and what does this four-door saloon look like to you? We think there's more than a hint of executive car about the styling, yet this Kia will cost less than
  21. Thinking of getting one of the above Is it true that for new cars... can only take loan for up to 70% of the selling price? Compulsory to pay immediate 30% downpayment? cannot take full loan for 10 years?
  22. Hi folks, I am a first time owner and therefore looking for a budget car. There are not many and Kia Spectra happens to be one of the few to fall into my category. What do you think of this car? I know there are a few threads on Kia Spectra that I have went through but still would like some comments if you do not find it too troublesome. 1. I know that Kia cars' fuel consumption are pretty high compared to other vehicles in the same class of 1.6L cars. How true or wrong am I? I read in the other threads, there is one who quote 8/9L per km, another quoted 10/11L per km. I asked a friend who drives a 1.5L Honda Civic, she's an insurance agent who drives around alot and her monthly petrol consumption accumulates to about $400. How can we do a comparison with these two cars? 2. Kia cars' repairwork easily done in Singapore? 3. Should the fuel consumption be a little higher, what parts can be used to regulate the fuel consumption with minimum effect on the overall output? I also read about the air filter which may cut down on fuel consumption. How does this works? I was told there are equipments like fuel injection regulators, how do all these works then? How significant does it cut down on petrol consumption without affecting too much power or increasing the power of the car? 4. Kia cars' engine are generally noiser? 5. For a first time owner, is this a suitable car for a new driver? I know cars like Toyota Soluna or Honda Civic comes with very basic specs which makes things very easy for new drivers. I know there are hidden costs involved as I have read and advices from friends over past one year and not forgetting my driving instructor. So spare me on the costs issue ... Regards, Ed
