  1. I signed a sales agreement to purchase a Carens on 24th February 2018 at KIA Fulco Ubi. It was a display model and I received a generous $2000 discount for it. It was a July 2017 model, so I reckoned that it has been in the showroom for at least 8 months already. The next day, I went to KIA Alexandra to view the car. The car is full of stickers but I didn’t mind since the $2000 discount was generous. Before signing the agreement, the salesperson assured me once COE is secured they will remove the car from the showroom immediately. He claimed the registration process would be faster if I buy this display car since the car is already in the showroom. Sounded good to me. COE was secured more than 2 weeks ago on the 21st of March 2018. After being told that the COE was secured, I informed him that I hoped to get the car within 7-10 days. He told me that it is not possible as KIA was flooded with a lot of new registrations. He said he could deliver the car on 10th April at the earliest. The disappointing thing was that there had been no updates from the salesperson since 21st March. Since there is a lack of update and it’s already 7th April, I decided to take a trip to KIA Alexandra this morning to see if the car is still in the showroom. To my surprise, I saw the car still displayed in the showroom! Now, the car has more stickers than usual and has a lot of unsightly marks from previous stickers. Also, for the whole duration I was there, the lights were switched on. Sigh, God knows what will happen to the battery. I informed the salesperson of my disappointment. I told him that he had promised me that the car will be out of the showroom once COE is secured but the car is still there! It seems to me that they were intentionally delaying to deliver the car because they want to continue to use it as a display model. Looking at the state of the car now, it seemed to be in a more “abused” condition than when I saw the car on the 25th February. I wished I was informed about this issue earlier. Personally, with my dealings with businesses, I try to be understanding as much as possible. To be honest, I won’t mind if the car is still on display for one extra weekend since I understand that they need some time to get a replacement car.....but putting the car on display for another 3 extra weekends without telling me is just unethical. I think they were simply taking their chances that I would never find out. I am very disappointed that an AD is capable of lying and deceiving a customer like that. I was hoping for a small and kind compensation since my car was unnecessarily “abused” for a further unnecessary 3 weeks but their response was just a “sorry, we will take out your car from the showroom after this weekend. You should know that you are buying a display car. If you want a new car, get a new car.” Such an amazing response. I wish to seek advice if there are any recourse I could take. For one, I can go to CASE to lodge a formal complaint. Also, is it possible for me to get back my deposit if I refuse to buy the car in its current state? I understand that the TCOE will expire in 6 months. Hope you can offer me some advice. :)
  2. A post about a customer who refused to pay after a battery replacement workshop rendered its services has gone viral online. Spotted on its own facebook page, FastFix Car Battery Replacement Service explained how the whole issue came about. It wrote in its post that its client, Mr C, reached out to them saying that he needed help as his car could not start. After listening to the symptoms the car showed( car still cranks and aircon is not as strong as before), the workshop concluded that it needed a new battery. However, upon reaching Mr C, whose car was parked in the CBD and hence the need to pay for ERP charges, the guys from FastFix realised that it wasn't the battery that needed replacing. Concluding that there was nothing the guys from FastFix could do to help, Mr C was then asked to pay for the labour fee that had been pointed out before in their Whatsapp conversation. Unfortunately, Mr C disagreed and refused to pay the $50 that they had agreed on as nothing has been done to his Kia. There was not much FastFix could do which probably prompted them to 'share their story' of the client on their facebook page. Here are some of the notable comment in the post.
  3. Hi, I am a new Kia Sorento 2013 owner, 2.2 CRDi model, silver. Formerly driving a Skoda Superb I for the past 7 years, built like a tank, fuel economical and powerful with 1.8T under the hood. Wanted a SUV all along and finally chose the KIA Sorento 2013 model in Singapore due to several reasons. Good: 1. Korean built has improved tremendously, quality and class. 2. Award winning diesel engine. - 436NM Torque, 194HP, Eco-friendly and if you are like me, someone who drives a lot, it is cost savings back to you. 3. Features, FEAtures, FEATURES!! - Tons of it, Bluetooth, Cruise Control, HID, AWD, Park Assist (found in VW range, includes, Skoda, Audi and VW cars), Dual Climate Zone, Reverse Camera, Moon Roof, plus Sunroof...19" wheels...etc. 4. Design - base on the individual, but I really like the design. Former Audi chief designer. What can be improved: 1. Hard plastics - dashboard. This can be improved. 2. Northing else. In summary hope to say hello to fellow KIA folks and a shout out to other Sorento owners out there. Cheers! PS: My first Korean car!
  4. I'm looking to improve the audio of my car and looking at a DSP/Amp and/or speakers. Would it make senses to do the DSP/Amp first and see if it's sufficient ? Or should I just change the speakers first ? Does the shop normally charge to retune the DSP if you get the speakers elsewhere? Should this be something you can do yourself ?
  5. hi, have a problem today. hope you guys know what it is. kia forte 1.6sx of 5 years and 4 months old, 77Kkm mileage. Today the car jerks at idle at red light, and i can see that RPM slight jumps up and down, like 400rpm - 700rpm. Usually it is idle at 400rpm without up and down. The jerk is about every 4 seconds, not constant jerking. can feel the car tremble. When i press the throttle to accelerate during travelling, the car will jerk again, and does not accelerate instantly as normal. after a while it accelerates to a higher cruising speed, then it's OK again. During jerking, the engine light flashes like 10 times. when the jerk stops, engine light becomes off again. I just changed engine oil and engine filter 2 months ago. Is this worn spark plugs, or ATF due to change (coz it's been a while), or both, or something else? Thanks.
  6. Anyone installed SUV side steps? Besides for the elderly any other advantage? Does it protect your car when neighbour opening and hit into yours? What else to consider? Truly Maintenance free? Cost? Where to install in Singapore? Anything to share
  7. Kia Motors U.K. has decided to save a pre-production homologation Stinger GT S from the scrapyard and turned it into a 422bhp 'track day monster' instead. So why did the company decide to save this particular unit? As it turns out, this was actual car used for final testing and tuning in the U.K., as well as being a press car that appeared in many U.K. car magazines and TV shows such as Top Gear and The Grand Tour. Impressed by the car’s pedigree and the fact that it had clocked up an impressive (for a homologation vehicle) 16,093 km, Kia UK decided to turn it into a track car. With the help of Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre, they worked on the Stinger420's 3.3-litre turbocharged V6 by adding HKS M45il spark plugs for enhanced combustion, a K&N sports air filter, and a lightweight Milltek Sport quad-exit exhaust system with catalysts deleted and so on. It power output now stands at 422bhp and 560Nm of torque, up from 365bhp and 510Nm. Drivetrain wise, the gearbox was also treated with a six-row cooler in place of a four-row item to prevent overheating on the track. Additionally, the gearbox software was recalibrated to provide quicker shifting characteristic in Sport and Sport+ modes. Being a track car also meant that all unnecessary weight-adding stuff thrown out of the car including the seats and belts, airbags, sound system, interior trim, and rear window regulators, engine cover, undercovers, parking sensors, boot and bonnet dampers, and rear bumper beam and foam were also taken out. Adding on, the rear windows were glued into place and lightweight door cards were installed. After the sunroof was removed and replaced by a steel panel, the total weight savings amounted to 150kg. The savings does include the installation of the roll cage, Sparco race seats, belts, fire extinguisher, and underbody stiffening. Handling wise, the guys Eibach Pro lowering springs and anti-roll bars, wider OZ Racing Leggera rims shod with Pirelli Trofeo R tires (235/35/R19 at the front and 265/30/R19 at the rear), and uprated Brembo front brakes. Lastly, to make it look faster, a Stillen front splitter and rear diffuser plus a rear spoiler by Air Design was installed.

  11. JD Power Says Korean Cars Beat US and Europe in Quality! Sources: https://www.wired.com/story/jd-power-korean-cars-beat-us-europe-quality/ Ask the average car buyer who makes the most reliable vehicles, and they’ll likely start with Japanese automakers, followed by the Germans and the Americans, and ending with the Koreans. Going by the results of this year’s JD Power Initial Quality Survey, though, that’s all wrong. “It’s almost the complete reverse,” says Dave Sargent, who oversees Power's vehicle quality research. The change in fortunes rides largely on how automakers have handled two big technological trends: proliferating infotainment screens and advanced driver assistance features. The ranking, based on the number of problems owners of new vehicles report in the first three months, puts Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, in the number one spot, with 63 problems per 100 vehicles. Kia and Hyundai are right behind, making for an all-Korean top three. The next three slots go to the Americans—Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet—with Lexus and Toyota after them. All these brands score better than the industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles. Below that bar, you’ll find the Europeans, including Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volvo, and Volkswagen. In the bottom two spots are Land Rover and Jaguar. A spokesman for those two brands, both owned by India’s Tata Motors, said that the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto has reduced complaints around infotainment issues, and that it's working to improve those scores. A Mercedes-Benz representative notes that this JD Power survey "doesn’t reflect the total ownership experience," but that it's helpful for "finetuning" its work. The results don’t surprise Sargent. “This is not a one-year phenomenon,” he says. The Korean automakers have consistently improved their cars’ quality in recent years, especially around the infotainment systems that offer a combination of navigation, music, and voice calling features. The Korean manufacturers offer relatively simple systems that do the basics well, even if they skimp on next-generation ideas like gesture controls. That matches Consumer Reports’ most recent infotainment system ranking, which listed Genesis, Hyundai, and Kia among its favorites. It gave the top score to Tesla, which JD Power doesn’t include in its rankings, due to a lack of data. The “problems” that consumers report tend to fall into two buckets. Some are defects that affect individual cars, like a headlamp that goes out. Others are related to the design of a vehicle, like a hard-to-use voice recognition system for doing things like placing calls and set navigation destinations. Today’s cars have far fewer defects than their predecessors did a decade ago, Sargent says, and mass manufacturers match the luxury brands on that count. So drivers are more focused on the things that bug them about their vehicles. That exposes the luxury automakers to criticism, Sargent says, because they offer more features that may not work perfectly or be easy to understand. This year’s survey found a small increase in what Sargent calls “traditional problems” like bad paint jobs and brake and suspension noises. That may be because, as car sales have slowed, vehicles are spending more time in the elements before going home with a customer—an effect known as “lot rot.” While infotainment systems are responsible for more problems than any other category, they’re also where automakers made the biggest overall improvement since 2018. Industry-wide, the survey says, the systems are getting less glitchy and easier to use. The new bad boy looks to be driver assistance systems, which for JD Power includes things like basic cruise control, lane departure warnings, and “semiautonomous” systems like Cadillac Super Cruise. As these features become more prevalent, more consumers are having trouble understanding how they work, or criticizing when they do and don’t intervene. And yes, studies show that drivers in the US and Europe often overestimate what their “semiautonomous” cars can do—setting them up for disappointment. Overall, Sargent says, the encouraging thing is just how reliable new cars are these days. The 2019 industry average of 93 problems per 100 vehicles represents a 14 percent drop over the 2009 figure. Volvo, he notes, is in 28th place, out of 32. “I drive a Volvo,” he says. “I love it.”
  12. Dear friends at this forum.... this is my first post in this forum and hope to join you guys/gals for a good time! Got my Kia Carens last week. All was fine except some disappointment about the auto trans and the fuel consumption! The auto trans gear shift seems so stiff and plunge to higher gear lower rev so fast that the car could sustain the necessary torque to go (especially uphill....) The fuel consumption was also horrible, even after I add in the compensation for the differences in the size of the tyres... I am get so little km/litre that I am so embarassed to post! The specs says about 10-11 ... I understand that new cars needs run-in but I don't that it is so bad... if any can help me on these questions, I would be most appreciative! Cheers COSX

  14. Since the demise of the local-produced Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons, Australian police departments have been searching for alternatives. So for the policemen working in Australia’s Northern Territory, they opted to go with Kia’s high-performance sedan, the Stinger. Serving as a replacement to the Commodore SS models previously used by the highway patrol fleet, these cars will be powered by the twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 engine that delivers 365bhp. According to Australian publication News, reported that the Stinger passed trials in the outback and was able to operate at reasonably high speeds “in temperatures of 45 degrees without missing a beat.” Meanwhile, other states like Victoria for example, opted for the BMW 530d, which costs well over twice as much as the Stinger while South Australia backed the Europe-sourced ZB Commodore.

  21. Hi all, I bought a second hand Kia Cerato V2 manual transmission about a year ago. Generally very satisfied with the car however whenever the car is stucked in a heavy jam under hot sun, i tend to experience the clutch pedal to be gradually harder and harder to be depressed ( to a point it feels like racing clutch). However after i cleared the jam and travelled for about 15mins the clutch feel will be back to normal. Wondering if any other bros experienced such issues before. My previous kelisa and vios manual transmission did not experience such issues before. Looking forward to kind inputs and suggestions. Cheers.
