  2. Ho Say Liao Transport Minister S Iswaran assisting in CPIB investigation, on leave of absence until probe completed https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/iswaran-cpib-assist-investigations-ongoing-pm-lee-3622586 SINGAPORE: Transport Minister S Iswaran is assisting the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) with an investigation into a case uncovered by the agency. The bureau did not elaborate on the nature of the investigation in its statement on Wednesday (Jul 12). "CPIB acknowledges the interest by members of the public in this case because a minister is being interviewed by CPIB. As investigations are ongoing, CPIB is unable to provide further details." The agency said it will investigate this case "thoroughly with strong resolve to establish the facts and the truth, and to uphold the rule of law". Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said in a separate statement that he was briefed by the director of CPIB last Wednesday regarding a case that the bureau had uncovered. The director, Mr Denis Tang, had sought Mr Lee’s concurrence to open a formal investigation. “This would involve interviewing minister S Iswaran, among others,” said the Prime Minister. “I gave Director CPIB my concurrence on Jul 6, following which the formal investigation began on Jul 11." Mr Lee said he has instructed Mr Iswaran to take a leave of absence until the investigation is completed. In his absence, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will be Acting Minister for Transport. In its statement, CPIB also said Singapore has a "strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption". It investigates all cases without fear or favour and will not hesitate to take action against any parties involved in corrupt activities, it said.
  3. I wonder how the finance department approve the budget for such lucky draw prizes. If the winner is a senior management (say CEO, COO, CFO, etc.), the amount is huge enough to full cash a property, but on the other end of the spectrum, if say a production worker, technician, clerk, etc. wins the prize, the payout is barely enough to buy a car (even in China). Me? The amount is still lesser the cost of current cat A COE, how pathetic is my pay.😭 Source: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/employee-at-chinese-company-wins-365-days-of-paid-leave-at-annual-dinner Too good to be true? An employee of an unnamed firm in Shenzhen, China, was the envy of a nation when he won a year’s worth of paid leave at his company’s annual dinner on Sunday. The man, who reportedly holds a managerial position in his firm, was seen in a viral video holding a big cheque with the words “365 days of paid leave” emblazoned on it. An administrative employee at the company, identified as Ms Chen, can be heard in the video explaining that the winner had sought to clarify repeatedly if the prize was real. Even the boss was “stunned” someone had won the prize, she said. The company’s annual dinner had not been held for three years due to the pandemic, according to Chinese media, and a lucky draw was held this time round to provide its employees some relief from work stress. Ms Chen added that the company will discuss with the winner if he would prefer to encash or enjoy his paid leave. Local media reported that the man often travels as part of his job responsibilities. Reports of the large prize have raised envy among Chinese netizens, with some inquiring tongue-in-cheek about vacancies at the company. But the unusual nature of the prize left others discussing its practicality. One commenter on Douyin, TikTok’s sister app in China, said: “Dare he accept the prize? After a year, he might return to find someone else in his role.” It was not the first time a Chinese company has offered a year of paid leave as a lucky draw grand prize. In January 2022, a sales employee from another company, also in Shenzhen, similarly struck the jackpot of 365 days of paid leave. The employee ended up converting a portion of his award into cash and also donated part of it to local charities, Chinese media reported.

  9. https://www.businessinsider.sg/singapore-has-the-worlds-worst-annual-leave-and-it-could-actually-be-shortening-peoples-lives/?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#Echobox=1535970560 Singaporeans have the world’s least holiday leave, which researchers say could be lowing citizens’ life expectancy. Pixabay If you’ve ever felt you’re practically working till you die, you might be right – according to science. A recent research report from online home rental company Spotahome ranked 89 global cities by key health factors such as life expectancy, work life balance, and days of annual leave. And while Singapore came out as the city with the world’s second highest life expectancy, researchers explained that it lost the top spot to Tokyo solely because of its poor annual leave numbers. The country came in dead last out of 89 cities for vacation leave, meaning people from every other city – including Hong Kong, New York and Seoul – had more vacation days on average. While statistics were generally taken from the UBS Global Cities Ranking 2018, a spokesman explained to Business Insider that Spotahome used Singapore’s state-mandated 7 days minimum annual leave as its data point. The researchers acknowledged that Singaporeans get between 7 to 14 days annual leave – depending on an employee’s years of experience – but this number was still “low compared to other countries” and could have a “negative impact on overall life expectancy”. The highest scorer for annual leave was the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh, with 37 vacation days.
  10. My experience in past 2 days where one of the day i forgot to bring my wallet out. Day 1 - with wallet but never get to use cash - Went to the physio at NUH, after the session i went to make payment, counter nurse told me 'cashless please'. - Going to watch movie with wife, so i make booking via phone apps and pay through Masterpass. - Took a grab to orchard. - Still have an hour to kill while waiting for wife, went to a cafe for coffee, place order and took out cash, the staff point to the signboard 'cashless payment ONLY'. Day 2 - without wallet (i left it in my wife's bag when we were watching movie) - Didn't notice i dun have my wallet until i reach office bus stop, my ezlink card was behind my phone try to act like i have a NFC sim card . - Panic for 2min thinking how to survive for the day, walk into Starbucks which i have the Starbucks app in my phone, breakfast settled. - Come lunch time, dun want to eat Starbucks again, heng i stored a credit card in Samsung Pay. walk to Hans and pay through Samsung Pay. - Dinner time met up with wife, went into a Korean cafe and they told us to scan the QR code on the table where you place order to making payment all via the phone!!?? i input my card number detail (i actually have those info in my phone but each info was hide in different apps). So i manage to survive 2 days without cash (wallet) for medical, transport, meals, movie, and shopping and thank god my phone battery can last whole day

  13. Have you guys reach a point where sometimes u feel taking leave is wasting your life away? More for people who has family (kids) where your life evolves around them. When you take leave and your wife did not take and you have to clear leave. Your good friends all have their own families and work so it's really yourself on your leave days. Pretty depressing... Rotting away at home and not travelling.
  14. hmmm...small lesion in the liver! Hope not sth serious and just a nodal cyst
  15. Dear forumers, I am planning to resign from my current company soon. I intend to offset my earned leave (30 days) to offset against my notice period of one month. This is allowed under MOM's rules; however, I don't get paid for my leave, and I can immediately start work with my new employer on the next day. I have sought advice from many friends; some say serve your notice, some say use your leave to offset. I have a very tense relationship with my manager and I don't wish to serve the notice period; indirectly, by using my leave to offset, I am working for the company for free for one month, by not cashing in my leave if I serve the notice period. What would you do? Thanks.

  18. Hi guys, Some of you have responded to my previous post of asking what what is the allowed number of stays in Taiwan and Japan with no visa. As it turn out now, the other company prefer that I quit and join them full time in Japan. So I'm now contemplating if I should join them for a couple of reasons - I liked the job there - Pay wise is not too bad, about 20% more than my current salary, inclusive of employer portion of CPF contribution. Apartment is provided. - I don't like my work here. Being in IT professional, I find myself stagnating here.... On the other hand, - I will need to be stationed in Japan. They proposed to allow me to go back for 2 weeks every 10 weeks but I am requesting to allow me to come back for 2 weeks every 6 weeks. I still have kids in primary school. - Not young anymore. Coming to 40. I had been through such experience 5 years ago but that time, the company just allowed me to go back a week every 4 months and relationship with wife really strained. After a year, I had to quit and come back to look for another job. This time round, it was my wife who suggested why don't I go back to Japan to work since I like the work there and I wasn't happy here.... She was happy to see the improved arrangement on the better salary structure and more time allowed to come back to SG as I started discuss with the Japan counterpart.... So guys who had experience in going oversea to work without family. How do you guys cope?
