  1. Recently i have seen a few new cars, maybe 1 to 2 years car with dents, some are quite big, on the bumpers. 1 i saw obviously langa a pole or something while reversing. only 1 line kind of dent but it is huge in the middle of the bumper. If you drive a 1-2 years old car and have dent on your bumper or wherever, will you spend money to fix it or just leave it as it is?
  2. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1128878/1/.html SINGAPORE : Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Saturday said they have decided to leave the Cabinet for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his team to have a fresh clean slate. In a joint statement, they said: "We have studied the new political situation and thought how it can affect the future. We have made our contributions to the development of Singapore. The time has come for a younger generation to carry Singapore forward in a more difficult and complex situation. "The Prime Minister and his team of younger leaders should have a fresh clean slate. A younger generation, besides having a non-corrupt and meritocratic government and a high standard of living, wants to be more engaged in the decisions which affect them. "After a watershed General Election, we have decided to leave the Cabinet and have a completely younger team of ministers to connect to and engage with this young generation in shaping the future of our Singapore. "But the younger team must always have in mind the interests of the older generation. This generation who has contributed to Singapore must be well-looked after."

http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...180318-500.html The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has advised Singaporeans in the areas affected by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear plant problems in Japan to move to safer locations. A spokesman from the MFA said Singaporeans currently in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures should evacuate the area with immediate effect. Singaporeans in prefectures neighbouring Fukushima, such as Yamagata, and Niigata, as well as in the Kanto region (Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, Saitama, Gunma, Ibaraki, Tochigi), should consider leaving if they have no pressing reasons to remain there. The Singapore Embassy in Tokyo has made arrangements for Singaporeans living within the radius of 80 to 100 km from the nuclear power plant to leave for safer locations starting 17 March 2011. The embassy has been assisting Singaporeans who wish to leave Japan with travel arrangements, immigration or visa-related issues, and in some urgent cases, helped arrange local transportation. "We are working closely with Singapore Airlines to ensure that there is sufficient capacity for Singaporeans wishing to return to Singapore, including the possibility of mounting extra flights," said the spokesman. Consular teams in Tokyo are stationed at Narita and Haneda Airports and will render the necessary consular assistance to Singaporeans who decide to return to Singapore, the spokesman added. Singaporeans wishing to return home or travel to a third country may also wish to consider commercial flights from the Kansai International Airport in Osaka, the Central Japan International Airport in Nagoya, and the Fukuoka International Airport in Fukuoka. They should closely monitor the situation and follow instructions from their local authorities, the spokesman pointed out. 20 Singaporeans in Sendai, approximately 90km from Fukushima, have indicated to that they wish to stay behind. The Singapore Embassy will continue to stay in touch with them. "We continue to advise against all non-essential travel to Japan," the MFA spokesman said.

Must be a really pampered girl. ST Forum Mar 7, 2011 A mum's reasons for paternity leave SINCE we became first-time parents on Feb 9, it has been a roller-coaster ride for my husband and myself. First the baby had fever, then jaundice and later colic, not to mention the breastfeeding issues in between. We may have been forewarned about all these when we read up on having babies, but that did not stop me from turning into an emotional wreck. As a mother, I am supposedly the primary caregiver; generations of new mothers have gone through it and survived, so I should be no different. Yet, I have been blessed with a husband who is an excellent father, and who is better at handling a baby than I am, and who would have been a great help during these trying times, if only he had paternity leave. Instead, he is stretched trying to balance work, parenting and our relationship. Annual leave is one option but approval is subject to work exigencies. Mandatory paternity leave would be a different story altogether, and ideally, it should be for one month, because the first month is the toughest for parents and tackling it jointly will help greatly. I urge the authorities to consider mandatory paternity leave to improve our nation's birth rate. While I had previously entertained the idea of having two children, I do not think I can go through another round of the past few weeks without my husband by my side. I am sure many women out there will empathise with me. Heng Yoke Khee (Ms)

  12. please suggest a way as to how to ask a colleage of more than 10 yrs to leave for good. Reason for being: 1. lack of work commitment, eg. dozing off during work, late for appointment made with customers and often they have to wait for her in excess of 30mins. 2. not mending the shop and often wanders off to other places to do things not relevant to work. 3. uncountable complaints from customers Is not easy to sack someone u have known for so long. But its clear that she is no longer require and is actually a liability to the company. Please suggest a way or method

    Leave advise

guys, i have sent in my resignation letter and will be leaving the company soon. As i'm still serving my required notice of 1 month, and i have 20 days of leave left, i have some questions. 1. if the company asked me to leave without the need to serve my notice by off-setting my leave, does the company still required to pay me the notice? 2. if yes, do they pay me the notice period only and not the leave that i'm entitiled to or do they need to repay me notice period + leave thanks in advance

  18. my previous and current company gives me time off when employees need to go for reservist or rt. i was surprised when my friend who works in the engineering line is currently being FORCED to use his ANNUAL LEAVE for RT by the hr. is this normal practice? if this is normal then every year he will end up using all his leaves for RT. he is currently very depressed and confused because he didn't have this issue during his previous years. when he asked the hr how come last time it was allowed now not allowed he was told that last few years they have been giving him ample chances already WTF he is even considering leaving his job bcos of this issue and is currently asking around for lobangs.... i asked him if his manager and hr are FTs or what. he said no. they are singaporean..... ladies. he told me they had no clue what rt is and thought that rt is an optional excercise voluntarily taken up by guys... WTF my advise to him... f--k it and let mindef and his company sort it out themselves. he has called mindef and told them about the situation. mindef told him that it is not necessary to take annual leaves and that they will get back to him. he is currently waiting for their call. guess this is the thanks he gets for serving ns

  20. Forwarded by a friend.... Every company faces the problem of people leaving the company for better pay or profile. WHY? Early this year, Mark, a senior software designer, got an offer from a prestigious international firm to work in its India operations developing specialized software. He was thrilled by the offer. He had heard a lot about the CEO. The salary was great. The company had all the right systems in place employee-friendly human resources (HR) policies, a spanking new office, and the very best technology, even a canteen that served superb food. Twice Mark was sent abroad for training. "My learning curve is the sharpest it's ever been," he said soon after he joined. Last week, less than eight months after he joined, Mark walked out of the job. Why did this talented employee leave? Mark quit for the same reason that drives many good people away. The answer lies in one of the largest studies undertaken by the Gallup Organization. The study surveyed over a million employees and 80,000 managers and was published in a book called " First Break All the Rules". It came up with this surprising finding: If you're losing good people, look to their immediate boss . Immediate boss is the reason people stay and thrive in an organization. And he's the reason why people leave. When people leave they take knowledge, experience and contacts with them, straight to the competition. "People leave managers not companies ," write the authors Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman. Mostly manager drives people away? HR experts say that of all the abuses, employees find humiliation the most intolerable. The first time, an employee may not leave, but a thought has been planted. The second time that thought gets strengthened. The third time, he looks for another job. When people cannot retort openly in anger, they do so by passive aggression. By digging their heels in and slowing down. By doing only what they are told to do and no more. By omitting to give the boss crucial information. Dev says: "If you work for a jerk, you basically want to get him into trouble. You don't have your heart and soul in the job." Different managers can stress out employees in different ways
  21. Rumours had been spreading in UK that RB will be leaving Liverpool this weekends and betting on RB next to be sacked had been suspended by the bookies in UK ...... RB denied this rumours but stop short of commenting it after the 1-0 winning at Champion League against Real Madrid this morning...... ESPN Soccernet report : Benitez bullish in the face of Liverpool job rumours Rafael Benitez moved to end speculation over his future as manager in the aftermath of his side's impressive 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Bernabeu. The matchday build up was however overshadowed by rumours that Benitez was set about to walk away from the club due to the ongoing stalemate over a new contract between the Spaniard and Liverpool's American owners. "My lawyers and advisors have been talking to the club's owners today about the contract and I believe that problems we have can be overcome," said Benitez. "I was very surprised today to hear rumours from Liverpool that I was going to resign. Benitez has been locked in talks over a new four-year deal for several weeks, and it is believed owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks have balked at some of the Spaniard's demand. But Benitez remains certain an agreement will eventually be reached.

  23. just saw this from Reuters...... Temasek CEO Ho Ching to leave; replaced by ex-BHP's Goodyear SINGAPORE, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Singapore state investor Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL] said on Friday its chief executive Ho Ching will step down and be replaced by former BHP Billiton CEO Chip Goodyear on Oct. 1. Ho Ching, wife of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, joined Temasek as a director in January 2002 and has been CEO since January 2004. "The team has already embarked on a different stance since mid-2007, and has begun to review its long-term plans under different scenarios prompted by the economic downturn," Chairman S. Dhanabalan said at a media briefing. "If we are to bring in new leadership, it would be just as good a time as any to involve a new leader in this review." Goodyear, 51, stepped down as CEO of BHP Billiton in January 2007. He joined Temasek's board on Sunday. Temasek, which had S$185 billion ($123.2 billion) in assets as at March 2008, has been hit hard due to its 40 percent exposure to banks that have slumped in value due to the global financial crisis. The sovereign wealth fund's key investments include 28 percent of DBS Group <DBSM.SI>, just under a fifth of Standard Chartered Bank <STAN.L> and about 3.8 percent of Bank of America (BoA) <BAC.N> following BoA's takeover of Merrill Lynch. Temasek's $5 billion plus investment in Merrill alone has resulted in a loss of more than $2 billion.
  24. Dear all MCFers, yours truly not sure if joining this trip yet but may go with some hiadees up to Penang. personally I am a regular visitor to bolehland, usually not further than KL/genting/Cameron. A year ago I did drive to peneg but that was after I rested a day in KL so trip was effectively broken up into 2 halves. My plan is to reach penang island before lunch in a sinle trip, so question is: - Is it a good idea leave SG by 2nd link by 4am? never left SG in the dark before. In this dark condition until first light come on around 6.30am, how fast can I go? 200kmh possible? or already got many cars so best to do only 150kmh average to be safer until sky brightens. - Assuming can reach KL by 6am, and take a breakfast break and restart from KL say at 7am, how is the traffic from KL to Ipoh>Peneng around this time? Can average 200kmh or not, so that can reach penang bridge by before 10am ...possible? Hope some regulars tp penang can share. thx
