  1. 只能这样说:姜太公钓鱼--愿者上钩 From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_780956.html Hong Kong can keep the shoebox title, thank you Published on Mar 24, 2012 WEDNESDAY'S reports ('3-bedroom condo unit at 635 sq ft: A new low?' and 'Shoebox flats continue to be popular') indicate that Singapore seems to be on the way to becoming a land of shrinking apartments. Are market forces forcing middle-income households to invest their million-dollar life savings on overpriced 500 sq ft apartments? I hope the popularity of shoebox flats is not a consequence of sky-high private property prices. If it is, it does not bode well for future generations. Developers profit more by exploiting buyers' limited resources. If the trend continues, we may soon surpass Hong Kong as the world's No. 1 city for shoebox flats. A decent space for a three-bedroom unit should be at least 1,100 sq ft. The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) must stop profit-driven private developers from shrinking units to a size that tests the limits of building construction specifications for decent living. The shoebox flat size in Singapore may be larger than those in other cities, where it is common to have apartments that are smaller than 200 sq ft. But a shoebox is a shoebox. The question is: Do we want Singapore to slide to such a stage? A 500 sq ft space is a 500 sq ft space, regardless of how many walls one knocks down. The key is having a decent dwelling space. The URA should not allow the unhealthy trend to persist. Paul Chan
  2. I feel that guys in general can be quite chin chye and happy-go-lucky. Women on the other hand seem to suffer from a neurotic condition where they cannot be happy. Even when things are generally peaceful, they will some small pee sai matter to worry / feel inadequate / find fault over. Agree?
  3. Yesterday my wife asked why I didn't do something useful with my time. She suggested I go down to the senior center and hang out with the guys. I did this and, when I got home last night, I told her that I had joined a parachute club. She said, "Are you nuts? You're 69 years old and you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?" I proudly showed her that I even got a membership card. She read it & said to me, "You idiot, where are your glasses! This is membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club!" Now I'm in trouble again and don't know what to do. I signed up for five jumps a week! Life as a senior citizen is not easy.

  5. Read this somewhere... Making a point to always try to live simply. I don't need a lot of stuff. Society makes us think we do, but I don't. I don't have a lot of money but I get by just fine. I'm able to pay the bills, eat pretty healthily, get myself a few things here and there. I don't buy into technology, wasting money on iPads, smartphones & stuff that is not needed. I like living this way because I'm rarely ever stressed out worrying if I'm going to have enough money or something. I've made my life simple and never been happier. There're others who spend their lives trying to get the better job title, making more money, wishing for more money, buying huge homes with space they don't use and struggling to pay the house payments. Buying 'new and better' cars, filling their closets with clothes, shoes, buying 'better' tvs. Filling their homes with stuff and more stuff... they've the high when it first happens, then it goes away and they're depressed again. They're always wanting more, thinking the next thing will be the thing to make them happy again. They spend their time on looks. They spend their time trying to keep from being 'bored' by constantly watching tv, stay on the computer, texting, tweeting... I've seen people who can't do nothing for five minutes, they have to take out their phone and play with it. They have no clue how to be alone with their true selves. It is sad what these people miss out on.
  6. I don't mind revealing to you guys I used to make around $30k a month. This should be a modest amount by MCF standards. Unfortunately, my company recently lost a major client. Because of this my CEO has decided to cut pay for the entire management team. After the cuts, I should be getting around $20k only so I must start cutting personal expenses and living on a budget. Feeling a bit tulan because this will affect my family's standard of living. Do you guys think I should tender my resignation after CNY? To be honest I can make the same or more elsewhere. Only thing is this company is rather lax so I can get away with more things (like surfing MCF during office hours)
  7. Dear drivers, I have been seeing more and more videos appearing online shaming road bullies and inconsiderate road users. If one fine day you saw your face or car appearing online flashing across the major forums, who would you continue your life here? Imagine that your family, relatives and colleagues see your behavior fully exposed? By saying this, do you try to spot for car camera when you are enraged by the other parties behavior before you give him a piece of your mind?

  10. Say I buy live prawns from NTUC or Sheng Siong. How long can they stay alive in the water bag? How can I tell if they are fresh-water or sea-water prawns? For fresh-water prawns, is it an offence to release them into a lake or reservoir? (Lakes are those found in parks.) For sea-water prawns, I read they can't adapt to the local seawater (if put in directly) and will die. Is that right?

  16. I sincerely hope this is a hoax. The latest craze in China is selling little plastic key chains with live animals like fishes sealed in them. STOMPer freewilly thinks that this is inhumane and qualifies as animal abuse. The STOMPer says: "These key chains are sold at train stations. "The water in the key chain supposedly contains 'nutrients' that will keep the animals alive for a month or longer. "There's a rumour going around that after the animals die, the carcass is heated up in the microwave for 15 seconds and is enjoyed with an ice cold beer. "These people selling the key chains are not in the right mind."

  21. The St cite a rise in Mag compaints filed...by... Who else but.... Sinkie against Sinkie or Sinkie against FTs...or whatever. This has been a rising trend and shows no signs of abating. Although this IS a small place to live in, Sinkie has apparently shown their displeasure by failing to live .. ....simply with tolerances and patience with others and even with their own family members. Even revenge and counter revenge and vengeful acts are on the rise and all these indicate that this small place is begining to be, untolerable for folks that wanted to just live in peace and harmony. This is BAD....this is very bad. Seems like with more campaigns to be more courteous and gracious...Sinkie have instead gone the other way! Crime among youths have also gone up, coupled with the behaviour of grown ups, who are supposed to set a better examples to the youths, have instead set worse example by being exactly what they are not supposed to be. With divorce rate rising and old folks abandoned and/or sent to nursing home, it is no wonder there are untold level of consequences, for a nation so set to pursuing riches, that come with a price to dear for most to pay!
