  1. Seems that as I earn more compared to the early years when I just graduated, Singapore does seem to be a wonderful to live and spend $. Want variety? Just take a plane and you have Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and Thailand as your playground. Experience whatever Singapore cannot offer by just spending a couple of hundreds for a ticket.......temporary enjoyment only though. Am beginning to realise why foreigners come here. May not agree with all the policies and censorship etc etc but as long as the moolah continues to flow, I will call Singapore home. When moolah no longer flows, it may be Sayonara to Singapura. Itz a fair deal after all.
  2. looking for the above place to dine tomorrow...
  3. A morbid question for the weekend. Have you ever thought about how long you wish to live? Do you wish to hang around as long as possible or will you be happy to go after certain milestones have been reached? Is this milestone a specific age or an event like having grandchildren? I am not asking anyone to commit suicide so please don't get the wrong ideas. This topic is more about what you want to accomplish in life and at what stage can you say you have had a good one. Personally, I would like to go before I become a burden to anyone.
  4. Taken from http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20090619/tts-...ht-7d7070a.html AFP - Saturday, June 20 TOKYO (AFP) - - Health experts have long warned of the risk of obesity, but a new Japanese study warns that being very skinny is even more dangerous, and that slightly chubby people live longer.ADVERTISEMENT People who are a little overweight at age 40 live six to seven years longer than very thin people, whose average life expectancy was shorter by some five years than that of obese people, the study found. "We found skinny people run the highest risk," said Shinichi Kuriyama, an associate professor at Tohoku University's Graduate School of Medicine who worked on the long-term study of middle-aged and elderly people. "We had expected thin people would show the shortest life expectancy but didn't expect the difference to be this large," he told AFP by telephone. The study was conducted by a health ministry team led by Tohoku University professor Ichiro Tsuji and covered 50,000 people between the ages of 40 and 79 over 12 years in the northern Japanese prefecture of Miyagi. "There had been an argument that thin people's lives are short because many of them are sick or smoke. But the difference was almost unchanged even when we eliminated these factors," Kuriyama said. Main reasons for the shorter lifespans of skinny people were believed to include their heightened vulnerability to diseases such as pneumonia and the fragility of their blood vessels, he said. But Kuriyama warned he was not recommending people eat as much as they want. "It's better that thin people try to gain normal weight, but we doubt it's good for people of normal physique to put on more fat," he said. The study divided people into four weight classes at age 40 according to their body mass index, or BMI, calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by their squared height in metres. The normal range is 18.5 to 25, with thinness defined as under 18.5. A BMI of 25 to 30 was classed as slightly overweight and an index above 30 as obese.
  5. A Story to live by There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She told her boyfriend, 'If I could only see the world, I will marry you.' One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her. When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything, including her boyfriend. He asked her, 'Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?' The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her. She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears and days later wrote a note to her saying: 'Take good care of your eyes, my dear, for before they were yours, they were mine.' This is how the human brain often works when our status changes. Only a very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations. Life Is a Gift Today before you say an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak. Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat. Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion. Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who died too early on this earth. Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires children but they're barren. Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep - Think of the people who are living in the streets. Before whining about the distance you drive Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet. And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job. But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another - Remember that not one of us is without sin . And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and think: you're alive and still around. ========================== I PRAY THIS MOVES AROUND THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE... Too beautiful not to share.......

  7. Off Peak means they shouldn't add to the number of vehicles during peak hours! OPC needs a time tuning? Such cars shouldn't contributes into our traffic jams. Currently, these red-plated cars can be used only from 7pm to 7am on weekdays, and after 3pm on Saturdays, and for the full day on Sundays and public holidays. Why not let these cars have full Saturdays and Sundays but reduce the weekdays timing from 9pm to 7am? Be fair...

  11. SINGAPOREANS could consider living in nursing homes in neighbouring Johor Baru, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan suggested yesterday. It would be cheaper, yet be near enough to Singapore for family members to visit and for residents to return for medical care if necessary, he said. He told Parliament yesterday that he recently visited a site in Johor Baru where a Singaporean investor was planning to build a 200-bed nursing home. He asked the investor about the costs involved, and was stunned at how low they were. He said: 'It is mind-boggling. The cost of land and construction cost is so low that my cost of putting up just a polyclinic (in Singapore) is probably more than his cost of putting up a 200-bed nursing home (in Johor Baru). 'The monthly cost of keeping a resident in a private nursing home in Singapore, you can stretch it easily to pay at least 2-1/2 months of nursing home care in Johor Baru.' If any medical problems cropped up, the elderly could be taken back to Singapore by ambulance, he said. For most Singaporeans, visiting a relative in a Johor Baru nursing home would not pose significant difficulties, he said. The investor, who is a nursing home chief executive, told him that many people visited their relatives weekly, even in nursing homes in Singapore. Mr Khaw added: 'Of course many visit daily, but quite a significant number visit only during the weekends, so what is the difference in putting them in Johor Baru?' Lol... We Singaporeans are screwed...

  19. Dear all, I find myself belonging to the latter. Sometimes when I'm busy; I find lunch a watse of time. At other times I find myself eating the same kind of food, eg. vegetarian noodles, for lunch for a couple of months before I got sick of it and switch to something else. Basically, I don't crave for food and just eat to continue living. What type are you?
