  3. Man arrested for vandalism POLICE on Wednesday arrested a man in his 40s for vandalism, after a signage stone wall outside Parliament House was defaced at lunch hour. At about 1.30pm, three unifomed Certis Cisco guards were seen wrestling down a man, wearing a red T-shirt and brown trousers, on the lawn outside Parliament House. Scribbled in black marker on the top right corner of the shoulder-high wall were the words: 'Hi Harry Lee. I love you.' Eyewitnesses said they saw guards running across the lawn from Parliament House to nab the man while he scribbled on the wall. It took three guards to subdue the medium-built man as he refused to be pinned down and tried to wriggle free. As he was led away, a guard held up a piece of cardboard to cover up the words. Soon after, other security personnel brought a canvas sheet and draped it over the sign. The graffiti was cleaned off by 2.40pm. In response to queries by The Straits Times, a police spokesman said: 'On 14 Jan 09 at about 2.20pm, Police arrested a Chinese man in his late 40s for vandalism at the vicinity of Parliament House. Police investigations are ongoing.'

  7. Report taken from http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20081113/tts-...rt-972e412.html WASHINGTON (AFP) - - A thick waist almost doubles the risk of premature death, a major European study has found, showing there's nothing lovely about love handles. Importantly, the risk is similar even when body mass index (BMI) fell within normal range, according to the authors of the study of 359,000 people aged 51.9 on average, including 65.4 percent women, appearing in Thursday's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. The research found that excess fat stored around the middle of the body was a major health risk even when people are not considered obese or even overweight by statistical BMI standards. In fact, each five centimetre increase in waist size increased the risk of death by 17 percent in men and 13 percent in women. "The most important result of our study is the finding that not just being overweight, but also the distribution of body fat, affects the risk of premature death of each individual," said Tobias Pischon, the lead author of the paper from the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam-Rehbr?/p> The data should encourage physicians to routinely measure patients' waists as well as their BMI on routine office visits, according to the study carried out by the Imperial College London (GB), German Institute for Human Nutrition and other European participants. "The good news is that you don't need to take an expensive test and wait ages for the result to assess this aspect of your health - it costs virtually nothing to measure your waist and hip size," said Elio Riboli, the European coordinator of the EPIC study from the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at Imperial College London. "If you have a large waist, you probably need to increase the amount of exercise you do every day, avoid excessive alcohol consumption and improve your diet. This could make a huge difference in reducing your risk of an early death." Sadly, i've been given the gift of love handles since young. They're a pain to get rid of.

  15. Is it because when you lose something then u will treasure it? When you have someone, you may not have the feeling she is best, instead you think about the areas you dont like about her. After you lose her then you will miss her. If you think your first gf is always the best, when you lost your 3rd or 4th gf, you probably will not feel this way again. True?

  20. Sichuan, China was hit with the worst earthquake at a powerful 8.0 magnitude on May 12th 2008 in the past three decades. This event is initiated by Surin Tan, a young and passionate Singaporean who really hope to do something to help the victim of Sichuan earthquake. Surin ropes in her office, friends, contacts on this meaningful initiative. The path to get approval, an non profitable organization, venue, sponsor prove to be very difficult in Singapore context. There are tons of rules and regulations we need to take note of. Ideas being shattered, criticized, rejected but our determination keep us going. Our principle is, 100% of the ticket proceeds MUST go to Relief. We ensure that all the money that we going to raise will be handled directly by a non-profitable organization. There MUST be absolute transparency. With Averil (Project Superstar) effort, she has gathered a full support from a group of young people who are passionate about singing and doing something meaningful too. They are performing for no fee... not even transportation and food allowance. 17 music enthusiasts have come together on 25th May, despite their busy schedules, for photo shoot, song selection and discussion. We have completed the 1st milestone of the project. More warmhearted individuals are joining us on this meaningful journey. We are working very hard on preparation and getting this going. Its everyone's effort, gather for a common cause. We are not getting any rewards out of this, just a pure intention, sing to raise funds for the Sichuan's earthquake victims. We sincerely hope that you would give us your support by attending the event. This event is happening on Venue: EZ50 - One Neil Road (diagonally opp Maxwell Market) Saturday, June 7, 2008 7:00pm - 10:00pm Ticket Price $20.00 (sales at door) *admission to 16 years old and above Give us your greatest support!
