  1. Original thread in HWZ EDMW: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=3008414 Original thread in MCF: http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...p;hl=cheesepie* In his sinful thread:
  2. Wife bought an i-pad look-a-like from Shanghai for a mere S$170 equivalent. Not so use to using touch screen to nagivate. Find Android OS very clumsy too. A no-frill 10" mini-computer for causal use and internet surfing, may be. 5 hours use for full-charge. So what is the trend now? Would I be better off buying a Netbook (Mini Notebook/Laptop) instead? Just for internet surfing during travel. 7~8 hours use for full-charge. Dell Mini is only selling at RM999 (S$420) here but Singapore selling at S$499. Any other good buys to recommend? Thank you very much. Regards,

  7. Here in the States, car buyers remain inexplicably drawn to chrome. U.S. automakers slap copious amounts of chrome finish on wheels, door handles, trim and grilles because they say customers will pay more money as the chrome content increases. The shiny stuff isn't such a big hit in Europe, where more motorists prefer the subtle look of black or body-color accents and brushed aluminum wheels. But at least one couple in England loves them some chrome, as evidenced by their spanking new
  8. I am impressed that Singapore market can command a special engine and model car! Anyone with other special Singapore only varient car model? http://www.------.com/articles/article.php?artid=730 "The Stratford is a Singapore only model and is kitted up to differentiate it from the discontinued One. Unlike the Camden and Mayfair, the Stratford is not a limited edition and individually numbered model but will be a regular model in Mini's local line-up."

  10. The original British Mini is something of an icon all around the world, and with good reason. The little runabout combined such praiseworthy virtues as small size and light weight, incredibly efficient front-wheel-drive packaging and a good dose of fun-to-drive enjoyment all in one relatively inexpensive machine that also managed to look pretty darn good. So small was the seminal design from Sir Alec Issigonis that it was given the name Mini by its makers, the British Motor Corporation. So, when the marque was picked up by BMW when it acquired the ailing Rover brand, you'd expect that the next-gen Mini would also be... well, mini. And it is, sort of. When parked next to nearly any modern car this side of a Smart Fortwo, the modern Mini is indeed pretty darn small. Each successive vehicle from the reborn brand, though, has upped the size ante just a wee bit, from the Cooper to the Clubman to the not-yet-released Countryman. And when you park a Countryman next to the original 1959 Morris Mini Minor, as was recently done by the fine chaps at Auto Express, the size disparity is blatantly obvious. See for yourself.
  11. hi Saw a clubman on saturday morning, its quite a good looker ....... anyone driving a mini ..pls come in to give your reviews and comments Thanks
  12. Like it or not, cars will be greener (read: no more V8 growls). Even if there is some sort of speaker to replicate the "sound", it will never come close to the real thing. However, in our local context, owning a car with a V8 engine is reserved for about 2% of the population who are rich enough. Most of us would rather not hear our engines at all, not when it sound like moo-ing cows. Which means, Singapore, given it's tiny area, lack of space to stretch ANY engine and ridiculous tax rules, is an ideal location for electric cars. Although still largely impractical for families, the 2 seater Mini-E is still one of the more practical zero-emission car out there. Retaining the hippy looks of it's petrol-driven cousin, the Mini Cooper, the E looks pretty darn good too. (Anyway, the current Mini Cooper can hardly seat more than 2) If NEA meant anything they said about going green, perhaps investing in charging stations is a good proper step ahead. Start with the many multi-storey carparks here. Given the compact size of the Mini-E's charging wall panel, space should not be a problem. I'm no electrician or engineer, but I do think that it is not entirely difficult to hook up these wall panels to the mains. A typical charging panel Next, following the example set by the new City Square mall, setup charging stations in carparks of Malls, Office Buildings etc. Combine all these ideal factors with the low mileage that Singaporeans travel from point to point, and driving an electric vehicle might not sound very far-fetched. To this extent, the Mini-E is probably ideal, other than the lack of engine noise, it handles and drives like any other Mini out there. With 220nm of torque available the instant u step on the accelerator, and a top speed of around 152km/h, it will leave most cars biting the dust too. The stated 167 kilometers range on a single charge is also more than adequate for anyone living in Singapore. From point to point, if you travel from Changi to Tuas, it would at most use up 1/2 of the battery's capacity. However, this is only an ideal scenario. With space for only the driver and a passenger, only those who are single, attached or married without children might consider the Mini-E. I am not doubting the government's willingness to setup charging stations. Than there is the problem of getting people to adopt a petrol-free driving lifestyle, such as having to plug in everytime you park (which would not take more than 2 minutes??). Limited space, although there is still a 60L boot! Also, for the zero emissions dream to be realised, a standard charging format should also be fixed upon. The most difficult hurdle to cross right now? Cost and size of the batteries. It will sky rocket the price of the car. Than again, if the government is willing to give electric car owners a tax break, it might not cost much different from your regular Mini (applicable only to Singapore). Quite honestly, the weird weather patterns has gotten the better of me and this post came as a result of that. Let's not just sit and talk about it, it is time to start doing something.
  13. wat would you go for JBT 4pot or VTTR 6 pot can any bro here advice ?? tks
  14. Oh yes ... once in a while need to rant. But it's a harmless rant, Then again thanks to this incident, came to realise how much I have really changed. Stopped at the red traffic light at a junction turning right towards SLE(BKE) from YCK Road. Beside me is a red Mini-Van who initially, has already given my CO a bad impression with the sudden brake after he realised he couldn't beat the red light and braked hard besides her. (Actually I already stopped at least 5 sec beforehand so I don't know why he can be thinking he can still beat the red light for the right turn.) When the traffic light turns green to move but not our 'right-turn' light. The Van again mistook it and tried to sped. It jam-braked suddenly again when he realised that. I can already sensed that 2F2F mood in him. Our lanes of Toyotas, Nissans, Mitsubishis are destined to be this Van's follower it seems. Waited for our turn and when the light turns green in our favour. Off we went. As I moved out first, then van sped up quickly to fill up the gap behind. As the road begans to merge in front. The red mini van shows no signs of slowing down even though I was pretty much in front. It came to a point where both our vehicles are close enough to crash side by side but I can see, he's not slowing down despite behind my vehicle. Any further dash, I think both of us can eat the grass besides the pavement liao. Sensing such ungentlemanly act, I slowed down a bit, just enough for the driver to squeeze past me before the road merge till too narrow for 2 vehicle. I was faced with 2 scenerio:- i) I can pick up my pace and 'cut' him into pieces at the main E'way. ii) I suck thumb, let humble takes over me. Need not say more, I chose the latter. As I watched the red van mercilessly destroyed to pieces by other fast moving vehicle on the main E'way. I just couldn't stop smiling. My CO sensed what I am thinking and blurt out loud, ... "aiya ... don't be a kid lah .... wana race for wat" .... She is very right. And I think I have grown up finally. Welcome to MCF uncles!!!

  18. I heard that the 7998R & 701 combo is quite good and its as good as or better value for $ than 9965 & 701 which is known as the baby or mini F#1. Has anyone had a chance to compare these various set ups? Other than the bells and whistles of DVD playability... , how does it compare? Looking to find out the pros and cons of either. Thanks
