Hi guys, I am taking over my FIL's Wish (2008) and extending the COE for another 10 years. This coming Dec, his COE will be expired and I am extending it on Nov. Due to the reason of his car a OPC, his mileage is about 70K Dec 08. His car is in very good condition and that the reason for me to extend the COE. What is the thing i will need to look out for? Currently i have a aircon issue whereby the aircon will not be cold when ever the engine is on idling. any help?

http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/housing/industry-gearing-up-for-new-rules-on-facade-checks It is rather amazing that we have introduced so many new products and designs without giving thought to maintenance. now suddenly they expect the lowly maintenance guys to be experts and be able to view defects using binoculars on the facade! Surely these maintenance guys won't know if the product will be flammable or the internal clippers have corroded. I would have hold QP responsible for the design and approving authority to ensure adequate maintenance processes are in placed before approving them. many renown designs were never given thought on maintenance. now it is others to pick up these sh#t.

Hi Guys, I've only owned Asian cars so far and recently feel like getting a conti car. May I know how much more does it cost to maintain a conti car say around the level of Golf GTI, C250 & X3? I'm ok with the purchase price but my friends are warning me that the real costs comes if after buying. Maintenance, parts replacements, repairs and the downtime at workshops; the frequency as well as waiting time for parts. So far I've owned a Corolla, Cefiro, Waja, Cerato, Stream and Wish. Cars never spent more than 1 night at workshops.

Sent my jaguar for first servicing, Told the service consultant it was jerking at low speed. A fellow jaguar owner experienced the same thing but he said his mechanic in England told him it could be rectified with tuning, he owns the same model in England. However the service consultant said Jaguar Singapore has no similar computer software. I suppose he expects us to live with the shortcoming of the car at low speed. I was puzzled: if it is available in UK how could it not be available to Jaguar Singapore!!! I emailed Wearnes to suggest that they bring in the software for the benefit of their customers in Singapore. Guess what, the consultant called to say he would update my car software but he is not sure if it would rectify the issue of jerkiness at low speed. He also explained that the software update has nothing to do with tuning as tuning involves taking apart the car engine and Jaguar Singapore would not do it. I still don't comprehend the service consultant's explanation. But I left it at that as the car is now more pleasant to drive at low speed. There is a further surprise. The consultant charged me for the software update!!! I wrote to Wearnes the next day that I should not be charged for the update, anyway it should be covered under the warranty. The service consultant called to say he had wrongly charged me and would refund me the money. The service consultant nearly drove me nut. It is suppose to be a routine servicing but so much time had been wasted in making clarification. What do you make of such a service consultant?

I have found this, anyone has the idea; Personal experience base on 1 of my family car from parallel importers. Many PI & Used Car Reseller have warranty service under this "Optima Workz". I stop going back to this work after 9mths and void the warranty all together after my brand new car was under recall list - suppose to be recall for replacement. Nothing was done after check up(no recall replacement of parts), stating it is okay - WTF. Went to PI and PI push back to workshop, after 3 mths of argument and ban table . I give up and end of the day, I ask my japan colleague to order a brand new part(base on recall stated new part number) and hand carry back from japan since I travel up there a few times a year for business. My 2 cents base on so called PI Waranty is just bull shit.

Any bros here tried connecting small solar panels (18v) like 4W or so to trickle charge your battery especially if you seldom drives? Do you connect the solar panel directly to battery with the wires to car still connected? What voltage/wattage solar panel you you use? When your car starts, will the alternator power kill the solar panel if you leave it there?

May I know is there any specific brand of coolant that is recommended for use on the Vezel ? Which type of coolant do you use. A lot of important parts is made of plastic on the Vezel if you have noticed to make the engine lighter. e.g. Manifold , etc.. These plastic parts are not the cover for the metal parts in engines of the past.

Hi Am looking for a replacement car of not more than $160k. Some considerations for narrowing down my choices are: a) Reliability; b) Safety; c) Performance; d) FC; e) Comfort; f) Maintenance costs (AD) - a range would be helpful; g) Insurance premium. Have test drove the Volvo T5, Infiniti Q50 and Mazda 6 recently. All 2.0 litre petrol cars. Diesel cars not an option as my mileage not high. Just doing my due diligence before making a commitment. Hence, would greatly appreciate existing/ past owners of the above cars to share experience of their ride; and potential owners to share the x-factors that made them signed on the dotted line. Thanks a lot!

Hello everyone, For people with full size spare tires, please check your spare tire's pressure periodically, say every six months. I checked mine earlier this week, the pressure has dropped to an unusable 150 kPa (1.5 bar or 21.8 psi); I only pumped it to 250 kPa about a year ago. Further, mine was already more than five years old; while it has never been mounted on the car before, I decided to change it this morning, as it would have suffered from rubber deterioration. Unless one has X-rays' eyes like Superman to inspect the tire's internal structure, one would not know if the steel radial cords and the rubber have lost their bonding and the tire's structural integrity is compromised and therefore unusable. A five year old tire should not be put in service, regardless of tread wear and usage pattern. Some may think it is a waste of money to change your spare tire which one hardly use; if you just drive in Singapore and distances are very short (50 - 100 km), I think it is OK to use your old spare tire and drive to your usual tire shop for repair and replacement. However, if you travel to Malaysia sometimes, I think a functional spare tire (full size spare or temporary spare) or tire repair kit is important, so that your mobility and safety are not compromised. Drive safely, regularly maintain your vehicle and you would enjoy many years of safe motoring.

Just a suggestion for peace of mind. As higher temperatures are expected, one may wish to consider to do their normal 10k servicing sooner by maybe 1k km. I would think this would especially apply to major servicing as the coolant is near the end of its useful life and the hot weather is so unkind. Same goes for ATF change as well. Prevention is better than cure.

Hi, question to you Gurus in here. Looking to create a detailed maintenance schedule for my superb. I am not looking at when to send to car for servicing but what needs to be looked at each service. I don't completely trust the "outside" workshops. I have heard diffrent things from different workshop when I enquired about my coming 60K service. Not so much that they add "extra" services that are not required but more afraid that they leave something out that will detrimental to car. Thanks Lamy
