  2. Hosay liao............ciggy going to increase price in MY........smoking at R&R tio orh gong RM250-RM500.........worse than speeding...... http://transport.asiaone.com/news/general/story/all-malaysian-highway-rest-stops-become-smoke-free-zones IPOH - Smokers will have even fewer places to light up soon. All rest and recreation (R&R) stops along highways are to be designated as "no-smoking" zones by year-end, with the coverage expanding to a radius of 3m around the covered areas of the facility. Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, who announced this yesterday, said it would mean that eateries and even toilets at R&Rs would be smoke-free. He added that the ministry had set a target to lower the number of smokers in the country by 16 per cent because the Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2011 showed that 23.1 per cent or 4.7 million Malaysians were smokers. Vowing to expand "no-smoking" zones in the country, Dr Subramaniam said discussions had been held with the relevant agencies and all had agreed to gazetting R&Rs as "no-smoking" zones. "We want to implement this as soon as possible. "The smoke-free zones will cover a 3m radius within the area," he told reporters after launching the national-level "International No Tobacco Day" event at a hypermarket in Meru Raya here. Dr Subramaniam said that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would also gazette its sheltered walkways spanning 23km in the city centre as smoke-free zones. "The authorities will also be stepping up enforcement and monitoring these areas to deter people from smoking. "I know that enforcement will be a challenge as it covers a large area but it will be done. "It is only through strict enforcement that we can drive our message across," he said, adding that offenders could be fined between RM250 and RM500. The minister warned that those who failed to pay their compounds could be brought to court and fined a maximum of RM10,000 or face up to two years in prison if found guilty. Dr Subramaniam said the ministry had also beefed up enforcement against sales and procurement of illegal cigarettes. He added that the ministry wanted a 70 per cent tax imposed on cigarettes to deter the young from picking up the habit. - See more at: http://transport.asiaone.com/news/general/story/all-malaysian-highway-rest-stops-become-smoke-free-zones#sthash.eGTvQhAS.dpuf
  3. Just curious, do our TP stop Malaysian bikes and cars who have committed traffic offences such as speeding or beating red light offences at our immigration? Or do they just waive off any fines against foreign vehicles?
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEPw4IUxRzI A security guard shot dead a bank operations officer in a robbery at the Ambank branch in USJ Sentral, Subang Jaya today. Noazita Abu Talib, 37, was shot once in the face with a pump-gun in the 6.20pm incident. It is learnt that the victim was opening the door to the vault‎ when she was shot. Noazita was a mother of two and had been working at Ambank for 16 years. The security guard, who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash on a motorcycle, has been identified as a 37-year-old Sabahan with a fake IC. Subang Jaya deputy superintendant Tan ‎Ah Chua was at the scene when contacted and confirmed the incident. But he declined to elaborate further. State deputy police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the suspect was armed and considered to be dangerous, cautioning the public to stay vigil. Meanwhile, police are looking for Ardi Hamza whose last known address is 70, Jalan Apas, Batu 2, ‎Tawau, Sabah to facilitate investigations. 6. JOHOR BARU - Malaysian police are after Singapore-registered vehicles which have not settled their fines for unpaid traffic summonses. Johor Baru (South) traffic chief Deputy Supt Ooi Kok Seong said about four million summonses were issued to foreign vehicles, especially Singapore cars, since 2005. "Police are conducting an operation dubbed Ops Warta Singapura against owners of vehicles who have not paid the fines. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...602-350069.html
  7. A Malaysian man who tried to smuggle contraband cigarettes into Singapore in a sports car was stopped in his tracks early Friday morning. The 26-year-old, who was driving a Malaysia-registered sports car, was stopped for checks at Woodlands Checkpoint. Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers found 100 cartons of contraband cigarettes hidden in the rear speaker compartment of the car. The total customs duty and GST payable of the cigarettes are estimated to be about S$7,700. If found guilty, the man faces a fine that is up to 40 times the amount of duty evaded and/or jailed for up to six years. The vehicle used in moving the contraband can also be forfeited. 8. Food colouring, not chemicals, was in the indelible ink used in the general election, the Election Commission (EC) admitted today in the Dewan Rakyat. "No chemical was used in the ink but it was instead replaced with permitted food colouring," said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim in his reply to Segambut Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng. His statement was in stark contrast with the EC's claim that it used silver nitrate in the ink. He said the absence of the required chemical was the reason the ink was easily washed off. Shahidan also said that the expiry date of the ink was four months from the date it was issued but blamed voters for purposely trying to wash off the ink as the reason why it was not permanent. "How long the ink remains depends on the individual and the efforts put in to wash it off." In a written response, Shahidan also told the Dewan Rakyat that RM6.9 million had been spent on the ink, with an additional RM200,000 spent on transportation, packaging and storage, bringing the total expenditure to RM7.1 million. He added that the EC did not plan to release information related to the suppliers for security reasons. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had urged voters to lodge police reports on polling day after many of them showed how easily the ink could be washed off their fingers. EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof also announced the formation of a special task force to investigate the reasons why it could be easily washed off. Barisan Nasional won 133 parliamentary seats in the May 5 polls, 21 seats more than the 112 required to form a simple majority government. However, this was BN's smallest win since the country achieved independence in 1957. Pakatan Rakyat continues to refuse to accept the results and point to the fact that it had won 51% of the popular vote compared with BN's 48 %. PR has also filed 39 election petitions to challenge the results in 25 parliamentary and 14 state seats where BN won by small majorities. Despite the protests against the outcome of the polls, the EC insisted that it had carried out the elections in a fair manner, pointing out that the highest ever voter attendance of 84.84% was evidence of confidence in the electoral process. http://sg.news.yahoo.com/indelible-ink-not...-091953150.html

  10. Singapore and Malaysian police recovered six vehicles worth more than RM$480,000 (S$197,000) last Wednesday in a joint operation. Acting on information received from the Royal Malaysian Police through Interpol, officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF) launched an operation at the Brani Terminal to intercept two containers which were en route to Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. It was believed that a car-smuggling syndicate operating in Malaysia had been involved in the illegal trading of stolen Malaysian-registered vehicles and was using Singapore as transit for the stolen vehicles. Six Toyota Hilux cars which had been shipped in two containers from Port Klang to Singapore, where they were unloaded to be shipped again to Jebel Ali, were recovered. Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate had falsely declared the contents of the containers to avoid detection. The Malaysian police have also arrested several syndicate members in Malaysia in connection to this case. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...icles-recovered
  11. I couldn't stop laughing at the pictures! This is so typical! http://www.vice.com/read/the-malaysian-naz...for-a-pure-race Meet the Malaysian Neo-Nazis Fighting for a Pure Malay Race By Nick Chester 329 29 points on reddit A couple of years ago, my friend moved out to Malaysia in search of a life where a winter wardrobe isn't a thing and you don't have to worry about stuff like moronic bro culture or seeing Kim K's face on television. What he found was a job as a bar manager in an establishment frequented by Malay punks covered in swastikas, wearing Combat 18 (a neo-Nazi terrorist organization) T-shirts and harping on about "Malay power." Turns out they're a group of far-right nationalists who want to rid Malaysia of any non-ethnic Malays and stop immigration into the country. Which, although pretty backwards and reductive, isn't all that surprising in the current world climate. What was surprising, and kind of confusing, is that they identify themselves as neo-Nazis, are fond of sieg-heiling and listen to Nazi bands like Skrewdriver and Angry Aryan, yet definitely aren't Aryan themselves. And adopting a worldview that specifically discriminates against your race seems a very odd thing to do. I was told that one of the most popular Malay power bands is an act named Boot Axe, so I got in touch with band member Mr. Slay to find out why exactly a group of Malaysians are going through this bizarre, neo-Nazi identity crisis. VICE: Hi Slay. So what

  20. Not sure if this incident really happened during the recent Bersih 3.0 demonstration in KL or somewhere else but the many dark uniformed security personnel were rather brutal against the defenseless guy in purple. They were punching, kicking and using cane to whack the living daylights out of the purple shirted bloke. Warning: The video footage at the end was rather graphic and showed the brutality committed against the poor man. Watched it at your own discretion. From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ps_bash_up.html This Urban Jungle Posted on 02 May 2012 Police or hooligans? Malaysian cops gang up to whack, cane and kick man in public STOMPer AO was appalled by this video of uniformed Malaysian policemen punching, kicking and caning a man in public. He wonders if such violent acts from just over the Causeway could ever happen here. The incident is believed to have occurred during the Bersih 3.0 demonstrations that took place on Apr 28 in Kuala Lumpur. Thousands of people had gathered near Merdeka Square to challenge electoral rules in light of upcoming elections in Malaysia. Another video showing a police car losing control and ramming into a crowd of demonstrators also surfaced on the internet earlier. STOMPer AO wrote: "I do not want to say anything, just watch the video and make your own judgement! "What are human rights? "What if this were to happen in our own country? They are acting like GANGSTERS!"

  23. I do not think the authorities will assist much in this sort of civil disputes or come out with such an insurance scheme. If pressed I guess they will say go for BMW to save ourselves these hassles... From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_782815.html Make Malaysian vehicles liable for accidents here Published on Mar 29, 2012 I WAS involved in an accident with a Malaysian vehicle on Jan 3. The Traffic Police have not charged either party. If the accident had involved two Singapore-registered vehicles, the apportioning of liability would have been 50:50. However, as this involved a Malaysian vehicle, I was advised by my insurer to make an own damage claim as it would be difficult to claim damages from the foreign vehicle or its insurer. This is grossly unfair. Singapore drivers pay road tax to drive on Singapore roads. We should be assured that in the event of an accident, our interests are protected. I have two suggestions:
  24. Can somebody who understands bahasa explain what is going on? Do they always chase this hard and cuff all speedsters now, or are these cars on the wanted list already? I swear I only speed on NSHW when it is safe to do so.
  25. He's a veteran member of miw... part of the inner-circle... experienced minister (who seemed a good performer except a few flaws plus losing his seat in the last GE), etc. We all know ex-ministers (or senior post holders) will be given 'good' posts in GIC linked businesses after they retire, a typical 'reward system' used by the miw for its members. But GY's case seems to break the 'tradition'..... he joined a foreign group instead of becoming a 'family' member of GIC/Temasek dynasty. What went wrong? Are his views on how singapore should be led/governed so different from the miw's views that the latter TL and 'abandoned' him? or its the other way round: he super TL with miw's refusal to change despite their failed methods which led to him losing his seat during the 2011 GE? Does his departure (from the miw clan) signal the beginning of an 'exodus' of other miws from the party (due to fractions, infighting, etc)? Or is his latest move to a foreign group just a detour / smokescreen leading to something 'drama' eg forming / joining a opp party? Or all is well, nothing to think about, life goes on? miw might have offered him a lucrative post in GIC/temasek etc, but he rejected it? or miw told him "FO, and take care of yourself?"
