  1. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1040937/1/.html TOKYO: Embattled Toyota said Tuesday it is voluntarily fixing 1.3 million vehicles in North America for engine oil leaks but denied the campaign is a recall because it did not affect safety. "It is what we call a service campaign," said Toyota spokeswoman Mieko Iwasaki in Tokyo. For the past five months, she said, "we have been carrying out repairs step by step, sending letters to owners and dealers." The company had first informed North American dealers and car owners of the campaign in October and launched its third phase last week to voluntarily repair the defect, a crack in an engine hose. In an email statement received early Tuesday in Tokyo, the company said the problem "may cause oil to leak from the VVT-i oil hose producing abnormal engine noise and the oil pressure light to illuminate." "This is not a safety recall, and submitting a Defect Information Report to the (US) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is not required." Japan's biggest car maker has come under fire for its global recalls of more than eight million vehicles for accelerator and brake system defects, and has been accused of dragging its feet on making the safety flaws public. Toyota executives were due to face a US Senate panel grilling later on Tuesday after company president Akio Toyoda last week apologised in a US House hearing and did the same in Beijing on Monday. The Toyota spokeswoman in Japan said the company had already repaired free-of-charge 342,200 Avalon, Camry and RAV4 models and 374,000 Lexus ES 350 and RX 350 vehicles in the United States. In the latest phase of the US campaign started on February 22, she said, Toyota wrote to owners and dealers of 128,800 Avalon and 89,000 RAV4 vehicles, asking them to bring their cars in for the one-hour repair job. "Separately in Japan we announced in October the repair of 45,000 vehicles for the same cause. The models include the Harrier and Estima," she said.

I am married to sir Gerald bobby White who worked with British Judicial commission in Chelsea England for over a decade before he died on the 5th of July in the yr 2007. We were married for fifteen years without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for two weeks. before his death he made a vow to use his wealth for the down trodden and the less privileged in the society. Since his death i decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home. When my late husband was alive he kept 4 Million Pounds with one the bank in europe. presently, this funds is still with the bank. Recenlty, my doctor told me that I would not last for the next 4 months due to a rare form of cancer of the pancreas. Though what disturbs me most is my stroke. Making 1st million by age 30

I have always been hearing of people saying that their goal is to make their first $1 million by age 30. However recently, I have stopped hearing that. Is it that with inflation, making first $1 million by age 30 is no longer a big deal? So its no longer qualified to be a lofty aspiration?
  7. http://www.forbes.com/2009/09/29/automobil...tos-toyota.html Runaway Toyota Recall Joann Muller, 09.29.09, 06:00 PM EDT In its biggest recall ever, carmaker warns that floor mat could jam accelerator. DETROIT -- Toyota Motor said Tuesday it will soon issue a recall for at least 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles to fix a potential safety problem caused by a car's floor mat jamming the accelerator. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, meanwhile, urged motorists not to wait for a fix. "This is an urgent matter," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "For everyone's sake, we strongly urge owners of these vehicles to remove mats or other obstacles that could lead to unintended acceleration." The impending U.S. recall, the largest in Toyota's ( TM - news - people ) history, followed a horrific crash last month in San Diego in which a mat was suspected of snagging a gas pedal on a runaway Lexus, ending with a fiery crash that killed four family members. A minute before the crash, the driver called police to say the car had no brakes and the accelerator was stuck. The runaway car was doing more than 120 mph when it hit a sport-utility vehicle, launched off an embankment, rolled several times and burst into flames. The car, equipped with all-weather floor mats, was on loan from a dealership while the driver's own vehicle was being repaired. "The tragic accident in San Diego was certainly an eye opener for all of us," said Senior Vice President Irving Miller, prompting the company to review previous allegations of unintended acceleration caused by floor mat interference. Miller said the company could not quantify the number of complaints, nor could it estimate the cost of the safety campaign. The affected vehicles include 2007-2010 Camry, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2004-2009 Prius, 2005-2010 Tacoma, 2007-2010 Tundra, 2007-2010 Lexus ES 350 and 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS350. NHTSA said the advisory was precipitated by "continued reports of vehicles accelerating rapidly after release of the accelerator pedal." The agency said the use of unsecured mats was partly to blame, along with the particular configuration of the accelerator pedals in the affected vehicles. Adding to the potential danger: In cars with keyless ignition, a driver must hold the on-off switch for three seconds in order to shut off the engine.

  13. Let to roam free for months PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia) - MALAYSIA allowed a Singaporean Islamic terror suspect to remain free for months so that he might lead authorities to other militants, an official said on Monday. Mas Selamat Kastari was captured in Malaysia's southern state of Johor on April 1, more than a year after he escaped from a high-security prison in neighbouring Singapore in February 2008 by wriggling out a bathroom window. Officials were aware that Mas Selamat had fled to Malaysia from 'the moment he came to our country', Malaysian Home Ministry Secretary General Mahmood Adam said in an interview with The Associated Press. - suan WKS ah... 'We have a very good (police intelligence agency) here,' Mr Mahmood said. He did not say when exactly Mas Selamat came to Johor or whether Malaysia told Singapore about his whereabouts. Mas Selamat, the alleged Singapore commander of the Al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiyah group, evaded a massive manhunt in the city-state and slipped into Malaysia by swimming across a narrow strip of sea that separates the two countries. Police monitored Mas Selamat's movements instead of arresting him immediately because 'the most important (thing) sometimes is not the particular target, the most important (thing) sometimes is the networking', Mr Mahmood said. Mas Selamat alone is not as valuable as who is behind him, Mr Mahmood said. Mas Selamat lived in a Malaysian village of about 100 people, rarely going out or mixing with other residents, before being captured by Malaysian commandos. Mr Mahmood declined to say whether authorities are on the verge of making further arrests, but stressed that Malaysia remained 'very safe and secure'. Malaysia's government last week announced it would hold Mas Selamat for two years under a security law that allows for detention without trial. Prime Minister Najib Razak said officials want to obtain more information from Mas Selamat, calling him a 'threat to national security'. -- AP Wong can't sing really thick skin enough to still remain in the force..shame..
  14. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../427284/1/.html LTA awards S$368 million contract for 22 new trains SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority has awarded a S$368 million contract for 22 new trains for the North-South and East-West Lines. The trains are scheduled to be progressively delivered to Singapore from 2011 till 2012. With the 22 new trains and modifications for an additional track at Jurong East station, LTA says commuters will experience a shorter waiting time and a more comfortable ride on trains during peak periods. The modifications and new trains will increase the capacity of the North-South, East-West Lines by about 15 per cent and enable the lines to meet projected demand till 2020. 1) shorter waiting time maybe 2) more comfortable ride??? how to when smrt already remove most of the seats in current trains inorder to squeeze in more passengers and are there any train stewardess serving me or massaging me during the journey? 3) spend S$368 million just to increase the capacity by abt 15%, well spent and wise??? 4) to meet the projected demand till 2020 whereas the trains will only be delivered 2011/2012, does that mean the trains will only be used for abt 8-9 yrs before the next change?

She repeatedly to negotiate with the banks, not only to their disappointment, was the freezing of accounts. Now, she resorted to the law, to overseas Chinese back to the bank deposits. 19. After seeing the last weekends games, I could only sum up one thing about the Reds (Liverpool & Man U) are, they are wasting million of pound on 2 flops........ Liverpool : spending 20 million pound on Robbie Keane for running around aimlessly and shooting like secondary school boys playing for their school in inter school soccer competition ........ . Few times caught him passing to no man lands.... and doesn't click well with Torres until Babel came into the field. Man U : spending 30.7 million pound on Dimitar Berbatov who is just as aimless as RK throughout the game against Chelsea. He even help to block a shot by Darren Fletcher in the opening 10 minutes from inside the penatly box. I was hoping that he will be replaced but instead, Park was replace by John O'Shea and Carlos Tevez was warming the bench. Poor Rooney had to play in midfield and at times help in defence (receive a yellow) where he is a striker by nature. Where is Berbatov SAF weird....... But should give both of them full marks when they were in Spurs as 2 aimless strikers combine well just like the scientific term - 2 negative add together gave positive results... ...... So now split the 2 and they are lost...... Why Liverpool pay 20 million pound on a 28 yrs old striker and refuse to pay 17 million pound on a defensive midfielder Barry........ RB another weird...... My 2 cent worth of commence........

  22. Thief nailed selling a million stolen screws Fri Sep 28, 2007 1:42 PM ET BERLIN (Reuters) - A German factory worker stole over a million screws from his employer and skewed the market with his cheap stolen goods, police said Friday. "In the end, it became obvious that screws were being sold for much less than they usually cost," said a spokesman for police in the southern city of Wuerzburg. Over two years, the 33-year-old assembly plant worker smuggled between 2,000 and 7,000 screws out of work each night, and auctioned them on an Internet site, police said. The scheme cost his firm around 110,000 euros ($156,000). The man confessed after officers raided his home.
