  1. Hi All, I discovered that nowadays, insurance companies will use the number of reported incident you made to price your insurance premium. This is regardless of whether you are at fault or not, or whether any claim is being paid out. As long as you made a report, they will use it to increase your premium. I need to renew my insurance soon, went through an agent to get quote from RSA after declaring that I have an accident 2 years ago. The premium was $9xx. When I decided to renew with them, they pointed out I have made another report last year. Despite telling them that last year incident was not my fault because I was hit by another car from the rear while my car is stopped, and I didn't made a claim against the other party, RSA still increase my premium to $10xx. DA also practise the same method in pricing premium. So the lesson learnt is that if you do not intend to make a claim, do not report the accident even though your inurance company ask you to. You only penalize yourself.
  2. Cheaper parts? AFP Wednesday, Jan 04, 2012 TOKYO - Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp. said Wednesday it would build a new engine factory in Indonesia in a bid to help boost output of small cars in the fast-growing Southeast Asian market. The car and motorcycle maker has spent 10 billion yen (S$167 million) on a 1.3 million square-metre (14 million square-foot) site in an industrial park outside Jakarta for its third Indonesian factory, Dow Jones Newswires said. The Nikkei business daily separately said Suzuki's total investment in the project would reach 30 billion yen. The daily also said the investment is part of the company's efforts to boost its production capacity in Indonesia to 150,000 vehicles from the current 120,000. Auto sales in Indonesia jumped by about 60 per cent from a year earlier to around 760,000 vehicles in 2010, the Nikkei said, adding that Indonesia likely became the biggest auto market in Southeast Asia last year. Immediate confirmation of the reports was not available as the company was closed for the extended New Year holiday.

  4. Hi all, need to warn all potential car buyer of this car broker Tony n a used car shop Itrust. On e 2nd of dec which is about 10days ago,i collected a 2nd hand mazda 6 from this Itrust.E person who delt with me was Tony.Out of these 10days i own this car,i only drove for 2days n e rest of e days it was in workshop!!! When i first viewed e car, this broker told mi that this car everything is Ok!jus that e aircon gas no more n said that its cheap thing asking mi to settle on my own.Fine i told him.few 10 bucks i will settle on my own. After driving for 1day,i drove to a workshop n mechanic told mi that e fan is no running!so,i called that Tony n told him what e mechanic said.He then asked mi to drive to his workshop at AMK autohub.left e car that for 2days n repair cost is $240.Tony returned mi $100 which i have given him as i requested to loan from OCBC n buying my own insurance. He promised to fork out $200 from his pocket to help settle this aircon thingy but when he met me at AMK autohub,he returned me e $100 saying that "this $100 i return u".i thought he is gonna return mi $100 n foot e bill of $240 as well but he asked mi to foot e bill!Of course i talked back saying that he promised to cover up to $200!then he took out another $50 n showed mi his wallet saying that he no money liao! Fine,$100+$50=$150 so i jus need to pay $90.since $90 is not a big amount,i went to settle e bill n drove off. Now os e 2nd problem, when e day i collected this car,i demanded at least $20 petrol in e tank n Tony said ok but during collection, there was none!so when passing him e $100 which i promised him,i deducted $20 n he said can.First thing i do after i drove off,i went to e nearest petrol station to pump $20.after pumping,i noticed e petrol gauge din move at all!maybe too little petrol i thought so i went to pump another $20!But still it did not move at all!So i went to another workshop to have it checked n they said e fuel filter n fuel sensor spoilt.Another 4days in workshop!this time round,Tony said that he is a broker n itrust told him that they dun wanna hold any resposibilites which i reprimanded him!!!i told him will u want to buy such a car?!!if u want,i sell u! Then he kept saying that this car is under consignment,he cant do much.Fine,i said i wanna go down to itrust motor n talk to them.but he kept stopping mi from going down.saying that he will help mi to talk to itrust bla bla bla!Ended up telling mi that itrust dun wanna hold responsibility again! Then today after collecting e car which costed $570 for e repair,i went down to itrust.to my surprise, itrust moved!n a salesman beside told mi that they moved 2days after i collected my ride which Tony also knew. I think to finish e whole story, will take u guys at least 30mins to finish reading. To cut it short,i m gonna lodge a CASE complaint tomorrow. This is to warn u guy not to trust this shop itrust n this car broker Tony.if u c any car ad in sgcarmart n e seller name is T.M,thats him.

  7. Hi guys, can I get some advise on the above? Recently got into an accident and one of the rim was damaged. The authorized workshop told me that surveyor says that they cannot find the same model of rim to cover the damaged one. They will refund me $120 and I can get my own full set rims or top up $300 to get their full set rims. Is this normal with all insurance coverage and workshops?

  10. Good news for all! The CaseTrust-SVTA scheme is going to be officially launched from 1st July onwards - I just attended the press conference this morning. Anyway, Christopher Tan from ST has already posted the write-up online here, and I've put it in this post for all of you to reference from. ----- June 24, 2009 CASETRUST SCHEME 39 motor traders join By Christopher Tan SENIOR CORRESPONDENT Case president Yeo Guat Kwang said the scheme is not bent on dispute settlement, but is one that is 'dispute-avoidance'. -- PHOTO: BT THE motor industry, which accounts for the second highest number of consumer complaints here, has launched a scheme to lead car buyers to trustworthy dealers and away from the 'black sheep'. From July, buyers can zoom in on 39 firms in the so-called CaseTrust scheme started by the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) and the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association (SVTA). The cohort represents about 5 per cent of all authorised distributors, parallel importers and used car traders here. The 39 were among 66 which applied to be accredited but did not meet the requirements. These include having in place a transparent and fair buyer's agreement and an insurance bond of $50,000 which will be used to settle any customer disputes that might arise. But Case president Yeo Guat Kwang said the scheme is not bent on dispute settlement, but is one that is 'dispute-avoidance'. But should disputes arise, the CaseTrust programme has a mediation process in place. It will be chaired by five members, including Mr Dennis Lim, a former magistrate. SVTA president Neo Nam Heng hopes all motor traders will strive to join the CaseTrust scheme. The first 39 firms, largely parallel importers, are: # Acfas Auto; # Alfa Credit; # Apricar; # Autopoint Motoring; # Autorich; # BKW Automobiles; # Car Times Automobile; # Cars & Stars; # Chai Giap Auto Trading; # Chicago Associates; # Convince Auto; # Good Year Automobile; # Hoe Beng Auto Trading; # Lake View Credit; # Lay Auto; # M9 Automobile; # Mayfair Motoring; # Motor-East; # Motor-way; # Omnicars Automobile; # Pang's Motor Trading; # Prime Cars Credit; # Prime Motor & Leasing; # RTMT Motor; # Shuang Hup Credit; # Starbright Auto; # Swee Seng Motors; # Tan Motor Car Enterprises; # Tan Wei Auto Trading; # Tay Motor & Credit; # Teck Wei Credit; # Thiam Heng Motor; # Think One Automobile & Trading; # Village Credit; # Vincar; # World of Wheels; # Yong Chuan Motor Trading; # Yong Lee Seng Motor; # Yuni-Ku ---- Just a curious question, how do you all feel about this CaseTrust-SVTA scheme? Do you all feel more assured? Any issues with any of the traders listed here (please do not name names, just comment only)?

  16. SINGAPORE : Motor insurance premiums will continue to go up this year as insurers look to recoup underwriting losses, said the president of the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA), Derek Teo. GIA said the industry's underwriting losses widened to S$48.9 million, some S$4 million higher than in 2009. Last year, the average motor insurance premium rose 6.5 per cent to S$1,100. In 2009, it had increased by a larger 20 per cent. GIA said the two major floods last year led to 428 motor insurance claims amounting to S$11.6 million. The number of reported accidents in Singapore also remained high at some 162,500 last year. Motor insurance accounts for the largest slice of the general insurance pie, making up roughly 40 per cent of the industry. - CNA/al

  19. Sharing my experience with this workshop, out of 10 customer maybe 8 or 9 of them are satisfied with them but most unluckily i belong to the 1 or 2 who is most unsatisfied with them. After several phone calls and checking with them, i finally decided to try them for the first time for my upcoming timing belt change. They assured me one whole day can do; i made an appointment in advance to ensure they have the free capacity and it was a Monday. When i was there observing their mechanic doing my car, he gives me zero confidence and true enough, there was problems. I was unable to collect my car on Monday and had to leave it there overnight till Tuesday. We took it for a test run and the engine was producing abnormal noises. I was too kind and took a taxi home at my own cost; they did mention that they will try to do something for me; probably some discount in the end of the bill but this was not the end of the story. I am sure if this had happen to anyone of you here, you would have bang hard and demand compensation in terms of replacement car or taxi claim; but i just took it too easy on them. Tuesday call me say i can only collect my car on Saturday. Due to timing belt change error, caused damage to my valves. Was told changed 8 valves (dunno how true but definitely not at my cost). Again i was just at their mercy and they offered me nothing for compensation. I call them everyday to find out the status as i wanted my car back asap and also the job done properly (but it was already too late, regretted deeply my decision to go there). Saturday went to collect my car late afternoon. When asked to pay the bill (for the timing belt change and others i requested earlier), there was no discount or compensation offered at all. Their excuse is cos they incurred costs for overhaul my engine due to their error. LL i pay and go off as i just dont feel like bringing this further anymore and in my mind i have decided to share this with everyone online. If i have more time, i will certainly share this with other related car forums as they service most conti brands. Car feels very different. Engine vibrates during low revs. You can even feel vibration at the pedal. Went back complain, they say cannot feel it and ask me observe. Was given 6 months warranty. Do not try this workshop. There are many others out there more capable. Just my luck.
  20. Saw this car moving and stopping, moving and stopping at my car park checking cars which park at red lots yesterday. Saw two guys inside and I was wondering what they were doing. To my surprise, they were carpark wardens, checking on car which park on red lots. Nowaday, no need walk liao, all sit inside the car. These people must be earning big bucks, can drive car issueing parking fines. So guy, if you do not live at the block, do not park at red lot.
