  1. Here's a break from all the negativity surrounding the circuit breaker measures and our roads. A bunch of Singaporeans have joined hands to help donate 121 drums of surface sanitisers to 44 different foreign dormitories. According to Christopher Kwek's facebook post, many of these people who have donated are from our local car clubs, with a few private companies joining in the fun. With each drum holding 209 litres worth of sanitisers, the total cost of the donation amounted to an impressive $20,000. Curious which car clubs donated? Find you answers in the list below!

  3. from Yahoo : GOCE satellite set to crash down to Earth in coming days, but experts aren't sure where it will land A European space satellite that has been mapping the Earth’s gravitational field is set to crash down to Earth in the coming days, and it could provide a “real treat” for space watchers. But could GOCE (pronounced “GO-chay”), which is set to make an “uncontrolled entry” into the atmosphere, present a risk to anyone on the ground? “For the most part, these uncontrolled re-entries are the norm,” Space.com’s Tariq Malik told Yahoo News in a phone interview. “It’s not so much that we’ve been lucky to not get hit by one as it is the planet is so big.” The European Space Agency does not know exactly when GOCE, short for Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer, will crash to Earth, and experts there don't know exactly where it will land. But the general consensus is that it will re-enter Earth’s atmosphere sometime between Friday and Monday. “It’s rather hard to predict where the spacecraft will re-enter and impact,” the ESA’s Rune Floberghagen told the New York Times. “Concretely our best engineering prediction is now for a re-entry on Sunday, with a possibility for it slipping into early Monday.” And if all goes well, people may be able to watch the satellite safely enter the atmosphere and explode into a fireball of smaller fragments. “The one thing I’m really wondering about is where the re-entry might be visible from,” Malik said. “It’s very instructive to watch this stuff burn up. From the ground, it’s like watching a giant fireball. If that happens, viewers on the ground could really get a treat.” Watch your head as it might fall onto you ....   4. Tweaks to the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) system will be finalised in the coming weeks, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) as it wrapped up its public consultation exercise on Monday. LTA said it has received diverse views from over 3,700 people who gave feedback. Most of them agreed that the current way the COEs are categorised -- based on engine capacity -- should be reviewed. In recent years, luxury car models have become more common in Category A, which is meant for the mass market or small cars of not more than 1,600cc each. To tackle this, the transport minister in May called for ideas on how the system could be refined. Most felt that categorisation should be based on the Open Market Value (OMV) of the car. More than 60 percent of those who took part in LTA's online survey felt that Category A should be set aside for cars with OMV of not more than S$20,000. Noel Davenash, a participant, said: "The best way to choose mass market would be through the cost of the car, and that's really all that boils down to. "Most people who buy mass market cars want something that is a bit cheaper, versus someone who wants something a bit more prestigious or luxurious." But there are those who feel that the OMV of a model can fluctuate due to variations in exchange rates and car specifications. This means the same model could fall into different COE categories at different times. Some voiced concern that the criteria, such as OMV and engine power, could be circumvented. Others suggested keeping engine capacity as a criterion, but factoring in other criteria such as engine power. They felt this will be good as engine power can be reviewed every few years to keep pace with technological developments. A majority of those surveyed also supported the proposal to levy a surcharge on multiple-car owners. But LTA said there was a lack of consensus on whether the levy should be imposed on an individual or a household -- and whether it should be a one-off or a recurring surcharge. There were also concerns that a surcharge could penalise bigger households, and that this could be easily circumvented. Many also wanted a pay-as-you-bid system for COEs, where every successful bidder pays exactly what he or she has bid. Some believe this will result in more conservative bidding, and therefore lower COE prices. But experts said this would not be as efficient. They argued that the current system, where all successful bidders pay the lowest market-clearing price results in the most efficient way and that bid prices are open to public scrutiny. Professor Ng Yew Kwang, from the Nanyang Technological University's Economics Division, said: "Under the pay-as-you-bid (system), everyone must underbid, and different people have different psychology. "Some underbid by a lot, and some underbid by less. Then the item may go to the wrong person, to the person who may not value it very highly." There was also a strong perception that motor dealers are driving up COE premiums and should be banned from bidding, but some said this would be more inconvenient for buyers. But others felt this would not help, as long as there is a strong demand for the limited supply of COEs. Some felt dealers typically commit to car purchase agreements to absorb the additional cost should COE prices move up higher than expected and thus have every incentive to bid low once a purchase agreement is signed. Some also felt that such a ban could be easily circumvented by buyers who may ask dealers to bid in their name. A good number of buyers also prefer to have the convenience of dealers bidding for them. I was slowly doing reversing while he chiong and try to squeeze through. bang into 3 panels. two doors and last panel. anyway, say so much also no use. i reverse sure i lose right? so after negotiating, almost settle with him 1.5k cash. Last minute did not materialise and he went PM to repair. 6 moths later, still no update from my insurer and this morning called them, guy said case closed long ago 6k. wah lao.. i tot supposed to inform me if any claims made against my policy? made me worry for so many months that it will be a giant claims. he went back PM and changed 3 panels and est 5 days loss of use. 6k quite ok rite? never tock me i think. juz do good his car. I just curious next round what is the increase in premiums like? I heard under 10k claims the increase should be minimal rite? vis-a-vis paying 1.5k to private settlement, i should be "earn" rite?

Honda wants the Acura brand to be more well known, as you can see the NSX is coming , they have the all new ILX and RDX all new RL will be coming soon which will replace the name as RLX , all new MDX is coming soon too ! FRom CNA : SingTel secures BPL broadcasts rights for 3 more seasons Posted: 10 October 2012 2252 hrs SINGAPORE: SingTel on Wednesday announced that it has secured the broadcast rights to all 380 Barclays Premier League (BPL) matches for the next three seasons commencing August next year. These rights were acquired on a non-exclusive basis, meaning that SingTel is not obliged to share the content with their competitors. Mr Allen Lew, SingTel's country chief officer (Singapore) and CEO of Group Digital L!fe, said: "We are delighted to bring all the BPL matches 'live' to Singapore for another three seasons. "Along with our recent acquisition of the rights to the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, FA Cup, Serie A, Ligue 1 and other prominent football tournaments, fans can be assured of SingTel's strong commitment to deliver the most comprehensive football experience on mio TV, the home of football." The matches will continue to be available online on miostadium.com and on mobile via SingTel's BPL application. Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "mio Stadium has provided Singapore fans with great local programming and coverage of the Barclays Premier League action in a comprehensive and innovative manner. We are pleased to be continuing our partnership with SingTel for another three seasons." In response to SingTel's announcement, StarHub issued a statement saying: "We are surprised that FA Premier League (FAPL) did not conduct a tender for Singapore, departing from all past practice. We will be seeking clarification from FAPL before deciding on our next course of action. We will be keen to acquire the BPL only if the price is right." Well............. have to stick with SingTel for the next 4 years.... I subscribe MIO TV only for BPL but it seems getting better deal now with Champion League, Europa Cup, La Liga, Serie A and French Ligue 1 thrown in starting this year ...
  16. Trials which could yield the next generation of the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system are under way along Woodlands Avenue 12. Last year, four consortia - Kapsch TrafficCom, MHI Engine System Asia and NCS, ST Electronics (Info-Comm Systems) and IBM Singapore, and Watchdata Technologies and Beijing Watchdata System - had won the tender to develop technologies to replace the current gantry system in a timeframe of 18 months. The four consortia had also been allocated a seed fund of S$1 million each for the project and might include a satellite-tracking system. In response to queries, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that the System Evaluation Test (SET) had begun in May and "is a technological trial to help identify a technological solution most suited for Singapore". "Woodlands Avenue 12 is a suitable site to conduct on-road testing as it is a relatively straight road with high traffic volumes and a good mix of different vehicle types," said the LTA spokesperson. A visit to the site showed that four black-coloured cantilevers, which are about the height of lamp posts, have been erected along the road about 100m apart. A variety of surveillance cameras, reflectors and sensors were mounted on the vertical portions of the structures overhanging the road. The LTA said that the tests, which are expected to be completed "around the end of the year", will not cause disruption to other motorists. "At the end of the SET, LTA will assess the performance of the various solutions to determine whether an appropriate technological solution is available and can form the basis of a next generation ERP system," said the spokesperson. However, he added that as the project is in "very early stages", "the next generation ERP systems, if technically feasible, is still some years away." In Parliament earlier this year, Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo had said that it was too early to speculate when the next generation ERP system, or ERP 2, will be introduced, but added that the LTA would have to make sure that it can be reliably used for road pricing. Posted on 11 Sep 2012 Next flight in 2 weeks' time, Batavia Air tells 25 stranded travellers STOMPer Sarmadi was appalled when he and other passengers were told that the next Batavia Air flight from Bandung to Singapore was in two weeks' time. Said the STOMPer: "Just imagine after a five-day stay in an another country and you are just three hours away from going back home to Singapore and are about to check-in at the airport when they tell you, 'Sorry, there's no flight going back to Singapore as the aeroplane is under maintenance'. "The next question you ask is when is the next flight and when can you get back home. The answer given is two weeks from now. "That was what happened on the Sep 6 2012 at Bandung Airport departing to Singapore under Batavia Air. "And the staff said the next flight will be on Sep 20 -- either you wait or you can take your money (refund) back. "The next thing my family and I did was to quickly rush to AirAsia Booth to ask for seats back to Singapore. "Eventually they have and we asked the Batavia staff to top up whatever cost that was going to be added. "But the staff said 'No they don't practise this'. "After a long argument which involved around 25 people, they finally gave a suggestion for us to take their -three-hour bus journey and travel to Singapore from Jakarta by Lions Air. "Upon arrival at Jakarta, the Batavia staff who followed us said that there are no seats available. "In the end they booked for us AirAsia instead to go back to Singapore from Jakarta."

  19. SINGAPORE: Singapore's economy will experience growth slower than in the last 10 years. This, against the backdrop of a more developed economy, internal resources constraints and fierce competition from the region. But Singapore needs to strive for growth to improve the collective well-being of its people. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said this at the Economic Society of Singapore's annual dinner on Friday evening. Since 2003, Singapore's economy grew an average 6.3 per cent per year. Mr Lee said: "Singapore cannot avoid slower growth in the next decade and beyond. This is natural because we are now more developed and we are also running up against land and labour constraints, especially as we reduce the inflow of foreign workers. "Plus competition is fiercer, not only from hundreds of millions of hungry workers in the emerging economies, but also from new technologies that will transform industries all over the world."   20. I have said before that Kenny might be sacked end of season when top 4th finish was out of grasp. Sadly, it came true. FSG must have the balls of steel to sack a legend in the eyes of all Liverpool fans worldwide. However, it is also such firm decision that gives me the assurance that the owners do mean business. Credit to King Kenny, though utterly disappointed, he carried himself like a true legend after the sacking. He asked fans not to jump to any conclusion as the owners must have their reasons for doing what they did. He urged the board and fans to support the new guy like how they had supported him. That leads to the next question. Who is the new guy? Whoever now can tell you for sure who he is going to be, is pure bullocks. Even FSG do not know. They have set forth their criteria and those who met it, will be invited for an interview. From what I have gathered, 2 candidates have already been invited. FSG are looking for one who will be able to take on the project long term, probably 5 years or more. They want the person to have necessary credential, meaning to have won major trophies in his management career. They want someone who has the passion, the hunger and the determination to carry out their plan - to bring glory back to Liverpool. Based on the above, only 3 persons whom I think meet the criteria and willing to take on the job come to mind - Andrea Villas-Boas, Jurgen Klopp and Rafa Benitez. Let's hope I will not be too far off on this one. Each one of them is a worthy replacement in my opinion.   21. Hi guys, Last Friday, my car was travelling in extreme left lane (lane 3) in KPE when a dumpster lorry came from behind in 2nd lane, hit me in the rear wheel arc. My car fish tailed, cut across to lane 1, I counter steer, spun around 180 degrees and ended up facing the incoming traffic in lane 2. Filed a claim on Saturday. The fxxking lorry drive go tell lie and the company called me say I cut the lorry, that's why accident. Say got video to prove. I challenged him to show the footage and the company bo ji. Gave the company a piece of my mind saying that my wife and me never die in the accident is the driver's luck. Don't push it. Now think think si bay angry... besides filing a claim. What can I do to teach such dangerous drivers a lesson? Can I go report TP? Does anyone have such experience? Can share with me? If not convenient, PM also can.
