  4. The chance of us seeing no opposition after this election very high. Why leh? 1. New Citizens We all know the number of new cirizens must have gone up by a hundred thousand or two since the last election. These voters naturally are pro incumbent party. At least 90% will vote for the party that gave them the chance to come here. The number of eligible voters is only about 2M. In other words, the incumbent can afford a 10% swing in support easily and they will still win the majority. Probably their overall popular vote percentage may drop but it will be between 58% to 63% thereabouts. This can continue and 5 years later, the game will still not change. Just bring in more new citizens then those who swing to the opposition. 2. Singaporeans are afraid Afraid of what, I also dunnoe. Some are afraid of change. Some are afraid their votes can be traced. Most are just afraid of uncertainty cos a substantial percentage of us are employed in either organisations or companies that somehow is linked to the govt. Just add up the SAF, Home Team, Civil services etc etc. At least 300,000 I reckon. Would you risk a career that offers security and some sort of "guaranteed road to riches". Think not. 3. Most just like to complain We just KPKB. Short memory wan. 30 years of nation building and we have all been programmed to work towards the greater good. In other words, some will fall by the wayside. As long as it is not you, you probably wont care. If you do, you just KPKB and sleep over it. There are of course many more reasons but I guess you guys can add to the above. In any case, anyone wanna form a betting pool? I wager clean sweep for the incumbent this coming election. The above are purely my personal opinions and are just meant for tock coc k sing song session on a boring evening. Maybe some of you guys have a different perspective.
  5. where do the $$ come from?? thin air ?? he is irresponsible to make such comment who is going to bear the cost ?? Mr Ma never tell his boss meh
  6. Singaporeans may have to pay higher insurance premiums as a result of the recent devastating 9-magnitude earthquake in Japan. Officials of the General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) said Thursday that the cost of buying insurance from major global reinsurers would increase, and local insurers could pass the cost on to consumers. "What has happened in Japan is unprecedented. I think this will seriously impact many of the global insurers, and the truth is the global insurers provide capacity and protection for all insurers. So what will happen is the cost of capacity will increase, the cost of protection will increase. How much is a big question mark," said Terence Tan, who heads GIA's committee for work injury, personal accident and health insurance. While many big reinsurers set their premium rates at the end of the year, some set their rates at the beginning of April or July. Thus, there could be an impact on insurance premiums in Singapore as early as this year, industry officials said. Segments expected to be affected include motor insurance, and property and casualty insurance. Higher motor insurance Other factors are expected to contribute to a rise in insurance premiums. In the motor insurance segment, young drivers may have to pay more for premiums as the risk to insure them has gone up. Young drivers, those below 25 years old, accounted for 21.9 percent of total personal injuries accidents reported in 2010, up slightly from 21.8 percent the previous year and substantially higher than the 18 percent recorded in 2008. "This is a very alarming trend. You are talking about young drivers, probably fast cars, high speed and serious accidents

  12. Bugatti is reportedly beginning work on the next generation Veyron, and rumor has it that they're looking to hit Ludicrous Speed. Okay, maybe it won't go quite that fast, but with a target of 270 miles per hour, it figures to be pretty darn close. According to AutoExpress, despite losing money on each one it builds, Volkswagen Group has no plans to watch its mighty hypercar fade away, and the next version will stick to the business of shattering perceptions of what a production car can do. Reportedly, the 8.0-liter W16 engine and its quad-turbo setup will return in a similar form as is employed in the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. However, the new car will head to the scales and produce a number far below what we see in current Veyron models. It will achieve this through more extensive use of lightweight alloys and carbon-composite materials. If AE is reading its tea leaves correctly, the new warp-speed Bugatti Veyron to make an appearance sometime in 2013. [source: AutoExpress]

  15. New details on the upcoming 2012 BMW 3-Series - codenamed the F30. The next-generation 3-Series has been expected to be larger and, according to the report, will feature an additional 2 inches of length (5.1 cm) as well as a wider track and longer wheelbase. The 3-Series will come closer in looks to the current 5-Series, adopting the softer features of that new design paradigm of BMW's. A close look at some of the spy shots we've already seen also reveals that the next 3-Series will have shorter overhangs, also allowing for more cabin space. The 3-Series will keep its current mostly forged-aluminum five-link rear suspension and aluminum-intensive double-joint struts at the front. New will be optional adaptive dampers. It may even feature the adaptive anti-roll chassis from the 5-Series. Changes are also expected under the bonnet. An entry-level 1.6 liter turbo, borrowed from MINI, will be tuned to around 150 PS (110 kW). And BMW will fit a direct-injection turbocharged 2.0 liter to the 3-Series to replace some of the output levels currently furnished by the naturally aspirated 3.0 liter 6-cylinder. A 3.0 liter turbocharged straight-six will likely still top the range, though, dialed up a little to around the 320 PS (235 kW) mark from the current 306 PS (225 kW) - as on the current 640i. BMW is expected to fit its 8-speed automatic to the next 3-Series too. For the cabin design, the instrument cluster will get a matte black background with color graphics for the displays in a new arrangement. The 2012 3-Series will share a platform with the smaller next-generation 1-Series (F20), which is expected to debut sometime in 2011. The next 3-Series is expected to be introduced next year too. 16. Here are some photos of the upcoming Lamborghini Murcielago replacement, once referred to as the Jota and possibly to be called the Aventador LP700-4, that were released by Lamborghini but have made the rounds on the Internet as spy photos. The Lambo here is still heavily undercover but the shape of the vehicle appears more discernible in these up-close shots. The Murcielago successor seems up to the task of carrying the Lambo mantle. Lamborghini is still being tight-lipped about certain details of the car, such as the name, even as it lets journalists test drive the vehicle and Lambo's boss has already started shopping the vehicle around to selected customers. The next flagship Lamborghini will come with a new 6.5 liter V12 producing 515 kW (700 PS / 690 bhp) and 690 Nm (509 lb-ft) of torque coupled to a 7-speed single clutch gearbox with independent shifting rods (ISR). It will be extremely lightweight and have a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of 2.9 seconds with a top speed of around 350 km/h (217 mph). Source: Lamborghini via Inside Line
