Nissan has issued a statement denying that it’s in discussions to work with Apple on the US company’s long-rumored autonomous car project. Earlier today the Financial Times reported that Apple had approached the Japanese automaker about a potential partnership “in recent months.” “We are not in talks with Apple,” a Nissan spokesperson tells Reuters. “However, Nissan is always open to exploring collaborations and partnerships to accelerate industry transformation.” That statement doesn’t address whether the talks ever took place, which means it doesn’t directly contradict the Financial Times’ story. That report said that “the contact was brief and the discussions did not advance to senior management levels following divisions over branding for the iPhone maker’s electric vehicles.” The breaking point was said to be Apple’s request that Nissan manufacture cars carrying Apple’s branding. “We have our own customer satisfaction, which comes by car. No way we are going to change the way we make cars,” Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta tells the Financial Times, again stating that talks aren’t happening now without confirming if they ever did. “The way we design, the way we develop, and the way we manufacture is going to be as an automotive manufacturer, as Nissan.” The recent speculation over Nissan comes after Hyundai said it wasn’t in talks with Apple on the project. Hyundai has been the primary subject of rumors over the partnership of late, not least because the Korean carmaker itself issued and swiftly retracted a statement saying it had entered discussions with Apple. Analyst Ming-chi Kuo believes the first Apple car will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and ship in 2025 at the earliest.

Taking our work outside is probably the last thing most would have in mind of doing, especially with the situation we’re facing at this time. Nissan, on the other hand, is proposing just that with a new vehicle concept that features an interesting twist to both the car itself and the remote working approach. Meet the NV350 Office Pod, a concept van that kind of works like a RV (recreational vehicle) or caravan. But instead of a mobile home function, and as implied by its name, the vehicle comes with a built in office space that can be retracted out from its back. As seen from the video of the concept vehicle provided by the automaker, all the driver needs to do is lift the van’s rear door and activate the mechanism that slides the office module out. A very gimmicky feature, but it’s not every day someone gets to say they own a vehicle that can transform. The pod itself resembles a curved-yet-square version of the letter “G” when viewed from the front, where the flat tip of the shape serves as a desk for your laptop or PC. Inside the office module includes a built-in Herman Miller office chair, and you’ll also notice there are openings in the front and back, as well as on the right side. Keep in mind that only the rear opening is windowed up, while the front and side is fully exposed to the elements. So it’s wise not to activate this mode when the weather is not so ideal for an outdoor work trip. But should the weather be fine, the Nissan NV350 Office Pod also offers you with a “balcony” feature so that you can take some time off and relax. As shown in the aforementioned video, this attachment is assembled on the roof of the van, which includes a beach chair, side table, large umbrella and even a ladder to help you get on top. We have no idea where or how this particular set is stored when not in use, but it is suggested that it comes with the overall package. Other than that, the concept van also comes with several other features to make your outdoor work trip comfortable. These include a polycarbonate floor with display, backlight carpeted floor mats, electric shade windows that cover or display the view electronically, glove box with antibacterial UV light, and an AC/DC inverter to power onboard devices (PC, coffee maker, etc). As cool as it looks, there’s no denying that this idea of working remotely via this Nissan concept vehicle is somewhat bizarre. It is likely intended to be used after the current pandemic is resolved, but it also makes sense to use it just to get away from populated areas and embrace nature. That is, if the authorities allow you to do so in the first place, and we don’t think a work pass is going to cut it. Keep in mind that the Nissan NV350 Office Pod is just a concept for now. Anyone got stuck on PIE last evening for more than an hour and half? A few of us in the team did so, no thanks to someone who swerved out at the last minute, causing an accident that required a huge cleaning-up effort from the authorities. Thanks to SG Road Vigilante, we now know what caused the accident which happened at PIE's Steven Road exit in the direction of Jurong, at 630pm. While the accident itself didn't cause any serious injury, it is obvious that the Mazda 3 driver was at fault. According to the comments online, it does look like he or she was trying to avoid a frontal collision in his/her own lane by swerving into lane 2 but that unfortunately meant that the 2 motorcyclists that were lane-spliting, had to fall due to such a move. Kudos to both the tipper truck and the Malaysian van for being reactive to what was happening in front of them! -

In addition to the new engine, the QX50 drops rear-wheel drive in favor of an all-new front-wheel-drive platform and gets the new ProPilot assist technology that debuted on the Nissan Leaf. The QX50 may be the headliner, but the engine is the really interesting bit. This 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four can adjust the the stroke of the pistons on the fly, varying the engine's compression from 8:1 to 14:1, and giving the new midsize crossover improved efficiency and diesel-like torque. It's rated at 268 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, down 57 horses but up 14 pound-feet. Front-wheel-drive models hit 60 mph in 6.7 seconds. That drops to 6.2 seconds with all-wheel drive. Combined fuel economy is 27 mpg for front-wheel-drive QX50s and 26 mpg for all-wheel-drive variants, both up from the abysmal 20 mpg combined rating of the current model. Power is sent through a continuously variable transmission. If it's like other Nissan and Infiniti CVTs, it will be inoffensive if a bit lifeless. We've covered the details of this powertrain extensively already, but it's great to see companies giving more life to the internal combustion engine. The new platform marks a big improvement over the outgoing QX50 in terms of platform rigidity and space efficiency. Rear-wheel drive might be fun, but it's never ideal from a packaging perspective. Cargo capacity is up from 31.6 cubic-feet to 37 cubic-feet. With the seats down, the space expands to 60 cubic feet, up from 50.1 cubic feet. That's not exactly class-leading, but it's no longer among the class-worst. The 2019 QX50 will use a new type of high-tensile steel, improving torsional rigidity by 23 percent and shaving overall weight. NOT in Singapore though. I will say it is a very darling move, given the differences between RAV4 and the new X-Trail (aka Rogue in USA). Or Nissan might be buying those super rundown unit to make its SUV feel better, which would not be a fair comparison so to speak. But I do see the opportunity that it can be done in Singapore, not Nissan vs Toyota though. The first pair that pop up in my mind was Kia Sorento and Mercedes GLB200 (since so many here are comparing these 2 apple and orange, just because both are "around" the same price point - I see lots of different though). But why Cycle and Carriage should consider doing this? Well since there are a pool of potential buyer looking at both models, allowing the test drive of GLB at Kia showroom and Sorento at C&C showroom might actually be a win-win situation, since buyer would be more likely to walk away choosing one of these 2 models represented by the same AD. Nissan is confident that the 2021 Rogue is far better than the Toyota RAV4, which is why they will be offering free test drives in the rival model to potential customers at its dealers this December. The automaker expects around half of its 1,074 U.S. dealers to embrace this unconventional strategy, which is not without risk, because “a percentage of customers are inevitably going to value the differences between the models differently than expected”, Tyson Jominy, J.D. Power’s Power Information Network VP, said, cited by AutoNews. The news outlet got its hands on a video message sent to dealers by Nissan’s VP of Sales and Regional Operations, Judy Wheeler, who said: “We know that when consumers check out the all-new Rogue side by side with the RAV4, they will be amazed by our standard, advanced technology, premium design… and, most of all, outstanding overall value.” Wheeler told AutoNews that “when you test drive our vehicle versus the major competitors, you’re going to end up purchasing this vehicle because it’s that much better.” Toyota already knows of Nissan’s strategy to use a rented RAV4 to try and sell more Rogues, and they are actually “flattered”. “We are confident their dealers and customers will appreciate the quality, value, versatility and safety features that have made the RAV4 the no.1-selling (compact) SUV in the United States”, said the brand’s chief of sales, Bob Carter. The unorthodox campaign is known internally as ‘Rogue Gone Rogue’ and is part of a four-month advertising push described by Wheeler as “the most robust marketing campaign in Nissan’s history”. The 2021 Nissan Rogue has an MSRP of $25,650. Power is supplied by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, making 181 HP and 245 Nm of torque, mated to a standard CVT and FWD – with AWD being a $1,400 premium on all grades. The 2021 Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, is priced from $26,050, and comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, rated at 203 HP and 249 Nm, paired to an eight-speed transmission, in the base model.

Dubbed the “RE-LEAF,” this 100% electric disaster response car takes the Leaf passenger platform and outfits it with a slew of life-saving essentials. For instance, it ditches the rear seats of the production car in favor of a roomy storage area for essential equipment and a bulk-head cage to protect the drivers. In the trunk, it’s been fitted with a pull-out desk and an integrated energy management system, allowing for efficient, coordinated responses in the field. On the exterior, the RE-LEAF features a set of weatherproof plug sockets enabling 110- to 230-volt devices to be powered directly from the car’s battery. But to get the Leaf into disaster-stricken environments, Nissan needed to make some changes to the ride. As such, the RE-LEAF has been raised by 70mm, fitted with a skid plate, and given a set of beefy all-terrain tires.

We always hear the phrase "power is nothing without control" In this latest blog post, we now can show you exactly what that phrase means. Shared furiously among many Whatapp chats is a video of a recent accident involving a Nissan R35 GT-R losing control in one of the tunnels of the CTE. The matt silver GT-R which does not look stock at all, should be producing quite a bit more than the stock 480bhp (an remap will easily bring the power figures near 600bhp). It can be seen barreling along the tunnel on 11 July 2020 at quite a high speed before losing it all and smashing into the rear of a Mercedes-Benz CLS350. What did you think made the driver lose control of his AWD GT-R? Could it be a case of malfunction on the car that caused the car to go bonkers? Let us in the comment box!

Volkswagen's got a new emblem and BMW has redesigned its badge, and now Nissan has done that as well. Nissan revealed the redesigned logo today along with the 2022 Ariya, an all-electric crossover. It is the first vehicle to feature the new badge, which will be rolled out to future models. New: Old: The new logo is still a circle intersected by the name Nissan in capital letters, but the name is more freestanding now, with less of a physical connection to the circle that it intersects. The circle is incomplete in the new logo, with a small gap where the Nissan name bisects it, while the old logo's outer ring was a solid circle. Another noticeable change is in the spacing of the lettering. Nissan says it began the redesign process in 2017, with the aim to make the new logo "thin, light, and flexible." Another requirement was to make it look good when illuminated on future EV models, which will have 20 LEDs lighting up the Nissan logo on the front of the car. Like other automakers who've changed their logos, it's flatter and simpler for better adaptation to digital use. The logo will start to appear across the brand’s various platforms gradually, Nissan said.

This is not how you keep your distance from others on the road

We know that all of us should be keeping a safe distance from each other in such times. But we reckon these guys that have been caught on video might have taken it abit too far. This video, as posted by SG Road Vigilante, shows a slow moving camera car (claimed to be doing 80km/h but it looks more like 60km/h to us) that was traveling on KPE towards TPE chancing upon a bunch or cars that were abit too keen to distance themselves from any traffic around them. Apparently this happened on the wee hours of 16th May morning and from what we can gather, the lead car is a R34 Nissan Skyline that zoomed past the camera car at a speed that seemed to double the legal speed limit of the KPE. Its hard to tell from the video but other than the Skyline, we could also identify a few other cars including a Suzuki Swift, a Volkswagen Golf, a Volkswagen Jetta (that might have been the same guy that was charged for organising illegal street racing), a Mitsubishi Evo 9 and a couple of Honda Civics. Interestingly, most of the comments were attacking the camera car for being slow. We wonder why. On the other hand, there will always be keyboard warriors that come out with weird and silly comments like the example below... 95563179_890011821514718_986642270115562833_n.mp4 -

Another day and another careless driver. Today, we have for you guys an accident that happened at the junction of Orchard Road and Buyong Road. As seen from the photo, a SMRT cab has collided with a Nissan truck which in turn has flipped over. We hope those involved in the accident are alright as of press time, though there is currently no news on whether there are any injuries or not. 8e96337c-f950-4b82-a6ef-90577e45cdbc.MP4 From the video, we can understand a bit better what caused the truck to flip over. That said, we have no idea why the taxi slowly crept forward into the junction although the lights did not turn green. We did note that his brake lights weren't on all when he came into frame, suggesting to us that he could have fallen asleep at the wheel, letting the car roll forward into traffic.

A Nissan qashqai was caught on video going out of control last friday in Bishan. As seen in the low-resolution video, the white SUV crashed through the fence and onto the wrong direction of Bishan Road while doing a flip and more. Thankfully, the lost of control of the car did not cost any lives. According to SG Road Vigilante, The 80-year-old driver and his 74-year-old female passenger were conscious when they were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Obviously, there is going to be some negativity once the driver's age has been revealed... Thankfully there are some nice people out there that are more understanding...

my aunt's one a lot of problems, i need to help her solve it. idling got jerking problem, moving off low power, i researched, seems like some ignition coil problem, may be engine mounting too. air-con sometimes draw in outside air when too cold. thanks all.

My car coe ends next week. I don't intend to replace it as cars are too expensive nowadays.So how does one go about scrapping or deregister it to get back the PARF cash? Its a nissan sunny, thus prob body worthless?

A little surprised that car horns can break down. I mean, my Sylphy is coming to 9 years old only. I was told by the workshop that it is a common problem to Nissan cars. It's not the horn but the contact on the steering wheel that's worn. Appreciate fellow motorists in this forum can advise where to find distributors who supply the "pad" (to be mounted on steering wheel) for the horn. Perhaps, what is a reasonable price to replace the horn? Thanks! Also, looking for manual air horn to save cost. Hahaha!

just like to know if any one has any idea on those mixed development private apartments that have retails and F&B on the ground levels and residential units on the top. I have notice that along balestier road there are abt 3 such developments popping up....wonder if these has good investment potential? hows the management fee like ?
