  1. Dear Esteemed Readers, It is with a heavy heart and a huge dose of disillusionment that I would like to share with you a personal anecdote about the Nissan Qashqai. Firstly, to be fair, with respect to the road tax- and petrol- saving 1.2 L Qashqai, the first five years of driving had been a breeze. However, all heel broke loose, merely a day after my Qashqai's 6th birthday last September. The chronology of my Qashqai's meltdown is as follows (I apologise for any technical typo): A. Replacement of the faulty (1) Evaporator Cooling Coil $320 (6 Sep 2021) (2) Dashbox $280 (6 Sep 2021) (3) Tow Truck Activation $140 (29 Oct 2021) (3) Thermostat Housing $270 (30 Oct 2021) (4) Manifold Gadget $60 (30 Oct 2021) (5) Fan Motor - Air Con $320 (30 Oct 2021) B. Dismantling and Assembly Costs in total $470 C. Locked gearbox with inability to shift the gear from Parking to Drive As recently as last December, it had taken me an average of 5 to 10 minutes to wait for the gearbox to disengage and move off but the situation dovetailed to a complete lockdown last month in which I have to use a pen to depress the Shift Lock button in every instance of gear shifting. D. Busted Speakers The last straw that broke the camel's back occurred yesterday when suddenly, the speakers just blared as loud as a car horn within the car (even at the lowest volume), the intensity of which still leaves me shell-shocked. I sincerely hope that the aforementioned sequence of unfortunate events only applies to yours truly but on a cautious note, I would strongly urge you to re-consider your buying option upon selection of a second-hand Qashqai. Thank you for reading.
  2. Sad news: https://www.straitstimes.com/life/motoring/fast-lane-veteran-singapore-racer-william-lyou-dies-teslas-model-y-suv-starts-delivery-in-august He used to sell Nissans, and I even took a drive with him. Nice man... RIP https://topgear.com.sg/features/remembering-the-late-william-lyou-20th-july-1948-13th-july-2022-by-leslie-chang William is known for speaking slowly, but thinking (and driving!) very quickly. His ability to observe and react to any given situations faster than others made him a natural leader. He also had the ability to think outside the box which often caught his peers by surprise. I am certain William was aware of our spying motives, for we also spent countless hours trying to emulate whatever we had observed. Thankfully, he was unfazed and we remained very good friends. By 1984, I was able to compete on par with William. In fact, we became the top contenders for car park races till the early 90’s. So before the start of each event, William would call me by my Chinese name and we would perform the gentleman’s handshake, “Yeow, wish you a good race. If you don’t win, I will.”"

  4. Personally, I strictly employ the 2-second rule, especially during heavy (heavier) traffic and wet weather. The extra distance and time provided by the 2-second rule will be crucial for you to react accordingly when the car in front of you performs an abrupt brake. Watch what happens when one doesn't leave a safe distance from the car ahead: What Happened? A total of 14 vehicles were involved in 3 clusters of accidents along lane 1 of the PIE, with two clusters being multiple chain collisions. According to the dashcam footage, both the chain collisions seemed to have occurred just moments earlier. The first cluster This was most likely the cause of the subsequent accidents. It involved 3 cars: A Toyota Prius A Toyota Vios A Mazda CX-3 The second cluster The most 'rabak' out of the three, involved a total of 8 cars and a mini-van. The 8 cars consists of: A Nissan Sylphy A Hyundai Elantra A Toyota Corolla Altis A Toyota Wish A Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class A Mercedes-Benz C180 Two unidentifiable cars that were squashed against the concrete barrier The final cluster The dashcam footage captured the last accident or final cluster, which involved 2 cars: A Honda Civic An Audi TT Unfortunately, despite being able to brake in time due to the ample safety distance ahead of him, the Honda Civic still got rear-ended pretty hard by the Audi TT. The impact of the collision caused the Honda Civic to surge several metres ahead. The 2-Second Rule Could the 2-second rule taught to us in driving school prevent this series of accidents? Possibly, if each driver practices this rule - Take a look at the Honda Civic that managed to stop in time with the 2-second rule employed by the driver. I am certain that with the 2-second rule, there would be fewer cars involved in the massive chain collision due to the added time and distance for each driver to react accordingly. Netizens' Comments I hope this clears up the confusion on why the Honda Civic was flashing his high beam at the cam car. I also wonder why🤔 Well, that escalated! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  5. The Nissan Kicks, a compact crossover is designed for city living consumers, is now ready to tackle Singapore's urban streets. Currently undergoing homologation, the car is scheduled to be launched here in Singapore by the middle of 2020. At the front, the Kicks sports Nissan's signature V-Motion grille, and closer to back a wide C-pillar finished in black blends itself into the tailgate glass, adding to the 'floating roof' effect for a distinctively crossover look and eye-catching appeal. Bold wheel arch fenders and a rising character line on the bodysides that accentuate the car's crossover stance. Singapore bound models of the Kicks will sport's Nissan's e-POWER drivetrain, which utilises a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine as a generator to power a battery and a 127bhp electric motor the drives the front wheels. Peak torque from the electric motor is 260Nm. Nissan claims the Kicks e-POWER will be able to achieve a fuel economy of 21.7km/L thanks to this unique drivetrain configuration. Singapore-bound cars will also come with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that include Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Trace Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. 6. Source: https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-news-nissan-to-launch-first-ev-with-solid-state-battery-by-2028 Nissan aims to launch an EV with all-solid-state batteries by 2028. The company shared the goal when unveiling its prototype production facility at the Nissan Research Center in Kanagawa Prefecture. The prototype production facility will also be the site for studies on materials, design and manufacturing processes. A pilot production line at its Yokohama Plant is planned for 2024. Nissan believes all-solid-state batteries will be a game changer as they boast twice the energy density of lithium-ion batteries. In addition, all-solid-state batteries have significantly shorter charging time and incur lower production costs. The company claims all-solid-state batteries can reduce prices of battery packs to $75 per kWh in 2028, and to $65 per kWh thereafter. The company announced in November 2021 that it will spend $18 billion over the next five years to accelerate the electrification of its offerings. It also announced four new electronic concept vehicles.
  7. Wheelies seem like a pretty cool trick or stunt to look at. Motorcyclists are not the only ones that can perform such stunts, but drivers can also perform wheelies. Don't believe me? Watch it here: What Happened? A Mazda 2 hatchback that performed a last-minute lane change near a red light ended up rear-ending a Nissan Qashqai instead. However, the Nissan SUV easily absorbed the blunt impact from the collision. The rock-hard sturdiness of the Nissan SUV resulted in the Mazda 2 mounting it and doing a "wheelie" on its right wheels. For a moment, it seemed as though the Mazda 2 was about to turn turtle. Luckily, the Mazda 2 regained its stability and safely landed on all four wheels. It then travelled quite a distance before stopping in the middle of the junction. Netizens' Comments I can imagine it LOL. Part and parcel of driving in Singapore😪 Cannot handle a Mazda 2, but might be able to handle a F1 car🤔 ========= Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! 8. We are quite sure many out there can notice the distinctive smell of a brand-new car. For Nissan customers and enthusiasts out there, that smell is the work of Ryunosuke Ino and his team at the Vehicle Interior Air Quality department of Nissan Technical Centre in Japan. As a smellmaster (or Nose of Nissan), Ryunosuke who has been with Nissan for 20 years has been tasked to evaluate and monitor the odour within new vehicles manufactured by the company. In a short video that Nissan released earlier this month, he pointed out that Nissan believes that smell is a highly critical factor to deliver comfort. The video also showed that his job goes beyond sitting on the vehicle’s seat and just sniffing the air around its interior. As part of the Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) evaluation process, Ryunosuke and his team also sniff various parts within the vehicle’s cabin including the headrest, dashboard, mirror, glove compartment, visor, ceiling, cupholder, carpet, and even the seats themselves. The evaluation process also takes place in a special testing room whereby the team can tune the lighting system and air circulation to simulate the various level of heat, humidity, and sunlight. This way they can evaluate the odour at different levels of ambient temperature. Interesting enough, Nissan also has smellmasters in other technical centres throughout the world such as Europe and North America to make sure that the odour within Nissan vehicles is tuned to the respective markets. Not surprisingly, Nissan is not the only one that has a team dedicated to car smells. Stellantis, the parent company of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group also has a panel of experts that keep track of new-car smell for the automobile group who has a long list of brands under its wings including Fiat, Peugeot, Dodge, Jeep, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati. So, it seems quite likely that our national brands Proton and Perodua may have their smellmasters as well. Assuming that they do, it made us wonder what are the factors that they have to consider when determining the smell of new cars that is fit for the Malaysian market. 9. The spy photos aren't the best quality – they look like they were taken from quite a distance – and camouflage hides the finer details. However, we can see that it should wear new clothes even if the underpinnings carry over unchanged, which is the current rumor. It'll borrow design cues from the redesigned Nissan Juke while taking inspiration from Nissan's IMQ concept. You can see the Juke's influence at the rear with the prominent rear quarter panels and sloping hatch glass. The interior is expected to receive a major overhaul with a new dashboard design and a revamped infotainment system. Nissan will begin focusing on electric vehicles instead, using two new hybrid systems. One is suspected to be the company's ePower system that pairs a gasoline engine with batteries and an electric motor. The other could be a plug-in hybrid system relying on Mitsubishi's experience in the arena. Other gasoline engines will likely feature mild-hybrid setups to increase efficiency.
  10. luckily not many people drive Renaults for this to be a problem... but if you're one of the many who have a Nissan Qashqai drinking engine oil like mad and didn't understand why... now u know. 11. Heard that this model will be launching in 2016. Looks like Qashqai but smaller version, the exterior and interior looks pretty cool. Should be made in UK too like QQ. I estimate for price for this model should be in between note and QQ, and Abt the price of Jazz ba. Anyone interested in this model too? http://m.sgcarmart.com/articles/articleinfo.php?CT=n&AID=10400 Pic of Pulsar

  13. It is only the start of the new year, but I think we got a winner for the weirdest sighting of 2022 already. Watch the video here: What Happened? This sighting occurred along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), in the wee hours of the night. The witness who recorded the video said he was driving along the AYE when he almost rear-ended the abandoned, stationary van. He proceeded to stop his vehicle behind the stationary van to inspect and offer help (supposedly) to the van driver. Upon inspection, the van was found to have sustained significant damages to the driver's door and the windshield, which deployed its airbags. What was most puzzling was that the van driver was nowhere to be found, and the van's engine was still running! Furthermore, there was no sign of collision between the van and another vehicle. How strange... What It Looks Like NGL, this looks as though an alien spaceship came down to abduct the van driver. Heck. It even looks as though the van driver faded into dust from Thanos' snap. What do you think happened? Netizens' Comments That's a dedicated employee right there🤣 😳😳😳 When you take 'hit and run' too literally. ======== Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! 15. ... If I told you that the occupant walk away from this pile of mass unharmed?! This beyond miracles!!! Ermm anyone wants to guess what model was this? Woman Somehow Walks Away From Folded Car In Shocking Semi-Truck Crash Incredible. No, scratch that. This is beyond incredible. We aren't talking about the severity of the crash, though it's not every day you see a car literally folded in half and crushed by a semi-truck. There was a woman in that car, and she's not dead. In fact, she crawled from the car with hardly any injuries at all. So yeah, what's beyond incredible? Whatever it is, that's what we're dealing with here. This crash happened the morning of November 16, on Interstate 5 in Mount Vernon, north of Seattle in Washington State. According to The Seattle Times, traffic was slowing down on the Skagit River Bridge when this Red Nissan was hit from behind by a semi-truck. There was also a semi in front of the car, and the collision caused the rear of the Nissan to fold over. The semi from behind came to a rest on top of the car. The report says a 46-year-old woman was inside, and looking at the pictures in the Twitter post above would have anyone thinking the worst. Washington State Trooper Rocky Oliphant took the photos and relayed information on Twitter, at first calling it a serious injury accident. But then the semi was lifted from the car, and Oliphant says the woman crawled out under her own power. She reportedly complained of minor pain in her head and ribs, and went to the hospital for further observation. We say it again ... beyond incredible. In his Twitter posts, Oliphant says he's never seen anything like this in 14 years on the job. In The Seattle Times report, he points out the manner in which the car folded could explain how the driver escaped serious injury. The back served as a buffer, protecting the passenger compartment while also giving the semi something of a ramp to slide on. While the crash certainly wasn't lucky, he goes on to call the driver the "luckiest unlucky person." Straight up, this crash is legit spooky. Obviously we're thrilled that the driver escaped with just minor injuries, but we keep coming back to one very basic, haunting question: How? Some would say this steps into the spiritual or supernatural realm, and you know what? Looking closely at these images, we wouldn't disagree. Stay safe out there everyone.
  16. https://asia.nikkei.com/Editor-s-Picks/Interview/Ghosn-vows-to-get-back-my-rights-since-escape-from-Japan?utm_campaign=GL_JP_update&utm_medium=email&utm_source=NA_newsletter&utm_content=article_link&del_type=4&pub_date=20211013090000&seq_num=5&si=44594 Ghosn vows to 'get back my rights' since escape from Japan Ex-Nissan Motor chief who fled to Lebanon remains defiant of charges against him The former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn speaks during an online interview. (Screenshot from video) WATARU SUZUKI, Nikkei staff writerOctober 12, 2021 22:00 JST TOKYO -- Carlos Ghosn, the former Nissan Motor chief turned fugitive, has vowed to defend his rights in the face of charges from Nissan and Renault despite fleeing Japan nearly two years ago following his arrest. In an interview over Zoom from the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday, Ghosn justified his escape from Japan, calling it a way of speaking out against the accusations against him. "The whole thing was a joke but [Nissan] thought they would get away with it because I couldn't speak," he said. "But they never thought that I would get out of Japan, and then I would be able to talk. And now the battle is completely different." "That's what makes me extremely motivated to continue this battle for as [long] as it takes to get back my rights from Nissan, and also from Renault." Ghosn added that he wanted to "contribute to the change, or the evolution of the hostage justice system in Japan." Ghosn is charged with underreporting his pay and aggravated breach of trust. He is accused of underreporting his compensation by conspiring with executives to pay himself 9.1 billion yen ($87 million) upon his retirement. He denies any wrongdoing and fled Japan in December 2019 while out on bail awaiting trial. In July, a Tokyo court sentenced the U.S. Army Special Forces veteran Michael Taylor and his son Peter to prison sentences for helping Ghosn escape. Lebanon has no extradition treaty with Japan, and it has also not responded to a wanted notice by Interpol at the request of Japanese investigators. Ghosn said he is "happy" and "very busy," writing books, participating in films and TV shows and teaching management at universities. A documentary about his arrest and escape, "Carlos Ghosn: The Last Flight," began streaming in Japan on the U-Next broadcasting platform last month. He also said he spends time "with my lawyers all over the planet" to defend his rights. He acknowledged that there is a legal battle with Nissan over the house in which he is currently living in Lebanon. He was also ordered by a Dutch court to repay 5 million euros ($6.1 million) in wages to Nissan and Mitsubishi. Ghosn said he is appealing the ruling. Former Nissan executive Itaru Koeda has testified in a Tokyo court that Ghosn had grown "arrogant," while former Nissan COO Toshiyuki Shiga said he was asked by Ghosn to find an auditor that would not speak up against him. Ghosn called their arguments "very childish," saying that they were in a position to oppose the arrangements. He called Greg Kelly, who is facing charges that he helped Ghosn hide his compensation, the "only honest and straightforward person." Kelly remained in Japan to face trial and has pleaded not guilty. Ghosn also blasted Nissan and its alliance with Mitsubishi Motors and France's Renault under new management, calling the companies "zombies." Nissan reported large losses in the two fiscal years since his arrest, before forecasting a return to profit for the current fiscal year. He defended his aggressive growth strategies at Nissan and brushed off critics who called them the reason for the poor performance since his arrest. "It's a very childish argument used by people who have no argument to explain a mediocre performance," he said. "It's a competitive game. You don't hide from competition, you confront competition."
  17. With EV going mainstream in the next few years, the automotive industry is going through a hard "reset", so will the once viewed as problematic French manufacturer turn the tide while riding on the next wave? Let see... Straddling between crossover and chunky hatchback territory, this electrified Mégane E-Tech is a less glorified production version of last year’s Mégane eVision concept study. If you find the outline kind of familiar, it is because it bear similar proportions to the new Nissan Ariya Electric Crossover, which it shares the same CMF-EV platform and electric powertrain. The Mégane E-Tech Electric will initially be offered with 40kW and 60kW battery packs, with the latter providing a maximum driving range of 470 km in the WLTP test cycle. That’s about +20km more than what Renault had initially communicated when it also mentioned that the electric engine on the front axle produces 215 hp. Renault has not revealed if the range-topping powertrain from the all-wheel drive Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE which pumps out an impressive 389 hp and 600 Nm of torque working together with a larger 90kW battery to deliver up to 580km range and a 0-100km/h timing of 5.1 seconds will be available in the future. As usual, stay tuned for more information. The car will be officially unveiled on Monday (European time) at the 2021 Munich Motor Show.
  18. A video made its way onto social media, featuring a Nissan GTR and a Mercedes-Benz A45S AMG 4MATIC Plus drag racing against each other. It was unclear where this incident took place. Here's the video for your viewing pleasure: For those that do not know, this variation of the A45S is the latest model with the highest specifications currently offered on the market. Japanese Vs German Engineering Despite the late reaction from the A45S, you can see that this 2.0-litre turbocharged hatchback quickly caught onto the 3.8-litre Godzilla within seconds. What fascinated me was the brilliance of Japanese engineering that allowed the >10 years old GTR, to go head-to-head against a modern-day sports car. Unfortunately, it was impossible to tell who won that drag race from the video. Netizens' comments Sad, but so true😥 Haiz...I was disappointed when I realised there wasn't any audio. 19. source: https://www.motor1.com/photo/4226623/2020-nissan-skyline/ Other sedans don't seem so safe. The Nissan brand is in a weird place around the world as the automaker and its partners institute a new global business plan. The automaker's executive vice president Asako Hoshino says the venerable Skyline is safe, though. However, don't get too excited yet. Hoshino is specifically referring to the current Skyline sedan, which Americans would know as the Infiniti Q50 sedan. He's not talking about the GT-R. A newspaper report in Japan recently claimed that Nissan was discontinuing the development of all sedans, including the Cima, Fuga, and Skyline models in the country. The Fuga is related to the former Infiniti Q70, and the Cima is similar to the Q70L. "Last weekend, the Nikkei Shimbun reported that the development of the Skyline had been suspended and that the curtain had come down on the development of this symbol of Nissan. Nissan will never give up on the Skyline," Hoshino said during the launch of the Nissan Note Aura e-POWER, according to Car Watch Impress. It's worth noting that he didn't deny that the Fuga and Cima were going away. A report from 2020 might shed some light on what Nissan has in mind for its future premium models. The brand intends to transform Infiniti into "Nissan-plus" by sharing more platforms and technology between the divisions. This could mean far fewer rear-wheel-drive products for Infiniti. The Skyline name actually pre-dates being a Nissan model. The first generation arrived in 1957 as a product from the Prince Motor Company. Nissan and Prince merged in 1966, and the sedan stayed in the lineup. The Skyline is currently in its 13th generation in Japan. The most recent version arrived in 2013 as a sedan. There was a styling update in 2019 that made the vehicle look more like the GT-R and added more safety tech.

  22. Rumours: New Mitsubishi Outlander might get Nissan power source: https://uk.motor1.com/news/420365/next-mitsubishi-outlander-nissan-engine/ In return, Mitsubishi will reportedly share its plug-in hybrid powertrain with Nissan. The current Mitsubishi Outlander is nearing the end of its lifetime. The current model has been on sale since its 2014 model year, and it's about time for Mitsubishi to give its compact crossover a full revamp. It won't be long, however, until we see the next-generation Outlander. It has been spied testing since September of last year, and it has been confirmed that a new one will debut this year. However, information about the next Outlander is still scarce at this point, as well as its expected styling, although these exclusive renderings should give you an idea of how it will look like. What we know is that the Mitsubishi Outlander will be sharing its underpinnings with the next-generation Nissan Qashqai, which is scheduled to debut this year, as well. Both crossovers will ride on a platform developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. Automotive News, however, reported that the Outlander will be using a Nissan engine under its bonnet, marking the first time that a Mitsubishi vehicle will be using a Nissan mill. The information was from Japan's Nikkei business daily. This signals a deeper alliance between the two Japanese marques, furthering the current strategy of cutting costs by sharing product development.
  23. Nissan has issued a statement denying that it’s in discussions to work with Apple on the US company’s long-rumored autonomous car project. Earlier today the Financial Times reported that Apple had approached the Japanese automaker about a potential partnership “in recent months.” “We are not in talks with Apple,” a Nissan spokesperson tells Reuters. “However, Nissan is always open to exploring collaborations and partnerships to accelerate industry transformation.” That statement doesn’t address whether the talks ever took place, which means it doesn’t directly contradict the Financial Times’ story. That report said that “the contact was brief and the discussions did not advance to senior management levels following divisions over branding for the iPhone maker’s electric vehicles.” The breaking point was said to be Apple’s request that Nissan manufacture cars carrying Apple’s branding. “We have our own customer satisfaction, which comes by car. No way we are going to change the way we make cars,” Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta tells the Financial Times, again stating that talks aren’t happening now without confirming if they ever did. “The way we design, the way we develop, and the way we manufacture is going to be as an automotive manufacturer, as Nissan.” The recent speculation over Nissan comes after Hyundai said it wasn’t in talks with Apple on the project. Hyundai has been the primary subject of rumors over the partnership of late, not least because the Korean carmaker itself issued and swiftly retracted a statement saying it had entered discussions with Apple. Analyst Ming-chi Kuo believes the first Apple car will be built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform and ship in 2025 at the earliest.
