  1. Want to have an idea of what happens to your engine if you don't change oil over 40,000km?? WARNING!!! Pic intensive!! And erm. if you have eaten, you might want to wait awhile before viewing the following. Here's an interesting pictorial of how a self admitted idiot went to a workshop after 40,000km of driving WITHOUT changing engine oil and how the workshop salvaged the situation. Taken from http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt...d.php?t=1281659 OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG MORE OMGOMGOMGness!!!! Imagine this sludge evolving into its own ecosystem in your crank case. *gasps* Sheer amount of sludge just removed from scraping off!! Results after cleaning!!! So please remember, doesn't really matter what oil you use, just CHANGE IT REGULARLY!!!!!
  2. The real question is how many PRs we have to date and what percentage of their children siam NS throughout and not only the last 5 years... From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1166966/1/.html 8,800 PRs served NS over last 5 years Posted: 22 November 2011 1500 hrs SINGAPORE: Over the last five years, about 8,800 males who had become permanent residents under the sponsorship of their parents were enlisted for and served National Service (NS). About 6,100 of them have taken up citizenship. Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen gave the figures in a written reply to a parliamentary question from Nee Soon GRC MP, Dr Lim Wee Kiak. In that same period, about 4,200 males who had become permanent residents under the sponsorship of their parents renounced their PR status prior to serving National Service. Dr Ng said the failure of these permanent residents to serve NS will be taken into account when they subsequently apply to study or work in Singapore. These PRs were warned about the consequences of their action at the point of renunciation.

  4. What did this fella post actually? From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1166078/1/.html Young PAP member quits over offensive remarks on Facebook By Esther Ng, TODAY | Posted: 17 November 2011 2111 hrs SINGAPORE: A Young People's Action Party (YP) member who posted "insensitive" remarks - in his own words - on his Facebook page has resigned, following an online furore. Mr Jason Neo has also issued an apology on his Facebook page. He had posted a religiously and racially offensive caption to a photograph which he uploaded onto the social networking website. The posting went viral recently. In Mr Neo's apology, he said the post was out of a "moment's folly" and did not, in any way, represent the view of the PAP or the YP. He said: "I hereby offer those within our Muslim community and anyone else offended my most sincere and unreserved apology." Mr Neo, a volunteer at Meet-the-People sessions in Sembawang who joined YP in June, had posted the offensive caption and photo sometime in February. Mr Neo's action was condemned by YP leaders, including YP chairman Teo Ser Luck who wrote on his Facebook page: "We will have to take action. Such acts must be condemned." In a statement on YP's Facebook page on Thursday, its vice-chairman Zaqy Mohamad reiterated: "YP's and PAP's position is clear. Racism has no place in Singapore, and certainly not in the ranks of the PAP. The party has always upheld the core values of meritocracy and multiracialism. As a minority and from a race and belief targeted in the post, I found it very offensive, and I am certainly disappointed that it came from one of our activists." Mr Zaqy stressed that the YP executive committee regularly updates members on its informal guidelines - online or otherwise. "One of the fundamental prohibitions is that the party does not condone malicious racist remarks," Mr Zaqy said. In light of this episode, "more regular reminders" will be made to YP members, he added. Nevertheless, the incident raises question marks on the screening process carried out by political parties on potential members. Veteran PAP Member of Parliament Charles Chong told TODAY that it would be "difficult" to vet those joining YP or PAP. "They may profess to have the same ideology as the party and have a clean record, but even with psychometric tests, there is a small possibility of mistakes or missteps," said Mr Chong. On his Facebook posting, Mr Zaqy acknowledged that questions were raised about membership in the YP as a result of the incident. He said: "They would have demonstrated a certain level of interest and commitment towards the Party before they would be referred by a trusted comrade for membership." Speaking to Today, Mr Zaqy added that typically, potential members are "judged by how they perform or act as volunteers first before they are brought into the party". -CNA/ac

  6. Another alleged assault case by foreigners... Kena twice some more. Not another non-seizable offence again please!!! From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...on_my_chin.html Posted on 14 Nov 2011 STOMPer attacked twice by guy who snatched cab he had booked STOMPer SeekingJustice says he was assaulted by a Caucasian man who had apparently snatched the cab the STOMPer had booked. The STOMPer told STOMP in an email today (Nov 14): "Last Saturday (Nov 12) at about 0115 hrs, after finishing the night catching up with friends along Neil Road, I was waiting for a cab that my friend had booked for me. "The taxi arrived and stopped at approximately 30m away from my said location. As I ran towards the taxi, I saw two middle aged Caucasians entering it. I reached out for the cab door and opened it, and asked the two gentlemen to alight as it was the taxi that was booked for me. "One of them then became angry and agitated. Both alighted the taxi, with much displeasure and sparked off an argument with me. "One of them landed a punch to my left cheek, knocking my spectacles off in the process. "I subsequently dialed 999 and tailed them, as they simply walked away! I followed them along Neil Road towards Cantonment Road. "Somewhere after Bukit Pasoh, the same guy landed an upper cut to my chin which chipped off my molar and left a bruise. "He carried on walking and soon we reached Cantonment Police Station (I guess he didn't know his way around). "I immediately got the attention of the police officer and his particulars were taken down while I made an official police report inside the station. "I had just filed a Magistrate's Complaint on Monday and I'm now waiting for further notice. "I would also like to thank the kind soul, whom I didn't have the chance to get his name, who came to my assistance. "I hereby appeal for witnesses to come forward if you happen to be at the vicinity of Neil Road car park, at 0120 hrs on 12th Nov 11."
  7. BMW has issued a recall of five different model lines covering the years 2008-2011 due to a fire risk. Turbocharged eight- and twelve-cylinder engines in the 5 Series, 5 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X5 and X6 could suffer from overheating circuit boards that control the electric auxiliary water pump. The overheating board could cause the pump to smoulder, and in extreme cases among the 102 failures, BMW has found there were two engine compartment fires. BMW will send recall notices for 32,000 vehicles and dealers will replace the pump free of charge. News Source: NHTSA
  8. The graphics is great. The first 15-20 mins seem promising. After that, I feel things get quite messy because the script is 90% new with mish-mash rojak from various Tintin comics. I think the producers were unsure whether there would be a sequel so they just throw many things into one movie. A minor and benign character becomes the main villain, Bianca Castifore and Alan are featured but strangely no Prof Calculus. Ii think they should have stayed more faithful to any one of the original comics.
  9. What's wrong with MBS? Why don't they just pay the lady, instead of attracting all this negative publicity? Woman fights casino over $416,000 jackpot win MBS claims glitch in machine, offers her $50,000 and car instead By Tham Yuen-C & Ng Kai Ling IT WAS the first time Ms Choo Hong Eng was playing the slot machines at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino on Tuesday, and another casino patron had to show her the ropes. But less than half an hour and $50 later, the machine seemed to get stuck. When she turned to her kind fellow gamer for help again, he stared with disbelief at the numbers flickering on her screen: '$416,742.11' and above it 'Cash Bonus'. A crowd of gamers and casino staff gathered and started congratulating her. But moments later, a casino manager showed up to tell her that the machine had a glitch, and that she had instead won $50,000 and a sports car worth $258,962, which she could sell back to the casino for cash. Ms Choo, 58, who runs a vegetarian food stall in a coffee shop in Geylang Avenue 1, told The Straits Times last night in Mandarin: 'The other patrons told me not to be taken in. They said there was no indication anywhere that I had won only $50,000 and a car.' So the determined woman is standing her ground for the $416,742.11 in winnings she says is rightfully hers. The Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) is now in the picture, investigating the matter. Ms Choo had filed a complaint with it after her discussions with MBS were deadlocked. On her side, Ms Choo has casino patrons who were there with her at 6am, offering to be her witnesses. One of them, Mr Moo Ngow Chai, a 63-year-old Malaysian, said in Mandarin in a telephone interview yesterday: 'I saw what happened and thought it was very unfair of the casino to deny her the winnings. 'The jackpot machine clearly displayed the words 'Cash Bonus'. There were no pictures of a car at all.' Ms Choo said a few elderly women around at the time rallied around her, 'guarding' the machine to ensure that the casino staff did not turn it off, since they were not allowed to take photographs as evidence. Mr David Green, who helped draft Singapore's casino regulations and is a Macau-based gaming consultant, said such disputes are rare in the industry, as gaming machines are put through stringent checks before going into use. In Singapore, machines from only CRA-approved manufacturers are used. A CRA spokesman confirmed that before the machines are deployed, they are tested by qualified independent test laboratories to ensure that they meet all CRA requirements. Mr Green, noting that slot machines can save the data of the last 10 plays, said: 'Inspectors should be able to track easily what went wrong and determine whether it is a problem with the machine or that a player is trying to cheat,' he said. Investigations should not take more than a month, he said. He explained that machines usually carry warning labels declaring that plays are void if the machine malfunctions, so legally, casinos are not bound to make a payout. 'But this is usually not the case. Casinos will often offer some form of payout. It is not in their interest to get into disputes with their customers,' he said. Yesterday, Ms Choo told The Straits Times that MBS has not given her an indication of how long it will take to resolve the matter. 'They said only that they need to investigate,' she said. To make sure her dispute was logged, she had wanted to make a police report upon leaving the casino, but was told to go to the CRA instead. She made a police report yesterday anyway. She said: 'It's a matter of principle. I wouldn't take a single cent more from them, but I wouldn't accept a single cent less either.' MBS, when contacted, declined comment, citing ongoing investigations. Once the CRA makes its decision, however, the party who has to pay must do so in 15 days. Meanwhile, all Ms Choo can do is wait. Last night, at her vegetarian food stall, friends and patrons who had heard about what happened patted her on the back and told her to fight on. The boss of a bakery next to the coffee shop even baked her a cake with a '7 7 7' on it, depicting a jackpot win. Ms Choo said she is not bothered about those who think she is being greedy, because she was planning to do some charitable work with the money. Saying a casino should be fair to its patrons, she said: 'Even though I'm illiterate in English, I can tell the difference between 'cash' and 'car'. One has four letters and the other has three.'

  11. Caught this on camera this morning Many times we see anxious drivers at the front line of the traffic junction anticipating the light to change to green. They'll inch forward, and some will be eat into the pedestrian crossing. This this mini van is the winner, he actually moves off before the green light, almost head on with oncoming traffic. Lucky he was fast enough. I think he took the green man light for his flag off.

  13. FITNESS CLUB'S $3,000 LIFE MEMBERS Banned over late $8 fee Published on Sep 20, 2011 MY HUSBAND and I signed up for lifetime memberships with California Fitness in 2006 and we paid $3,000 each. We patronised the gym regularly until last year when we became irregular because of work commitments. When we tried to use the gym this year, we were told that our memberships had been revoked because we had not paid the annual administrative fee of $8 on time last year. Imagine our shock on learning that our combined membership value of $6,000 had been thrown out of the window because of late payment of a small administrative charge. When we signed up for the membership, the salesperson did inform us of the annual $8 administrative fee but did not give the remotest indication that our membership would be revoked without notice if we failed to pay it within a certain deadline. When we called California Fitness' head office here about it, a receptionist heard us out and promised to get back. After just 10 minutes, she telephoned to inform us that the fitness club's Hong Kong head office, which is authorised to make such decisions, had rejected our appeal. When we tried to reason with her, she brusquely replied that the decision was final and we could complain to the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) if we were dissatisfied. We remain baffled. We were not apprised of the serious repercussions arising from late payment of the administrative fee when we signed up. Even if that were so, surely the gym should only require us to settle the fee before proceeding to use the facilities, which is a common practice in other establishments. What is the nature of a life membership like the one California Fitness sold us which pivots on the timely payment of an administrative charge of comparatively negligible value compared to the price of the life membership? Were our memberships revoked because we no longer offered fresh revenue? Charmayne Lim (Ms)
  14. Dear Bros, Please advice what documents/papers i should receive upon handing over my car to the buyer. A copy of his loan successful form? A copy of transfer of ownership paper? And what? Sorry, very new to this as this is the first time selling car to direct buyer and also because i sold my car thru a middle man broker and therefore not very sure what should i or should not receive. Btw, my broker told me that the cheque will only be release tomorrow instead of today as the transfer of ownership and for bank to clear my early settlement outstanding. In fact, the reset of asset PIN is done by my broker too as i hand over my IC to him for the reset to proceed (which i felt very unsafe to hand over my IC). However, when i checked OneMotoring the request of reset asset PIN was done thru LTA Channel. Does that mean it was done at LTA front desk? Would be be advisable to release the car first before i receive my cheque? Please advice!
  15. Yahoo News 18 Chinese nationals jailed over fake degrees For their involvement in a fake degree scam, at least 18 foreign workers from China were sentenced earlier this week to jail in Singapore for four weeks each. The workers had been found by a local court to have provided forged certificates to obtain work passes to work for T Y Enterprise and Sun Blues Cleaning Maintenance. A spokesman for the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said that while another 10 workers from China will be charged with similar offences on Thursday, another nine are being repatriated after being served with warning letters

  17. CNA Local tour group camps out at travel agency over dispute By Zhao Quanyin / Qiuyi Tan | Posted: 10 July 2011 2140 hrs SINGAPORE: A group of tourists were bound for Shanghai but found themselves at the travel agency. The group of ten tourists said they were expecting an agency staff to meet them at the airport, and provide information about their hotel and trip arrangements. However, no one showed up. One of the tourists, Charlotte Lee, said: "The whole team waited for him for about two hours. And then he miraculously picked up our call at around 10:10. His first response was, 'Why aren't you on the plane?' How can we get on the plane when we don't have any details at all? Like, are we going to be stranded in China? I think that was the biggest concern we had." They said they were told to board the plane at 11am and that trip details would be sent to them via SMS. But they decided not to, and came to the travel agency for answers. Police arrived at the scene shortly after noon and asked the group to move their bags away from the agency's front door. The agency then proposed an afternoon flight to Shanghai, which the group did not take up. Jonathan Tan, Manager of SA Tours, said: "We arranged for a staff to be at the airport to assist. He would not affect the trip at all, actually. Because our staff was not there to help, the group totally lost confidence in the company, and abandoned the tour by their own choice." After a five-hour wait outside the agency, the group left. The group said it is planning further action. -CNA/ac

  20. A most horrific way to die - to be eaten alive by a predator. This reminded me of the tragic death of Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend who were both attacked and eaten alive by Grizzlies some time ago. Imagine the mother's anguish and despair to listen to her daughter's gruesome death... Geesh, what a way to die... http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8286927/m...bs-eat-daughter Mother hears bear, cubs eat daughter 06:00 AEST Thu Aug 18 2011 A teenager who was eaten alive by a brown bear and her cubs in Russia called her mother and gave a horrific running commentary of the attack, telling her "the bear is eating me!" Olga Moskalyova, 19, made three calls to her mother during the attack, which lasted more than an hour and also claimed the life of her stepfather, Igor Tsyganenkov, the Daily Mail reports. The trained psychologist, who had been camping in a forest in the extreme east of Siberia, phoned for help after she saw the mother bear attack her stepfather, breaking his neck and crushing his skull. Tatiana Tsyganenkov initially thought her daughter was joking when she screamed: "Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it's such agony!" "Then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga's voice, and the sounds of the bear growling and chewing," Mrs Tsyganenkov said. But Mrs Tsyganenkov could only listen helplessly as her daughter described the attack, telling her the mother the bear had brought its three cubs to feed on her. The teenager made her final call about an hour after the first, telling her mother she loved her and no longer felt any pain before the phone cut out. Police arrived at the scene with Mr Tsyganenkov's brother half-an-hour later to find the mother bear still devouring her dead victims, who were buried this week, and hunters were sent to destroy the animals.
