  2. 2 questions: 1. Is sunroof usefull in Singapore context? if yes, in what way it is useful? 2. When it rains, is it much noisier in the cabin than cars without sunroof? thanks for the input!
  3. Hi, Would like to know whether there is a differential in price for a used car with 1 previous owner and 2 previous owner (assume both are registered on same months and year)? if so, how large is the differential ? I was just wondering why there should be a differential (if at all). All things being equal, shouldn't the price of car be based on age of car rather than number of owners ? Thanks
  4. As Stated. Not so sure so jus to double confirm.. thanks!
  5. It will be better for all the car owners if one day, the government announce that it will not impose import tax on all Singapore Cars. Then they will put a ban on cars that cost less than $40k. This way, car owners will get more value out of the money they spend on their car. It will also look good on the whole nation as everyone will be driving good cars like BMW, Mercedes and there are tons of supercars and sports cars in Singapore.
  6. opc owners what is the single biggest factor that prompt you to buy opc? any regrets so far?
  7. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNew...ory_337503.html IT COULD soon become more attractive for motorists to switch to off-peak cars (OPC). Transport Minister Raymond Lim said in Parliament on Thursday that the Government will look into enhancing the OPC scheme in three areas. Firstly, the supplementary day licence, currently a cumbersome paper permit that is prone to tampering and hard to enforce, will be replaced by an electronic system. Secondly, the Government will look into granting cash rebates to motorists who convert their normal cars to OPCs. This, Mr Lim said, will be a more attractive incentive than the current system, under which the car owner gets the rebate when he deregisters the vehicle. Finally, the Government will relook the resticted hours that OPCs can ply without charge. Currently, these cars can only be used from 7pm to 7am on weekdays and after 3pm on Saturdays, and for the full day on Sundays and public holidays. Over the years, the Government has received numerous feedback from OPC motorists asking for the red-plated cars to be allowed to complete free usage on Saturdays. The Minister hinted that free use for the whole of Saturdays could be possible, but there would be commensurate adjustment to the tax breaks that OPCs are given. OPCs now get a one-off $17,000 rebate on their registration taxes. Mr Lim said the OPC scheme 'is something we should encourage' as it fits Singapore's overall strategy of managing road demand. He pointed out that there are about 42,000 OPCs today, five times more than the 5,000 back in end-2005. They make up about 7.7 per cent of Singapore's car population.
  8. saw lots of luxury cars (bmw/merc) that are less than 1 yr old for sale with significant discount off the new car price...am considering to get these...qns is why do the owners sell after few mths? could it be becoz of fault with car?
  9. Do you think its worth it to convert to full Saturday usage? Existing 52 Saturdays x $20 = $1040 5 PH eve x $20 = $100 Total = $1140. Revised scheme $100 admin charge Road tax also increase by between $20 to a few hundred, depending on CC of the car.

  11. What Your Car Says About You Zack O'Malley Greenburg, Forbes.com Posted: 14 October 2009 1013 hrs Porsches smack of success. Hondas preach practicality. And, according to a recent report, Chevys proudly proclaim of their owners, "I don't use the Internet." Your car implies more about your life than you might think. While 13% of Chevy owners don't use the Web, by contrast, less than 3% of Honda owners remain in the technological Stone Age. The antithesis of flashy, Honda owners are usually pragmatic and well educated; 70% boast a college degree or higher, compared with 35% of Chevy owners and 45% of Ford owners. The data was released in the spring as part of this year's New Vehicle Experience Study by San Diego-based market research outfit Strategic Vision. "Honda buyers buy primarily for the trust and dependability they find in our vehicles," says Honda spokesman Chris Naughton. "Typically, highly functional vehicles deliver less image because customers didn't purchase for image." Education level and computer savvy are just a couple of the things your car says about you. We collected demographic data on 10 prominent auto brands from the manufacturers themselves, as well as from neutral sources like Strategic Vision. It turns out, your wheels also give clues to your age, gender, income level and marital status--even your political leanings. If you'd like to cultivate an image of sophistication, try buying a Mini Cooper. The line of Lilliputian hatchbacks appeals to urbane buyers with median incomes of around $125,000. But aside from wealth, Mini owners are a tough bunch to pin down, demographically speaking, since the car has broad appeal. "It's a certain mindset," says Nathalie Bauers, spokeswoman for Mini USA. "People who relate to the brand, there's no age to that." Bauers says Mini owners fall into four categories: brand enthusiasts, who relish the car's British racing roots; design aficionados, who like the car's simple elegance; social butterflies, who want to be part of the Mini community; and gas misers, who crave the Mini's fuel efficiency. Some of the latter group trade down from trucks and SUVs not because they feel financially crunched by high gas prices, but because they want to be conscientious and reduce their impact on the environment. These "right-sizers" like the Mini's eco-friendly image; all Mini models get at least 34 miles per gallon on the highway. Says Bauers: "Many of our customers are people who get a smaller car because it's the right thing to do." While Minis appeal to several different types of people, owners of the classic English luxury vehicle Rolls-Royce can't be pigeonholed beyond the fact that they're rich. "As you can imagine, our customers do not really take surveys," says Rolls-Royce spokeswoman Karen Vonder Meulen. "The one common thread that all our customers share is a passion for life and most truly love cars." Indeed, well-known Rolls owners range from royal families to rappers. Recording artist T-Pain, who ranks No. 9 on Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash Kings list, owns North America's first Rolls-Royce Drophead. The fire-engine-red coupe boasts a 12-cylinder, 453-horsepower engine and a top speed of 150 miles per hour. Base price: $435,000. Similarly, the Bentley trademark screams wealth--typically at least $5 million in investable assets, to be precise--but in a softer voice than some of its competitors. "Our cars aren't as brash as some other performance-car manufacturers," says Stuart McCullough, a Bentley board member. "We tend to be understated, quintessentially English. That reflects the mood and style of our customers." Such restraint can be considered especially important in the current climate. With unemployment rates skyrocketing around the world, many auto enthusiasts would rather drive an understated gray Bentley than a flashy red Ferrari. "The most opulent part of a Bentley is on the inside," says McCullough. "Rich people are very aware of how others see them at the moment, the choices they make. Now is not the right time to be seen to be spending money when you're laying people off at your factory." A note to those wealthy employers: Think twice about splurging on even an understated new car. If you see scads of Hondas in your company parking lot, their savvy owners may be wise to your ways. If you only see Chevys, you might be able to get away with it
  12. When you shift the gearstick back from N to R, do you have to push the gearstick down first? Before I send my car to servicing.....R to N and N to R just shift along the goove. Now after servicing, from N to R, I have to push the gearstick downwards first before I can shift to R. Is this a safety feture or something not normal here?
  13. Dear friends...as discussed in one of the threads, the Fiat Forum has migrated to www.sgfiat.com. We look forward to see ur posts in the forum.
  14. A close relative of mine, he owns a 1 year 1 month old Honda Civic Type R. After renewing his insurance with a new insurance company for one month, just very recently, he woke up to find his car gone from the open air HDB car park. Yes, gone like that. It was later confirmed that the car was sotlen and driven to malaysia, as he had left a credit card in his car, and the credit card company called him to say that someone tried to max out his card but exceeded the limit. Till today, he has no news of the car. Now he has to continue to pay instalment, and owing to his job's demand, he has to rent/buy another car. Goodness me, this can happen to anyone ! What shocks me is that as car owners, there is really very little we can do to thwart such theft if and when ours is being targeted. I would like to listen to suggestions on how can this be prevented, or how can the car be ever retrieved back ?

  17. Hi Guys/gals I saw in some catalogue/brocher that the boot have some semi circle "fence" like thingy and the side of the boot have holes for attachment to make a side wall, mini pegion hole. Is that an option or comes with the car? Any lobang for fog lamps and crusie control? The low tire pressure thingy, if change rim size/tire size, still work? Hope to hear you guys before I take delivery of my Roomster soon. Cheers!

  19. I was shown a BMW 323 which has already 2 owners. The depreciation works out to be 8,000 per year. Is this a good deal for a 2 year old car? If I intend to sell this off after 2 years, that is into its 4th year, will the car lose tremendous value?
  20. I was wondering among the Skoda owners here, would you honestly purchase another Skoda? For me I really like the Skoda ride, I guess for me getting a good deal of a car is more important than the badge and the local dealer. For me the value in price over part is the most important aspect for me. I am looking forward to the next Superb II, if they are correct with full specs at below 90k can be considered, my only quiz about their statement of a fully spec car is equivalanet to what? But I would like a 86-90K ranged value for money car. At this price, I can see the new Skoda Superb really punch through the Singapore market and by pass the likes of the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord.....Ford Mondeo range of cars. I think good price plus specs and proper branding will work well in our market. If you look at the brochure the full specs looks good, though. Would a current SPB/Octy upgrade?
  21. I have a reflective triangular emergency stand alone signage and a magnetic type turning beacon light place on the car roof that plugs into the cigerette lighter jack in all my cars. Recently, while driving home along a 3-lanes road during an evening peak hour heavy traffic & I was on the centre lane, there was a massive jam as vehicles on the centre lane tried to change to the left and right lanes. Some drivers simply don't give way and kept horning. As I suspected that there must be something wrong in front on the centre lane, I kept on the lane. While approaching nearer, I noticed an old Chinese man walking from one car to another but the drivers just drove off. This taxi driver seemed confused as he was putting both hands on his head and looked confused and panic. It was only was I was nearer when I realised that the old man is the taxi driver and that the taxi has broken down right in front of the traffic light. I then stopped my right behind the taxi, turned on my hazard lights and approached the old taxi driver to help him. He was in a panic state as no one borders to help him. I tried calming him down and asked what had happened to his taxi as his taxi's front and bonnet were damaged. He told me that he had a collision with a van somewhere and was about to drive to Delgro (from NTUC) to have the damages repaired and the engine suddenly died off. I placed the beacon light on my car roof that plugged into the cigerette lighter and the triangular emergency signage 20m behind my car. Despite several attempts to start the engine, it couldn't and so I asked him to put on neutral gear while I try to push his taxi to one side but the gear couldn't engage. As I found out that he is Hokkien, I spoke to him in broken Hokkien as I am Teochew and realised that he can't speak English, 73-years old and left with one year before he has to surrender his taxi licence, deaf on his right ear and without a handphone. Worst off is that he would be penalised S$1,000.00 by NTUC for the accident, pay for the damages and that NTUC may withdraw his taxi licence following this accident. I then helped him to call NTUC vehicle towing line for a tow truck and was told that it will take one-and a-half hours to reach. The lady from NTUC who took my call was surprised that I am a road user, not lated to the taxi driver and yet stopped to help a stranger, especially an elderly person. As this old man was still in a dazed, worried on paying penalties, telling me that he has grand-children, all his grown-up children doesn't give him and his wife money and that's why he is still driving the taxi for income. I told him that I will accompany him until the tow truck arrives and he kept thanking me for helping me. Suddenly, I heard a cracking sound and discovered that a big lorry did not notice the red triangular road signage and ran over it and drove off. As I always carry an LED mini touchlight in my key pouch, I used it to re-direct on-coming vehicles. As the tow truck did not arrive even after one-and a-half hours, I contacted NTUC towing line and was informed that we would have to wait longer. By then, it was about 7.30pm and the beacon light was still on. Seconds later, a traffic police arrived at the scene and told me that while filtering to another road about 50m away, the turning beacon light caught his attention. Using his walkie-talkie, he called for more police and about 4 subsequently came and re-direct the traffic until the tow truck arrived. Even as I was about to leave the scene as the policemen are there, the policemen and the old man kept on thanking me b'cos no drivers have bordered to stop and help this old man despite the latter approaching them. The question that kept hovering in my mind since the above incident is that is it so difficult for drivers to stop their vehicles and help someone and especially this old man. So to all vehicle owners, try to get a turning beacon in addition to the triangular refelective emergency road signage as it is very effective.
  22. Was clearing my storeroom and found that I have 2 pieces of RH wing mirrors (in classic Red), and a set of original shifter set (for stick-shift), complete with bushings and hardware. Anymore Sephia/Mentor/Spectra owners needing the parts? The wing mirrors should fit the Sephia/Mentor, the ones on the Spectra is more "rectangular". Might fit, but will be lobsided. The shifter should be compatible to all Sephia/Mentor & Spectra too. Just leave me a PM, giving them away. Offer till end of May 09 only!
  23. Dear All, My ride is OPC n due to my low usage on it, my mileage currently is only about 8.3K (car is now 2 yrs++ old). My last servicing was done about 1yr ago (5K servicing) n I am still on Mineral Oil. Should I hold till my mileage hit 10K or should I send in asap (I remember my last 5K servicing, the mechanics paste a sticker stating next service period is either 3mths or 10K) I have been asking around, some told me usually OPC owner will peg their servicing session to time period (ie. Mineral Oil 3 mths, syn oil 6mths) while there r others whom told me to only send it in based on the mileage achieved. Any Advice? Thanks ** Pls dun mock at me for buying a car n not using it often. Some tragic stuff happened in the family that kinda of screwed up my initial plans on the car usage.
