  1. I went to test drive the Altis 1.8A just now and am impressed First gear wack till redline and the speedo hit 80km/h - on 1st gear! ... Whilst the auto tranny shifted to 2nd, there was a PPSSSSSTT sound from the VVTi engine. The Sales Engineer says this is the characteristics of the VVTi for optimum performance & fuel efficiency. Those driving the Japanese G9 Corolla 1.5 or 1.6 (the model before Altis), do you hear this PPSSSST sound when you ram your car or almost hit redline?

  5. I'm starting off this thread because some people with COE cars have shown interest in what things others have done to keep the car going. Kindly list down the what broke and the repairs you have done. Optional to list amount spent. Also list down the future repairs you have put on hold because it is not life threatening to car and occupants. I will start first with my repairs. 1. Front left ball joint worn. Got both left and right ball joints replaced. - 110 2. Due to the worn ball joint, tire wear was uneven. Took the opportunity to upgrade wheels. Got 14" rims and new tires. - 580 3. Wheels were misaligned and so was the steering wheel. Got them done - 70 4. Drive shafts were weakened and worn due to the worn ball joint. Replaced with remanufactured ones. - 380 5. Again due to the worn ball joint, left brake disc was warped. Was given the option to get new ones or skim the current ones. I got them both skimmed - 50 6. Start brushes worn. Got the whole starter replaced with a remanufactured one. -70 7. Radiator siezed. Completely replaced it. - 380 including coolant. Future repairs of non life threatening nature. 1. Muffler is leaking robbing it of power. Will have to patch it or replace it. 2. Engine is old, looking for Auto-Rx to clean and condition seals before addition of syn oil. 3. Right rear brake light keeps blowing the bulb. May be a water contamination problem.
  6. hi all: i was talking to workshop owner about problems about fit/jazz. apperently some owners overfilled the battery water. Right below the battery is the connectors for the gearbox . hence, when the sulphric acid from the battery spill out, the connectors/controller get "burnt". thus resulting in gearbox problem. just a friendly warning , not to let uncle at the petrol station overfill battery water beyond the Max mark ... cheers
  7. saw on today's ST - SM's advertising a free upgrade for S80 2.0T owners to 2.5T free of charge. They should think about the following : free upgrade for S60 2.0T owners to T5 free upgrade for T5 owners to S60R free upgrade for T4 owners to the new S40 free upgrade for S40 1.8 to T4 ...
  8. Folks, seems like the Skoda community is increasing in the MCF!!! Well done to whoever who did to promote this (I dun know who cause I didn't do it... oops) Any for those newbies, there is a private folder 'SOG Lounge' exclusively for Skoda owners only. Due to the increase in population, it is now hard to control the access grant. Thus the new rules is simple (Only 2) 1. Come for the SOG meet up. will get your nick name and grant you the access. 2. Intro by the 'oldie' members. i trust the oldie members will see that whoever is indeed a Skoda owner. 'Oldie' member will then PM me to grant access to the 'newbie' Simple enough?

  10. Hi all, I'm driving a year 2000 Accent 1.5. At 150km, my fuel gauge is at 3/4, at 250km, the fuel gauge is near to mid-way mark. Is my Accent fuel consumption high or low? What about other Accent owners, how are your fuel consumption like? Regards, limws
  11. Hi Folks, I just came back from my trip to KL - what a great car to drive. At hi speeds there is quite an amount of wind noise and it sounds like it is coming into the car. I spoke with SM Motors' service exec - he says its normal and there's nothing much that can be done about it. Have you folks noticed the same thing too? Any solutions to cut down the wind noise? Also on another note - the brakes seems top be quite noisy in the morning i.e., having some loud creaking noise everytime i step on & release the pedal. it goes way after a while...is this common? thanks

  15. Hi fellow VAG-platform owners, especially the Octy's, if there are any here, Posted a similar query on the Seat forum and was quite amused with the replies so far that I thought I'd post it for you folks too. And it's regarding the manual gearbox - when shifting into 1st, I occasionally get a 'thud' as the gear goes in tho' most other times, it's a 'thud-thud'. The former caught me off-guard twice where I thought I'd engaged 1st but when I released the clutch, the shifter simply popped back to neutral. Not very funny when going up a slope or at a traffic light in rush hour. Any of you get such a thing too, or is this something Tody-specific ? Then again, I believe both the Octy and Tody share the same gearbox, don't they ?
