The Auburn Hills-based automaker, which is now operated by Fiat S.p.A., said net income amounted to US$116 million in the first quarter of 2011 compared to a net loss of $197 million in the same period last year. At the same time, the company

  9. Hi all VW owners, saw this post @ some forum, thinks that VW bros and sis may concern about it: " Hi, I would like to let the VSC know that something really ridiculous happened to her customer today. I'm Eric, I collected my car on December 2nd 2010 and within a month I found out that my window mechanism is not working. I went back to VSC and they told me to make an appointment, which is around 2-3weeks later. Okay, fair enough, since VW sales had been good these years. Today, January 27th, I sent my car for the window repair at 10am. The service agent told me he can't promise me the timing because the mechanics are the ones doing the car. Well, thinking that it's only window mechanism, how long can it take right? I waited around your showroom and had my lunch nearby, then I checked back with my service agent at 4:30pm, six and a half hours later. "Sorry, they haven't started on your car yet." So basically, I drove there, took a day off to wait for the whole day to find out that my car is just parked in your garage suntanning. If I chose to drive the car back, I have to make an appointment which 2-3 weeks later. So I had to take a cab home, and take a cab back tomorrow to collect the car IF IT IS READY. If it is NOT, I will wait until Monday. Then what's the point of making an appointment? This bloody window problem is under warranty, barely 2 months of usage. It would be classified under VW's 'fault', 'manufacturing mistake', 'error', whatever you would like to call it. VW's policy for replacement vehicle is for 48hours job, so I don't get a replacement car for that matter. So, effectively, the consumers are PAYING for VW's mistakes(loss of use, taxi fares, TIME, frustration, loss of confidence in VW, etc.). How is that right? I've heard of countless complaints about the DSG 7-speed gearbox, suspension creaking problems etc. If you guys rectify it fast and not cause too much distress to the customer, I believe most people will forgo the over promised quality of german engineering. You give faulty products and take a million years to rectify it for the customers. With my current gearbox, I have the constant fear that it might break down on me anytime because I do not know whether the car is in the 'affected' batch. I can't drive it to Malaysia because I simply do not have the confidence with my VW gearbox whatsoever. I'm a big fan of VW, I still love my Scirocco nevertheless, but the after sales service of VSC Singapore is really really disappointing. There's a side of VW that the public doesn't know. People who doesn't own a VW, won't know. 7-Speed DSG mechatronics problem hasn't been reported on local news either. People need to know, 'If you want to own a VW, you will need to face the bad aftersales service.'. I don't know how powerful VW is with the media, but I will be writing in to SPH about this very apparent problem and get the VAGSG club to support my thesis. VW, 4th in car sales volume in Singapore, doesn't have enough resources to deal with after sales service. 1st 3 servicing free, but you have to wait 2-3 months for a servicing. You're better off servicing at a third party workshop. There are no news about a new servicing centre, there are not enough mechanics to deal with the number of customers, doesn't seem like VSC is doing anything to remedy the problem. VW owners are suffering for VSC's management problem and VW's manufacturing and design flaws. It is painful to love VW." Feedback to VW SG website. The bad service, DSG problems and long waits. We don't deserve it. Guys, let's make something happen. Anyone got contacts or ideas how we should go about it? There's another thread proposing to petition for a 5 year warranty. What are the updates? "

  12. After completing the Volvo takeover, the guys over at Geely have become much more optimistic and ambitious with their goals. The Geely group intends to grow more than ever this year, with a clear goal to become one of the top 500 companies in the world. "This year we will expand Geely's production capacity to over ten trillion units, enough to be one of the world's top 500 enterprises," said Yang Jian, president of Geely Holding Group, according to a report by Gasgoo.com. As for the auto branch in particular, Geely expects sales to have good growth in the next few years as the Volvo product range will be launched both in the domestic markets and in other unexplored regions. The company wants to double its market share in China, with sales to reach 2 million cars per year by 2015. More than 40 new models based on 15 platforms with be launched by its core brands in China such as Emgrand, Gleagle and Englon. To cater for the projected increase in sales, the dealership network will also be increased, with new stores to deliver not only models sold under its Chinese brands, but also vehicles wearing Volvo's badge. Geely reminds me of the Hyundai group in the 1980s. However, I believe Geely has a more uphill task than Hyundai in establishing its branding overseas due to its Chinese roots, which is infamous for unscrupulous manufacturers of tainted milk powder and harmful toys.
  13. Come across this Advert in the Zao Pao of today - "Year Ends Sales at Stamford Tyres" from 16 to 19 Dec 2010. The sales includes Rims & Tyres. I am wondering what brands of tires are being put on sales there, as the prices seem to be cheap. For example, the 205/50/R17 is advertised @ $63, 225/50/R17 @$70. (for Jurong only). The prices for these 2 sizes of tires with no brand specified, is almost 1/3 the price of my Bridgestone RE001 205/50/R17, which I paid $200 each in Nov 2008. Has any one being to the sales?
  14. BMW sold 3 cars more than Merc in 2010, VW 4th. Come 2011, bye bye kimchi and sushi......
  15. Hyundai has sold 493,426 vehicles in 2010 so far, representing a 23% increase over the same period in 2009. Helping Hyundai to achieve such impressive sales figure is non other than the all new Hyundai Sonata, better known as the I45 in Singapore. In November alone, Hyundai sold 40,723 Sonatas, which is up by 45 percent over November 2009. Overall the Sonata has sold over 200,000 units in 2010.
  16. As usual, wake up on Christmas day and was feeling bored. TV programmes were sulk so too with the cable vision programmes. Checks my mails and found this mail from Robinson (card member special mailed to me last week) and decided to take a look. Found some interesting items and was surprised that there is a 70% discounts on most items. The sale starts on Christmas day @ 1200hrs till 27/12/2007. Since there is nothing to do, I decided to go for shopping at Robinson with my family. Arrived at 11.00am and parked my car at Star Hub Centre (as uausl, knowing Centerpoint always have long que to enter the car park) and cross over to Centerpoint. What a surprise awakes me. . At every entrances (first floor to the fourth floor) of Robinson, crowds started to gather and wait for the roller shutter to open . Ppls comes in all forms, some with baby prams, some with childrens running amongst the crowds....... etc, all patiencly waiting for the roller shutter to open. The moment the shutter started to open, , some ppls did not even wait for the shutter to open fully and sneak in. Should have use my hp camera to take the scene. The rush to enter into the shop and the scramble about inside Robinson were amusing. The ladies rushes for the dresses and shoes while the guys rushes to the pants and shirts sections. Mind you, in other days, the pants which are sold for $99/- were going at $47/-. All brands are going at 70% off the usual price. So can't beat the crowds, I joint them and grab 2 for myself. Next is going to try it on to see if it fits and , have to que for 30 minutes to try your pants. I grab my share. my wife for herself and my childrens for themselves at Robinson. In all, we spend 3 hours inside Robinson and the next problem is the que to pay your items. It takes another 45 minutes in que to pay for what you grabbed. . That's Singaporean, and I am enjoying it myself . At least I got my Chinese New Year clothing headache solved at Robinson yesterday. Were you at the Great Roninson's Sale ?...............

  20. [extract] AUDI has already broken its sales record in 2008 during the first eleven months of this year. The brand sold around 1,003,900 cars between January to November, beating the sales figure of 1,003,469, the previous best year in the company
  21. As many already know, car sales people or executives at car showrooms will often treat showroom visitors according to a set of personal "scales" or "benchmarks" with which to decide whether they (visitors) are potential customers. - Sometimes it's your age: Too young = play play only. don't wanna waste my time - Dressed to shabbily: Too poor. Cannot afford the BMWs / Mercs / Porsches I'm selling (maybe less so for less prestigious marques) - Flashy car = big fish = must smile widely and entertain his/her every request Do we all agree with these, occasionally, unreliable "profiling" sales execs use in deciding whether to make an effort to assist customers? Personal experience, if I walk in (i look relatively young but am really not as young as I look), sometimes sales execs won't take even a second look at me. And sometimes it happens even when showrooms are relatively empty. But if i dress properly, they'll come in droves. Once at the Mini showroom (hunting for friend's car), they'll see me driving in and come drooling. Even to the extent of opening the glass door for my friend and I (cos the green house showroom gives people inside 100% visibility of cars coming in). Issit an Asian/Singaporean mentality? Cos I've been to foreign showrooms in more westernised countries, and have never gotten that kinda treatment even when we occasionally drove a rental. Not saying it's right or wrong. But I'm seeking personal accounts and/or maybe comments from fellow MCFers. Perhaps different experiences? Nice stories? Or horror stories? :)
  22. Saab Automobile plans to reduce its workforce by 200 employees or about one-eighth of its current staff, according to report from Reuters citing a union official. Hakan Skott, a union representative at Saab, told the news site that the move was expected after the company's new owner, Dutch supercar maker Spyker, cut the firm's sales target from 60,000 units in February, to 45,000 a few months later and finally to just 30,000 cars at end of October. "I'm not exactly surprised. We reduced our sales forecast just a couple of weeks ago and there is a decline in sales every year around Christmas and at the end of the year," Skott said. "I'm sure that by February-March we will see an upward trend and people will buy cars again," he added. Saab has said in the past that it needs to sell around 80,000 cars per year to break even.On Friday, Swedish business daily Dagens Industri quoted Spyker's CEO Victor Muller as saying, "There is absolutely no reason to worry. Our plans for the future still stand. Next year, we will build 80,000 cars". As for the staff being laid, Muller told the newspaper that they were temporary employees. "You take them aboard when you need them and when they are not needed, they are not on board," he added. Saab
