  1. Personally, the mindset of the national is if it is FREE we will keep it hence, i dont envisage a possible reduction in our NS duration what i am very worried about is the world is moving so very fast we already had been disadvantaged by NS, resulting in being 2 or 2 1/2 years behind our girls and our foreign classmates in the future it will be worse for our children even 6 months can mean a break or score the economic cycle also is shorter hence, i am just worried about our children am i worrying too much for our kids or should i just relax TAIPEI
  2. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/4-drivers-convicted-of-providing-illegal-chauffeured-services-using Huat ah!!! SINGAPORE - Four drivers have been fined for providing illegal chauffeured services using unlicensed vehicles, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 13). The drivers have each been convicted of using a vehicle as an unlicensed public service vehicle, and driving a vehicle without valid insurance. They were each fined a total of $1,400 and disqualifed from driving all classes of vehicles for 12 months. LTA said that three of the four vehicles used were forfeited in 2018, while the decision over the fourth vehicle is still pending. All four vehicles were foreign-registered vehicles. In all four cases, investigations revealed that the drivers had ferried passengers from Singapore to Johor Bahru for an agreed fare without a Public Service Vehicle Licence (PSVL). In 2018, LTA caught 13 drivers using unlicensed foreign-registered vehicles to provide chauffeured services. Enforcement operations were conducted at visitor hot spots such as Changi Airport, HarbourFront Centre and East Coast Seafood Centre, LTA said. Deterrence operations were also conducted at these locations through the uniformed presence of LTA enforcement officers. LTA urged members of the public against engaging chauffeured services provided by persons using unlicensed vehicles, as these vehicles might not be sufficiently insured against third-party liabilities. Passengers may not be entitled to insurance recourse if they are involved in a traffic accident while travelling in such vehicles, the authority added. LTA group director of traffic and road operations Chandrasekar Palanisamy said: "Our enforcement officers have cracked down on these unlicensed public service vehicles to protect our commuters and our drivers." "We work closely with various agencies to obtain the information and investigate these incidents," he added. "LTA views these infringements seriously, and we are committed to taking severe action against offenders." Under the Road Traffic Act, all vehicles, including foreign-registered ones, are not allowed to provide taxi or chauffeured services in Singapore without a valid PSVL. Any person caught using a vehicle that is not issued with a valid PSVL to provide taxi or chauffeured services shall be prosecuted, LTA said. Those convicted face a fine of up to $3,000, or a jail term not exceeding six months, or both. The vehicle used may also be forfeited.
  3. I went this shop with my son to get his new 116i new shoes (the only thing i can give for his new car). After surf online, was found that several good reviews (www.bmw.sg) about this BMW wheels shop. So no harm, went down from Pasir Ris to this wonderful shop with great hope to his new wheels. When we reached this tyre shop, we were greeted by two young men, I think they are tiremen. They were very helpful and we have no doubt looking and take our time to find suitable wheels for my son 116i...when we found one nice set of wheels, we were offered $2200 for a set of used wheels plus tyres. It was really overbudget. We then asked how much they can take in our wheels. they only can offered $300. For a set of RFT wheels which only used for 3 months, they only take in $300. We were very shocked. Then, I asked for discount, they have changed the price to $3300. The boss came out from the office and started bluffing us, they made a mistake telling us the wrong price. The boss, I think his name is Ah Yang, start barking at us saying "If you want cheap wheels, don't come here in mandarin!" I looked at him, and reply " I thought your company has good reputation and why your attitude so rude". He replied to me saying, "My shop sells expensive wheels, small car like you all, we don't do business...". To my shock again, this boss was so rude and impolite, very much like holigan by the road side. Immediately, I told my son to leave this awful place and remember not to visit this shop anymore. I believe all Singaporeans are not from wealthy family, but at least we deserved some respects. My son bought a new BMW by himself, though it is small, but I don't think he should be treated badly. Felt very shame on this tire shop, especially the boss.
  4. Hi all Not exactly lite n easy. my MIL hospitalized in SGH. Have been doing this test that test but always give non-conclusive statement and only when we asked. Any avenue for broadcasting such issue of healthcare facility? Can't imagine the bills after staying for nearly 2 weeks and those tests. On a side note, I think in pursuit of shaping good economy, govt related bodies / subsidiaries have become very lax in their work. Examples - can peasant pursue justice without going thru great lengths like engaging lawyer, media etc? Can peasant wait for proactive medical update of patient status in black n white rather than going to private hospital.? In both cases peasant have no money and avenue. How can we change the society? Other than chasing material want and more money, what else is missing?

  8. For full news:https://www.cnet.com/how-to/disney-disneyplus-streaming-service-name-release-date-shows-movies-to-expect/ Disney is betting big on its 2019 streaming service called Disney+. With Disney CEO Bob Iger calling the streaming service the company's "biggest priority" for 2019, the company is ending its streaming deal with Netflix so it can launch its own service as the exclusive streaming home for Disney movies, TV shows and other original programming. Most of the programming planned for Disney+ leans into the company's franchises like Marvel and Star Wars. Captain Marvel, the Brie Larson superhero flick coming to theaters in March, will be the first of its films to stream on Disney+ rather than Netflix. If you're feeling monthly fee fatigue, sorry, but that's the direction the entertainment business is headed. Netflix trots out original shows and movies on a near daily basis. CBS is pumping its CBS All Access service full of Star Trek shows and other original programs. (Editors' note: CBS is CNET's parent company.) NBCUniversal, HBO-owner WarnerMedia and Apple are all building their own streaming services. Even DC Entertainment now has its DC Universe streaming service full of shows, movies and comics. And then there's Hulu, which will be controlled by Disney after its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Once Disney+ launches, you'll need to remember to subscribe to Hulu too if you want Disney's edgier material, like four planned Marvel cartoons aimed at adults. Disney+ is where all the company's family-friendly content will live. So is the 2019 Disney+ streaming service something worth paying for? The details that we know so far are below, but basically: If you love Star Wars or Marvel movies, you may find yourself considering yet another subscription before the year is out. On Nov. 8, Disney announced a Star Wars prequel series based on Rogue One and starring Diego Luna, who played Cassian Andor in the original movie. Disney also confirmed the service is developing a live-action Marvel series focused on Loki, a character from the Avengers, which will star Tom Hiddleston reprising the role. Also, the Marvel Defenders shows Netflix has cancelled -- like Daredevil and Luke Cage -- could be revived for Disney+. What's the Disney streaming service? Disney+ streaming service will be a competitor to video streaming services like Netflix. Customers will be able to subscribe with a still-unannounced monthly fee to get access to TV shows, movies and other content from the world of Disney. Disney's other streaming services -- Hulu and sports-focused ESPN+--will run on the same tech platform so you can subscribe to them with the same password and credit card info. But Disney plans for all three to be individual subscriptions. ESPN+ will, clearly, focus on sports. Hulu is expected to continue to stream content from three of the broadcast networks and its own original series, like The Handmaid's Tale and Castle Rock. Hulu will also be where Disney streams its more adult-oriented fare. It's where a new Marvel collection of grown-up animated series will stream, and it's like where Deadpool-like content will live once Disney takes over Fox. Disney+ is supposed to include all of Disney's family-friendly fare. It'll have content from Disney proper, Marvel, Lucasfilm (so: Star Wars), Pixar and National Geographic. When's the release date? You'll be waiting even longer than Avengers 4 for this. Disney says it's shooting for a release in late 2019. The company is expected to reveal many of the specifics about Disney+ on April 11, when it'll hold an investor meeting to detail all its streaming plans, including a "first look" at Disney+ and some of the programming it's producing for it. How much will it cost? Disney hasn't yet announced pricing for its streaming service, but expect it to cost less than Netflix. Iger said in November 2017 that his company's service price will reflect the "fact that it will have substantially less volume" but plans to make up for it with high-quality programming from across its entertainment empire. More than a year later, however, Iger said the company still hadn't decided what it'll charge. We do know the service will include shows and movies such as: Star Wars: The Clone Wars new season (exclusive to this service). Marvel movies, starting with 2019's Captain Marvel. Star Wars films, starting with 2019's Episode 9. Pixar films, starting with 2019's Toy Story 4. A live-action, big-budget Star Wars TV series called The Mandalorian, being developed by Jon Favreau. A Star Wars Rogue One prequel TV series, starring Diego Luna. A live-action Marvel series focused on Avengers character Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston. Possible Marvel series that could star Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), according to Variety. Possible Marvel series that would team up Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Sam Wilson, aka Falcon (Anthony Mackie), according to Slashfilm. An animated series based on Pixar's Monsters Inc. A 10-episode series, Diary of a Female President, about a 12-year-old Cuban-American girl. A documentary about Walt Disney Imagineering. A Timmy Failure film directed by Spotlight's Tom McCarthy. A live-action Lady and the Tramp remake. A Sword in the Stone remake. Noelle, a movie starring Anna Kendrick. Togo, a sled dog movie starring Willem Dafoe. A Three Men and a Baby remake. The Paper Magician film. A Stargirl film. A High School Musical series. A possible Muppets series.
  9. 8 town councils to increase service & conservancy charges Eight town councils will increase their service and conservancy charges from April 1. The town councils are Ang Mo Kio, Jurong, Marine Parade, Moulmein-Kallang, Nee Soon, Pasir Ris-Punggol, Potong Pasir and Sembawang. File photo: Blocks of HDB flats in a neighbourhood. By Dylan Loh POSTED: 27 Feb 2014 17:15 SINGAPORE: Eight town councils will increase their service and conservancy charges (S&CC) for flats, shops/offices and market/cooked food stalls, with effect from 1 April. They are Ang Mo Kio, Jurong, Marine Parade, Moulmein-Kallang, Nee Soon, Pasir Ris-Punggol, Potong Pasir and Sembawang town councils. Sembawang Town Council, which announced the increase in a statement, cited rising costs and inflation as reasons for the revision. It said: "In order to keep S&CC charges as affordable as possible for residents, the town councils have been making a conscious effort to control costs to avoid increasing the S&CC rates, despite rising inflation every year. "The town councils have succeeded in resisting S&CC increases for the last 10 years, even when the inflation rate hit a high of 6.6 per cent in 2008. "However, with current cost increases, it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue operations at current S&CC rates, with several town councils running into operating deficits." The statement cited electricity as one of the biggest contributors to cost increases for the town councils. Maintenance costs have also gone up, due to most towns having successfully undergone the Lift Upgrading Programme. The S&CC increase will be phased over two years. The first-tier increase on 1 April this year ranges from S$0.50 per month for those living in HDB's one-room flats to S$8.50 per month for executive flat home owners. Commercial property owners and tenants will see an increase ranging from S$0.10 to S$0.21 per psm/month while the increase for most cooked food stalls is between S$9.90 and S$15.83 per month. The second-tier adjustment will be effected on 1 April 2015. The S&CC increase will range from S$0.50 for HDB's one-room to S$6.50 per month for executive flat home owners, depending on the type of flat. Commercial property owners and tenants will see an increase ranging from S$0.07 to S$0.11 per psm/month while the increase for most cooked food stalls is between S$9.50 and S$12.00 per month. According to the statement, the last S&CC revision by the majority of these town councils was 10 years ago, in 2004. The last time there was an S&CC revision was in September 2012, when seven town councils -- Bishan-Toa Payoh, Chua Chu Kang, East Coast, Holland-Bukit Panjang, Tanjong Pagar, Tampines and West Coast -- raised their charges. - CNA/xq (source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/8-town-councils-to/1014402.html )

  13. Earlier on discovered my main gate stuck and could not be opened from the outside, had to stick hand through the iron wrought gap and open from the latch inside. Did a Google search and found this 24-hour service with a "call us anytime" kind of motto. Managed to get through and a rather gruffy guy answered, after a bit of haggling he said "lao siong (brother) today Sunday, tomorrow can or not?" Can I said but your advert said 24-hour and anytime. "Aiyah okay lah okay lah, where you stay and what is the problem?" Told him I needed to get my lock on main gate replaced and how much? $200 he said, my eyes popped and never mind thank you bye bye. I might as well go IMM buy what I need and search Youtube for DIY lock change. Goodness! No wonder we are number 1.

  25. Last Friday morning, I realised that something was wrong with my 08 Passat 1.8TSI's gearbox (only had 3rd Gear when driving forwards - No problem with Park, Neutral and Reverse). Even when I tried to change gear manually, or use a different mode, it still stayed in 3rd gear when driving (indicator is always 3). Hence it was pretty sluggish off the line, and to maintain highway speeds, the engine was rather strained. So, I drove straight to VW Service Centre. At first, the receptionist said that a Master Technician needed to take a look at my car, and asked me to have a seat at the lounge. And around 9am, she came by and told me that the Master Technician was still with another car, and that I should leave my key with them, and that they would call me back when they found out what was wrong with my car. I waited until 2pm Friday afternoon to call them, and that was when I realised that they had passed my "case" onto a Service Advisor. When I finally spoke to the Service Advisor, he informed me that there was a queue of cars waiting for a Master Technician to take a look. He then advised me that my car could only be seen on Saturday at the earliest. I then requested that he call me once my car was seen and to update me on the situation. Saturday morning came and went and after several missed calls, I finally managed to speak to my Service Advisor who apologetically informed me that my car had not been seen. He could not even indicate when my car could be seen, and that it is likelt to be Monday. I called again this morning (monday) and he said he would call me back... I called again in the afternoon... and he still hadn't stopped seeing his case load of incoming cars.... 72+ hours (3 days) of cars and no one can tell me if anything is wrong with my car (or if it was just a temporary issue). Are there so many VW cars at the workshop, or just so few technicians and mechanics?
