  1. I am 30 years old Singaporean. 5 years experience in IT Project Management. Currently earning SG dollars equivalent SGD$128,000 per annum from the down under region. Thinking of moving back to SG. Does IT Project Management in SG pays the same or higher?
  2. Source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin.../314761/1/.html Finnish refiner to build world's largest biodiesel plant in S'pore By Melvin Yong, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 30 November 2007 1659 hrs SINGAPORE: Singapore's biodiesel industry got a boost on Friday. Neste Oil, a refiner from Finland, said it has decided to invest nearly S$1.2 billion to build the world's largest biodiesel plant in Singapore. In a statement, Neste said the plant will have a design capacity of 800,000 tonnes each year. This will make it the largest facility producing diesel fuel from renewable feedstock anywhere. The plant will use mostly palm oil for raw material. The company said it chose Singapore because it is the world's third-largest centre for oil refining. Singapore is also a central location in terms of product and feedstock flows and logistics. Neste believes this will give Singapore excellent potential to develop into a centre for Asian biofuel production. The Economic Development Board will also support the investment by helping with research and development, as well as assisting with recruiting and training personnel. Construction of the plant at Tuas will start in the first half of next year and it is due to be completed by the end of 2010. The plant will be integrated into the area's existing industrial infrastructure, and will make use of local site utilities and port and storage services. When operational, the plant will employ around 100 people. Analysts say the move is positive for Singapore. ABN AMRO Asia Securities' investment analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam said: "..... it places Singapore as a hub in the biodiesel industry. There has been a few other developments earlier this year and last year where other companies have set up biodiesel facilities in Singapore because of its superior logistics." According to Neste, the use of biofuels is predicted to increase rapidly in developed economies over the next few years. For now, though, analysts believe the plant's impact on Singapore's economy will be minimal. ABN AMRO Asia Securities' Nirgunan Tiruchelvam said: "The production being anticipated in this biodiesel facility is a small percentage of the petroleum requirements of this country. So the impact on the Singapore economy per se will be quite minimal. However it may encourage other players in the biodiesel industry to ramp up capacity in Singapore." - CNA/ir

  5. 1. Sigh, another public holiday, stuck in Singapore not knowing where the car and the family should head to for tomorrow. 2. Been to off-shore islands, all places of interest and went to all parks. The only one left is Geylang Red Light district where I can't bring my family to wonder around. Oh dear, I can't be driving to the Zoo several times a year right? 3. Now, beside the Jusco in Tebrau City, is there any interesting town or places in between JB and Melaka? I think beside shopping, life is quite meaningless over a weekend in Singapore. Everywhere queues, cars, crowd...sigh. Regards,

That's her above... we think she's so glam, she should represent us at all awards ceremonies from now on! Thank you, Tokyo jury! Thank you, TIFF! Thank you, audiences! Thank you, investors, actors, crew, distributors, sales agent and everyone who helped make our dream come true! Now, in celebration, we shall tuang the next couple of days' update and go and whack some Nigiri Set 'A'... Sorry hor. Hope you understand... ---

  9. Hi guys, I'm looking to install a long range dual-band radio transceiver set. Would you know where I can buy one? I heard it might be illegal in Singapore, as it's not approved by IDA. If so, then I will need to buy it from Malaysia. I'm using it for a long-distance overseas trip, will take it off when I'm driving in Singapore. Can I get any shops here to install it for me? It's the kind with a base unit, a hand set, and an external antenna. Please let me know if you can recommend an installer. Thanks very much in advance!

Meanwhile, unless you're heng enuff to be on assignment in Australia (like me), you guys have to contend with our smaller-scale motorshows in Singapore or enjoy the photos I've put up! Lunchtime crowd The Civic Type R: exterior and interior shots Audi RS4: Audi's answer to the BMW M3? Audi's new S5 The new Subaru Impreza WRX: Potentially the uglist car at the show Lexus ISF: Lexus' answer to the M3. Lotus booth at the Aussie motorshow Mercedez Benz sold more than AU$1 million worth of cars in the first two days of the motorshow. They made that after selling only a handful of Merc-AMG cars including the E55, new CL65 and S65s. Craaazy. Maserati took about five orders of their new Gran Turismo in the same amount of time. I'll be uploading more pictures when I have the time. Meanwhile, enjoy.
  13. Came across quite a number of drivers with SUPER poor speed judgement or either they simply dont care. Saturday 10/20/2007 One Malay driver at Tampiness area. Coming out of MSCP, jam brake before the last hump out of carpark and waited 1 minute there for wife. 1 minute later then realised someone is behind then start to inch out a little. At that time, a honda was approaching on the single lane road1 which the MSCP was leading to. At the speed, this joker could have gone out quite confortably but he didnt. He waited till the honda was nearer then he moved out and causing the poor honda driver to jam brake. And the best part is after he move out, he stop at the single lane road again cos wife still walking. Then the wife finally strolled to the car and caused 3 cars including me to be held up for a good 2 minutes cos there is no way to cut lane at all. Finally moved off and now waiting to filter into the main road. This joker did the same stunt again, moved out when the freaking van is so near then van jam brake to avoid collision. In my mind, I was thinking #$%$#@$#@ and if singapore is not governed by laws, lim pei sure take the baseball bat and kok his dick head. How dangerous and inconsiderate can one get? Sunday 10/21/2007 One Nissin Sunny Chinese driver at AMK towards Serangoon. This guy best. I was on the first lane and going at 70km / 80km per hour. He lane change without signalling and checking and cause me to jam brake then he lane change back again immediately when he caught sight of me when he was 1/4 into my lane. When i drive pass, i turned to look at him, he still give me a freaking look which give me the impression like as though i was in the wrong. One Van Chinese driver on PIE Filter into PIE from KAllang if I am not wrong without changing at all. I was forced to jam brake and this is a freaking near miss. In the end i overtook him and PURPOSELY drive like a tortise in front of him. No one is stopping any one from going fast. You want to cheong, go ahead. Just dont be caught by TP and DONT CAUSE A DANGER to other road users. If you want to die, just jump off the building and dont pull such stunts on the road and caused danger to other road users. Monday 10/22/2007 Same Same Same. 3 drivers lane change when i was so near. Jam brake 3 times. Sick and sianz. I need to earn more money to change my brake to 8POD. Anyone got lobangs?
  14. Stowaway survives SIA flight from KL hidden in wheel well CHANGI Airport had an unexpected passenger arrival on Thursday night when a Palestinian man dropped out of the wheel well of a Singapore Airlines jetairliner at Changi Airport. The man, Osama R M Shublaq, is said to have been a stowaway aboard SIA Flight SQ 119 that flew in from Kuala Lumpur at around 10:56pm. He stunned ground crew who were waiting to serve the twin-engine Boeing 777-200 after he fell out, apparently dizzy from a lack of oxygen, from the area where the front landing gear is stowed. The height from the wheel well, where the landing gear strut and two nose wheels are stowed during flight, to the ground is about 2.4 metres. The stowaway was taken away by Singapore police. The SQ airliner had just taxiied to Gate F33 at Changi Airport's Terminal Two after a 55-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Aviation industry sources said they were surprised the man survived his ordeal. They said the flight's short duration could have saved him as the airliner does not have to ascend to the same height as passenger planes on long haul journeys. Furthermore, as the wheel well is not pressurised, the lower flight altitude could have helped the stoway to breathe easier, as compared to an airliner flying in the thin air of around 35,000 to 40,000 feet -- the cruising altitude for most passenger jets. Malaysian airport authorities told The Straits Times that they are reviewing how the man could have breached airport security and smuggled himself aboard the plane. Dato' Azmi Murad, Senior General Manager, Operations, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, said:"We were told by Singapore Airlines this morning that there was a stowaway on SQ 119 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore. We will assist and cooperate with Singapore authorities to investigate on how it happened." http://www.bernama.com.my/bernama/v3/news.php?id=289836
  15. With MCF being the leading car forum with the largest no. of members in Singapore, do you think it has influence (positive/negative) the road users here? It has evolved from a place where pple can come in to exchange/learn more about technical aspects of their wheels to sharing the different driving experiences seasoned drivers have learnt. I can see members having notions of the common sense driving tips/etiquette but I wonder how many really practise it. With cars getting more affordable, either the quality of driving knowledge being imparted get diluted or drivers here have a whacko driving attitude when they are being the wheels, I read more and more complaints about acts that seems to get more & more common as compared to last time. As such, it leaves me to wonder, how can the members here really make a change as unity is strength. Can we do something to change the driving culture? Can we practise common-sense driving in S'pore so that insurance companies, workshops do not profit at the expense of our pocket? Therefore, on a Sunday morning, I start a provoking post for members to share on how we really can go about effecting some positive changes instead of forcing ourselves to put up with the increasing acts by reckless drivers. The way I see it, we can either continue to suppress our intolerance or really go about making an effort to drive the message across.

  22. EU legislators press Singapore on freedoms 02 October 2007, 14:02 CET (SINGAPORE) - Singapore should allow greater political freedom and ease its banking secrecy laws, European legislators said Tuesday, while praising the city-state for its otherwise open economy. Seven members of the European Parliament were visiting the city-state to probe prospects for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Europe and the 10-member ASEAN, of which Singapore is the current chair. The 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union agreed in May to launch free trade talks. Ignasi Guardans Cambo, a Spanish member of the European Parliament, said his delegation raised the issue of greater political freedom during a meeting with their Singaporean counterparts on Tuesday. He said Singapore is "the most open economy in this area... (but) it still has some room to improve in other areas which are more political." One area is freedom of expression, he told the Foreign Correspondents' Association. Cambo was among a group of European legislators barred by Singapore authorities from speaking at a forum in April to discuss the development of democracy in Asia and Europe. Singapore's foreign ministry explained the move by saying political issues have to be decided by Singaporeans and not foreigners. "Obviously, that was not the intention. At least nobody from the European Parliament has any intention to interfere with the internal politics of Singapore," Cambo said. Singapore says its tough laws against dissent and other political activity are necessary to ensure the stability which has helped the country achieve economic success. Glyn Ford, a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament, said the EU will also seek improvements in Singapore's banking secrecy laws. http://www.eubusiness.com/news_live/1191326522.11
  23. Ever wondered if this will affect our tiny country of 500,000 cars population? Ever since the credits allowed easy borrowing, 100% loans, etc etc..... A lot of ppl who just scrape their monthly salary are buying cars and breathing jus above the waters. I noe of at least 9 of my colleagues/frens/relatives who did that. Say salary S$1500.00, spends S$800 on instalments and 200 on fuel. Left 500, so scrimp and save on every thing possible. So if sudden recession, wun we see the crippling effect? What say u?
