  1. is this posted before? Times are bad......many dealers chut pattern........... is this the same company that 1 of the forumer dad had encounter? =================================== http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story...eaving-some-fix Christopher Tan | The Straits Times | Monday, Apr 8, 2013 SINGAPORE - At least four motorists have been left in the lurch after used-car trader Galaxy Carz closed down recently. The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) received four complaints last month against the trader in Turf City. Case executive director Seah Seng Choon said the complaints pertained mainly to consumers not getting their cars despite having made payments. Mr Tan Meng Wee, 46, is one of those affected. He got his car after paying for it in cash in mid- January. But the fund manager got a rude shock when his Volkswagen Passat was repossessed last week. "I thought it was an early April Fool's joke." Apparently, Galaxy Carz had not transferred ownership of the car to Mr Tan. It was still under the ownership of another dealer, which repossessed the car. In another case, 3-D designer Doreen Wong, 31, sold her Honda Civic to Galaxy Carz last October. The car carried an outstanding loan with Maybank. Galaxy Carz resold it to logistics executive Peter Tan, 49, without settling the bank loan. The bank is expected to repossess the car from Mr Tan soon. All three parties have been trying to reach Galaxy Carz, but to no avail. Its unit at Turf City is closed. Calls made by The Straits Times to its director Cheong Wai Keong went unanswered. The Land Transport Authority said it is investigating the cases with the police, who confirmed reports have been made against Galaxy Carz. Both Mr Tan Meng Wee and Ms Wong have also engaged legal counsel. Singapore Vehicle Traders Association secretary Raymond Tang said it was aware that Galaxy Carz had closed, along with a couple of other used-car dealers since the Government's curbs on car loans kicked in on Feb 26. But Mr Tang said: "We are not sure if they are affected by the loan curbs, or are using that as an excuse to quit." The curbs limit car loans to no more than 60 per cent of the purchase price, and the tenure to no more than five years. The restrictions sent demand diving for cars, as fewer buyers could afford the heftier down payments. This, in turn, brought certificate of entitlement (COE) premiums down. Used-car dealers bore the brunt of the curbs as stocks acquired before the cooling measures were devalued overnight in tandem with lower new car rates. The Monetary Authority of Singapore on Friday granted used- car traders a 60-day reprieve on the financing curbs to help them sell their stock. But industry players said most will still have to bear substantial losses because car prices will remain depressed.
  2. Happened yesterday morning along Keppel Road. I was going to turn into Tanjong Pagar Road. I was in the middle lane. Got this black car driven by an ang moh in front of me. When the 3rd lane as clear, I signaled for a good second and quickly filtered left to prepare for my left turn into Tanjong Pagar. When my car was about a third abreast of the black car, which was still in the middle lane, it also signaled and without checking it just changed lane and almost collided with me. Fortunately it swerved back and I quickly moved forward so that it could make its lane change as well. After the black car slotted in behind me, I looked into the rear view mirror, noticed this ang moh kept shaking his head (somewhat in disgust) probably for the near incident just now. I lifted my hand and showed him my forefinger (hahaha...he prob think its the middle finger). Now I was thinking...CCB you change lane without checking yet still behave as if I am the one wrong. You made a mistake yet still act like you the victim. F u understand. Made a mistake just own up. And the best thing, after changing lane it just went straight prob left turn into Shenton Way. WTF. Just like yesterday along AYE, a Subaru TS drifted into my path and I had to toot my horn. It swerved back and the driver stretched his hand out to apologize. Its just that, both of us never made a meal out of it. This thread is not about incidents or accidents but rather the attitude of some drivers who do not realise they are wrong and continue to act in disgusting manner.
  3. Alright. Narrowed down to 3 choices, and all of them are different kinds of cars. 1. Toyota Mark X OMV 25k, COE 15k 2. Honda Odyssey OMV 26k, COE 13k 3. Mazda CX-7 OMV 29k, COE 12k Assuming all are 2007 cars, all are around the $60k price mark. Which would you choose? Thanks in advance for the input!

Obviously all these while... some people some where some how haven' t got the slightest clue as to why... geeez. ---- Why some things are more expensive here MAS wants to identify factors that could explain price differentials across countries by Neo Chai Chin 04:45 AM Nov 19, 2012 SINGAPORE - If you have always wondered why that chair from IKEA or that pair of jeans from Gap is priced higher in Singapore than some other countries, you are not alone. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) seems just as keen to find out. Calling a tender to conduct a consumer products price comparison study earlier this month, the MAS said: "Despite these goods being exactly the same in many instances, the law of one price does not appear to hold. Anecdotal evidence suggests that prices of IKEA products and mid-range apparel, including Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch, are higher in Singapore compared to many other countries." Some factors that could explain the price differentials include productivity and wage differences across countries, variation in non-tradable costs like rental and taxes, transport costs and price stickiness when it comes to exchange rate fluctuations, the MAS stated in its tender document. The study's aim is to identify which factors, and their significance. Using case studies of an international mid-range clothing retailer, a consumer electronics retailer and possibly furniture giant IKEA, the MAS also wants to identify the extent of price differentials of the same products between Singapore and at least 10 other countries, the document stated. As Singapore grapples with inflationary pressures stemming from the tight labour market and rise in global food prices, economists told TODAY that the study would help the country's central bank better understand factors driving prices and inflation here. It would in turn help the MAS determine "what targeted policies might be needed to help contain inflation", said Singapore Management University economics don Davin Chor. "It would be useful to know, for example, whether it is operating costs in Singapore that are primarily driving price levels here or whether it is competitive conditions and strategic considerations that are leading firms to mark up their prices in a particular way in the local market," he added. Through the study, the MAS could also understand how much of exchange rate movements are passed on to consumers, and how quickly, said Assistant Professor Chor. Citigroup's Vice-President of Economics and Markets Analysis, Mr Kit Wei Zheng, agreed. "For instance, if for whatever reasons, price mark-ups are kept consistently high, import cost savings from a stronger exchange rate may not be fully passed on to consumers," he said. Singapore's exchange rate is among the instruments used by the Government to manage inflation, and the MAS last month decided to continue its gradual appreciation against a basket of currencies. Inflation this year, excluding imputed household rentals on owner-occupied homes, is expected to be slightly below 4 per cent, said Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam last week in response to a Parliamentary question. Previous research on price differentials has been conducted. A 2001 study using prices of 119 IKEA products across 25 countries - including Singapore - concluded that price differentials were not due to differences in exchange rates, local costs, tariffs or taxes, but were largely due to differences in mark-ups as a result of strategic pricing across countries, said the MAS tender document. The tender closes on Nov 27. --- TODAY

  11. Hi everyone, I need some advice for an accident with a taxi. This afternoon while driving, I was behind a taxi at the traffic light waiting for the (green turn-left arrow). The taxi is the 1st car and I'm the second. Ok, now the green turn-left arrow came out and the taxi moves so did I. Suddenly a pedestrian ran out of the road which causes the taxi to jam brake. Now, my reaction wasn't fast enough to jam brake also to avoid a collision as Im not spiderman. So my front bumper hit onto the taxi rear which causes a dent in both our cars. The taxi driver said he will claim my insurance. But now the thing is what solutions do I have for now ? (this is my first accident so some help from bros and sis here will be much appreciated) Thank thank

  16. Just like to share a good experience on change of brake pad, my car is a 2009 Isis, one of the headaches i face is that it's supposed to be a WISH but it's not really a WISH since some parts are different and since its not too common, i do worry about getting the right parts. Anyways been going regularly to the same workshop in the north for some time, last 2 visits at 40K & 50K been getting asked to change pads and skim rotors. I kind of dragged my feet on this and actually dreading it..with the cost of it and how change of ATF, spark plugs etc coincided.. At 70K, i went to another workshop nearer my house (Pasir Ris) same story change pad and skim Price quoted very similar = $230- $250 for brake pad Skimming =$70-$120 I decided to do more research on the internet....more confused and worried...ISIS vs WISH which brake pad...and in terms of rotors more. Discovered some good toyota stockist. Eventually went with Ric -Tat at Owen road...very nice experience there. Confident with price of purchase and also correctness of part!!... Brake pad= $65 Rotors =$210 for a pair Surfed around internet and read about Seng Long at Bukit Merah Lane 3...called and spoke to the boss Alan. Agreed on a price..went down. Was well pleased when i got there no big crowd on a saturday afternoon...his mechanic Ah Wing worked on my car. He worked with focus on my car. I asked them to inform him if i needed to replace rotors, he touched them look carefully and said my rotors were in good shape!! he even told me my rotors were not possible to do a skim...too thin my model. Was impressed by the honesty Brakes pads were fitted, all the old dust from the old pads cleaned up. Later he checked once both sides changed My brake pads according to the mechanic could go a little more, he showed me the part(like a clip spring) that would cause noise once worn down!! anyways, he said it was a good time to change but my rotors could wait longer. I was just happy to get the job done by honest no nonsense honest workshop and look forward to doing more jobs with them! guess..with all the push to skim rotors and change pads at 40K made me bit disappointed with the regular place...i doubt they even open up my tyre to check...after fitting the new pads Ah wing cleaned a lot of old dust from my brakes!! Anyways just to share my saving experience...i have set of spare rotors may try to exchange for something else at Ric-tat or just keep since with the current COE...my car will surely get thru the current rotors

  22. Hi, Just want to check with you guys here, currently I am driving a 1.5year old odyssey. Bought it before the COE went skyrocketed. Hence now if I were to dispose the car on the 2nd hand market I can get some cash back on top of outstanding value. I was tempted by the offer by C&C for the new C180/C200. After calculating with pumping in the money after I sold my ody off, it should be more or less the same for installments monthly just that there will be no 'positive' returns if I will to dispose my car at any time. I am wondering if its a smart move to change from MPV 2.4 to a sedan 1.6/1.8. Generally the space is not much a consideration, but not sure if the power loss will be expected from a slightly lower cc car. Yes I do agree my heart sways to the finishing of the merc but logically I should hold onto the odyssey right as value wise its still positive value in some sense unless I were to drive till the end of lifespan of the car. So should I consider the change? Many thanks for the advise. P.S. Nothing to do with the badge thing. Just looking for comparism of value for money worth.
  23. I have faced this several times. Sometimes I did notice and take precaution, sometimes I didn't notice. When I approach a junction (esp. on left most lane), I always notice that bikes will love to be on my right side, then cut infront of me and make a sharp turn to the left. I have already face this numerous times. At least twice if I don't brake hard confirm buang one. Seriously, I wonder what are these bikers doing. How much time can they save but doing such things and do they know that they are endangering their own lives as well as others (not to mention the trouble caused).
  24. If you are thinking of upping your speed to reach your destination faster, these will provide some perspectives on how much time you CAN actually save. Travel from one end of Singapore to the other. 40km. If you travel at following speed, note the time taken and time saved. Speed Time to destination 80km/hr - 30min 100km/hr - 24min (save 6 mins) 120kmlhr - 20min (save 10 mins) 130km/hr - 18.5min (save 12.5mins) 150km/hr - 16min (save 14mins) Now most of us dun do 40km runs from one end to the other. The average distance is probably 20km. So your savings will be exactly half of the above. Wanna speed? Think ............................ you dun really save much time.
  25. Serious? [shocked] Like that also can? [shakehead] From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...ying_1_lot.html Posted on 06 May 2012 Inconsiderate resident suns clothes by 'parking' them at HDB carpark STOMPer dontfaultme was surprised when he came across this makeshift laundry area at a carpark in Hougang. Wrote the STOMPer: "Hanging of clothes at multi-story car park occupying one lot. "I was surprised when I went to my girlfriend's place at Block 221 Hougang Sreet 21. "All the white lots in the lower level were full, so I had no choice but to proceed to the highest deck. "To my surprise, this is what I saw. "The owner is so inconsiderate and occupied 1 car lot for his clothes."
