  5. Today a nissan march driven by a old auntie knocked against my front left bumper, and drove off. i quickly gave chase and managed to approach her when she parked her car further up in serangoon garden. I showed her the damage of the front left bumper which became out of alignment with the car body. i told her that i will claim against her insurance. she then told me she has 50% ncd and asked me to go to her workshop to repair on her bill. but i told her i will rather claim insurance and not go to her workshop as she may not honour her word. she then offered to pay me for the slight damage. she asked me to quote her a amount, and i told her $150, which she finally relented at $100. after that, i kind of feel bad that she has to pay out of her pocket, but its just too bad she caused the damage. when she was negotiating with me, she told me she doesnt have much money, and when i see her took out 2 fifty dollar notes from her handbag, i felt quite sad for her actually. haiz, just want to let it out. auntie, if you reading this, pls drive carefully la.

The boy, a student of Temasek Secondary, said this in a letter of apology he had prepared, at the request of his school principal. It all started when STOMPer Sharon saw the boy trying to dig out coins from the donation tin using a wire, at about 3pm last Sunday (Apr 13), and wondered if it was due to boredom or greed. In her response to STOMP today (Apr 15), the principal of the school said that the school has been raising funds for the President's Challenge for the past few years and that it is deeply saddened by the incident. She said the boy, like the rest if his peers involved in the fund raising, had worked hard to raise $60,000 on the day of the incident, and that he had committed the act out of boredom, while waiting for his friends. He had no intention of stealing the money and had replaced the coin that had fallen out back into the donation tin, she explained. He had also been asked for his reflections in a letter, said the principal. This is her email to STOMP in full: "The school is deeply saddened that this incident has marred the noble intention of a very worthy project - the school has been raising funds for the past few years for President's Challenge. "And it is only through the whole school effort, and with support from external organisations, that we are able to raise tens of thousands of dollars. "Through the one day sale, the students raised $60 000. The students have worked really hard for the project, and it would be a shame that this one incident takes away the noble cause of the project. "In this incident, the boy was feeling bored while waiting for his friends, having worked hard in the earlier part of the afternoon doing sales like everyone else. "It was truly an act of boredom to see if he could fish coins out from the tin. He had no intention to cheat as the 20 cent coin that dropped out was placed back in the tin. "The boy has the testimonies of his classmates. That said, the school took the stand of allowing the student to make right his wrong act. "We have spoken to him and asked for his reflections." In his letter of apology, the boy said he was very sorry and regretful for his actions. He explained that he had dug out the 20 cent coin from the donation tin for fun and had no intention of stealing it, assuring the public that the coin had been placed back into the tin. This is what he wrote in his letter: "On Sunday, our school students were out in various parts of Singapore to do street selling to raise funds for the President
  11. http://www.straitstimes.com/ST%2BForum/Sto...ory_215516.html Home > ST Forum > Story March 11, 2008 Thanks, but sorry, it just doesn't work... I HAVE tried the new taxi scheme for a week - but, sorry, it doesn't work for me. For years, the Government has worked relentlessly, and so successfully, to make it 'easier to do business here'. But, in one single act, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has made it more difficult, particularly for the foreign businessman. Imagine, the newly arrived businessman leaves his hotel, gets into taxi and says: 'Hitachi Tower, please.' 'Cannot.' 'Why?' 'Must alight at taxi stand.' 'But I don't know where it is!' 'Sorry, must ask.' Safer? I find long queues of taxis now, causing road jams, confusion and increased pollution. 'On-call' taxis have no idea where to stop - in the queue, at the front, at the back? And their fares do not know where to go. Quicker? Never. Twenty taxis used to pick up at the same time at 20 different locations. Now they have a single queue and it takes 15 minutes to pick up 20 passengers, assuming they've bothered to wait. Other major cities like London and Paris have taxis safely picking up fares in the street. Why is Singapore different? And it's even worse for the businessman leaving the office to go to Changi Airport, with suitcase. Where is the nearest taxi stand? Well, even I don't know and I've been in Singapore for the past eight years. And I simply can't find any of the new taxi stands in the Central Business District. Singapore used to have one of the best taxi services in the world. Now, it is too expensive and too inconvenient. But perhaps that was the real objective. I have certainly given up and use the train now - but it takes me three times as long. Duncan Edwards

    Sorry ....

http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,150907,00.html? JUST one word: Sorry. That was all this 18-year-old boy got from the driver who knocked him down and left him bloodied before speeding off. The incident happened on Friday around 3pm at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 3 and Street 21. The victim, Zheng Feng Peng, is a National Junior College student. The apology was cold comfort to the teenager who ended up with eight stitches on his right leg and several cuts on his hands, legs and back. BANDAGED FOR 2 WEEKS His right leg will have to be bandaged for 14 days before the stitches can be removed. The impact of the collision broke the teenager's umbrella, which he was using in the heavy downpour. He had to stagger home bleeding in the rain. The teenager told Lianhe Wanbao that he had been at the junction waiting for the traffic light to turn green before crossing the road. Suddenly, while he was crossing the road, a black car coming from Woodlands Street 32 turned into Avenue 3, knocking him down. Recalled Feng Peng: 'I rolled onto the bonnet and fell to the ground. My right leg was cut, and my hands and back were injured.' He said the driver didn't bother to alight from the vehicle to check on him. 'The driver just opened the car door with one word 'sorry' before driving away.' He described the driver, who was wearing sunglasses, a black shirt and dark-coloured pants, as being in his 20s. When Feng Peng got home, his mother scrambled to send him to hospital in a taxi. His medical fees came up to about $90. The family also rang the police while in hospital. A police spokesman confirmed the incident. Witnesses can call the hotline at 1800 5471818. Feng Peng's father, service engineer Zheng Yong Qing, 45, was out at sea when he heard what had happened to his only child. They had migrated from China and have been living in Woodlands for nine years. Said Mr Zheng of his son: 'I was really worried. 'He could have died.'
  14. I'm usually quite tolerant when it comes to illegal parking. JB bikes, cars without valid coupons taking up parking space lots overnight. I mean we all own a ride and let's be fair, we are not perfect. Live and let live. But this is way too much. i) This particular bike always park overnight without any coupon at all. ii) The bike squeezes inbetween another bike and my car (pretty much clear) - I don't understand why... why, why, why ..... iii) The best of all, I can't even get into my car, I have to get onto the driver's seat via the passenger seat. THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH FOR ME TO TAKE!!!! I'm gonna send this picture to HDB and maybe to stomp. My neighbourhood MSCP is usually full of Jaybee bikes parking illegally all over the washing bay area ... now they even park all storeys as if it's they're in Jaybee. Sorry lor, this is Sin-ka-por. And I won't stoop so low as to kick their bike crashing onto the ground. So I'm forced to do it the Sin-ka-por way ... Complaint, complaint, compaint ... and maybe something will happen What a sad way to start a brand new day ...... (Pardon the poorly taken picture)
  15. morning time, bunch of us waiting at the traffic lights for it to turn green, i was the 2nd car from the front. Mr Taxi driver, at about 0.18 sec after the light turn green, u horned at the first car in front of me to go. But sorry, u did not break the record for the fastest time to horn after the light turn green. Because I have come across more impatient drivers who horn even before the light turn green. Try harder next time. Hope u can get into the book of record for impatient driver. And so sorry for us to waste 0.18 sec of your time. We should move off at 0.01 sec when the light turns green while some buses were still turning right halfway I am really sorry that u reach ur destination 0.18 sec later. Just some rantings from me on a weekend morning.
  16. Hey.. i just saw a cerato VS lorry this morn. as i don't have the habit of taking pix while driving, i have no pix to offer. however, i must say that the front end was pretty badly crumpled while the passenger shell was very intact. i saw the driver's side airbag had been deployed (not sure abt passenger side, didn't see). the driver was fine according to my gf. can't say for sure that "korean car stronger than jap car" but this is one 1.6l family car to consider based on the "solidness" btw, i dun drive a kia and i hope my next car is NOT a korean car. current ride is though

  18. Mitsubishi Motors erases operating loss Thu Feb 9, 2006 1:34 PM GMT163 By Chang-Ran Kim, Asia auto correspondent TOKYO (Reuters) - Mitsubishi Motors Corp.'s operations turned profitable for the first time in 11 quarters, thanks to cost cuts and a softer yen, the company said on Thursday, although sales disappointed in the crucial U.S. and Chinese markets. MMC, which came under the consolidated accounts of sister company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in December, said October-December operating profit totalled 1.62 billion yen (7.8 million pounds) versus a loss of 9.97 billion yen a year earlier, putting it within reach of its unchanged full-year forecasts. At the net level, it posted a loss of 4.35 billion yen in the third quarter, narrowing the loss from 49.44 billion yen. For the full year to March 31, Japan's only unprofitable car maker kept its projection for a net loss of 64 billion yen and an operating loss of 14 billion yen but said it hoped to do better, fuelled by sales of newly launched vehicles. "We're expecting to boost revenue quite a bit in the (current) fourth quarter and translate that into profits," said Hiizu Ichikawa, managing director in charge of finances at MMC. "The latest results put us well within range of our full-year forecasts," he told reporters. "We want to exceed those numbers as much as possible." Global retail sales during the three months grew 6.9 percent to 326,000 units thanks to solid growth in Europe, Japan, the Middle East and Latin America. But a mere 2.6 percent rise in U.S. sales from rock-bottom levels a year earlier dealt a blow to revenue, which fell 1.6 percent to 538.35 billion yen during the three months. The end of a deal to supply vehicles for former shareholder DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler brand also hit revenues, MMC said. "High gasoline prices and a shift in market preferences had an impact, and sales (in the United States) were slower to recover than we had anticipated," Ichikawa said. Last year, MMC launched the Eclipse sports coupe and Raider pickup truck as many consumers shifted to more fuel-efficient vehicles such as small sedans and crossovers. A healthy North American operation -- a cash cow for most of its domestic competitors -- is crucial for MMC to nurse its overall business back to health, and executives are counting on more new products, including the Outlander SUV, to drive U.S. sales up in 2006. MMC also counts China and Taiwan among its most strategically important markets. But combined sales there fell about 20,000 units short of expectations in the business year to date, Ichikawa said.
