  1. If you are thinking of upping your speed to reach your destination faster, these will provide some perspectives on how much time you CAN actually save. Travel from one end of Singapore to the other. 40km. If you travel at following speed, note the time taken and time saved. Speed Time to destination 80km/hr - 30min 100km/hr - 24min (save 6 mins) 120kmlhr - 20min (save 10 mins) 130km/hr - 18.5min (save 12.5mins) 150km/hr - 16min (save 14mins) Now most of us dun do 40km runs from one end to the other. The average distance is probably 20km. So your savings will be exactly half of the above. Wanna speed? Think ............................ you dun really save much time.
  2. There were 225,550 speeding violations in 2011 - a 10 per cent increase from the year before, according to the Traffic Police. This figure was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean in his written reply to parliament in response to a question from MP for Nee Soon GRC, Lee Bee Wah. He said car drivers form the majority of speeding offenders, followed by motorcyclists and drivers of light goods vehicles, such as vans and pick-ups. Mr Teo added that this is generally consistent with their respective vehicle populations. He said traffic police enforces against speeding in a few ways, including using cameras to detect speeding violations. Mr Teo said there are 18 static speed enforcement camera locations across Singapore and they are supplemented by portable speed cameras that are deployed flexibly islandwide. Mr Teo said over the past several months, Ms Lee and her residents have expressed to traffic police on various occasions their concern about motorists speeding on a few of the arterial roads within Nee Soon GRC. He said traffic police has stepped up its enforcement actions on these roads in response and will monitor the situation closely. Mr Teo said the success in reducing the incidence of speeding requires a shared commitment, and motorists must also play their part by keeping within the speed limits at all times. 3. Do you think it is right for Minister with a Volvo Escort car and TP speed on the road ? Last Saturday (11 feb) I was coming back from Malaysia via Tuas Second Link, a Mercedes (SXX212XX) with a white Volvo and a TP was speeding on highway, I was driving 88 to 90km/h and the Volvo suddenly appeared beside me asking me to slow down while the Mercedes drove pass me, their speed should be around 110 to 120km/h! I saw the same car with the same Volvo Escort car along Dunearn Road last month in the evening, the Minister must be staying near Botanical Gardens and he is heading home. Terrible isn't it?
  4. Imagine you are the motorist in front of this trailer at this moment and you hear the sharp screeching sound of it jamming break behind you... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...d_to_other.html Lorry speeding on right lane of BKE is a hazard to other road users STOMPer Serene thinks the driver of this lorry, who was speeding on the right lane of BKE during peak hour, is a hazard to other road users. She says: "This was taken just after the Dairy Farm exit on BKE last Thursday (Jan 12) at around 7am. "The driver of the trailer was also speeding during peak hour and I wonder where our traffic police were when this happened. "A hazard to other road users and very inconsiderate."

  6. A Wisconsin man decided to flex his newly-acquired beer muscles by testing his newly-acquired track-ready Mustang on a local street. He lost control, hit a Jeep Grand Cherokee and ricochet into a tree. The 35-year-old man now faces charges after he allegedly downed up to ten beers at a cookout, then took his $50,000 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca for a joyride. Police say he was traveling at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour when he went into a spin. The subsequent crash ripped off the driver's side door, and a passenger suffered a compound fracture in his right arm. The Mustang owner's been charged with one count of first offense operating while intoxicated and causing injury, along with one count of reckless driving and causing injury for good measure. He could get two years in jail if he's convicted.
  7. Be who you are and say what you feel... because those that matter don't mind... and those that mind don't matter! Read This Slowly Jack took a long look at his speedometer Before slowing down: 73 in a 55 zone. Fourth time in as many months.... How could a guy get caught so often? When his car had slowed to 10 miles an hour, Jack pulled over, but only partially. Let the cop worry about the potential traffic hazard.... Maybe some other car will tweak his backside with a mirror. The cop was stepping out of his car, The big pad in hand.... Bob? Bob from Church? Jack sunk farther into his trench coat. This was worse than the coming ticket. A cop catching a guy from his own church. A guy who happened to be a little eager To get home after a long day at the office.... A guy he was about to play golf with tomorrow.... Jumping out of the car, He approached a man he saw every Sunday, A man he'd never seen in uniform. 'Hi, Bob. Fancy meeting you like this.' 'Hello, Jack.' No smile. 'Guess you caught me red-handed In a rush to see my wife and kids.' 'Yeah, I guess.' Bob seemed uncertain. Good. 'I've seen some long days at the office lately. I'm afraid I bent the rules a bit - just this once.' Jack toed at a pebble on the pavement. 'Diane said something about roast beef and potatoes tonight. Know what I mean?' 'I know what you mean. I also know that you have a reputation in our precinct.' Ouch. This was not going in the right direction. Time to change tactics 'What'd you clock me at?' 'Seventy. Would you sit back in your car please?' 'Now wait a minute here, Bob. I checked as soon as I saw you. I was barely nudging 65.' The lie seemed to come easier with every ticket. 'Please, Jack, in the car' Flustered, Jack hunched himself through the still-open door. Slamming it shut, he stared at the dashboard.... He was in no rush to open the window. The minutes ticked by.... Bob scribbled away on the pad.... Why hadn't he asked for a driver's license? Whatever the reason, It would be a month of Sundays Before Jack ever sat near this cop again. A tap on the door jerked his head to the left. There was Bob, a folded paper in hand Jack rolled down the window a mere two inches, Just enough room for Bob to pass him the slip. 'Thanks....' Jack could not quite keep the sneer out of his voice. Bob returned to his police car without a word. Jack watched his retreat in the mirror. Jack unfolded the sheet of paper. How much was this one going to cost? Wait a minute. What was this? Some kind of joke? Certainly not a ticket. Jack began to read: 'Dear Jack, Once upon a time I had a daughter.... She was six when killed by a car. You guessed it - a speeding driver. A fine and three months in jail, and the man was free. Free to hug his daughters, all three of them. I only had one, and I'm going to have to wait until Heaven before I can ever hug her again. A thousand times I've tried to forgive that man. A thousand times I thought I had. Maybe I did, but I need to do it again. Even now. Pray for me. And be careful, Jack, my son is all I have left.' 'Bob' Jack turned around in time to see Bob's car pull away and head down the road. Jack watched until it disappeared. A full 15 minutes later, he too, pulled away and drove slowly home, praying for forgiveness and hugging a surprised wife and kids when he arrived.... Life is precious. Handle with care. This is an important message; please pass it along to your friends. Drive safely and carefully. Remember, cars are not the only things recalled by their maker. Funny how you can send a thousand jokes through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the sanctity of life, people think twice about sharing. Funny how when you go to forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it to them. Pass this on, you may save a life. Maybe not, but we'll never know if we don't try. May today there be peace within you. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. 'I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.' The life you save may be. Your own child or grandchild.

  11. SINGAPORE : A Traffic Police operation in Tuas on Wednesday morning carried out to nab speeding heavy vehicles also resulted in 620 cars being clocked exceeding the speed limit. They will be fined for speeding. The Traffic Police mounted the operation along the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), just before the slip road to Benoi Road and Gul Way. Between 8.10am and 11.10am, 12 heavy vehicles were caught speeding while 620 cars exceeded the 90 km/h speed limit for cars. The Traffic Police said they are clamping down on speeding heavy vehicles with mobile speed cameras and frequent patrols, especially in the Tuas area. Their efforts have paid off in reducing the number of accidents and fatalities. Between January and June this year, there were 114 accidents involving prime movers, tipper trucks and trailers compared to 123 accidents during the same period last year. There were 16 injured drivers and heavy vehicle passengers in the first six months of this year and also during the same period last year. One person died during that six-month period last year, while there have been no fatalities so far in the first six months of this year. On Wednesday, a tipper truck driver was also pulled over by the Traffic Police for speeding at 73 km/h. The speed limit for heavy vehicles on the AYE is 60km/h. The driver was led to a vehicle inspection centre in Pioneer Road where the speed limiter of his truck was tested and it was found to be faulty. YES you can escape from the law.. but NO you cant escape from unluckyness. wanna drive like racer pls go to the tracks. the public roads is not meant for you to race
  14. on behalf of good friend, caught by TP at mandai road. capture at 109km/h. already left 6points. any chance to appeal as i know 30-39 = 8 demerits.. at that time was rushing to A&E khoo teck huat hospital as good friend's father sent to there. Explain to TP that dun intend to speed for racing.. TP said "like you said already, is your friend's father, not yours what.." what is the chances of appealing...? if not sure revoked right? need advise from bro & sis. Thanks!
  15. Hi bros, i've used NSH numerous times and have often got summoned for speeding. normally, i'll just ask if the TP allow "payment" on the spot. However, this time round, my gut feel tells me that something is different. the police looked stern and told me that i've been fined 300RM for speeding at 126km/hr and i can settle it in JB. he asked for my driving licence and proceeded to write down the particulars immediately. then he went to the back of my car and copied the car plate and brand/model. sensing something is amiss, i kept my wallet.... and took from him the summon slip. Just want to share with forumers here that the past tradition of starbucks coffee $$ might not apply anymore and they can easily catch/detain u for something much much more serious. sidenote: can i settle the summon via the internet? if i'm selling my car away in 2 months time, should i settle the summon? (essentially a question of summon tagged to driver or vehicle)
  16. An accident involving a lorry, a trailer and a car blocked off the East Coast Parkway (ECP) yesterday afternoon. At about 2pm, the trailer hit the lorry, which was on the road shoulder due to a flat tyre. The trailer then spun and hit a Nissan Sunny nearby. Five men, aged between 22 and 46, were taken to Changi General Hospital after complaining of pain in their elbows, hands and thighs. The traffic jam caused by the collision stretched from Still Road to Fort Road, as all three lanes of the expressway in the airport-bound direction were blocked off by the trailer. Police investigations are ongoing. ST PHOTOS: TERENCE TAN
  17. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...326-270230.html Pathum Thani, THAILAND - A TEENAGED girl was cut into half by a speeding Porsche car when she crossed a road on Friday afternoon. Police quoted a witness as saying that the 17-year-old girl, who worked in a shop, had just bought her lunch from a noodle stall and was crossing the road when the accident happened. It took place at 2.30pm on the Pathum Thani-Bang Bua Thong Road in front of Parichart Housing Estate in Muang district. Initially, only the lower half of her body was found in the middle of the road. Later, the upper half of the body was found in the Porsche's passenger's seat, which was left about 10km from the scene. The upper half of the body had crashed through the windshield and landed there. Police said the car had been stolen and the driver was fleeing.
  18. Dec 19, 2009 KPE tunnel: Over 60 a day caught speeding Motorists say 70kmh limit too slow; LTA says it is necessary for safety By Judith Tan SMOOTH AND SAFE 'Given the road design parameters of the KPE, a speed limit of 70kmh is necessary to ensure both smooth traffic and safety for motorists using it.' LTA spokesman WATCH YOUR SPEED MORE than 60 motorists a day have been caught speeding through the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) tunnel in the first nine months of this year - making up 12 per cent of those caught islandwide. The reason: the tunnel's 70kmh speed limit, which is much lower than the 90kmh limit along other expressways. But motorists who want the limit raised are not going to get their way. Said a Land Transport Authority spokesman: 'Given the road design parameters of the KPE, a speed limit of 70kmh is necessary to ensure both smooth traffic and safety for motorists using it.' Traffic Police said a total of 37,000 motorists were caught speeding through the 12km tunnel between October 2007, when the first stretch was opened, and September this year. In the first nine months of this year, 17,000 motorists were caught. The KPE was constructed to ease travel flow from north-eastern residential areas such as Hougang, Sengkang and Punggol to the city centre. The longest tunnel in Singapore, its 70kmh speed limit aims to ensure safety as accidents in tunnels are potentially disastrous, and can lead to explosions and fires. Speed limits in tunnels in Japan and Europe are set at between 70kmh and 80kmh. Yet, motorists continue to chafe - registering their grouses on several online forums about having to 'crawl' through the tunnel. Agreeing, Mr M. Raju, 37, a salesman, said: 'The speed limit at 70kmh is sleep-inducing, especially when I finish work at 8pm and am driving home in the KPE tunnel. The crawl and the lighting could lull me into nodding off.' While others like teacher S. Ong, 40, have received several warning letters for exceeding the speed limit by between 5kmh and 10kmh, despatch rider Ramli, 51, was not so 'lucky'. He was fined $150 and chalked up six demerit points for going at 90kmh on his motorbike. As low as the speed limit may seem for an expressway, a number of serious accidents have already occurred on the KPE, with the police confirming a total of 14 accidents since the expressway opened in 2007. The latest, involving two cars and a motorcycle, occurred at about 8am on Dec 9 near the entrance from the Tampines Expressway. The motorcyclist, 51, died, leaving behind a wife and six-year-old child. Several motoring forums are appealing for eye-witnesses to the accident. Yet, despite 10 speed cameras along the tunnel, some drivers continue to floor the accelerator - some to speeds of up to 140 kmh - twice that of the limit. One such driver even flaunted his 100kmh speed through the KPE tunnel by posting the footage online. The video, '100kmh in Singapore KPE, end to end in six minutes', was posted in May on the video-sharing website YouTube. The footage, about six minutes long, shows the speedometer hovering between 94kmh and 110kmh - hitting as high as 113kmh at one point. Several online discussion groups have speculated that the cameras might not be able to snap cars that whizz by at above 100kmh, but the Traffic Police maintained that this was not so. It declined, however, to provide a breakdown of the number of motorists caught at varying speeds or any photographs. Offenders found exceeding the speed limit will receive either warning letters or summonses from the Traffic Police. Going beyond 70kmh by up to 20 kmh will cost a motorist a fine of between $130 and $160, and four demerit points. Those who exceed 110kmh will be hauled to court. If convicted, they face fines of up to $1,000 or a jail term of three months. They will also be given between 12 and 24 demerit points. Since it opened, the KPE has become a popular route with motorists. The average daily two-way volume is about 63,500 vehicles - a 30 per cent increase over the 48,900 recorded last September, when it was fully opened to traffic. LTA trying to scare us? See the bolded text.
  19. I feel insurance companies should ban drivers from making any 1st party claims if the accident is caused by excessive speeding. I feel its simply not fair to pass the expenses to us for these people's irresponsible actions. Speeding is something that is totally within the driver's control (no such thing as accidentally speed unless car got problem like Toyota). Thus if the driver lost control of his/her car and wrap tree etc, why should insurance companies pay? I feel speeding is even worse than doing illegal mods to the car. Of course, when I said excessive speeding, it means there is really evidence of excessive speeding. Eg. some cars can bang till engine fly out or overturn several times or go over barriers and land on opposite roads etc.... I don't see how such accidents can happen if you are driving within limits or even slightly above limits (eg. 70 on a 50 road).
  20. As usual lah, he is a safe driver, he never speeding.
  21. I would like to know if there is any speed cams on the flyover from Lornie Rd going to Braddel ? Any one kana before ?
  22. I was cruising at 100-110 km/h and got stopped at a roadblock driving in to Malacca. They say I sped at 130km/h. I ask for proof but they ignore me and ask for my driving license. Shortly thereafter (1 min), they return my driving license and say "we mail the speeding ticket to you". I then drive off. Do they really mail the ticket to my home ? My driving license has no mailing address. Do they can access to our particulars ?
  23. Just because major portions of the German Autobahn have no speed limit doesn't mean you can drive as fast as you want anywhere in Europe. Where there are posted restrictions, most European countries take speeding very seriously and levy hefty fines. The latest case in point is a 37-year-old Swedish man who was clocked at 180 miles per hour on a motorway between Bern and Lausanne in Switzerland. Unfortunately for this driver of a new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Switzerland doesn't have fixed fines for speeding. Instead they use a formula similar to that in Finland where the fine is calculated based on the vehicle's speed and the driver's income. Back in 2002, Nokia executive Anssi Vanjoki had to pay a fine of $103,600 for going 47 mph in a 31 mph zone. In this latest incident, the driver faces a penalty of just over $1 million for traveling at the highest speed ever recorded on a public road in Switzerland. Apparently the SLS escaped being clocked by several older cameras that are limited to 125 mph before finally being recorded by a new camera with a higher radar speed range. His excuse: The speedometer was faulty. As far as we know, this is the most expensive speeding ticket ever issued, though there are reports of a kid who last April was caught speeding in his dad's Bugatti Veyron, the punishment for which was permanent seizure of the vehicle.
