  9. Scion stages world premiere of all-new tC sports coupe at 2004 North American International Auto Show Scion has issued the following press release: Scion, the new car marque from Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the all-new tC sports coupe at a press conference yesterday at the 2004 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. In June, the all-new 2005 tC will join the entry-level xA and the urban utility xB, coinciding with Scion's national rollout," said Jim Farley, Scion vice president. "The tC was developed specifically for Scion and the U.S. market with an aim to deliver a level of style, performance and value that will be flat-out impossible to beat." The design target for the tC was to offer a sporty coupe with sophisticated styling and surprising versatility. The sleek tC sits low and wide. Configured as a three-door hatch with a panorama glass moonroof, the tC has the formal look of a coupe with a trunk. Body panel gaps have been narrowed, as have the pillars, for improved visibility. Further adding to the tC's sleek appearance, the windshield wipers are set low so the driver has an unobstructed view. Outside mirrors have built-in turn signal lights, and the hatch incorporates a power release. Standard keyless entry and remote hatch operation can all be managed from a newly designed gray and black key, unique to Scion. The tC's sophisticated styling exudes a Scion family identity. Traces of Scion DNA can be found in the interior with use of amber illumination, metal-tone trim and innovative instrumentation panel grains. A material that was inspired by the texture of Japanese paper was developed for the tC dash. Exterior Scion cues include taut, clean lines from front to rear, accentuated rocker panels and wheel arches, and a sporty mesh grille. Like its Scion siblings, the tC will be equipped with many subtle hints of refinement, such as the use of dampers on interior moving parts, normally found in more upscale vehicles. The temperature control dial is made of genuine cast aluminum. The front-passenger airbag is seamlessly integrated into the dash, and narrowed gaps on interior components measure near those of the all-new Camry Solara coupe. The tC will offer incredible utility in a very spacious cabin. The driver's seat will have both a height and thigh adjustment, along with a walk-in function with memory. Rear 60/40-split seats will be equipped with three headrests and three-point seat belts in all seating positions. The rear seats will recline 45 degrees and can be adjusted into 10 different positions. Finally, when both the front passenger and rear seats are folded flat, tC will provide more than 8.5 feet of length for cargo. Performance will match the tC's sleek styling. The tC will be a tenacious road handler as it will be equipped with a double-wishbone rear suspension, front MacPherson struts, 17-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, and four-wheel disc brakes with an Anti-lock Brakes system. Power will be delivered through an all-aluminum 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that will produce 160 horsepower. The engine will be mated with a choice of five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions. For added performance, a dealer-installed supercharger package developed by Toyota Racing Development will be offered later in the year. The turn-key performance option with an output of approximately 200 horsepower can be purchased with the vehicle, or added later. And like all things Scion, it will be surprisingly affordable. Like the xA and xB, the Scion tC will be offered in mono-spec trim. Standard features will include the panorama moonroof, 17-inch alloy wheels with graphite appearance finish, air conditioning, cruise control, a high-output Pioneer sound system, power windows, door locks and mirrors, and a center console with armrest. Sound absorption materials help maintain low NVH levels that are more common in a class-above car. "When Scion goes on sale nationally in late June, Scion showrooms are expected in approximately 60 percent of all Toyota dealers," said Farley. "The launch of the 2005 tC sport coupe will complete the third leg of Scion's original three-vehicle strategic launch plan. But, it will not be the last."

  13. Hi Guys I am driving a New Sunny EX1.6A , Champagne color. I am still using the original 15" steel rim with wheel cover. Can anyone please help to clear some of my doubts:- 1)Is sport rim confirmed lighter than my steel rim? 2)Apart from cosmetic effects...does it help in enhancing FC/torque/pick up? 3)I heard that the car stability at high speed will be affected if I change to sport rim. True/False? 4)TC is selling a set of 4pcs for $360? Is it a good buy or not? I am deciding between 2 design...1 is 5 spokes and the other 6 spokes....does the spokes make any difference? Really appreciate all your feedbacks/comment. BTW, anyone drives this car with steel rims and later changed to Sports rims? If yes can tell me what's the difference?

  15. Finally! the designer has fired up the sensational two-seat _____ and invited the writer to be first to drive it. It's a great moment, but one that very nearly didn't happen. The car had a dramatic unveiling at an international motor show earlier this year. Based on the Lotus Elise's chassis and powered by its 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, the _____ is built for road and track use. And to ensure the performance matches this promise, the unit has the Norfolk firm's 135bhp upgrade, as seen on the Elise 135R. The newcomer's track is wider fore and aft, while moving the front axle forward has lengthened the wheelbase by 75mm.
  16. What do you guys think? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the shape of things to come from SEAT, and it's in the form of what the firm is calling a Multi Sport Vehicle. The car seen here is the Altea, and while it's technically a concept, bosses have confirmed it will go into production and keep the name. It will be sold alongside the Leon, offering customers a more practical and versatile alternative. What's more, insiders say the large grille housing the SEAT badge, coupled with the sleek shape of the headlamps, will feature on all new models. The Altea is based on the Salsa concept, driven in issue 721, although that car's non-opening bonnet and two-piece tailgate have disappeared. In profile, the smooth lines and low stance of the Altea give it a performance-oriented look, while still offering mini-MPV-like space and practicality. Styling differences on the production car - due to be built on the new VW Golf platform and set to arrive in 2004 - will be minimal. The two individual back chairs are likely to be scrapped, replaced by a more conventional bench seat, while the large 19-inch alloys will be on the options list. But the windscreen wipers which tuck up vertically against the A-pillar when not in use, and rear door handles hidden in the quarterlight, should remain. Inside, the show car cabin's mix of aluminium and leather will be toned down. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre 150bhp FSI petrol unit - the first time a SEAT has been powered by one of VW's FSI engines. It will definitely make production. Power is fed to the front wheels via a six-speed auto gearbox with sequential Tiptronic controls.
  17. JAPANESE SPORTS CARS OVERTAKE EUROPEAN MODELS HERE J-POP on wheels Call it J-Speed: Hip, sleek and at half the price, Japanese sports models are giving European marques a run for their money By Christopher Tan THEY'RE hip, they're fast and they're hot. Meet the J-pop of cars: sports models from Japan which are feeding a growing fad here. In just a decade, these cars have zoomed ahead of the fast and the furious from Europe, fuelled largely by lower prices. Most cost around $150,000 with certificate of entitlement - half the price of the cheapest Porsche, against which some of them can give a good run for their money. The x-factor -- the fact that it was in the movie X-Men II -- drew Ms Linda Lim to the Mazda RX-8.-- BRYAN VAN DER BEEK Price aside, the larger variety of models has also helped rev up sales, which received a further boost recently when Wolverine in the action movie X-Men II gave cachet to the Mazda RX-8. Said banking executive Linda Lim, 27, who is sharing the car with her lawyer boyfriend: 'I saw it in X-Men II and it's so cool.' Today, more than 1,000 J-sports cars can be found on Singapore roads, exceeding the 900 or so European sports marques such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus and Maserati. It is a significant growth in 10 years, from just two models - the Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi Evolution - to a crop that now includes the Honda Accord Euro R, Honda Integra R, Nissan 350Z, Toyota Celica and, of course, the Mazda RX-8. Each of these cars packs more than 200 horsepower and can easily exceed 200kmh. Related links:

  19. Alfa's New Show Star There's a stunning new Italian supercar readying itself to wow the crowds at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show - and it's not a Ferrari or Lamborghini. These are the first exclusive pictures of Alfa Romeo's new rear-wheel-drive performance machine, the Evoluta - and the car will be ready to take on the likes of the Porsche 911 by 2006. The striking coup
  20. Hi guys some info on lowering suspensions. what to look out for!!!! Lowering Tips 1. Which general points should be considered when lowering a vehicle? 2. Why should the suspension system also be adjusted when tuning wheel/tire components? 3. What are the technical options at my disposal if I would like to lower my vehicle? 4. What are the benefits of lowering my vehicle? 5. What could be the drawbacks connected with lowering? 6. What type of lowering would be ideal for me? 7. What should I watch for when choosing a suspension system manufacturer? 8. What legal regulations come into play? 9. Can I lower my vehicle myself? 1. Which general points should be considered when lowering a vehicle? The chassis is one of the most important components in a vehicle and is first and foremost responsible for driving comfort, road-holding, and safety. Car manufacturers invest a lot of time and money to create the perfect chassis tuning. When modifying suspension system components, you must always make sure that the products are not only chosen based on costs and optics. Any modification, which deviates from the series chassis, is on the one hand a shift of the compromise between road-holding, control, and vehicle styling and driving safety and everyday usability on the other (please also refer to points on
