  1. Fined liao still kena suan. "FW" indicated it was a bike. This biker damn suay. Could be that he park his bike in a annoying way which obstruct others? From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...on_summons.html Getting summons bad enough, motorist receives one with rude message As if receiving a summons ticket was not enough, STOMPer Hao Wei was angry to see a handwritten message written on it which read, 'Serve you right!'. It is not known who wrote the message, as the pen ink used is different from the signature of the parking warden who issued it. Said the STOMPer (Sep 21): "Parking summons remark. "I am so angry with this remark. "Being issued summons already makes me fed up. "But someone wrote 'Serve you right' on the ticket. "Seriously, do you have to write this remark on the paper when I've already been fined?"

  8. Hi all, I find the fixed/land line at home irrelevant these days apart from broadband usage. When the phone rang at home, no one even bother to pick up the phone . Regards,
  9. I guess the title is already self explainatory. This is being brought up in light of the news that the Ministry of manpower particularly when the Minister of State Tan Chuan-Jin evoke a law and took to task a company for their discriminatory nature of the company's advertisement in recuritment. Let's face it. If any company wants to employ certain type of ppl which they so seek, they could still do it at ANY point of the recuritment. The Bosses could seive thru those they want based on any discriminatory standards they so apply and only employ those they want. Evoking laws of such is totally a moot point. It does not even scrap the surface of the problem and neithier will it address the real issue as to why some or should I say, many companies tend to hire certain type of ppl. This could be race, employment status etc or even how pretty a candidate is! Maybe Mr Tan need to take a self reflection as to why companies in Sinkland became such. Could it becos of the cheap abundance of FTs particularly even those they liberally gave scholarships to , the strong currency, the liberal employment laws where the Boss is KING or locals cost more to employ and job hop or the very working atitude associated with Sinkie etc etc! Let me make an analogy. Know the famous Chinese saying of ..'hanging Goat's head but selling dog meat Well, the companies could jolly well be asking for goats from now in their recuritment ads but actually want dogs as they could be cheaper and more obedient ( they could even catch those that are strays )or dogs work harder and are cheaper to feed, less petty or even more productive and for every Boss , the whole idea about any business is to make more money particularly for himself! Even by evoking such laws, the companies who still perfer certain employees will jolly well execute their selection critieria at the point where they can still pick and choose whoever they want. Sinkland has got a habit that if they don't use methods such as punishing some scrapgoats as example or put up education campaigns again and again, the MIWs don't feel that have gotten the point thru. Maybe the answer has always rest within their own doing and their failure to even recognise this let alone own up to it. So our Ministar Tan is really doing things that are self defeating. Maybe he should first examine the very policies that could make companies want to hire more based on the very merit of the candidates they seek and to undo some policies that seem to hinder or encourage companies NOT to do so. Since I'm not paid a million bucks or more a year I'll leave the thinking and better solutions for Mr Tan to come up with...that is if he is worth his salt and pay check!
  10. Hi all, My family doesn't have the habit of consuming canned food except the canned abalone and stuff like that, once in a while is ok. I realized this when some volunteers knocked at my door and asked us to donate canned food. Since I don't have any canned food, no choice, but to pass them some cup noodles and a can of limpets, which is meant for CNY consumption. I used to buy canned food like baked beans, longan, lichi, mixed fruits, peaches and etc. My wife protested strongly about eating canned food and since then no more of them around. However, as part of Civil defence, we've been taught to store some of them in case of an emergency. Do you guys still do it? Regards,

  13. Background: The whole incident happens on 190311 @ around 13:30. I was driving a white honda civic ek hatch while the other party was a big truck ( those ferrying sands kind ). Three lanes road next to Marine Parade Community Centre along Still Road S heading towards ECP flyover. I was in the middle lane and this truck on the right most lane. I was only traveling straight keeping in my own lane. Note that there is road works on the right most lane. Now the unlucky thing happened, the truck wanted to change lane and BANG! it hit into my driver side, rear quarter panel!! Took down particulars and as my gf was running late for her exam quickly took some photos and i went off without pressing the truck driver to write a statement that he is at fault! Did some repairs and paint + surveyor fee adding up to just nice $1k. Just received a call from my workshop telling me the other party insurance only willing to pay 50%. Very angry as it is no fault of mine. Now the big question: 1. Do you guys think i should pay more(for blood sucking laywers) to fight for that smaller sum of $$? 2. If i accept that 50%, does it means that i admit that i'm partially at fault? will my ncd be affected? will it my car harder to get insured next time? As you guys should know that my car being a honda and also a coe car, insurance is always a problem. Insurance cost is already quite high now. And bigger problem is getting insured, many insurance companies are already not insuring this car. Lastly, hope that there is someone here on the forum who witness the whole incident can come forward though my chances are quite slim. better still if got video recording of it. Thanks for reading, i'm just need somewhere to vent my frustration!!!!! and seek some help.

  16. http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/05/one-ye...-still-ongoing/ One year after assault, investigations still ongoing? Andrew Loh On 11 April last year, three friends tried to help a taxi driver who was being heckled and assaulted by a group of four Caucasian men at the taxi stand at Suntec City Tower 5. Instead, the three do-gooders were pounced on by the Caucasian group, with two of them eventually having to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. The incident took place around midnight that day. The Caucasian men, who were apparently drunk and

  24. ...even if the ruling party lose? From Channel News Asia website: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1116216/1/.html GE: S$90m facelift for Whampoa still on the cards SINGAPORE : Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Heng Chee How has said a S$90 million programme to spruce up Whampoa is still on the cards despite the electoral boundary changes. The S$90m programme is part of the S$460 million facelift for Jalan Besar GRC announced in January. Mr Heng said the team of People's Action Party MPs will go ahead with the plan, if given the chance to do so. He told MediaCorp: "Jalan Besar GRC has come up with a five-year masterplan. This plan is our group's promise to the people that if we get the chance to do it, we will do it." It was a chance for residents to raise national issues to a visiting minister on Sunday. Instead, the hour-long dialogue was dominated by the airing of local issues. These issues included too few schools, inadequate banking facilities and the absence of a polyclinic. Transport was another concern. The Whampoa bus terminal is several decades old and in some residents' view, badly in need of an upgrade. But that is not their only grouse over transport issues. Some feel that bus networks serving the area could be better improved, while others are unhappy that they have to go to neighbouring Toa Payoh and Novena just to do something as simple as topping up their ez-link fare cards. Mr Heng said he has approached the public transport operators to provide top-up machines, and notes that there are top-up facilities at the community club and certain retail outlets like 7-11. He also told MediaCorp that a S$500,000 contract has been awarded to refurbish the 28-year-old bus terminal, and to provide for wheelchair-friendly access. Work is expected to start in the next few months, and could take about a year. Residents said they have seen some small improvements over the years, but note that some of these concerns have been raised time and again. One resident, Tina Nirmal, hopes the situation will change after the General Election. She said: "Whampoa used to be part of Jalan Besar GRC, it used to be part of a bigger entity. Maybe right now, because it is now a separate SMC, there is going to be more focus, a separate plan for us. We will have to wait and see what happens." Their MP, Mr Heng, said he has been working to plug the gaps, but said that in some ways, Whampoa is just too small. He said decisions to site amenities often depend on the presence of a critical mass. The estate has some 24,000 residents now, of which about one in three is aged 50 and above. With the redrawing of the electoral boundaries, however, Whampoa Single Member Constituency will have about 33,000 residents. The new Whampoa Single Member Constituency is carved out of the current Jalan Besar and Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituencies. Mr Heng said: "Within this one square kilometre, we try to do the best we can within here, never saying that it is perfect. At the same time, we do not imagine that this less than one square kilometre is the universe. "Therefore, we also have to tap on the surrounding area as our hinterland, so that we access their services as well. And I think that would be a smart way of doing things." Separately at the dialogue, one resident asked why work permit holders needed permission from the authorities before they could get married. Singaporeans who want to marry a work permit holder or former work permit holder need to apply to Ministry of Manpower's Controller of Work Permits for permission. In response, Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam said work permit holders typically earned low wages. Allowing them to settle here would add a cost to society. Mr Shanmugam said: "They are going to need services, they are going to use medical services. Somebody has got to pay for it, right? That could be you and me." He said such cases are currently considered on a case-by-case basis. --------- "Mr Heng said: "Within this one square kilometre, we try to do the best we can within here, never saying that it is perfect. At the same time, we do not imagine that this less than one square kilometre is the universe. " Also very unwise to make this type of statement. Does it imply that yours is a small estate so DON'T ask too much? Wonder how the voters there feel about this...
  25. Not sure if traffic law allows bicyclists to happily ride across the streets using zebra crossings? I have encountered many such cases recently but if safety is not compromised, I dont give them a chance:- I wont stop for them..... if they want to cross, please get off and push the bikes and walk like a pedestrian... especially he/she is a foreigner from either china or india/pakistan etc......... zebra crossings are called and meant for pedestrian crossing.... not bike crossings
